These two concerts from Montreux in 1991 and 1992 catch Tori Amos right at the start of her solo career. The first from July 1991 was filmed a few months before the release of her "Little Earthquakes" album and the second from July 1992 followed a few months after. There is a fascinating progression from one year to the next as she grows in confidence and skill as a live performer, buoyed by the critical and commercial success of the album. Naturally most of the songs are taken from "Little Earthquakes" but there are also rare songs from her various EPs released across the two years which didn't make it onto the album including her distinctive takes on Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and "Thank You" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

one of the best songs ever written and one of the best performances ive ever seen by far. ik this type of praise gets throw around but she really is the most underrated artist of her generation. all of her immense talents r on display in this performance. shes like a beautiful witch, shes performing magic with the piano with her voice. when i finally heard this song it blew me away, i wasnt aware of her music, i knew her name, but when i heard this song i couldnt believe it. a masterpiece. and then to find this live performance... theres only a few times in my adult life that i was blown away by a live performance of a song. its a rare feeling, like when your a kid and u discover dylan or hendrix... this is my fav song, its closest thing ive seen to real magic... other live songs that blew me away for those looking for that rare feeling; here u go: Mitski Live: "I Bet on Losing Dogs" - The AEA Sessions ---- Florence + The Machine - Shake It Out (Live on SNL) ---- Carole King - So Far Away (BBC In Concert, February 10, 1971) ---- Jorja Smith - Blue Lights | A COLORS SHOW ---- PJ Harvey performs The Last Living Rose Guardian Music ---- Lady Gaga perform "Perfect Illusion" in Japan 2016 ---- The Carpenters - Rainy Days And Mondays (The Johnny Cash Show 720p) ---- No Doubt - Don't Speak (Live @ California 1997) ---- Sarah Vaughan - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (Live from Holland 1958) ---- Eva Noblezada | "Take Me To Church" ---- Sammy Davis Jr - Ol' Man River ---- Counting Crows “Round Here” on the Howard Stern Show (2008)

I'm 43 and have been a fan since my early teens. I have two amazing children and I just played this song for them while making a valentine box for school ... And I just lost it and balled.

      I totally agree with you.
This was my gf’s favorite record when it came out. I think it was because she too was a redhead and had a complicated relationship with her dad. She loved this song. We used to sing “when you gonna love you as much as I do” and laugh. We’d look at each other when Tori sang “never change” and wonder what was to be.
She went missing later that summer. That fall her dad called me when they found her body to tell me she was pregnant at the time she was murdered.
I’ve listened to this song so many times, and as the decades pass I hear new things. But some days I feel like it’s never changed.

The first time I heard this was on a cold Winter day in my car. I pulled over to listen, mesmerized, on an icy road under falling snow, living in a town I hated but couldn't leave. I didn't catch who it was on the radio. It was like the time I saw the most beautiful woman in the world on the Star Ferry crossing from Hong Kong to Kowloon, simply brush the hair out of her eyes, and I saw novels. I listened to the same station hoping to catch the song again and find out who it was. Some time later, I lay in bed late one night and the song came on the radio. I was transfixed when the phone rang. A very rare event in my tiny basement apartment. I didn't jump out of bed to answer it. I had to hear this song again, see the beauty in Hong Kong again, and learn who was singing. The phone rang and rang and then stopped. The next day my mother called me. She said, "Your grandmother died yesterday. I tried to call you."

Hi Tori, don't know if you will remember me but I was a regular at your piano at the Marbury House's Lion's Gate Taverne, one night during your break you asked me to walk you to the 4 Seasons snack bar, that was when you told me about your upcoming plans to record music. Hated seeing you go, it took until mid 2000's till I figured out you became Tori Amos, I knew you as Ellen. You were amazing then, late 80's as you are now. Special talent.

She's far away in the past but at the same time, present with her audience. It's a rare thing to see in artists who sing the same songs thousands of times during their career. She is one of a kind.

My father died in May of 2015. Tori was one of his favorite musicians, and he was the one who made me a huge fan of hers in my pre-teen and teen years. When papa wasn't listening to talk radio, he would play one of the CDs that he burned of her live performances and other recordings, and he bought me copies of "Little Earthquakes" and "Under The Pink" for my 13th birthday. Ever since his passing, I make sure to listen to Tori's music on his birthday (Feb. 18) and Father's Day.
Rest in peace, dad. Until we meet again someday.

i sang this at karaoke yesterday for the first time, taking inspiration from this live version. i was worried that either (a) i would butcher the pitch, as i sometimes do for songs; or (b) people wouldn't be interested because it's a slow song and they probably wouldn't know it. but i didn't mess it up, and the bar was transfixed!! my boyfriend heard someone say, "i don't know this song, but i like it". such an incredible song. 🤍

Your genuine songs and compositions have followed me since my teeanage years and they still grow in my mind and they have been probably the best therapy for my mental pain and suffering ever! I have in deed been skating around the truth who I am and I realize now more than ever that the ice is getting thin. This particular performance in the video is really representative of how authentic and unique you are as one of the worlds greatest performers. Give me life, give me pain, give me myself again! You are truly my anchor and I can always rely on your music!
