  • 4 Ways To Cap Square Tubing - 3 Weld Caps and NO Welding Required on One Cap.
    These are the four ways I cap square tube, the timber end cap plug I have used in my "Rolling Lumber Rack" video. There were 12 open square tube ends that needed a cap and this was the quickest and easiest way for me to do it, once painted you would not know it was not a metal cap. I would not use timber caps in anything structural, a metal end cap is much stronger for that purpose.
    Tools / Supplies, I often use are.

    when cutting flat
    1 bar keep your cut as close to the vice as posible this cuts down on viabration and makes your cutting disk last longer
    2 keep the grinder geerdrive away from the vice alowing for step 1

    Great video! Useful pointers for sealing a boat trailer I’m making. Some pour oil in before sealing I believe. Do you think that wood option would keep the water out if submerged?

    • @GavinClarkdiy
      @GavinClarkdiy  3 роки тому +1

      In the long term the answer is no, but it will keep it out as long as the paint you paint over it seals it in. Boat trailers get a tough life, put underwater then dragged out and left all day in the sun, If you weld a plate over the opening it would be much better. Hope that helps a bit

      @@GavinClarkdiy Friction welding is a pretty amazing thing to watch...steel spinning on steel, glowing redhot, melting then welded!
      I've always wondered if one could do this with a mag drill and suitable insulated between the jaws and the fastener (I have one - they are frigging strong and perhaps the only thing I have that could maybe do this...but its expensive, so I don't want to risk it). What about aluminium, wonder if that can be friction welded? Better look up friction welding on yt :)
