If it leaves about a half-quart on transmission fluid on the ground overnight (when it cools off) it's probably because the sensor just above the transmission oil pan (front side) is not seated correctly or the seal inside it is very bad. If you're careless (like I was) it's possible to bump the tab on the tightening ring that holds the sensor in place, and voila, instant sieve. When the transmission is hot, the oil is churning around and very little oil will leak, but when the oil cools, it all settles down inside the transmission housing and any oil higher than the oil pan will exit out the sensor hole and onto your clean garage floor. If you have such a leak, don't bother taking it to a dealership to fix -- they will just try to sell you a new transmission. The sensor is just above the transmission oil pan on the front side where the wiring comes down. It's not necessary to remove the oil pan to get to. Simply reach up and seat the sensor in by feel, then tighten the sensor on by twisting the plastic locking ring on the bracket a half-turn or so clockwise.
The transmission on these scorch the fluid badly. I had to do 3 fluid flushes to get mine clean. One at 60k,70k and 80k. Now i do one about every 20-25k miles not the recommended every 60k miles or fluid will turn black. I've got 350k on my commander, engine and trans are still running good. The key.. Fresh fluids early and often.
This one all depends on how its being driven and conditions I found... All highway seems to keep the color but the city stop and goes along with towing.. Id go every 50K kms lol if not Im usually at the 90-100kms
I am literally in the middle of changing my transmission filter to my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 L it also has the exact same setup no drain plug or dipstick how much tranny fluid do I put in to know that it's enough considering there is no dipstick please and thank you for the help
Important: The six bolts shouldn't be tightened too much or it could warp the rubber seal and the pan will leak when it's cold. (happened to me) The proper specs for tightening the bolts are pretty loose: 70 in/lbs.
Do u know the filter kit part # u used im told there is 2 diffrent transmissions a 15 bolt and a 12 bolt the say at parts store idk what ones they are talking about because the only have 6 bolts
The reason why the filling cap says Dealer Only. Is because this transmission are for BMW, You need to use dealer stick, you can buy it, its about 60.00 dollars. And you need to check the level at specific engine temperature. I guess you can add the the same amount of fluid you drain and should be fine.

Good vid but do a lil more research I am about to change the conductor plate on my 06 3.7 found out you have to take temp of fluid in a drive gear with a scan tool . there are charts that you can get seems easy to mess up this trans. This is a nag 1 or w5a580 it a Benz trans

Just measure what you take out and replace the same amount, assholes do not include tranny dip stick, and generic ones do not show correct amount.

Was there a intercooler filter that looks like a oil filter inside the pan like there is on the 4.7 commander.

I bought the Dorman dipstick from Autozone. Is there a chart or something you use to know how much to fill to.

The dealer suggested 5 quarts. The forums suggested no less than 4. I filled with 5 because I tow often with my Jeep.

You will need 5 Liters for towing or 4 Liters for daily driving.
Suck out fluid first from fill hole, 4 qts easily.
