- Will the power to weight advantage of the K20 swapped Honda Civic have the advantage over the heavier Nissan 350Z? Both cars have aero, both cars have Nitto Tire NT01s and both cars are red!
Stubzz (Michael Hilo) has a little more track experience than Andrew Nguyen and his EG Civic hatch but Andrew has the power to weight advantage. He is likely telling the truth, but its not impossible that hes giving readouts from a Mustang Dyno rather than a DynoJet, Many 370Zs net 340-335RWHP on a dynojet and an HR is essentially only .2 liters smaller of an engine, im pretty sure its common for HRs to hit 320-325 RWHP on their engines with test pipes / intakes / catback / and a tune, and its very likely hes got all 3 of those considering his intakes are heat wrapped, and hes touched nearly every component of that chassis for sure, there isnt much left that is stock anymore besides the bottom end and heads

I wish these guys kept a record board like top gear used to do. that way all the drivers in their cars could see where they stand against each other. It would also promote future races between cars that have already raced.
I think that race came down to driver more then anything, o boy in the 350 has way more experience... and i wasnt picking sides.

The vette was stock with coilovers vs full race car. And let me tell you stock HR don’t make 299whp. Hell a e85 vqhr should be around 280

Would be cool to have a stig-esque hotshoe drive and set lap times in both cars. Bring the common denominator so we can see how both cars compare with the same driver.

so ik no one will get back to me on this but i have this exact red hr 350z on advan tc4s with the same set up; 18x10.5 +15 and 275/35/18 yet when i got mine mounted and balanced they have alittle stretch! I was pissed and now seeing his car i'm just confused...any suggestions as to why?

I like this video format. Front car view with a few in car and track shots. One suggestion would be to ad a tale of the tape for driver and car just like you would see before a mma/boxing fight. I wouldn’t mind doing a driver battle on the east coast.

With similar experience in both cars, I feel like it would have been a much closer race. Dude only had 6 sessions under his belt, which wasn't a lot of experience with the cars characteristics, and snuff out the issues to get the times better.
Still did pretty damn well though.
Would be good to see these two race again once the civic is where the dude wants, and he's had more track experience to get it where he wants it.
By then, the two will probably have a lot changed in the cars, so would definitely make for an interesting rematch

It has to have cams in it to make that much. My hatch made 227whp on stock internals and that was the highest number my local shop had ever seen on stock internals.
I was thinking this exact thing. Even crank 245 HP is dang healthy, but who knows.

40 trackdays vs 6 trackdays is a big difference but also the circuit seems to favour power over weight with the big wide turns and all the big straights and the Z had a clear advantage on that end. On a smaller circuit the EG would have a better chance.

Hello my name is Kash and I am 16. I am not sure what the age restriction is for this driver battle thing but I am very interested. I have a 1988 Nissan 300ZX with a VG33E swap. This car has been raced many times in the "24 hours of lemons" but I have only raced this car one time. That race is the only track time I have ever had. The car does have some suspension, exhaust work, and a gutted interior. I do have some other options for cars but that is the one I feel most comfortable with. I have a mk5 jetta 2.5 and I smoke every car I've raced in the canyons I'm a street racer, only a few modified cars have beaten me.by small margins, stock super cars and a few hyper cars have fallen victim to the jetta. I usually run falkens or federals but would love to try out nitto nt05 or nt01s

My coworker and I have a little bit of beef from racing at autocross. He has a 2016 civic ex with lowering springs, swaybars, poly bushings everywhere, rpf1s, potenzas, intake and manifold, exhaust, tune, and aero. I have a 99 miata with sways, rpf1s, cheap Kumhos, and an exhaust. Don't know if you guys would be interested in something like that. He's dumped about 4k in parts alone and I'm in my whole car for like 2k.

FR’s are typically neutral in the corners, that why the Z was able to carry more speed through them. Where as FF’s tend to under steer. That was the difference in this race, power to weight is about equal. The Civic should have a more aggressive splitter to help it turn at higher speeds.
Power to weight is about equal are you serious? 350Z 299whp and about 3400lbs with driver civic is 245whp and 2300lbs how is that almost equal lol.
When buying my car about 6 years s ago, I passed a 350z on a pedestal at a dealership. I didn't stop because I knew I wanted it bad. Feels like the car that got away. I ended up with a 257 hp T5 s60

Although I'm a honda guy, I was expecting the Z to win.
It also has the advantage on a faster track. With low gear transmissions on Hondas top speeds can be as low as 120mph. That's what my cable so trans tops out at.

JCL yup. It’s to keep grip in the rear when you lift off throttle/break and turn. All the weight is in the front plus breaking means the rear wants to lift.

Driver skill and vq35hr torque is what prevailed. The civic would probably eat the z alive in a drag race because of it's power to weight advantage but this is a road course and it's harder for the civic to stay in power band when having to slow for turning

Z driver seemed much more aggressive and the Honda needed better gearing to stay in the powerband more.

Came down to fwd cars can't handle like rwd cars. If youre using the front tires traction for turning you can't use them for acceleration or braking.
