It's Interesting how the background musicians had to not only know the song, but know how to ADD to the song, AND know how to improvise alongside Tori comfortably enough to perform live where she changes songs on the fly. Every single one of them are at the peak of musical genius, or at least at the peak of my understanding of musical genius.
Sean Curran I would go as far as to say it's one of the best live renditions she has ever graced us with. (Not just this performance but this particular tour year) I will admit I have a soft spot for the waitress from Portland September 12th. I was only a few weeks old but I know I would have been there cheering her on
@@jamestownstudios8543 It's a gang of four. There's an incredible guitarist playing a Telecaster that totally deserves credit for his contribution to this mesmerizing, moving work of art. But, agreed, even without the guitarist, Ms. Amos and the backline are nearly without rival. This song impacts me viscerally, and I'm a middle-age white male (probably not the target demographic). As a multi-instrumentalist myself (keys, bass, drums, guitar) I'm on another plane of existence when I hear musicians of this caliber come together as they did here...!
Her soundwriting was always immaculate, but the Choirgirl Hotel-era band sound added something extra, unique, on top. Best rendition of this song I've ever seen.
One of the most memorable and powerful performances I have ever seen. Left a deep impression on me as a teen and so glad to revisit it here as an adult.
That. Is. Stunning. Just when you think they can't possibly go on any longer....I could go back and watch and listen to this over and over again and keep finding deeper levels, new things to pay attention to. This particular time.....? That bass player. Mercy. How has Tori Amos been able to put that kind of energy into her work for decades and still be at it? Just amazing.
I don't usually like it when artists change their songs too much for live performances, but Tori just kills it every time. Such an amazing singer, songwriter, performer, Artist. Thank you, Tori, for an incredible catalog of epic music... :)
It's a rare stroke of genius how they refined and extended the album version and made a whole new, deep, orgiastic goodbye-dear-world song of it. The only comparables which come to mind are Sugar (is there an album version at all?) and Bells for Her, which comparably became a much better song in the stage variant. Wish I'd been around in the US in the late nineties and could have witnessed her take off like that.
It's real, and you can tell she feels the music, that's what i like. *edit* besides what other pianist/vocalist do we have to compare her to in this genre? She is her very own.
She's the freaking best woman singer and piano player!!! I love her. I ve been listening to her for years! And she still amazes me. She's so beautiful.
That seems to be the truth. She seemed (back then) bitter and angry and it flowed through her music in a powerful way. The energy in the performance is incredible
Believe it or not, it is now 30 years ago that I heard Tori the first time on "Littel earthquakes!. It was when I was in the army and a comrade of me brought this album and we listend to it, before we fell asleep after a hard day out in the field. But from this day on I loved her music. She is and was for me the most "erotic" women I´ve ever seen. And don´t misunderstand it, not in a sexual way, but she had and have this kind of charisma, this look in her eyes, this "aura" I´ve never seen again. She´s one of the greatest musicians we ever had in this world (but a lot of people don´t know it). It is a pity and a shame that the world don´t recognize the ingeniousness of this women.....
It's funny, my wife and daughter don't like her or her music. She doesn't really fit in my wheelhouse of musical tastes but I absolutely LOVE her music. She is stunning, passionate and has excellent composition skills.
The first time I saw/heard this version, i was floored. Soooo awesome. Tori went to town and the bass and drums and guitar were crazy on point. Love it.
Tori is a legend, leastways amongst music officionados. I personally speak of her in the same breath as Kate Bush, Sandy Denny, and yes - Eva Cassidy. Voices must never be rated against each other as they stand alone, unique and proud and each worthy via the scores of elements which in unison comprise a 'voice.' Tori particularly impresses me with her possessed passion. She and her song becomes one. It no longer lies on the page as a song, but both metamorphise into something at times purely magical, even holy. Tori inspires up and coming artists such as German performer Carla Fuchs. Listening / watching Carla perform Tori's 'Winter' warms me insofar as great music is shared, interpreted, and re-interpreted with a good heart between fellow artists completely free of selfishness or jealousy, everyone learning and being inspired by each other. Music is a gift from God and the artists merely deliver, adding their own kiss.
Start with the ’92 album and work your way forward :) I heard Caught A Lite Sneeze in 96, ordered all 3 albums and that was it. Seen her live at least 7 times and she’s still my go to. Her first 7 albums are timeless....
i don’t remember EXACTLY what it means, but I remember that one of the chants she does in this meant like calling for “source” or an entity that is representative of source, to like “come back” and set things straight?? >_< kind of deal, lol
After all these decades of imagining this performance with an elaborate light show I FINALLY see it as surprisingly intimate. 🥰 And. If google is going to put ads on this upload does that mean the band gets a cut? 😒

They aren't background musicians, they're soundscape painters 🥰
The way she amped this song up during this era is by far the best that she ever did with this song.
Sean Curran I would go as far as to say it's one of the best live renditions she has ever graced us with. (Not just this performance but this particular tour year) I will admit I have a soft spot for the waitress from Portland September 12th. i still prefer recorded version
100% !!! This wasn't even a favorite of mine, until I saw this performance!
And there's also the performance she did at Madison square for r.a.i.n. of this song.

The drummer's performance is so good!
That’s “the creature who hits things” - Matt Chamberlain ! 🥰
I don’t think many three pieces could mess with the drummer, the bass player, and Miss Amos.

Best rendition of this song I've ever seen.
That's because of all the rage 😮
I can't listen to any other version of this song anymore...Sorry Tori, but this is absolutely wonderful...
You know your Tori.
I totally agree. This is the best live version of this song I’ve ever heard/seen.
Same here... fucking rocks.
Same Here!! I Love Tori She Blew This Version Off The Fucking Charts! That's My Girl!❤💯❤
I completely agree!
I yearn for the days of this Tori. She was legendary. I would give anything to rewind time and see her live again in the 90's.
Literally
yeah,
what became of her;
Artists evolve (that's their purpose, basically) -FORTUNATELY!
If she stayed in the 90's we'd never had Scarlet's, Doll Posse, Geraldines...
July 23rd just got my tix!❤
She is so beautiful, so talented, so deep. I thank God she decided to make beautiful music for the world, for her, for me and for you. Thank you Tori
I Believe in Peace-BITCH. Great Performace by all. Tori- vocals, piano, movements. Drummer unbelievable. Lead and Bass had classic moments
Couldn't have put it better myself. This is the ultimate version of The Waitress!
That’s exactly what Pepper said to RiderWar in ⚔️GoodOmens⚔️.
Tori Amos is friends with Neil Gaiman.
Tori Amos is my drug of choice
Every time
💙🦋
Hell yes.
One of the most memorable and powerful performances I have ever seen. Left a deep impression on me as a teen and so glad to revisit it here as an adult.

"They're too many stars and not enough sky" - genius

Caution: musical genius at work.
Caton’s guitar adds so much atmosphere, really brings all the pieces together
The most powerful performance of Tori I have seen on youtube so far. Amazing.
I watch this video A LOT. There is a live outdoor concert from the late 90s that is pretty close to this level of incredible for about 45 minutes.
good lord
this version, her musicians, HER, all magnificent.
This version...I guess from venus n back 'still orbiting'..perfect.....in every aspect heaven sent ...TORI AMOS

Underrated piano player.
It's music!!
Many seem to have lost the meaning and magic of each musician playing from the heart to align our soul and wake us up to an answer...
Plugged Tour was my first show... what I wouldn't give to go back to 1998 and see Tori live again in this way.
I like her uniqe behaviors as she plays, even though some people don't like them.
It's real, and you can tell she feels the music, that's what i like. *edit* besides what other pianist/vocalist do we have to compare her to in this genre? She is her very own.
Who doesn’t like them???
She’s a performer a artist, whom expresses deep deep emotional driven passion from life’s experiences
She's a goddess.... she's in to her music.... ppl that don't like it aren't true fans And don't understand.... no one compares ♡
She's the freaking best woman singer and piano player!!! I love her. I ve been listening to her for years! And she still amazes me. She's so beautiful.
I hate to say it, and I'm very happy for her on a personal level. But, back when she was clearly unhappy, the music was fucking tremendous.
That seems to be the truth. She seemed (back then) bitter and angry and it flowed through her music in a powerful way. The energy in the performance is incredible
I saw her perform Waitress live in 1998 in Concord CA. One of the best experiences of my life.
I was there, too! Exceptional.
Musical genius. One of the greatest joys in my life.
This makes me breathless ❤️
Michaela Antonsson me 2
Always so touched by this version. Happy to see so many fans here, I love your taste of music!
This helps my soul, when I just want to scream at all the ‘waitresses’ in my life
LOVE Tori, but
Matt Chamberlain's drumming just blew me away!!
rfmitchell7 Matty hits things
rfmitchell7 She STILL is!!!!!
Matt is phenomenal, and Tori is divine!
I believe in peace bitch ! :)
This is a awesome performance !
what a masterpiece and what a performance from the whole band...and Tori absolute goddess
I was not a fan of the song recorded version, but this live version is INCREDIBLE.
Like the version on her 5th album. Both are incredible.
I listen to this song all the time. I’m obsessed with it and Tori. I’m in love with her completely 😊
Tori is such a genius…I don’t believe there will ever be another like her during this lifetime.❤️👌
This performance is spotless👌
My piano goddess ❤😊😘
I come back to this one often. It's incredible.

Always amazes me even I already watched thousand times
Tori is stunning 🕊☘️🍀❤️
Love her voice and videos 😂😍💕
It's funny, my wife and daughter don't like her or her music. She doesn't really fit in my wheelhouse of musical tastes but I absolutely LOVE her music. She is stunning, passionate and has excellent composition skills.
She is calling upon the Gods for strength. This is an incredibly demanding song or "girl" as Tori might say imo.
*goddesses 😂❤
The first time I saw/heard this version, i was floored. Soooo awesome. Tori went to town and the bass and drums and guitar were crazy on point. Love it.
The musical vibe in this concert is on a whole different level.

You have a very descriptive way with words. Wow
holy shit, that was good!!
I felt the same way! Every element just pops, and her delivery toward the end is so forceful it's truly sublime.
Those drums and guitar tone sound perfect to these ears.
Truly the height of her powers. I got to see her do this twice, and meet her. She gives the best hugs!
amazing song. amazing performer. amazing live version.
This lady ages like fine wine....best live show ever 2022

Start with the ’92 album and work your way forward :) I heard Caught A Lite Sneeze in 96, ordered all 3 albums and that was it. Seen her live at least 7 times and she’s still my go to. Her first 7 albums are timeless....

This is a brilliant performance of this song, I listen to it almost daily
Perfection, and Matt kills it every single time. Amazing piece of music.
Her tea… her arms… her voice… sexy, haunting, psychotic, and enchanting all at the same time. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I spent so much of my life listening to this song...and no knowing what she said...>_> I just learned it's "hang-ah-ten-ah"...
I wondered if she was in the zone and just started "speaking in tongues". ;)
i don’t remember EXACTLY what it means, but I remember that one of the chants she does in this meant like calling for “source” or an entity that is representative of source, to like “come back” and set things straight?? >_< kind of deal, lol
So happy to have seen her live a couple times, one of them at a small cafe in Utrecht, Netherlands.
Brilliant. Have always the live version of this song.
The tea at the beginning 👹
Best Mic drop ever!!!
i want to know what kind of tea she's drinking. it looks yummy lol
kind of looked like hot apple cider
datura1983 I know, right? I was totally like, “Oh. Look. Tea! :D”
datura1983 Duncan’s ginger drink perhaps???
🩶GREAT PERFORMANCE🖤!
A waitress must have really been horrible😅.
Thank You Sincerely, horrible waitress 🤣.

The band is amazing as well!!
omg absolutely electrifying. Chills. EVERY. time!!!!
I so needed to listen to this today.
09:20 Mic drop in 1998. Respect.
She also uses the Cherokee motions which call upon, "The Great Spirit" or "Great Apportioner", pronounced, " oo - nee -quah. "
"Jesus ten fingers were hung" in Golgatha... near Europe. Hang Ten. Dead bodies stink if left along for too long.
Jurisdiction and Penal Codes dividing my Homeland. Let her get that out of the way, then we can talk about life, and the thereafter.
After all these decades of imagining this performance with an elaborate light show I FINALLY see it as surprisingly intimate. 🥰
And. If google is going to put ads on this upload does that mean the band gets a cut? 😒
I always have to listen to this song...addictive!!
jesus!!! i wish i was there men!
You would have loved seeing her live, too bad you missed her tour 🕊
Living legend ❤
Demonically talented and majestic ❤
