Deutsche Grammophon Hello, this is greeting from Japan. It is a splendid singing. It is a (unique and beautiful voice) great mezzo-soprano singer. (It is splendid that places and vibrato and volume of voice to sing stretched the voice) one of my most favorite singing, (intonation) articulation is one of my most favorite rhythm and melody composer. (Meets private guidelines) (pseudonym Alien 78)
Obviously she is brilliant in many ways, but to me it seems that when she goes for the lower notes she needs to lower her head as the low notes do not seem natural to her but when the notes are hers, well, her head takes up a normal position with the air duct straight to produce the most effect. Whatever, Elina seems to know herself well, she knows her limitations but she does experiment with her vocal assets , if one may put it that manner. Whatever she does, her voice, her female elegance and majesty harmonises with grace! Her motherhood added artistic form and depth in her wisdom. Elina is a woman with a voice who uses it as an architect to shape the spirits that reach people's hearts.
Elina has a beautiful voice, but what makes her exceptional is her husband maestro Cichone, he really brings out the best in her voice by fine tuning the orchestra to let her voice shine, not overpower her voice so we get the perfect balance. Bravo!

TRAVELLER 2201, I agree with you completely and you said it quite well and very eloquently. She stirs the soul in ways and depths that simply cannot adequately be described in English. To me now, in just a short time of knowing her and listening to her beautiful voice, I recognize her as my favorite performer on the planet, yet, like you say, I'm not familiar with the intricacies of opera, nor do we have to be. It is intriguing to see the faces of those who play in the orchestra--you can tell that, despite many rehearsals, they too are moved by her performance. How can you not be? How can you be in the audience and not get emotional knowing that her supreme gift is very possibly a link to God. I thought that way, and still do, about Bocelli's singing the Lord's Prayer--how amazing that is to hear that with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Elina Garanca is the finest entertainer on the planet who is not that well known (unfortunately) by the masses. Their loss. She is an amazing combination of talent, grace, supreme intelligence, and beauty. Bravissima!!!
I’d be interested to know why most of the chairs on stage have wooden blocks under the rear legs? Garanča was especially moving here, I haven’t kept up with her for a while. It’s always lovely to hear her and I sometimes forget how good she is until I do.
Elina is lovely to listen to, the best mezzo for a long time. This is one of her very best as she doesn't usually sing with the INTENSITY shown here, even in Operas. This piece must have a special meaning to her. Just Wonderful!
Sounded like a personal prayer from a magnificent voice. And did you notice the hush that came over the audience and when she finished, it took a few seconds for the spellbound audience to realize she had finished. Bravo Elina.

This music is haunting, disturbing yet somehow amazingly captivating. This LIVE performance is really wonderful. It obviously means a lot to Elina who sings it with real INTENSITY, something she sometimes lacks. Great performance - real "mezzo" sound. Great! Well done all. The meditation disc is great, but this one stands out.

Wonderful. She sings this with such intensity. Whilst Homoclassicus is right I preferred her "younger" voice" such as the "Mozart Aria (2006) and her singing at the Opera Gala Concert in 2007. However this is GREAT and the piece seems to mean so much to her.

I'm not going to try to even answer in French but I was thinking the same thing. You don't roll French r's and the vowels are all jacked up. I consulted with a French person before I sang this song as a solo, even though I took lots of French in school.
Jacques, let's all just face facts: no one except for native speakers of French come up to an acceptable level for you guys, and that is pretty sad. When most people on earth admire attempts of others to speak their language, it is always the boorish French speaker who seems incapable of admiration. You scoff at attempts of others to speak French. So what if it's not completely correct? Big deal. Elina may not satisfy you with her French pronunciation, but that's about the least important aspect of her performance here, and her ability in French is completely irrelevant. Lost is your ability to enjoy the performance because of a non-native speaker trying to sing in French--try that yourself and maybe we'll all die laughing! That said, I'm positive your English, like virtually every native French speaker I've ever heard, is brutal and not without a heavy accent and tons of mistakes. That's another fact--native French speakers are worse in English than any other non-native speaker--hands down, the worst. That fact mystifies us all because the French are neighbors to England, but unlike the Dutch who do so well in English, the French butcher the language. Elina is brilliant, could be considered a genius, and speaks fluent English and German. Your comment "La diction francaise est totalement incomprehensible" is just so typical of native French speakers--caught up with language quality issues instead of being focused on the entire world class performance that this truly is. Au revoir! Did that sound OK?
You talk bullshit. I am sorry to say this to you. But that's plain truth. The French have got a lot of difficulties in the English-language pronunciation (that's true ; by the way, the English-language pronunciation is very illogical and considered to be one of the hardest ones to learn in the world. Why are the first two syllables 'Italy' and 'Italian' not pronounced the same way, for instance? ). However the French-speakers are very good (excellent, I would say) at the English-language spelling. Most of the French speakers (who master English) have generally got a perfect English-language spelling, whereas a lot of English-speakers cannot correctly write English words of French origin ("effect" and "to affect"). By the way, the French are also very good at Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. So saying the French are not good at foreign languages is not true. I am French and I can speak several foreign languages, i.e. Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and English. I can also speak some Dutch and German. Please tell me, how many English-speakers of Britain or North America can speak a foreign language fluently?
Like the Brits, the Dutch can speak good English, but their English-language spelling is rather poor, especially when they write English words of French or Latin origin, like 'accord' for instance. I noticed this during my travel through 'Nederland' (the Netherlands).

Comme souvent chez nos stars actuelles, la "diction" française est totalement in-com-pré-hen-si-ble !! À partir de là, mille autres qualités ne sauraient rien changer au fait que la prestation, qui n'est certes pas nulle, est néanmoins non avenue. Sinon, la musique est naturellement merveilleuse. :-)
I'm not going to try to even answer in French but I was thinking the same thing. You don't roll French r's and the vowels are all jacked up. I consulted with a French person before I sang this song as a solo, even though I took lots of French in school.
Jacques, let's all just face facts: no one except for native speakers of French come up to an acceptable level for you guys, and that is pretty sad. When most people on earth admire attempts of others to speak their language, it is always the boorish French speaker who seems incapable of admiration. You scoff at attempts of others to speak French. So what if it's not completely correct? Big deal. Elina may not satisfy you with her French pronunciation, but that's about the least important aspect of her performance here, and her ability in French is completely irrelevant. Lost is your ability to enjoy the performance because of a non-native speaker trying to sing in French--try that yourself and maybe we'll all die laughing! That said, I'm positive your English, like virtually every native French speaker I've ever heard, is brutal and not without a heavy accent and tons of mistakes. That's another fact--native French speakers are worse in English than any other non-native speaker--hands down, the worst. That fact mystifies us all because the French are neighbors to England, but unlike the Dutch who do so well in English, the French butcher the language. Elina is brilliant, could be considered a genius, and speaks fluent English and German. Your comment "La diction francaise est totalement incomprehensible" is just so typical of native French speakers--caught up with language quality issues instead of being focused on the entire world class performance that this truly is. You talk bullshit. I am sorry to say this to you. But that's plain truth. The French have got a lot of difficulties in the English-language pronunciation (that's true ; by the way, the English-language pronunciation is very illogical and considered to be one of the hardest ones to learn in the world. Why are the first two syllables 'Italy' and 'Italian' not pronounced the same way, for instance? ). However the French-speakers are very good (excellent, I would say) at the English-language spelling. Most of the French speakers (who master English) have generally got a perfect English-language spelling, whereas a lot of English-speakers cannot correctly write English words of French origin ("effect" and "to affect"). By the way, the French are also very good at Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. So saying the French are not good at foreign languages is not true. I am French and I can speak several foreign languages, i.e. Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and English. I can also speak some Dutch and German. Please tell me, how many English-speakers of Britain or North America can speak a foreign language fluently?
Like the Brits, the Dutch can speak good English, but their English-language spelling is rather poor, especially when they write English words of French or Latin origin, like 'accord' for instance. I noticed this during my travel through 'Nederland' (the Netherlands).
