Great videos on the process of the Sonnax ZIP Kit install. I'm going to get a transmission shop to pull my 6L50 out and do this rebuild and install a new torque converter. How many hours would you suggest it should take to pull the box and go through it like you have and install the kit etc?
I have a sonnax zip kit, going to put in upgraded separator plate for my early gen body with exhaust ports so that I can use the upgraded springs for the clutch select valves. Do you recommend getting the transgo valves? Any difference
Hello Dave you say the little white buttons on the techm needs to click in first then you put the puck in after? Ok so I can not get a click out of any of the 4 buttons and thats with a pretty hard push kind of scared to push any further!! Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong? Also thanks for sharing your time on doing trans rebuilds.
If you have the disc out with the button exposed it will click with very very little pressure it's a very quiet click and may not be audible, but you should feel a very slight click.
Hello Dave, I have a question regarding a 2011 Silverado 5.3 6l80 that has 226000 miles. no trans issues but I have heard about the TC going out due to the PR valve. is it worth putting a new pr valve and billet TC? I pull a 30 ft camper and it is a daily driver. I was told that I over service it and that is what has kept it alive. Thank you!
If your gonna go through that amount of trouble build it while your there it's not worth doing it twice in my opinion especially since it has to come out any ways
Hello Dave, great video. At 8:00 you installed four seal inserts into the back side of the valve body but you didn’t talk about the remaining center support seal inserts and springs for the case. Do you recommend to install the center support seal insets and spring to the case? Thanks for sharing
Currently dealing with 6l80 trans issues on 2017 Sierra 1500, dealer is supposedly going through the steps to satisfy gm customer care for replacement. I plan on thermostat bypass and a new converter asap as this truck will tow 7k lbs to the track regularly. Will this cure the reliability of my 6l80, or does it need the zip kit and transgo stuff as well?
I have a 2012 6L80 4x4 transmission in my 09 Jeep Wrangler (6.0 swap). The transmission supposedly had 31K on it when I installed it in 2016. It now has 120K miles. Sometimes, on a mildly quick acceleration, it will do a flare shift (my understanding... rev slightly between gears). The E38 for engine is running a Chervolet Express program and the transmission control module was programmed to match the E38 VIN by a reputable transmission shop. I thought of changing fluid and filter. I've been told Redline fluid may help due to different friction modifiers? Would a shift kit help? Any recommendations, short of a complete rebuild?
I would say start with pan drop. It's possible to have a valvebody or techm concern causing your issues also it's possible to be major internal. I say pull the pan inspect and base repair off of that..
Hi, great video series! I would like to ask the question, how difficult it is to install a Sonnax Zip Kit on Toyota's u760e valve body by DIY guy??? Thanks!!!
It's not bad to do at all make sure you pay attention to the second page also read the extra tech infor book that comes with it the two accumulators are directional make sure to follow instructions otherwise get after it.
Hello David! Late to the party here, I have a question about the Sonnax Zip Kit Clutch select springs. I put this kit in the 6L80 in my 2013 Escalade. The instructions said the Sonnax springs are an update for mid '10 and earlier 6L80's. It said later OEM springs are the same calibration as the Sonnax springs. So, I reused my OEM springs. I am pulling this transmission soon to install an upgraded torque converter and install the Sonnax ZIP kit parts in the pump. Should I put the Sonnax red springs in the clutch select valves? I am considering taking your recommendation of the TransGo 6L8 CS-TCC steel clutch select valve set. Thanks very much for your channel and these videos! I am an avid DIY for my vehicles, and your information is a very big help to me!
Hey Dave love ur videos very informative.....quick question that has nothing to do w video but in ur experience can u drop the transmission pan in a 2015 Silverado without dropping the exhaust...getting frustrated I was told I could but not going good
Were you able to? It won't come out with the trans bolted to the crossmember. It almost comes off, but hits either the valve body or techm in the back. It looks like there's enough room to get the filter in and out. However, I was thinking if you unbolt the transmount from the crossmember, there may be enough room created by jacking the tailhousing up. Sure wish they designed for serviceability...
Is it correct that if I rebuild and reuse my existing tehcm and install the zip kit, I do not have to reprogram anything and can just reinstall it and drive it? My converter left the party, pump housings pretty well scored, lots of magic metal dust in the pan. I'll be replacing the converter, pump, clutches and pistons (including the sonnax), and hopefully rebuilding the valve body and tehcm. What condition would necessitate replacing the valve body and/or tehcm?
Just an update - I got part numbers of all the stuff you use from your videos. The valve body parts looked really good, no wear at all so I reused it with a new separator plate. I replaced the techm yellow diaphraghm disks, installed a zip kit, sonnax billet 1234 piston, and the sonnax 456 clutch apply piston kit. Used a new bellhousing, and machined the pump cover. I put it back last weekend, it works beautufully. I knew exactly what to look for thanks to all of your videos, which is helpful because the instructions that come with the rebuild kits only cover the clutch packs themselves, not all the other little details. Thanks!
The sonnax zip kit is a valvebody recalibration kit I like to use both transgo clutch select valve kit and the sonnax zip kit. To fix it right sometimes ya gotta mix some parts

I'm installing a sonnax kit in my zf26 trans . This end plugs do the move in the bore ? Or are they a seal for internal pistons ?
Does 6L45-6L90-ZIP already include the 6L80E-LB1 ?

Once pans off if it's clean then need to pull the valvebody and check check balls

Not for the zip kit
Sonnax makes some good stuff, but when it comes to valve bodies, Trans-Go is a better choice.

It doesn't come with it comes separate. If you need a part number I can get you one.
