- LET'S TALK ABOUT ESUNA - Toto-Rak is also a great dungeon to first encounter Poison, both curable and uncurable. It's good for seeing the indicator of what can be cured, and also good to see how Poison is often not a status worth curing. Because I never healed it during the dungeon run, I didn't feel the need to incorporate Esuna into this video. And stay tuned for more instruction, including how to run low level Scholar, Astrologian, and Sage before we get to the more mid-level healing methods.
hey! that's my tanking (and dc 😵 ) ! it was a fun run, was real glad to offer the aid for the video- gr8 content as well, u rly covered the important bits of beginning healing 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
At first i thought everyone would closely watch and judge what i did as a healer, which made me nervous. But then i thought back at how i, as a DPS, viewed the healer in dungeons and i realized that i never actually cared what the healer did at all. This helped me not be so nervous in dungeons. Also a tip: Sometimes higher level dungeons are easier than lower level dungeons because you unlock oGCD insta-cast healing abilities (like Afflatus Solace) that can help you recover.
Some good points. The weird thing is how our brains tell us that "everyone will be watching." Higher levels definitely have more options. I like to get people a basis for why/how we heal generally and build on that foundation with new abilities. By the end game, you have so many resources that you may rarely cast a basic heal.
As a Gunbreaker main, I just want to say there are times I miss a Mit and while it’s nice to have the healer save me don’t ever think it’s your fault. Also, understand that we have our own preservation tools and while we can’t live without you we’ll also be fine if you’re new and we can pull slow if you need time to learn. Like all tank mains, I have my stories of runs where the healer caused issues but just know if you’re doing something totally wrong most people will give you a /tell and would only kick you if you’re clearly trolling, which I have seen.
Thanks for your words of encouragement! Yet another example of why this community is the best: willingness to help each other learn and enjoy the game.
The one thing you can't control is how good your tank is. Which has quite the problem when they are taking massive damage due to low level gear, or don't use their mitigation. One of the "skills" I learned is trying to politely inform them of this, hopefully with them looking to improve and not take offense and get angry. Also good to have a "Tank Stance!" macro as many tanks will inevitably forget to use it on zoning in, causing monster agro to run wild attacking dps and you the healer.
This is so true. If you're doing your best, but the tank is still getting pummeled too much, that's not something in your control as a healer, so you have to learn not to let it bother you. You also make a good point about gently helping them improve; we should all be in that kind of mindset (receiver and giver). I'll also be doing a Beginner Tank set soon, too, so hopefully we can get more new tanks in the right mindset before kamikazeing new dungeons.
It's on the way! (Also, as I ran a dungeon with a new healer the other day, I realized that a lot of her issues were found in targeting methods and camera control more than ability, so I'll look at posting some quick starting settings to make life easier, too.)
I was in this run ! Was super fun to play a part in this, what I wouldn't have given for a video like this back when I started healing lol, you're doing a huge service with these! The editing is really well done and I'm fond of how the tanks DC turned into a learning moment too lol, really nice work ! 🍄
I'm happy that you liked it (the run and the video)! Thank you for proving what I said about the community by being willing to help people learn and have fun!
Us Healer Mains don't have any anxiety. maybe anime healers act that way, but an MMO healer knows everything is either the tank's fault or the DPS's fault for running away from my heals.

Thanks, and I appreciate you so much for doing this! Make sure to join me next time for "The Dire(mite) Consequences of Disconnecting in a Dungeon"!

Oh, and I just caught this, but Afflatus Solace is an instant cast, but it's on the GCD, so plan accordingly. 👍
