Final Touches Before Planting Oat Field/ Fertilizer, Discing, Cultivating

  • It's a snowy morning on the farm. Alan is in the final stages of field prep on 3 fields that he plans to put oats on. First, he is spreading some fertilizer on the fields, while Paul, lightly works it in with the International 1066 and field cultivator. The last rented field still needed to be disced a bit before it can be planted, so Alan takes the International 1256 and John Deere Disc over to smooth it out a bit. The 3 fields are now ready to have some seed put in the ground. The last thing we share is that Justin and Jordan had the opportunity to attend a youth education night, where they learned about beef cattle nutrition and how to assist with a cow calving. The boys even got to help pull a calf on Helga the cow.

    Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.

    So refreshing to see Alan with one child or another in the tractor out in the fields. This time spent with their Dad they will always remember fondly.

    Always love the 1066 and 1256. What a perfect Era that was with farm innovation. . I take pride in people who keep these classic tractors going and working as intended to. I do run them myself

    Match the calf with the pelvis is good information everyone should know when pulling calves. It will save the cow a lot of problems after calving. Great video.

    It's GO time. 5" of snow in May a couple of times over the years but the oats always seemed to weather it well.

    Your "post video" video was the best part! Watching the future of AG learning from a Pro should have its own video. You are doing it right, raising your children with "chores", and getting them to events where they can learn new things. 👍, Allen, and your dear wife, who has to be all in for you to succeed.!

    A word of advice, in the future try to get a spreader with two spreader blades. The spread pattern is more uniform across the field with two spinners

    I appreciate that you are posting on a more regular basis. I hope that it is paying off for you. Your family deserves it. Do you spread manure on the oat ground?

    • @trinitydairy
      @trinitydairy  16 днів тому +1

      I usually spread it on corn or hay ground, it seems to be better for weed control that way.

    • @Stephenklausmeyer-hr9rb
      @Stephenklausmeyer-hr9rb 16 днів тому

      Do you spread composted manure? Fresh manure is too "hot." I mean that the nitrogen level would be detrimental to corn.

    • @trinitydairy

      Some composted, and Some fresh.

    My 1066 had 2 12 volt batteries making 12 . Is your farm making so little money that you have to drive school bus when you Have all the old equipment that needs so much repair Always believe in so much work but if you can't make it that's ruff.

    • @garygrandadam7849
      @garygrandadam7849 16 днів тому +2

      You really have no idea about farming do you? Bidenomics is making it twice as hard to raise a family let alone farm. Farming is a way of life. Loving what you do. Just be a good little boy and enjoy the vids and keep your sideways little comments to yourself thank you.

    • @trinitydairy
      @trinitydairy  16 днів тому +7

      How many people do you know that both spouses have jobs? Does that mean they aren't making it at their jobs or that the current economy requires two incomes to support a family.
      Even new equipment requires repairs and often requires an actual dealership mechanic. Repairs and maintenance are required on everything.
      The costs of everything involved in dairy farming are skyrocketing, and our creamery has us on a quota, so we can only produce a certain amount of milk a month. That's not a big deal when the price is good, but when that 100 pounds of milk drops from 18.00 a hundred to 12.00 a hundred, it definitely requires some budgeting. An emergency vet call is easily 450 dollars. That doesn't go down just because the milk price did.
      Farming margins are tight, but my wife is able to stay home with my children, our bills are paid, and my cows are fed. I think that's pretty successful.

      @trinitydairy I got a kick out of a different video were you said you had to do this and that hopefully before you had to go to work,without considering your this and that was already a days worth of work. My dad worked 12 hour shifts at green giant during corn pack along side dairy farming. Many days of little sleep but it carried use over.
