Tutorial on layering cut vinyl on the back of a cutting board.
Jacoba is the font for the initial
imprint MT shadow for the name
and palatino for the rest of everything :)
Thank you! I have been watching several videos for weeks to educate myself in how to use vinyl and just found your videos tonight. You are so neat, clean and professional yet easy to follow and understand. Thank you for taking the time to make them. You do an outstanding job. Thanks again.
Connie
Connie Graybill thanks so very much 😊
Great job! Loved how you were thorough but got right to it. You are a born teacher - and this is from a retired teacher! Keep it up.
Thank you so much 😍
You are so amazing in your explanation of each project. Please continue to do more. I love how simple you make each project appear. Thanks so much
Pamela Swain thanks so much!!
Love your project. One suggestion I have for money saving tip is that you can resuse the vinyl transfer tape several times instead of throwing it away after each use. I do it all the time with no problems.....just throw away after several uses.
You are very talented and I am learning a lot from you. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, and not forcing me to reinvent the wheel. Thumbs UP, your a great teacher as well!
That's sorted it out for my Christmas presents for the family.
Great video.
Awesome, I just received my Cricut machine for Christmas. And I have been learning so much on what it can do. This is a great video for a wedding gift. Thank you,
Excellent instructions! You are a natural teacher. Thanks for making me believe I can do this. Waiting for the next one.
Thanks so much Nancy!! I appreciate it!! the tumbler video was just uploaded :)
Thank you SO much!!! YOU are the first person out ot over a hundred vids I have watched that actually helped me!!!
Aww thanks so much!! :) I'm so glad it was helpful!!
I will be making tons more!
Thank you and please do! I am going through a medical crisis right now and are unable to work, so this is how I have chosen to try and maintain until i am healed! You are so wonderful and shared ALL the information beginners need to hear and see.
Wow! You explain it so well! I just wish I had found it before I wasted so much vinyl!
Thank you!
I really enjoyed the video. I appreciate your clear, concise instructions!
Thanks so much!
:)
I make vinyl prints but still enjoyed watching this.
Fun vid.
Wow you are awesome!!! Very professional! Please do more videos, your a natural! I love your work and you are very kind on sharing all your information!!!
Thanks so much for the kinds words :) very much appreciate it!!
Great video and fantastic idea. I have been wanting to get a vinyl machine. I can see gifts for the family and friends in the near future.
Picked up some cutting boards yesterday. Can't wait to do this. The word 'family' is as wide as the last 3 letters in the name (which is 11"). This comes to about 4.5" wide. The 3rd line looks to be about the same (4.5" wide.) The only thing I had trouble finding was the little swirlygig, but those are a dime a dozen so any will substitute. Fabulous idea. Thanks!!
Thank you so much for sharing your techniques! I am a terrified beginner. And watching you gives me the confidence to try doing this! :)
Thanks so much! you are very welcome! I am glad it helps!!!
Thank you for sharing your tips. Love the hinge method. Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks so much, I wasn't having much luck with my searches until I came across this.
I would love to see a video where your putting something on fabric like a shirt or something! Your videos are presented very well and I understand EVERYTHING (:
+Shayna Ellison Hi!! we will be doing a shirt video the first week of january :)
+Zindee Studios Yay! Looking forward to it!
Very helpful. I have reviewed this and your intro video 3 or 4 times. I look forward to your next video. Thank you for being so detailed.
Thanks so much Deborah!! several more in the works :)
I love this video. love the way you explain things as you go.
thanks Rita :)
FABULOUS video. Great tips & tips. Please, please, please make more tutorials. Your awesome
Thanks so much!! more to come!
Loveeeee this ! Your videos are so helpful. My cricut will be here Tuesday ! I can't wait ! I'm trying to learn all that i can now ! Your weeding video was soooo helpful!
Ally Jae thanks so much!! 💜💜💜
Amazing video and great information on new things I can try out with my new cutter. However, coming from automotive side of things, I would recommend getting some clear coat (Sorry I cant be more specific on which kind) to spray on the back so if it rubs on anything or does get washed with other items, there wont be as much of a chance of the stickers getting ruined or pealed off and it wont effect the food of course since its on the back. Great video, looking forward to more!
Appreciate the comment :) but vinyl actually needs to breath and coating it with anything with actually weaken it and cause it to shrink/peel. The vinyl is made to withstand the elements and it will last years without anything over it.
Clicked on your video to see how to layer vinyl and squealed when I saw Meador! It is my maiden name :)
Great video! You're very thorough & you explain things in an incredible way. I don't know why anyone would give this video a thumbs down!! I love all of the videos on technique, but in the future can you please do a few videos on using the software as well? I'm struggling so much with designing things
Thanks so much shirkera!! I will be posting several in The near future with step by step instructions on cutting and the software :)
You should look into getting a light table would assist in precise layering.
you did an amazing job -- thank you for sharing :) would love to see you do more of these videos with your circuit or other cutting machine :)
Thanks so much! More to come :)
i love watching all your videos i just want you to make more plz
Emily Ferris more on the way :) thanks so much!!
I didn't know that vinyl had color on both sides!!! I thought the adhesive side would be white or something, and so to have it show through wouldn't work for a colored vinyl. You just blew my mind. hahahaha
Great video! Thanks for all the details, like where you got the cutting board and things to watch out for. I can't wait for the tumbler video as I would like to make 12 for my Bunko group and I know you will have some great tips! I hope you will also consider doing one on layering vinyl that has to align. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. It is very much appreciated!
Thanks so much!! I am doing the tumbler video this week :)
Ooops.. Just ask about the fonts and as I was reading way down on the comments
I did see where you had already answered this. I am so sorry but I am so new at this I didn't even realize there were comments down there until just now. Again thank you for everything and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
loved all your tips
Thank you! I LOVE making these!
I'm so glad!! :)
Love this! I just bought a couple of boards to try..... I would love to find out more about the design set up.
yay! I will do a step by step walk through :)
GREAT, GREAT, GREAT VIDEO. Helped me a lot! Thanks
thanks susan! :)
Thank you for this great tutorial! I've purchased all of my supplies and read the comments, but I can't find the font size for the name and other info. Thanks again! I look forward to more videos
danyell minor 11 inches wide for name, not a particular font size because it varies depending on name length
You mentioned 11 inches width, but I didn't catch the height? Thank you
A microfiber cloth works wonders on the dust/debris particles. It will also eliminate finger prints/smudges. 😉
+A S A large MicroFiber cloth is a must. Do not wear cotton as it sheds tiny fiber on your work. Never use hand lotion if you intend to apply vinyl.
Another great video thank you it really is so helpful can wait to see the others you will be doing
Thanks Denise!! more to come in the beginning of the year :)
Really enjoyed this!
+Ginger Bourg thank you :)
Great tutorial !!
Very detailed and informative !!! 👍👍
This looks amazing. Great tutorial. 😁
Hola, excelente trabajo, saludos desde México...
***** thanks so much :)
that is a cool idea well done I will try this one out the week end and let you know how I got on. god bless ya.
chris edwards thanks so much and let me know how it goes :)!!
Do you have a tutorial on creating the items for the cutting board?
cute idea! Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for sharing this video with us. The cutting board is beautiful. I can't wait to give it a try. Can you tell me what size the fonts are? That would be a great help. Thanks again for sharing your talents with your viewers.
Never mind found the answer in another response. Thanks again
that works :) I was just about to answer!!
Thank you for the video!!!! Great tutorial!!!!!!
Ramonia Deco thank you!
Your video is amazing. Thank you
can you tell us the measurements for the name and letters as well as the fonts?
height and width
11" wide for name
11" wide for initial
Jacoba is the font for the initial
imprint MT shadow for the name
and palatino for the rest of everything :)
Very helpful thank you so much
Love the video. Please give me the length and width of the font you used. Thanks
Can you share your transfer tape preferences and where you get them. Thank you. Love to watch you!
What a gorgeous cutting board!!! Fantastic directions at a perfect pace to watch and follow along!!!
What fonts did you use on the cutting board?
Thank you so much for your help and time.
Doxie C thanks so much!!
Jacoba is the font for the initial
imprint MT shadow for the name
and palatino for the rest of everything :)
Zindee Studios I am not able to find the Jacoba font on any of the font websites. Any ideas?
www.fonts101.com/fonts/view/Script/8350/Jacoba
use the little download button not the big one (that downloads something else) :)
My brain can’t... so which way do you lay your Vinyl on the Matt to cut it? How do you get the right side of the vinyl to stick?
it's the font for everything else is called patinio ricardo
+kekepparker
Jacoba is the font for the initial
imprint MT shadow for the name
and palatino for the rest of everything :)
I see the name of the fonts used but where can I find them? You are a gifted instructor!!! Thanks for taking your time to do these videos!!
Great video. I was wondering about washing. You would think the vinyl would come off. Can you put in the dishwasher?
Oliva O'Hara it is great to use outside vinyl because it withstands water better than inside vinyl. Hand wash is better as well.
Great tutorial! 👍🏼
Excellent video. You mentioned the size of the family name but what size did you cut the letter? Thanks for all your great information.
Penny Estrada thanks so much!! the initial i usually cut at 11"wide and stretch it out a little to around 9" high :)
What brand of transfer tape did you use?
I love your cutting boards. Great tutorial. I have a question what is the sizes of you big letter and the rest of them please
Great. You teach well.
Where did you get the ruler? That's a great size!
I got that one at Walmart in the sewing section :)
Do you mind sharing the type and brand of mat you have under the cutting board. I love watching your videos.
what size did you do "The ........ Family Est. 2007 in
Awesome instructions! Love the large squeegy(sp??) and the holder for your vinyl! Do you mind sharing where you purchased? Thanks!!!
Hi!! Thanks so much!! Don't mind at all, the squeegee (weird word but I think that is right) is from uscutter.com and the vinyl stands are from ebay :) They are called freestanding vinyl floor racks. :)
great video!!! :) TY!
Great Tutorial!! I followed your instructions and have successfully made a few. :)
I would like to know what brand the cutting mat is and where to get it. Thank you!
Sherrell what size is your cutting mat and clear ruler, and where did you purchase them. You video was very helpful
Great video
+MomHarper Thank you!!
Great tutorial. Going to give it a try for first project.
Is the scroll part of the text font or an image? I am assuming it is added and cur from same piece of vinyl as name. Do you have a tutorial on setting up the pattern to cut?
Great video. I have made several of these cutting boards after watching this. HOWEVER..my biggest problem is the transfer tape not cooperating. Never have mine come off as easily as yours. I saw in a comment that you use sarmin miah at65 transfer tape. I googled that and can't find it anywhere. I have wasted soooo much vinyl and transfer tape on all my projects. HELP
I also have trouble with air bubbles with the big letter. I tried the wet method and that works but I can't get it down nicely without it.
where can I find the flourish?
Loved this tutorial! I was wondering how big you made the single letter? Im really horrible with dimensions and trying not to waste any of my vinyl, lol. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks so much!
The initial is 11" wide and I usually stretch the height a little to about 9" tall :)
Thank you for the tutorial. Im new to this what fonts did u use please
Awesome tutorial...I want to use a turquoise & White vinyl color. Which would you use for the Initial?
Michelle Goericke thank you! I would use turquoise for the big initial 😊
PERFECT TIMING...I'm working on my project now! So anxious to see how it turns out! Thank you for replying
I LOVED how mine turned out! Thank you for your detailed video 😀
I have problems getting the transfer tape on the vinyl without it creasing? What do I need to do to keep this from happening? Also, what transfer tape do you use?
I have watched this video so many times, and really want to try this! Just bought my silhouette cameo, and waiting to buy some vinyl, not sure what to buy yet. I'm wondering, is there any way of making the vinyl dishwasher-proof? I wanna start trying on old mugs, and would be nice if they could go in the dishwasher.
Also, I've seen all of your videos, and hoping you're gonna put out some more? :) Thanks!
+Rebekka Bakken I have more videos coming, starting in october there will be at least 1 a week :)
theres no real way to make vinyl dishwasher safe... with that being said I have put my cutting board in the dishwasher LOTS of times and it is fine... usually it is not the vinyl that can't handle it, but rather the actual item you are putting it on..
If you are selling the item I would recommend they hand wash it for longer lifespan but it should still be ok if they put it in there (top rack is better)
+Zindee Studios Thanks for your answer! So excited that you're gonna post videos on a regular basis, I really enjoy watching you! :)
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. How do you place the vinyl on the cutting mat? You mirror the image, however, the adhesive side is on opposite side so I’m confused.
Great video and easy to understand. I've been thinking of doing this for quite some time now but have no idea where to start where to purchase things etc. I thought of starting with water bottles. can you direct me or give me some advice. thanks in advance
Morena happy to help!
Machine:

2 must haves to get started besides the actual vinyl:
amzn.to/2lcTLrQ squeegee (this is for adhesive vinyl, wont need it for heat transfer vinyl)
and MUST HAVE weeding tool, this one is my favorite:
amzn.to/2kDbyLV
awesome idea
Hello Zindee, first of all I love the video. However, I just purchased my silhouette and I wanted to know the blade cutting setting that you use for the oracle vinyl 651. Every time I've tried cutting this vinyl it rips. Can you please offer any tips? Thanks a bunch :)
Hey love your video... Would like to know what sizes of your fonts are for the name and the initial please thanks
+Amanda moore thanks so much! I do the name at 11" wide and then the initial at 11" wide as well (sometimes I stretch the initial vertically if it seems too small)
several questions
what is the yellow thing you are using to adhere your tape called?
you said that you made the family name 11" across, how tall is it?
size of the monogram?
what font is that?
this is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Troy Anna McCarty thank you! the yellow thing is a squeegee and can find them at any vinyl supplier, etc. The height will depend on the length of the name but just leave it whatever it comes out to keep it proportional :)
the actual initial is 11" also for the width. the font for initial is jacoba :)
Great video! I love this cutting board. What size is the Fiskars mat?
Hi! Love your videos! I'm just about to give this a try. Still getting my nerve up! What is your recommended source for buying the vinyls and transfer tape/paper?
Zindee, I love your cutting board!!! I bought a couple to make some gifts. Have you come across some Jacoba letters that did not look right??? I am using the S and it does not look quite like a script S. I want mine to look as good as your. :) Is there an easy way to do the swirl?
new to this. great idea. i understand how the 'decal' works if i am putting it on a car or other surface like tumblers but it seems the back of the vinyl would show on this. some vinyls i see are one color on the front and another on the back --- or is it the 651 something more specific for things like inside windows and cutting boards? or do you limit the vinyls to those that are the same color both sides? some of the holographic and rainbow vinyls would look great this way.
Oh and does the back of the cutting board have texture or is it smooth? i was wondering how the vinyl would handle the texture if so.
thanks!
David Larson for oracal 651 both sides of the vinyl are the same color and you are correct, technically it is the back of the vinyl you are seeing through the cutting board. :) Heat transfer vinyl and usually glitter or holographic vinyls look different on the adhesive side so it wouldn't work for this purpose. The back of this particular brand of cutting boards is completely smooth so no texture to deal with :) let me know if you have any other questions!
-sherrell
Great Job..... did you mirror your words?
This is beautiful. I would like to try this but I do not have any experience in using vinyl. Do you think it's easy enough to learn once I purchase a silhouette cameo 3 machine and would I get the same type of results similar to your video? I would like to give this cutting board to family/friends for the holidays, is their a large learning curve to attain the skill sets necessary?
I just bought the cameo 2 about 2 weeks ago with no previous experience with vinyl and after watching lots of youtube videos I've picked it up pretty well. have fun and don't be afraid to experiment! I'm trying not to vinyl and monogram everything in the house!
Courtney Mullen-Great that you are enjoying the Cameo 2. I'm still stuck between the Cameo 2 and the Brothers Cut & Scan 2. I want to make the same project as show in this video and I know this video is a few years old so I'm not sure which machine to buy. Guess I have to view more vides, lol
I just made one last night with my cameo 2.

modelchickny there is a learning curve but nothing too bad :) you can do it with the silhouette 3
I can't seem to find the instructions on creating the items for the cutting board. I loved this video but don't know how to get started on the items. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Did you put the vinyl on the bumpy side of cutting board? Wondering if it will hold up ok..😊
no it is on the smooth side:)
I have a question that I am in hopes you will answer. Many months ago I purchased from you the circle of balls to put on the tumblers. I have watch both the thin tumbler tutorial and this cutting boards tutorial more times than I can remember. My question is this: If I gave the links to these videos and stated that you are the ones that showed us how to do them....would it then be possible if I had a facebook group that I offerered the designs if anyone happen to want them. I changed a couple of the cutting board letters and added names and dates. I would just like to hear from you that you would not mind if I did this! Thank you so much. Looking forward to hearing from you. Just me! Anne
+Anne Burgess
do you mean selling the digital files? or selling actual items you make?
+Zindee Studios lol I am not 100 per cent sure what I am talking about myself! But, I think right now I was kinda playing with the idea of selling the digital files. When you think about it, I don't think but one font is one of the ones your suggested. I put the "Family name" family, but also put the ladies and mans name and also the year they were married, so really it is different in what you do. Also, I was just seeing that a very few of the new people might want to get the design instead of doing it themselves to start with and I certainly wanted to also give the the link to your video, so they could learn to do it them selves. I see it was 6 mts ago and I didn't even know what "mirror" was! You were so nice to go over this with me, so I wanted to be sure to give you all the credit that I could. I just thought it was only right for me to ask you what you thought. I know there is probably 10 thousand ways to write the "so & so" family and individual and individual dates, but just didn't want to do anything I was not suppose to! lol Also, crazy thought....I do have a couple of owners of groups that say they are going to come in and help if I do this....would REALLY love to have you as part of this group if you are interested. If you would like to talk more about this in a more private way, please contact me at anne1313@cox.net. Thanks again for always being so great. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Just me! Anne
Do you share the details of this video? Like what are the fonts and where do you find them? I just bought my cutting boards and ready to start but then wondered what font to use.
oops...just found the details. Thanks for the video and great idea!
Great tutorial just wondering what font the big letter and the family name are?
Jacoba is the font for the initial
imprint MT shadow for the name
and palatino for the rest of everything :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to do these to help a beginner like me. Would you mind letting me know which fonts you
used? Again thanks so much.
Just me!
Anne
That is beautiful 😇what brand of clear transfer tape can I use? Thank you
Thank you! At65 :)
Rtape
This may seem like a ridiculous question.....but would this glass cutting board be dishwasher safe?
LOL....Never mind....if I watched the video to the end you would have answered my question. Sorry! Bravo on an excellent tutorial....I have watched MANY videos and yours is one of the top ones out there!
Hi what are cut settings for this.. I keep trying it and my vinyl keeps tearing.. Its Oracle 651
I just bought my Silhouette this month. I absolutely love all your videos. I've learned so much. Thank you, thank you! Do you use the ORACAL AT65 for all applications? I accidently bought the AT60 and I'm finding it not to quite tacking enough for the permanent vinyl. I'm wondering if it will work better with the wall vinyl or if I should just scrap it. I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks!
Thanks so much! I'm glad they have helped you!!
And congrats on the new machine!! You will definitely need a high tack tape for wall vinyl so the at60 probably won't work very well for it (the matte texture is harder to grab so it needs a stronger tack) I use paper tape for wall decals oratape HT55
For permanent vinyl you want to get medium tack at65
(Use to be At60 but it was changed recently)
thank you for sharing....how much would you charge for something like that?
Melissa Bridwell between $28-$32 😊
