Such a surprise. My favourite Cohen song ever, and Tori did a totally different version to the original. Which I expected, but this was still such an unexpected and great experience. She contstantly keeps surprising me.
@@patrickcorliss8878 You're completly right there. The original will always be the best for me, but Tori made such a great personal different version which is awesome. And since she's such a great piano player I loved that solo break.
@@3rdstone1 Yes, you're quite right. I should have mentioned the piano which I think makes this version of the song one I keep coming back to. It's the way she picks out the notes so cleanly. When played like that the piano becomes magical. I have to play it again. Love it.
I just purchased tickets for her concert here in San Antonio Tx. I'm 42 years and I listened to her since I was 16.... 💞🌠 Always know our dreams can become true!
If Tori does a Cover it is likely to turn out amazing because she needs to be connected to the song in her special way to want to perform it. This one is perfect example. I feel that if Tori covers someone's music she is sending them a special blessing!!
Tori Amos with her virtuosity on keyboard that never varies, she arpeggiates these chords to that same-self form; I feel diminishes the lyric that Cohen. Perhaps Lou Reed or Tom Waits, but then again they are too close to Cohen in "stream of consciousness" delivery.
SO so Gorgeous and made even better by her gift as a composer and choices she makes at the piano. Only cover of this that rivals it is by Eivor with her 7 octave range and insane feel for everthing she sings.
this is almost certainly the 'plugged tour' in 1998 - choirgirl era. it was the first time she was touring with a full fleshed out band. mid show she'd 'send the boys off' and do a couple solo songs. i saw her a couple times that tour/had a couple bootlegs and the little speech at the beginning of that section was the same annnnnnd bc i was a super crazy tori fan at the time i looked it up. if i'm right - which i'm pretty sure i am - it's this show : 9/20/98 - santa barbara, ca - county bowl first time on that tour and happens at the full band/solo portion in the middle of the show [edited bc i had narrowed it down to 3 shows bc i missed her saying it was the first time on the tour]
THANKS U SO MUCH I LOVE U FOR THIS I HAD IT 20 YEARS AGO ON AN $180 BOOTLEG N LOST IT.... WELL DONE... SHE'S ON SHROOMS FOR THIS CONCERT LMFAO 😂😆 SHE USED TO KEEP IT N HER TEA 🍵 SHE DRANK ON STAGE LIVE, YaSSSSSSS Mum 💙❤️💙❤️!! Cuz remember She's not stupid.. love that song too ❣️.. XxOxX'z XxOxX'zn N Stay Safe Travels through C19 LIFE 🧬🧡💟🧬
Love Auroras version as well, both are magnificent but Tori's sounds more intimate and urgent whereas Aurora's sounds more ethereal and detached. Shows how 2 true artists and 1 great song can be so different yet so similarly brilliant. Neither is better...................
Brilliant spin on Cohens classic 😊
She is such a GREAT artist. Wow the chills for free. Thank you Tori

This song combines great lyrics with a beautiful melody which Tori has put together in a haunting rendition. Love it.

I agree that this is the best cover I’ve heard of a great Leonard song. Thanks for posting this gem!!
Jennifer Warnes' version is also fantastic. Give it a listen if you haven't heard it.
@mark totton Aurora, blows all version out of the water
Edwina Hayes does it sooooo beautiful!!!! Listen....🙂
T
his is my absolute favorite version of this song. Thank you so much for posting.
It’s my perfect ode to honesty

Always know our dreams can become true!
Enjoy the gig.
I'm 39, listened to her since 18 and seeing her in L.A., June 2022! Let me know how TX goes! Can't wait to see her!
This is so good. Never heard her cover this
Tori is an incredible musician and artist!
Her best live version of this song in my opinion

Wonderful - absolutely wonderful
בלי נשים בעולם לא היו יוצרים מוזיקה מעולה!! אין כמו אימא בעולם!!!!!!...
oh wow , my favourite Leonard Cohen song ever and have never heard anyone else sing it. She rocks!
Try Jennifer Warnes
Aurora 2017, Leanard Cohen Tribute. Jennifer Warnes named an album after this song!
Tori did a great cover of "Suzanne" too. Denver concert I believe.
Aurora, try it
She covered it also as studio version on a tribute album for Mr. Cohen
This sounds like a Stream of Consciousness, and I love it. Tori at her best...

I had no idea that she covered this. Leonard Cohen's words being sang by Tori Amos. A special collaboration.
A masterpiece
SUNG!!! not sang!!! how embarrassing!
kann sie nicht singen? sondern nur blöd schaun?
Me either!!!!!

Getting divorced. Three beautiful young children later. This is now my true “wedding song.”

The only person who can make every version she does better than the original.
Yummy 😋
So Tori Amos can harmonize better than Leonard Cohon. Who knew?
Love Leonard, but yea, her singing voice is slightly more gifted than his was. :)
it'd be better if she had said....if i forget the words....uh, i'll flash you, or something
my first thoughts hearing this song for the first time.
'hes talking about a horse"
and maybe himself
He's talking about his best friend having an affair with his wife Jane.
Aurora did it better
Meh
No she didnt

@@neilparnell5712 you're right - both sucks
