This showed me that Roddy was more clever than I realized.Two legends there. Roddy used to walk in the back door of Maple Leaf Gardens with jeans and a t shirt with an adidas bag over his shoulder. He treated all of the staff like gold. Pure class. Rip Peeweee and HotRod!

This is one of those moments. This SCREAMS 80's. When i think back to the yellow lighting, the yellow/brown/orange flower patterned couch, still comfy as the middle hadnt been blown out yet. Crystal glass everywhere. The "new" vinyl topped kitchen table, with the ribbed siding, standing on 4 thin legs. The sounds seemed more dull. Eveything had a quietness to it. Like a white noise was always in the background. Big Bird and Grover were the biggest things! Yeah, this fits right in to that mooding. This would be something id catch on a saturday or Sunday rerun. What an era!
He had a stage show in L.A. that made him famous in that town. Watch "The Pee-Wee Herman Show - Live at the Roxy Theater 1981" [edit: it has a lot of elements that were later used in "Pee-Wee’s Playhouse" - and some things that couldn’t be shown on children’s television]
Also, he went on Letterman several times between 1982-85. Those appearances and the HBO special really exposed him to a younger, hipper national audience.

Hard to see more and more icons from your youth gone year after year. That's when you wake up and start to realize that you may feel young and even act young, but you really are getting older. Thankful that while it was the low resolution 80s VHS tape TV era, that at least we do have a record of all the good moments from the 80s. Thanks to everyone that takes time to copy off those old tapes. They are all worth their weight in gold to this kid at heart.

Pee Wee was a diamond in the rough in the late 70s, early 80s -a little rough around the edges and didn’t have all his mannerisms and sayings figured out yet, but he was fully formed by the time his first movie came out in 85, when this episode occurred. Brilliant!

I noticed that also. I thought Pee wee was gonna make some sort of joke about it, to no avail. That being said, I am no one to criticize the legendary Pee wee or this here absolutely awesome performance.
Always gonna love Roddy for They Live and "I am came to chew bubblegum and kick ass and I am all out of bubblegum." Which also gave birth to some of the comedy and persona of Duke Nukem. Then you got Paul "Pee Wee Herman" Rubens. It must be a blessing and a curse to be him. I haven't watched any of his stuff in awhile until his death. Seeing all his tributes and past clips of shows he has been on. It reminded me of how much of a genius and quick wit he had. And he could roast someone without being very demeaning or resorting to cussing or illicit responses. He walked a fine line with keeping his humor fairly clean and only innuendos here and there. That takes a lot of talent. You will be missed. RIP to both

I love Roddy Piper, gone far to soon. His acting career had spiked after wrestling and in 2015 sadly the former wrestler and Canadian army vet passed.
