Unfortunately all the BLM protests where in the big cities and I was far away from those. It was difficult for me because I really really wanted to do something for BLM but I just couldn’t. "Before social media I just thought I was a masculine girl"- I don't know about this person's case but sometimes I feel like this is actually one of the most detrimental parts of social media. People thinking they must be trans because they don't fit stereotypes. Social media shouldn't be your source of information on such topics. If you think you might be trans you should go to a doctor and get diagnosed with gender dysphoria, not believe some random people on the internet.

    • @somewhereinspace2166
      @somewhereinspace2166 Рік тому +188

      I follow Alex and he's definitely a real trans guy but I agree on the overall point. Being trans has honestly become an internet trend and that's why we have so many detransitioners who end up dissing the community later. These days you don't need to see a doctor for evaluation before medically transitioning, and that's a problem. Even saying that you need Gender Dysphoria to be trans will get you cancelled these days. So people transition on a whim hoping that they'll be 'hip' and it will solve all their problems only to find out shortly later that they ruined their life. You don't even really get clout for it anymore because just about every kid claims to be trans or queer now. The whole mess of it all is just very sad. There's nothing wrong with being trans, but the glorification of it is toxic. It's a very difficult life to lead, even for those who do suffer from dysphoria and actually are transgender. Regret is a whole nother' layer for those who transitioned without dysphoria.

      For a lot of gay and trans people the internet provides us with a lot of freedom and information that we don't normally get in the outside world due to the danger of homophobia. You can go to a random doctor, but you don't know if they are safe or not for you. But with social media we can share our experiences and help eachother find doctors that are accommodating.
      I truly believe the only reason that we have more resources today is because we found eachother through the internet and were able to form a community far beyond the gay bars.

I even had childhood bullies post a photo of me from second grade, which I inadvertently found and saw them making disparaging comments. People are just plain mean. I watched this because I have a teenage daughter on the spectrum. I have not allowed her to access social media and probably won't; given the discussions that I've heard here and my own experience.

    Emi’s story literally breaks my heart... kids are horrible but no one deserves to have to go through that especially at such a young age... when she said she didn’t realized how depressed and unhappy she was until she looked at the photo it broke my heart :((

      if u say u arent harmed by social media then we know you're lying
      EDIT: first off, this comment was not in anyway supposed to be mean or insulting
      2. what i meant by we know you're lying is, that, social medias algorithms and such are made so even you barely use it in some way your life will be affected by it, and 9 times out of 10, negativly. i use social media a lot, and i do realize that it takes up time i could be doing something else, and you should realize it does take up your time and will eventually start slowly making your time go up and up. if i offended you, im sorry. i just know what social media is and its affects are.

    Personally social media is the only way I've been able to make friends. I have severe social anxiety and social media helps take off some of that social pressure and I haven't felt so alone because of the online friends I've made. I feel like that's an important thing to consider when it comes to social media because I'm sure many lonely people have been able to find people through social media.

      Legit. Like I see ppl say it’s a tool like a bike or a hammer but I’m like uhh the last time my bike gave me notifications and had an algorithm to predict exactly what I wanted/needed was never 😂 ofc personal agency has to come in at some point and you can take steps to minimise the effect, there’s no denying the power these things can have over ppl

      i have to disagree to be honest, i think there is always an element of self control but it gets more difficult the more you rationalize the addiction to yourself

      that’s so true. i totally think kids even under the age of 15 should be on social media bc they still are figuring themselves out and that added pressure really destroys confidence. there should definitely be a class that teaches you how to use social media correctly

      ADDICTION- ANYTHING that lets your mind control your behavior over your good judgement. Drinking, drugging, social media, gambling. All of it. ANYTHING IN EXCESS (plastic surgery the K clan). It’s all addiction and your mind is much more intelligent than to sell out to a whim.
