Matt, I don't even own a welder...yet! I have binge watched the entire Mongrel series you have posted. Very happy to see your attention to detail. I watch videos because I love the craftsmanship and skill you have but to also learn welding techniques. I watch many UA-cam car restoration videos for the same reason. Your videos on the Mongrel build are easily some of the best real world examples to model welding techniques after, along with why you are doing what you do as part of the build decisions you make. With that thought in mind, I humbly request when you weld in your videos, can you please share your preference for setup of equipment you choose to use, perhaps in a quick overview of your choice of selecting for wire thickness, wire speed, the welder you are using, and perhaps the nozzle cup size and type of tip, along with machine settings for Amps, etc. Thank you.
I've seen videos on the rounded corner done by someone in India wearing sandals and stick welding with car batteries. They never explained the mathematics of the layout. Now I have to get some stock and practice. Thank you.
Very informative with out hype now am going to have to singe watch all you. I am a 73 year old new welder. Your videos are like filling controlled edges in my brain. Thank you.
I learnt to weld in the 70s and I haven't picked up welder for 30 years so it is great to see somebody go through old school lessons so well, you should run courses for your local tech, your CV is on UA-cam.
Sir. I thank you! This was extremely informive and detailed! Love how you didnt go in using a thousand clamps. Not sayin anything against clamps. But through simple steps in techinques on where to start with minimum tools. Amazing work.
Man I really appreciate this post its extremely helpful for making strong coner joints especially the rounded corner which is ideal for gocart frames ect. Great video. You are a highly skilled craftsman.
Very interesting. Thanks. My Urchfab hoody is going on an adventure on Wednesday. I'm doing the Monte Carlo Rally Classique starting in Glasgow in a 1954 Daimler Conquest. My Urchfab hody will keep me warm as the heater is weak. ☺
Thanks for taking the time to make this video man. Well Executed Techniques. You earned my Sub. The last Style is "Cope,Coping,Coped" and is the Stongest of them all since theres no Continuous joint and more surface area welded. Best used when High Strength and limited space are in the factors.
I enjoy your welding tech's. I been at this a long time and there are many ways to do it . Love learning new ideas. Some maybe small but still cool all the same. Keep these coming. You are a master at this. Great video.
I just came across this video of yours, i liked the way you explain the details and how it happens. And you show how to do things the way it should be, and show how to do it right. I llove it and i learn from this. (I'm just still a newbee on welding and processes,) thanks for this video a learned a lot.
Some great tips Matt. If you have a longer piece of box you can cut the roll around shape half way along so youd make your 90 without have to add the other bit on the end. Brilliant channel mate. 👍🏻
Nice thanks. I'm fairly new to welding / fabricating. I am about to fabricate a knock down stand for a woodworking drum sander I built. I will be using 25 mm x 25 mm tube. This video gave me some good hints. I do have a welding miter clamp and a chop saw, so hopefully fitting it up won't be too difficult. Now if only my welding technique were better....
Great video, Matt! On suggestion for improvement: instead of measuring the length of the 45° insert and the 90° bend line, I suggest calculating it. 45° insert: multiply tube width by sqrt(2) which is approximately 1.4 bend line: multiply tube with bei pi/2 which is approximately 1.57
Hey Matt thank you for taking the time to make this video ... One way I found to make accurate measurements of odd shapes is a cloth tape measure like a dressmaker or Taylor uses ...when you have it you find all kinds of odd Applications that it works for Pete m
Superb tutorial. I got inspired by your tutorial that I am going to get a metal cutting mitre saw. I would not have done it any other way. Thanks for this great video!
One trick I started several years ago to get exact measurements on round tubes, circles, corners, etc that is down and dirty is to use a clothes designer/ makers measures tape. They come in metric and US and you can rap them around tubes or angles to get exact measurements on the fly, they work great.
Great video as your always are. On mitre cutting with an angle grinder I tend to use a 9 inch grinder that way I can cut my mitre in one go. Good for people like me who are less skilled!
There is a company (Instron) based in High Wycombe that produces material testing machines. Maybe they are willing to perform tests on your welded corners?
4:00-4:35 - I think between these timestamps, you were describing what I've heard others in the industry refer to as a "full penetration weld." I might have picked up the term from a Discovery Channel show where the camera crew was on a specialized ship that fabricated, welded & laid gas pipeline on to the seabed below. Thanks for the video. *_TRUST !!_*
I was insanely frustrated trying to do a corner weld today. Just wasn’t working. This really helped though. Didn’t realize I needed to bevel the inside corners in order to get the weld ground down flat.
Great work as usual, I did a welding coarse at Hertford College in the 80s, they never explained very much. I haven't touched a welder since, but the way you have shown how to do it it all makes sense. I wished I continued, as it's a very handy skill to have with regards to car repairs, thanks for these videos.
Thanks for the masterclass mate. Proof that I'll watch anything! Now show us how to weld a modern hatchback floorpan without setting the sound deadening or stone guard on fire!
If you do the rounded cut in the middle of a piece of box you can bend the whole thing out of one piece of tube, ... looks awesome when done correctly.....
I really liked the way you didn’t drag it out but were very exact in the instructions.

You're a professional genius, the most useful video I have seen. Especially when you are new to metal working. Thanks!
It’s a thing of beauty to watch someone so good at their job.
one of the most useful welding vids I've seen, thanks
You spared me writing this comment myself !
@@Dvirshe.........thankyou.... me too....
What DavRos said 👌🏻
Exactly my thoughts, too. Particularly like that you didn’t go off on tangents. Drives me crazy when a video is 50% or more B.S.
Its not welding this is fitting
Always good to learn from someone who obviously knows what they are doing. Thanks for sharing

I just discovered your channel and I feel like I just found a pot of gold! There’s so much valuable information and great content. Keep it up! 🤘🏼
I have never worked with steel, but now I am now a fabricator!
Thanks for the awesome content!

Watching you weld is mesmerising. Its so...... clean and how it should be done.
Thank You for the lesson. Always good to see how the professionals do it.
No professional would use an angle grinder without a guard . Absolutely lethal way to work

Awesome.
Hope someone takes a pic and sticks on multi media 😜
Ps a cool positive pic
🤞✌️
This is the most insightful tutorial I’ve seen. Thank you. You point out the not so obvious things that make a big difference.
This was a big help, making a new ramp door for my trailer from 25mm box section
Always appreciate the tutorials, especially from an ace. Truely epic finishing quality
Thanks so much bro from Tanzania I upgraded via your videos
Great video! No nonsense. I'm just learning to weld now and this was extremely helpful. Thanks!
This is the guy who will teach you to weld no fancy perforated table's just a old school welder no bullshit .class mate👌
Cheers Gareth
Absolute beginner here. Nice clear vid mate. Thank you. 👍🏻👊🏻

Great demonstration, clear, concise and easy to understand!
You defo attended metalwork at school then matt . nice work fella
Hello from Perth Western Australia, that was awesome. I really enjoy watching how a real tradesman welds frames up. Keep up the good work.👍
Best tutorial on UA-cam! Thank you brotha!
Thanks for the tips on how to make 4 ways to do a box corner section useful in hand rails and railings
Had this video in my watch later list for last couple of months. That is some lovely craftsmanship god I miss being in the workshop

Alas, now you understand the difference between a layman and a craftsman. 👍
I like how you do your videos and how you include grinding tips and show how to mark out with the 45degree square nice vid man
Great to see a professional doing such high quality work.
Nice mate. Like how you said about tack positioning to avoid warping. So many welders I’ve seen make that mistake. Good work man
i like the 45 and the rounded corner , looks great for industrial style furniture

I just love welding and this dude are all good at what they do with their hands
Great video! Can't believe I never sorted out that tape measure upside down over a curve trick before! Thanks!
What a fantastic fabrication tutorial video - wow Matt that was absolutely brilliant.

Perfect timing, will be doing exactly this on the weekend.

Tailor, not Elizabeth.

Amazing tips buddy, No wonder I keep messing up when I weld, thanks for sharing the knowledge!!!

why is this so satisfying to watch
Very useful tutorial , I take this as a beggining test after knowing how to use the welder , tqvm 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi welcome
Always interesting to watch Matt, looking forward to the next video.
Damn. Just damn. That’s Montanan for great teaching.

My brother , thanks very much I was struggling with that 90 degree angle using a grinder.but your content is very informative and clear.
Thanks a lot
Excellent tutorial, thank you Matt, I'm hoping that these ideas will stick! :-)
A strength test on each one would be interesting.
There is a company (Instron) based in High Wycombe that produces material testing machines. Maybe they are willing to perform tests on your welded corners?
I was looking for this comment. Yeah, which is strongest?
Great video bro and your welding and fabrication skills are top notch !
Excellent video.
Thank you.
The last one will be the strongest because you have 6 connecting sides instead of just 4.
Thanks for the great tips! I've been getting out my welder and practicing more since watching your builds.
Hi welcome
Such a great video for beginner welders
Great vid mate, cheers from Australia.
Sir, I thank you for your brill vid. So good to see an expert - and to learn from them is a bonus.
Excellent! Great watching a pro. The best!
Thanks for the tips. I've just used it on making a rounded 45 with stainless just with a smaller diameter curve.

Great video with great info, love the how to videos. Thanks for sharing Matt. Cheers
Nice sar
This is ideal timing, just about to start building a new bench in my workshop, literally just ordered the box section! Keep up the good work!
I like the rounded corner one. You could actually use just 1 big piece such that the rounded side is continuous, eliminating 1 weld.
Great video and advice thankyou. Keep up the great work and videos 👍
Professional explanation and editing. Really useful, thanks for your time.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Work clean work is inspiring, welldone. I agree with Amy.

Nice CAD template for the curve lol, getting my CAD template fix from here and project binky now!!
I like Pbad, pizza box aided design, frozen ones are best as the pizza is sealed inside and they are the cheapest :) .
Excellent video as always. Thanks Matt
Thank you awesome video Eric in Tulsa OK USA.
