hey everyone, i filmed this video a long time ago, but if you missed my announcement video-my agent and i sold this book! LOCAL HEAVENS is hitting shelves Fall 2025! if this project piques your interest, stay tuned for news on when you can preorder. and follow me on my other socials/my newsletter, linked in the description.
one more thing to note is that i’m sharing a version of the letter that got me the most agent interest. i refer to it as the “first draft” in this video, even though technically i had an even older draft of this letter that didn’t get me any full or partial requests. (if you want to read that draft, it’s available for ko-fi members.) also what i refer to in this video as “the current draft” is how the pitch was tweaked after signing with my agent, and kind of similar to how she pitched the book when we went on submission. i felt like it was worth showing the progression so that’s why i decided to compare/contrast the two. **it is not the copy that’s going to appear on the book jacket**
thanks for watching and best of luck with querying!

I've earmarked this video with my favorites, just as I did with Shaelin's query video. Someday ...... eventually ...... I will have a completed book, and your wisdom will save my ass from burning in the publication arena.
    Happy November.

seeing the two versions of the query side by side was honestly so helpful 😊 I honestly love queries and blurbs hehe they can be intense to write but also very fun to play with

As a reader, i always hate a vague comp that doesn't specify what makes the book similar to its comparison titiles so i love how you articulated that here

@@booksvsmovies comps are so important! agents probably see the same ones fairly often

Ahhh thanks so much for sharing this! I’m hoping to be done with my wip by February and begin the querying process. So helpful to see that it’s possible to go the traditional publishing route 🫶

I'm currently writing a book which I'm thinking I might query (if it's good enough), so this will be incredibly helpful if I do. Thank you so much!

Congrats on signing!!! Would you recommend going to writing confernces or pitching workshops for newer novelists? Thank you!

i typically don't recommend spending lots of money for something that is not guaranteed. i do think that cold querying still works just fine. but conferences are one of those things where, if you want to try it and have the means to, you can definitely give it a shot! but i don't think writers should feel pressured to.

Do you have any tips on how to write the blurb for a book with multiple pov’s and timelines?
