It's amazing how a song can take on a different meaning, the older I get. I'm 43 and have been a fan since my early teens. I have two amazing children and I just played this song for them while making a valentine box for school ... And I just lost it and balled. Her lyrics and metaphors are so powerful. They continue to be an influence and inspiration for the way I think about things and view life. Truly an artist that reaches the soul like very few can.
I totally agree with you. This was my gf’s favorite record when it came out. I think it was because she too was a redhead and had a complicated relationship with her dad. She loved this song. We used to sing “when you gonna love you as much as I do” and laugh. We’d look at each other when Tori sang “never change” and wonder what was to be. She went missing later that summer. That fall her dad called me when they found her body to tell me she was pregnant at the time she was murdered. I’ve listened to this song so many times, and as the decades pass I hear new things. But some days I feel like it’s never changed.
The heart, the hurt, the passion, is written all over this beautiful woman's face with every word she sings. It still brings me to tears after so many years. A staggering song that wishes you could just repeatedly keep hitting the like button.
This song takes me back to being a teenager and walking my dog Harry every day. I’d have headphones on playing artists like Tori Amos and he and I were so free together. So young; we could walk effortlessly forever. I can still see him as I call him back onto his lead. Running back to me joyfully. It’s powerful to remember my lovely dog, my close friend, through this song. I love you Harry. Thank you for walking with me all those nights.
The first time I heard this was on a cold Winter day in my car. I pulled over to listen, mesmerized, on an icy road under falling snow, living in a town I hated but couldn't leave. I didn't catch who it was on the radio. It was like the time I saw the most beautiful woman in the world on the Star Ferry crossing from Hong Kong to Kowloon, simply brush the hair out of her eyes, and I saw novels. I listened to the same station hoping to catch the song again and find out who it was. Some time later, I lay in bed late one night and the song came on the radio. I was transfixed when the phone rang. A very rare event in my tiny basement apartment. I didn't jump out of bed to answer it. I had to hear this song again, see the beauty in Hong Kong again, and learn who was singing. The phone rang and rang and then stopped. The next day my mother called me. She said, "Your grandmother died yesterday. I tried to call you."
What a beautiful intimate performance - just breathtaking. Also, Tori must be a studio engineers dream, you can simply record her and press directly onto record - so flawless.

My Daddy would know when I was struggling. He would walk in and turn this song on repeat. Dad, it's been 6 years. I know your energy rushes to me everytime I listen. I love me like you do now!!!
Tori is amazing. I've watched many people sing songs over my 50 years. Before she sings, you can see a memory spark for her. She's far away in the past but at the same time, present with her audience. It's a rare thing to see in artists who sing the same songs thousands of times during their career. She is one of a kind.
Spent a week in the hospital with my dad recently, just after being introduced to this song for the first time. Had it on a loop in my head, and it made me treasure the time we had together so much. 💜
My relation with both my parents was one of nothing at all (accident). This song brings tears to my hart. Not of the feeling of missing out on something, but pure of the beauty of this song. Thank you Tori to connected to something I thought that wasn't there. Hug.
I live your pain my good friend, estranged from both parents, they died and I didn't even know until years after, this song gives me something, I can't explain it.
Also, technical mystery on this song, I'm shocked this was shot in HD in 1991. Very very few HD cameras back then. Either that or somebody did a stellar upscale of this video.
@@warre1 That's amazing. I'll be forever grateful for the team that made this decision. What a treat to capture this moment so early in her career in such high quality.
This has to be one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen. The emotional immediacy of every line is staggering, it's the kind of song where you're almost riding along on it from moment to moment. At 4:57, as Tori's singing 'All the white horses', it almost looks as if the song gets too much even for her. A moment of truly raw emotion in a performance full of them.
My father died in May of 2015. Tori was one of his favorite musicians, and he was the one who made me a huge fan of hers in my pre-teen and teen years. When papa wasn't listening to talk radio, he would play one of the CDs that he burned of her live performances and other recordings, and he bought me copies of "Little Earthquakes" and "Under The Pink" for my 13th birthday. Ever since his passing, I make sure to listen to Tori's music on his birthday (Feb. 18) and Father's Day. Rest in peace, dad. Until we meet again someday.
Listened to this on my evening walk. I listened to the album version first and then listened to this live performance. It was still playing when I walked up on the porch and I stood and watched my wife feeding our kids through the window. It truly was surreal.
This is the most underrated Song in Music History. Heard it 2024 for the first time. Took my breath away when I heard it for the first time as a background in radio. Turned louder and felt in love.
The emotional power of this song gets me man. We all hear about masterpieces and such as we get older and I think we all will eventually find that one personal "Masterpiece" that is hard to not revisit. Tori is very underrated and In my opinion on a Mozart level of mastery in her music. Her music is amazing.
i sang this at karaoke yesterday for the first time, taking inspiration from this live version. i was worried that either (a) i would butcher the pitch, as i sometimes do for songs; or (b) people wouldn't be interested because it's a slow song and they probably wouldn't know it. but i didn't mess it up, and the bar was transfixed!! my boyfriend heard someone say, "i don't know this song, but i like it". such an incredible song. 🤍
I lost my grandma unexpectedly at 12, the only woman I'll ever truly know as a mother. Tori came along and helped fill that huge void left by such an amazing woman. Thank you for being an equally amazing woman and inspiration, Tori 💖

First heard this about 10 years ago and come back to it annually. Cannot get through Winter without another listen.
"When you gonna make your mind, when you gonna love yourself as much as I do" always breaks my heart. Brilliantly beautiful. I don't believe is angels, but if they exist Tori is one... what a beautiful creature.
Stunning. The lyrics. Her voice. Her prowess on the piano. I just found this video. It’s a masterpiece. She’s beautiful inside and out. The emotion that she shows while singing this song is obvious. She wrote this about her dad which just gives it even more meaning to her and us listening to it. I will be listening to this forever.
How anybody can be in that audience and not lose their ever-loving minds when she starts this song is beyond my ability to understand. One of the most beautiful songs ever created in the history of recorded music. Chills. EVERY. Single. TIME!
All time favorite Tori tune. Last night I had a flotation therapy session and I had my own playlist i made on in the pod. When this song came on.... holy hell. I cant even describe the feeling of being completely surrounded by this song. Just feeling that building composition wash over me. The whole experience took me somewhere outside of the pod. I never knew my dad, this song explains, why now at the age of 49 it still hurts. Saw her live in1994 - she was amazing, atill love to listen to her now. Thank You Tori xx
I was here at this magical unforgettable concert, and she was absolutely right, things will change...absolutely everything has changed, and almost nothing for the better. The word change synonymous with complete degradation. Her point being stay strong in your heart and soul as everything around you tears into pieces.

@@kenadams5504 Hey a-hole, the Washington Post did a big story on that years ago, but you were still in your Mommies Womb and had no clue.
Thank you Tori. I just lost my dad a few months ago and this song really helped. Cheers.
I don't know how to watch this performance without crying
My Daddy would know when I was struggling. He would walk in and turn this song on repeat. Dad, it's been 6 years. I know your energy rushes to me everytime I listen. I love me like you do now!!!
I never heard of her or this song until today. I can't believe what I've found.. I love you Tori ❤
Welcome to the tribe SunRay.
There is a special connection between a father and a daughter. This song seems to sum it up well.
He father was a minister and very supportive of her...
She sings with such powerful emotion, you can feel her affection of endearment and love through the ripples in her voice.
I remember going to school at 645am. listening to WHFS and hearing Tori on a cold impactful morning...now my niece does lyrical dances to this...❤
Also, technical mystery on this song, I'm shocked this was shot in HD in 1991. Very very few HD cameras back then. Either that or somebody did a stellar upscale of this video.
This as well the whole Montreux festival was recorded in analog Sony HDVS 1125 lines component signal and 16x9 aspect ratio.
Agree and I love the tenderness when she says “in my father’s glove”
My father died in May of 2015. Tori was one of his favorite musicians, and he was the one who made me a huge fan of hers in my pre-teen and teen years. When papa wasn't listening to talk radio, he would play one of the CDs that he burned of her live performances and other recordings, and he bought me copies of "Little Earthquakes" and "Under The Pink" for my 13th birthday. Ever since his passing, I make sure to listen to Tori's music on his birthday (Feb. 18) and Father's Day.
Rest in peace, dad. Until we meet again someday.
This song is haunting and beautiful. It gives me chills. I don't know if Tori ever sings her songs the same twice. I love it.
She doesn't. Every concert is different. I saw her in concert as a teen.
So much emotion in this performance!
Listened to this on my evening walk. I listened to the album version first and then listened to this live performance. It was still playing when I walked up on the porch and I stood and watched my wife feeding our kids through the window. It truly was surreal.
I’m still listening to this song in 2021 ! This has to be her best song she’s ever done.
Loving her new album ocean to ocean also
This is the most underrated Song in Music History.
2021 and I find myself watching this with different eyes than I did in the 90's. So many dreams....
So damn beautiful
i sang this at karaoke yesterday for the first time, taking inspiration from this live version. i was worried that either (a) i would butcher the pitch, as i sometimes do for songs; or (b) people wouldn't be interested because it's a slow song and they probably wouldn't know it. but i didn't mess it up, and the bar was transfixed!! my boyfriend heard someone say, "i don't know this song, but i like it". such an incredible song. 🤍
I lost my grandma unexpectedly at 12, the only woman I'll ever truly know as a mother. Tori came along and helped fill that huge void left by such an amazing woman. Thank you for being an equally amazing woman and inspiration, Tori 💖
ANGEL VOICE, BEAUTIFUL LIKE THE SUN, WITH RED HAIR
I think i'm in love with '90s era Tori. So incredibly talented, uniquely pretty, quirky and edgy.
She has a real Kate Bush vibe.
Definitely influenced by Kate Bush.
Goose bumps even after all these years...fantastic emotional song
Get a little warm in my heart when I listen to anything Tori. =)
Name someone as beautiful and magnificent as her. I’ll wait.
AGNES OBEL : more beautiful and her music is even more elaborate, as it's closer to classical music. ua-cam.com/video/j1wgaFJ0750/v-deo.html&start_radio=1
I remember always hearing Tori Amos as a little one from my dad. Besides Queen,Pink Floyd, led Zeppelin,Alanis Morsette.
💗👁💗
The best!
And no matter how many times I've seen or heard this, there's always something new that reveals itself.
Yes ........ Layers of truths and secrets hidden awaiting to be revealed
I come back to this song and performance from time to time and have for years and will continue to. She is gripping and dripping with talent. Should have 550 million views if not a billion.
Never fails to make me cry on Christmas day. I miss my Dad.
Stunning. The lyrics.
Chills. EVERY. Single. TIME!
A month before turning 28...
6 months before Little Earthquakes...
Years before her trusty Bosendorfer...
A young Tori absolutely KILLING IT!!
If you float and like to listen to your own playlists, definitely add this track. Its amazing
Float on.
Her best song, on another level
Tori's songs can evoke every human emotion, and can transport you into another realm of being. She is a musical genius, Love her.
If I ever get through this song without tearing up…. Reminds me of my dad as well. Such a beautifully written song.
I have watching this a zillion times. The song is so heart-wrenching for me, because I do NOT have this relationship with my father. IMHO It is one of the most beautiful performances....even . I consider myself blessed to have seen you in the late '80s at the State Theater in Kalamazoo.
Im sure this performance changed the life of everyone who was present !!
