This might be the best tutorial I've ever seen. Straight to the point, very clear, every tool and size noted, no fluff.
Thanks!
Agreed this is how tutorials should be done.
I didn't see your comment before I said something very similar; completely agree!
Great video! Worked like a charm. I ust completed this in under an hour taking my time. I didn’t remove the tire or liner but definitely would have made it easier. Thank you this guide.
I just did this on my Gladiator this afternoon and i wanted to thank you for posting this. It took us about an hour and a half because I took my time. It was so simple and i save myself $300 that the dealer was going to charge me. Just wanted tonsay thanks.
After debating on which method to use (top or bottom), I chose the top as it seemed easier. However the information about switching out the terminals of the aux battery without needing a special socket was very helpful. Thanks for making the video.
Great tutorial. Making it even easier is I have aftermarket fender liners that are removed easily with three screws. I didn't remove my 37" tire, I turned the steering wheel full driver lock and had plenty of room.
Way better than the time sink top method. Thank you sir.
Well done! Exactly the right amount of clear and well described detail. Great Work, and Thank You!
Amazing tutorial! This is so much less complicated than the top replacement (plus I serendipitously already had my compartment exposed due to an accident where someone knocked off my fender and guard, so even easier to get to!). Thanks!
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Did mine through the top today, before knowing about this alternative method. Took me around an hour. I’m not a great mechanic. Nice video though! I think I’d still go through the top next time. It’s pretty simple and I hate removing clips for the wheel well and reinstalling. Just my .02 thanks for the video!
Thanks!
Gladiator #2 Aux battery just went out, Video came through again brother. thanks again
Glad it helped! My second aux battery still had issues. I decided to bypass the aux battery and so far everything is still working just no auto stop/start.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance niceeeee I’d like to check out that aux bypass. By the way, it’s a nightmare bolting it back up with those dang wires man lol
Thanks for sharing. Took me about 45 minutes to change mine on a 21 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. I did not take off the tire, which made it tighter to work, but saved some time and hassle as well.
Do you have stock tires (17”) and no lift kit? Wondering if I should try it that way as well

@@douglasmcarroll3 I have 37" Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 17" Black Rhino Wheels with 2.5 inch lift
This is the EASY way??? What the hell have these engineers created??
Living in Phoenix AZ where it's very hot, I've already had to replace both batteries twice in 3 years. Definitely do both at the same time.
Whoa! Twice in 3 years that’s crazy.
Attention: For those that replace the battery and the error code doesn’t go away follow these steps.
1. Open hood
2. Disconnect negative terminal on the primary battery using a 10mm socket.
3. Disconnect the two other wires that are a part of the neutral cluster using a 10mm and 13mm socket .One of the other thick wires runs to the aux battery. If you do not do this step it won’t reset the ECU.
4. Wait ten minutes
5. Repeat steps in reverse
6. Your ECU is now wiped.
7. Start car
8. Drive around the block. It will take a few minutes for the start/stop to be reconfigured and it will then say start/stop ready.
I only needed to pull the negative to the Aux battery and pull fuse F42 to assure the PCR does not engage. For the ECU I disabled the Start/Stop "feature" through a Tazer. I put quotes around "feature" for obvious reasons.
Fantastic video!!!! I'm fixing to tackle this later today and you got me feeling confident! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks! Good luck with the install.
Easy Peasy today. Take off right front tire. Leave it on the Jack. Use a safety stand. Used strong tape to hold a string to pull wheel liner out of the way. Laid under the battery box, unscrewed it and removed terminals. (I had to hold it sideways but is an AGM so no spillage). It took 45 minutes. No removing liner or fender….
Just as you show in the video thanks just changed mine
My autostart also stopped working. My gremlin is that sometimes my phone won’t connect with the usb-c cable. But like yours, if I turn off the whole jeep, then sit for about 15 seconds, turn it back on, and plug in my phone again, it will connect. Gotta have my music/podcasts!
I’m here because I have a 2020 JT Sport and my aux battery went bad. My exact experience like yours. My truck wouldn’t start but the AC would go on.
Hi! I love my Gladiator, but the glitches drive me crazy. After changing the aux battery it worked for awhile but started doing it again. I even started keeping it on a battery maintainer.
What AUX battery are you using now? AGM are rechargeable and aren’t as sensitive as the Mopar AUX.
I changed mine but still says battering charging any idea?
Yup. This is happening with my wrangler.
You’re the first person that has mention the AC turning on full blast when you start the jeep, my heater would start up on full blast about 50% of the time for about 2-3 minutes. I swear people thought I was crazy when I mentioned that happening. I just bought a new main battery today I’m on my way to pick it up and swap it. I think I’m going to do the bypass of the auxiliary battery, I never use the auto off/start feature, let’s see how it goes. If I ever decide (or have to) change the auxiliary battery I will 100% use your video for reference. Thanks
Great tutorial, short, easy and profesional.... Regards from México
Thanks! Glad it helped.
I got my 2021 Gladiator a month ago and today started having problems with the start/stop light warning. Don’t have time to leave it at the dealership so I’m going to try changing the battery tomorrow to see if this fixes the problem. Thanks for showing us noobs how to do it.
I’ve had so many problems with the stop/start. It was work great after I replaced the batteries but now it’s back on… 🤦🏾♂️
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance I changed mine yesterday using your video as instructions and it was super easy. So far everything is working great, no problems. I just hope it stays like that.
Thanks for the video bro!
I used my Tazr to shut off the auto start/stop all the time. But now my aux batt warning msg came on....guess I will be buying one and replacing
@@normmuelleman2570put electrical tape over the light. I did.
Just delete it
My Start/Stop just failed today on my 2020 JT Sport. I will be giving this a go once I buy the new battery. Funny, MOPAR told me it was the driver side tire, glad I didnt waste the time.
The auxiliary battery continued to give me problems so I completely bypassed it a few months ago and everything has worked great. The aux battery is nothing but trouble…
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance When you did the Bypass, did the HUD error go away for the start stop failure? Don't get me wrong, there has been a hand full of times the Start stop worked out, but only in the winter or while not off roading.
Regardless, its way to hot here in Texas for the most part to use this feature. I see no savings in fuel for it ether.
Thanks! This was very helpful!
Glad to help!
So much easier thanks!
I did this on a 2018 JLU Sahara without removing the tire or inner fender liner. I was able to bend the fender liner out of the way and replace the battery from underneath.
Replaced the auxiliary battery 2 weeks ago and now the light came up again
Changed the main battery today, does the auxiliary charge on its own?
How the battery working out?
Im doing mine tomorrow same brand, im asking because oreyle gives 1 yr warranty
Well done video!
Thanks!
Nice video. I don't use the start/stop feature, so the best step was removing the Aux battery for good riddance. It's a nuisance. An expensive one at that.
Did it affect your starter at all?
@@SummerEaze It has no effect on the starter which stays connected through the primary battery connections.
You do not need to remove the wheel, you do not need to remove inner liner completely. Just remove 7 clips (do not remove pins on the fender) and move liner to get access to the AUX battery. Even easier job...
For the past 3 weeks my jl hasn’t been starting and I thought it was the main battery. I replaced the main battery and still same issue! Is the issue with the aux battery?
Yes or you can reroute the aux battery to the main battery and remove fuse 42. We just did it and my gladiator is back cranking and running.
@@jessren1618 I changed the aux battery too and still same issue. Mechanic even took out each fuse in the fuse box and put them back same issue! Cant see the issue at all. What’s going onnnn
Nice man. Just saved me a headache
TIP: Don't skip taking the tire off. Parts guy at interstate battery and dealer both said just turn the wheel, fold fender liner back and change battery. What a pain. Pulled too much slack in cables and couldn't push it back up until I removed the tire. It's not off in video for sake of viewing. Take off the tire!
Good job. Just a bit of information... even if your battery takes a charge and is over 12.45 volts, if it drops below 10volts when it is under load (starting vehicle etc) then it means it has a bad cell, which is very likely why yours wouldn't start with the old battery.
Thanks for the info!
I had a battery test 12.8 volts but when you put a load on it, 5.6 volts. Take the load off and it went back over twelve. You need a high load test light to really test a battery. In short, I am sure yours was bad.
Can you replace the aux while the main is connected? It can be tricky for the positive will be live at that time.
Thanks for this video. Do you have a link for the battery?
I don’t have a link for the battery. I had a hard finding a battery I got lucky and found one at a local auto parts store.
My 2019 YJ Golden Eagle is starting to act up but thought it was from not driving it that much.
I put the main battery on a battery trickle charger and the aux battery is still a problem. I’m going to delete the aux altogether. It is nothing but problems.
Great video! Is there a battery you recommend for auxiliary? One better then another?
Thanks! I don’t know what the best aux battery is the only place that one in stock was O’reillys so I just had to go with that.
Changed the aux battery in 2019 Wrangler Sports Unlimited, per these instruction. A! Error persisted. Tried driving it and after 2 miles, the engine shut down, shifter locked, electrical went berserk flashing all kinds of dash lights and warnings. Wipers even started in slow motion. Tried emergency flashers and they appeared to work according to dash, but nothing external. Tried disconnecting primary battery but all lights continued flashing. Absolutely no means to shut off power while parked on the shoulder of the highway. We could only stand by and watch as we smelled the overheating aux battery. AAA towed to my home about a mile away. I immediately removed the wheel and fender well cowling, and dropped the aux battery. It was too hot to handle without literally burning the skin of my hand. If there is no recall now, there better be soon. We're currently putting together a letter to send to State and US Representatives and Senators. Right now, this $40k+ danger to wellbeing is parked in my garage while we try to figure out what is going on. Praying it doesn't spontaneously combust.
Update:
After much research, found the primary issue as well as several others along the way. Jeep has a high voltage fuse bank connected to the top and side of the fuse box. It is a long strip connected by 6 studs and nuts. One of these fuses is a150 amp and any incidental arc can blow it. When this occurs, the entire cabin electrical can go berserk. I must assume an arc occurred during initial battery swap. Moreover, to completely disconnect batteries from vehicle, the two ground terminals connected to negative post of primary battery must be disconnected not only from the post but from one another. Hope this helps someone.
I just wished the switch on dash for stop start, was to turn it on rather than off.
Do those screws fit on all the group 400 aux 14 batteries?
What about pushing the battery back up. The wires get in the way.
Good video !
Thanks!
No need to remove the wheel or fender. Turn wheel to full lock for easy access to the aux battery.
Does the 2008 jeep wrangler have a 2nd battery as well?
Thank you
no problem
I think my ultimate solution for this will be the Genesis dual battery setup.
That sounds like a good solution. The aux battery is a pain.
You actually don't even have to take off the tire or the entire liner... just turn the wheel all the way to the left and pull out the left side of the liner.
I changed out the main battery on my jeep gladiator, and now it won’t power the gear selector. Is this what the auxiliary battery powers? I can’t even put it in gear.
I haven’t heard of that specific, but the auxiliary battery is nothing but trouble. I was having all types of weird electrical issues, so 4 or 5 months I bypassed it all together and haven’t had any issues since.
Seems common these go out sooner rather than later.
How old is your JT?
It is about 2 and a half years old.
Even easier way… Delete the Aux battery all together, Its only function is for the start stop feature at red lights.
incorrect. when my aux battery had issues my heater fan wouldnt come on. This isnt something u can delete
@@DRYVE When you delete the AUX, you hook its red cable to the main battery. So yes you can delete it you just have to rewire the AUX red cable to main.
If don’t want to cancel aux battary then remove fuse box & change aux battary ..no need open tire, liner & clips.
I removed my aux battery 4 years ago and have never regretted it.
I was still having problems even after replacing the auxiliary battery, so I bypassed it. So far no regrets everything is working finally!
Do you not have auto Start then? Because my auto start runs from my and my start/stop flex fuel feature
Yes stop start still works but you will be running it off youre main starting battery and that can leave you stranded if the main runs dead. Ive never used the stop start feature so I dont have any worries about that.@@jennettehallet3859
@@jennettehallet3859what?
@@MoreDirtMoreDistancehow did you bypass this ?
Hi, thanks for the video.
one thing, testing the battery with multimeter is not accurate, you need to load it to get the real info.
Thanks for the info.
Does the aux battery control the trailer lights plug?
No I bypassed the aux battery a few months ago and the trailer lights work.
@MoreDirtMoreDistance aApprexiate it. My trailer lights went out because of a burned fuse and the problem was solved.
My auto start/stop quit working and controls starting operating randomly.
Nice tip that I hope to never need :)
It will happen eventually 🤣
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance andddddddddd here I am! started getting "aux devices will be unavailble until battery is charged" after about 10 mins of driving they work again........time to get a new aux battery I guess! which did you purchase ?
@@DeanJohnson67 I got fed up with the aux battery and just bypassed it all together. Everything has been working fine now.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance I probably should do the same! though I will replace the main battery soon since it will be 4 years this october
Anybody have there jeep die at a red light and not start sometimes due to aux battery being dead?
Wow. Didn't know that could happen. Was it the Auxiliary battery?
@@OWN12SI changed the aux battery and it hasn’t done it since hopefully that was it
Beware, the auxiliary battery on a RHD drive is not under the fuse box..... it is under the main battery.
omg my salvation same issues at dealer now both battery replacement $$110 not under warranty lucky me
why was it not covered under warranty? Was your warranty out or did they just not cover batteries?
This is how i did it as well. AUX Battery was at 25% and was draining the main battery. Was getting all kids of codes.
12 DTC codes. U115F, U120C, U1186, U1141, U0125, U0129, U0121, U1110, U1120, U11BC, U11A8, U11BF
This is ridiculous overall! First of all why 2 batteries??? And second, it couldn’t be mounted in a better spot? And to hell with those plastic clips!
The second battery has been nothing but trouble. I’ve gotten use to working with clips. I just keep a bag of them if they break they break.
Isn’t the second battery for the auto stop/start system?
My 2018 jlu had a problem starting when mine went bad I had to click it times then it would start 😂
🤣🤣🤣
After you changed the battery did you still have “start/stop is not available, battery is charging” message
Yeah, because the main battery was also bad. Once I changed the main battery the stop/start worked correctly. I started using a battery maintainer since I don’t drive it very many miles.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance I just had the main battery checked at autozone
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance and it was good
@@raycabrera941 I’m not sure why it’s not working then. Maybe after driving it for awhile the message will go away.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance my buddy said not all the aux batteries are charged fully when you buy them
Honestly the approach from engine compartment is easier than this option.
Bro says "Remove the auxiliary battery the easy way." Starts taking off wheels LOL.
The regular way is so much easier. It just looks more intimidating.
Still liked the video tho. No hate.
Yes I lost power steering at 7Omph for like 6 miles!!!!
What?! That’s crazy dangerous. Good thing you stayed calm.
Nice , just got charged 700 bucks for this because my extended warranty doesn’t cover batteries. 🙄
This method sucks you have to break the clips and some clips are a pain in to break. You’ll be better off just doing it the other way
Thanks for sharing your experience
There is no reason for any of this.
There’s absolutely nothing easy about that install.
I just did this to mine and went in through the top, I found it was easier than taking off my tire, jacking it up, ripping off my fender and tire well and going in from the bottom, I also didn't have to go get new clips and expose the batt compartment to the outside elements from the bottom. Top way isn't super easy, but a little patience is all you need, just my 10 cents
I have to agree. I easily replaced both of my batteries today from the top side. Took it one step at a time, didn’t break anything, went fairly smooth, ended up going much much quicker than I expected. Just thought I’d add my experience for those who have not attempted replacing the batteries yet. For those embarking on the voyage, I wish you smooth seas whether you try it from the top or bottom!
That's all well and good until you bend a pin on your power distribution center and create a bigger problem....it's best not to mess with it. Will never own a newer jeep. There is multiple different ways I've done all include going through the bottom which is best to have spare clips if you take the whole fender off that gives you the most room or taking the inner fender away from the flare because those clips aren't reusable once you pull them....anyway this is just a stupid design the models that have the access panel right under the main starting where it doesn't involve the fuse box/ecm were a little better thought out. The models that have them right next to each other Grand cherrokee and cherrokee were also a better design. Still hate the aux batteries in general on all makes.
Very smart from jeep 😂
This is NOT the any way. It takes twice as long as going under the fuse box
Thanks for sharing your experience. It was fast and easy for me.
This is NOT easier than thru the top!!
