- The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds have a unique clip-on design that doesn't block your ears and makes you look like you're wearing earrings. They may not be everyone's cup of tea -- and they are pricey -- but they're an excellent set of open buds for anyone looking for that style of earbud.

Im actually liking the design. A lot of earbuds always fall out when i run or just aren't comfortable
Try Shokz openfit. The best I have used ever. Peace
I like the design as well my only concern is how much improvement can be made to the sound aspect and how much the leaking audio can be heard from people closer than 6 feet away.
Same problem here and I actually consider buying one of the two athey have similar design and price, with some differences of the control technology
The Anker Soundcore AeroFit Fit Pro open ear Bluetooth earbuds come with a detachable neckband for a more secure fit during workout.
Design wise, Bose is going in the right direction. This could be the future of all upcoming earphone.
price wise, $300 is way too much.
True $299. When there is a holiday around Bose drops the price by $50 so $249. And when you sign up with new email Bose offers you $20 coupon. So you pay at the end $229. If it has multitasking between macbook & iphone and got active noise cancellation then it will be worth it otherwise...
They don’t even have ANC and apparently don’t even sound as good as the QC Ultras, which are $20 cheaper.
This is bose first take. But the design has been around for years
@@fadz5210they don’t have noise cancelling. They’re literally open earbuds. They’re meant to let the surrounding sound through
@@muktoonsepiphany9944show me another pair that look like these, i own a lot of open air earbuds and i haven't found one pair that look like this design.
I am enjoying the design - as someone with smaller ears that has not had success with any other earbud - these stay in my ears and are quite comfortable
Same! I love them. I have had the fruit branded ones and just haven’t worn them because they fall out, they hurt, just the worst. So happy with Bose. I am able to work out, listen to my own music, and use my tabata timer all without a lot of fuss.
I’ve got really tiny ears, and I’ve spent so much time/energy/money trying to find the right pair. I’ve been unsuccessful but based off your reviews I’m willing to give these a try.
I just ordered some, but I’m super excited. I have Eustachian tube dysfunction that causes severe pain with noise canceling earphones. I also get anxiety from now hearing my environment. These earbuds are meant for a specific person for sure.
Price is too high but love the idea of them
Agree
Huge Bose fan! Bought two pairs, one for gym and the other for driving, work & shopping. Thanks for the great review. I’m used to music in my ears, however these give me great sound without blasting my ears into space. The same Bose technology is there with great sound.
You rich rich 😂
Just ordered one pair
Samsung did an almost open ear design called the Buds live. The main reason I bought it and still use it is because my ears don't get clogged and stuffy like all other buds closed design. I can use them for hours comfortably and able to hear things around me.
Galaxy Buds Live aren't actually open ear. Same goes for regular AirPods.
These Bose are open ear.
I love the Buds Live. My ears can't tolerate buds that go in my ear canal.
These have been the best open earbuds.. I have purchased more than 6 pairs for myself and everybody I love!
I love my buds live.
Yup, I love the live buds for this reason also. I use the AirPods 3 now as an upgrade, probably will try out the Bose when the price drops in the future.
I’m absolutely thrilled with the performance of these open earbuds. I can see those that enjoy noise cancellation would not be as impressed but for my lifestyle these couldn’t be better. I have a pair of Beats Pro also but find myself consistently grabbing the open earbuds for most activities. The comfort level is unmatched and to be able to wear them with double piercings is amazing. I wear them for 5+ hours and never feel any discomfort. I’m a believer that you get what you pay for and these are worth every penny. I HIGHLY recommend!
I struggle to find earbuds due to my small ear non fit (too big) and are painful. I saw this design and I think it can work for me but I always like to review what others think. Your review helps me as I also have multiple ear piercings.
I don’t think the challenge of earphones is mainly about comfort, it’s about how you compact good quality noise cancelling headphones in a piece of earphones!! I have the latest Sony WF-1000XM5 earphones and I still feel that they didn’t get there. Development of earphones is still in progress…
It's definitely comfort. If they're not comfortable, why would I want to wear them for long periods?
I love when Carnoy gets his hands on something new like this. I can see the genuine eagerness to review these. I have the Bose frames gen 1 and 2 and Bose soundwear for a fairly active lifestyle, one for day and one for night, I was never a fan of bone conduction. These are very much purpose built, not for sound quality but for ensuring you can hear your surrounding. I’m surprised that there is no Spatial Audio or AR like in their other active lifestyle products. But I’m interested in these!
Immersive sound is Bose’s version of Spatial Audio and are present in these
I’m a Bose fanatic. I was looking at these today and found your review just posted. I do think I’ll hold off on these a little longer to see if there are upgrades soon. My issue with earbuds are allergies and I have a hard time finding ones that does not cause reaction. I hope these will solve that issue.
Allergies to what? Silicone tips? Rubber tips? Plastic like the standard AirPods?
@@PSYCHOV3N0M no idea what the actual issue is but It’s something in the plastic. My ears start itching then they will blister and then peel. Apple AirPods are the worst. I even changed to silicone and then to foam ear tip replacement but it’s something in the hard plastic. I didn’t have that issue with Bose original QC or the QC2
@@mhanshaw165I have the same issue! WOW! The apple airpods cause itching… I have the first version as I do not like the rubber in ear. But yea, they cause itching after a few minutes 😢 I have Bose on-ear. Really like them! Can’t find comfy in ear that won’t cause itching
@@mhanshaw165 Wow that's awful. I get itching and soreness but nothing on that level.
how about memory foam ? I use iem tin t2. it used memoryfoamkind of like 3m earplug.
Love his reviews. Direct and to the point.
Appreciate the support!
They should put a haptic driver in the barrel that responds to low frequencies. Would make them sound full range and maybe worth the price tag.
Soundcore sport x10 are my favorite but I'll try these .. I am a tech collector and I love my QC 45
Didn't like sound core x10,I sent them back, wayyyyyyyyy to small and fiddly
Innovative design ,about time ! ❤🎉 Great review 🎉
Great review, extremely helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for the review. I definitely need something due to my loud work area and the wifey calls
Can you guys do an open earbuds comparison video? I'd like to hear your guys' take between these, the Sony Link Buds, and Shokz - Openrun or Openfit (both) and any other open ear brands
As a person who wears hearing aids and is tired of taking them off to use my AirPods when I want better quality music/calls (yes I can do both with my hearing aids) I'm going to keep looking into these for a while before I spend $300 on these. But yea def interested.
Wait for Black Friday and they might drop to $200.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M yea I’m not rushing. I also want to wait for more reviews.
I had a similar reaction to Bridget’s when I learned of the price. Otherwise, I think these are pretty cool.
Being a former Bose fan (my last two products, the Earbuds 1 and then QuietComfort ultra, being hyper buggy and faulty), I'm excited yet I will wait for the third generation or so.
Do they tend to stick when you're doing some exercises where you need to place yourself horizontally, like benching or doing crunches for example?
Great detailed explanation. Thank you :) If it has multitasking between macbook & iphone and got active noise cancellation then it will be worth recommending it!
@CNET I usually switch between the Galaxy Buds Live and the Sony LinkBuds, do you think the Bose earbuds are step up from those open-ear-adjacent buds?
Thinking of picking these up as a mail carrier
I can see this being more comfortable than my air pod pros.
As a mother, I had been on the lookout for some earbuds that didn’t drown out noise around me, but I could still hear content very clearly. My child is constantly needing something, so these have made it soooo much easier to listen to both content and interact with my child.
Or how about you just care more about your child without zoning out because you're addicted to online content
have you tried bone conduction headphones?
I still can't get over the fact it looks those ear clips we put on animals to track. It's an interesting innovation and I like the open ear option
They are §229 right now
0:27 This clip on concept for the eardbud must be comfortable because I myself can't use the typical earbuds because it hurts my ears after prolong use. But this form factor appears to be more comfortable while still providing top sound quality.
I’ve really like the beats pros (with the earhooks), because the earbud doesn’t press into your ear canal like some earbuds, it more rests on the outside. I also liked them for the earhooks, because most other earbuds just won’t stay in my ears and fall out if I’m moving around. Unfortunately they stopped making the ones connected by a wire, and my last set finally died. I replaced them with the beats fit pro, which a have a bit more snug fit, but are still really comfortable, and very secure.
These Bose looks interesting though because I’ve been having issues with ear canal blockages from earwax buildup, and seems earbud use is associated with that.
I would be interested in a sound comparison to Shokz Open Ear Headphones/buds, especially with regards to bass. Nice review!
These sound better. I like the Shokz but these offer better clarity and a little more bass.
This is much better than shokz
I think this the direction we have to move forward to. Not isolating us from the society. Like the sony link buds too!
This is such an informative video and i really appreciated the call sample. I NEVER buy expensive earbuds - $30 walmart for me! But i really need something different and have been looking at jawbone technology. This is definitely what I'm looking for. I will probably wait until a firmware change that allows for easier bluetooth change.
Thanks for watching!
Great review. $300 hefty price and no wireless charging?
Please do a test while running on the road or on the treadmill! The design may suit runners well, as sweat would not be a big problem like in more intrusive models, maybe.
I did run with them. Very good for runners (very secure fit). Thanks for watching.
I love my Sony link bud open ear, and I might give this Bose one a try after price drops. Just a little too much right now. I actually stopped using all of my closed earbuds, my ears can’t deal with them after 10min of wearing them, even having NC off.
I was gifted a pair on Mother's Day. Personally, I love them. They are so comfortable and don't cause any ear discomfort, pain or itching. I can keep them on for much longer period of time.
Definitely interested in these for my small ears! Will wait until they come out with cuter colors though
These are very interesting. I love over ear headphones but they get sweaty and even slightly start to hurt my outer ear after wearing a long time. In ear headphones just suck for me. Always either loose and/or make my ear canal sore pretty quickly. Open ears of course won't sound nearly as good in the low end but that's ok for just casual listening while working, cooking, watching TV late at night etc.
So you have to wear both ear buds to raise and lower the volume?
Can the buds run independently of the other bud?
Wow looks great! Great job Bose. Will purchase ditectly.
I picked these up today. I can't tolerate earbuds in my ear canals. So far they're great except the price! Kind of a niche product but just what ove been wanting.
Are they loud enough when cutting lawn?
Still looking for ENC (not ANC) in order listeners only listen my voice through microphone (most people confuse ANC but that feature is for my ears.
Huawei already done the same a while ago with it FreeClip buds
“C-Bridge” design! Yes, definitely some similarities. Now that Bose has done them, we’ll see plenty more.
@@davidcarnoy961how come you're verified with 44 subscribers?
@@Parajulibkrm No idea. I don’t post videos on my personal account anyway.
They worked great ❤
How does it compare just to using an in-ear bud with passthrough?
The only buds with clear transparency as well as your voice remaining un-muffled are the airpods pro 2s.
you guys also gave this review the big budget treatment nice report
I have seen a similar design in Fox series called Fringe. It was a communication equipment in future
the blue phone case please! which one is it?
£300 here in the UK. Very expensive but....I ride mountain bikes most weekends and wear regular Earbuds. These would be great to hear the sound of the bike on the dirt as well as music. That would be the only thing that sell me on them.
I absolutely LOVE my Shokz bone conduction headphones. If these are significantly better, I could justify the price. However, Shokz is really amazing for less than half the price. I'm a fan of non in-ear options with situational awareness, which is important in today's crazy world 😅
they look great! Would love to check them out.
I want the quiet control 30 neck band back! updated one of my favorites from bose
How is this compared to the QC Ultra with ANC off?
Great review! I will definitely get these on sale!
Thanks for watching!
happy 2024 david, thanks for the review as always! best on the internet :)
Cheers and thanks for the support!
Do these amplify ambient sound? I have some hearing loss and don't wanna spend $5000 for hearing aids!
There are numerous clip on ear buds on Amazon alone. BUT, I doubt they match BOSE quality in both sound and construction. $300? Not sure.
Yes. Their designs and sound are pretty meh. But they are a lot cheaper than these Bose!!!
I have a thing for open air Bluetooth earbuds like the Sony link buds. This one will probably be my next one.
This was really informative. I would probably buy these earphones for you on a bike. I have a pair of inductive headphones that I have used in the past and those were very good but the battery life wasn’t exactly premium. Thank you.
Just bought them after watching this review. I prefer open buds because I ride a bike a lot and also like walking. These buds sound a bit better than the Shokz OpenFit. They also don't get in the way of glasses etc. And I really like the controls. As you said: they don't compromise. And because they use a button in a good location, you also won't accidentally activate controls (which is an issue with a lot of touch sensitive buds). I even used them while resting my head on a pillow. The buds are pretty comfortable and they haven't fallen out. I have more confidence in them staying put, compared to other sony and bose buds I own. But I think they will fall out easier than the Shokz OpenFit. Hope they will update the firmware to include multipairing. The one thing I don't like is the price. I did buy them, but I think they are overpriced.
How about audio quality?
@@albertoulloa22 you can get better audio quality with in ears or over ears for this price. But they sound good and better than the Shokz Openfit, Bose frames or that sony one wirh the hole. The sound is clear and you can hear some bass. For me the volume was loud enough. Even at a low volume setting, I could hear my music while riding my bike in a busy environment
I also tried that immersive audio, but that wasn't so special as the reviews made it seem
thank you, I think Ill wait for the sports version and a price discount, but they do seem like the best fitness earbuds without compromising too much on other aspects
Stereo speakers on your ears.. best way to describe 🎉
Reminds me of those cool ear “cuffs” characters used on the Fringe tv series as cell phones.
I like this due to sensitive ears... After using noise cancelling buds my ear canal starts hurting whereas these are very comfortable to my ears...
Does it have noise cancellation?
This look actually pretty cool. I so much prefer to not have the ear bud being in my actual ear. I have the Bose sunglasses and I love that I can hear them ok without it being shoved into my ear canal. Only thing I would be concerned with is how much sound leak there actually is. My wife complains if she can hear what I am listening to on the sunglasses. This price is a stumbling point but this is BOSE so yeah they are going to be expensive to overpriced. 🤷♂️ I am very intrigued by these. Thanks for the review.
Good cheap price to me, only $300 is good. I’ve ordered to try them. Let’s hope they sound good for Bose
I must admit that this highlights how good Shokz Openfit have been & are!! I hope these match up well with those Shokz Openfit!! Especially for a lot less $
It is for a small market but i still like that bose is making in ears for different purposes.
IM saving for mine now, hopefully i can get myself for xmas
if these were cheaper, I'd definitely try them out. I'm wearing in-ears for 3-4 hours a day and always worry about the potential impact on my hearing because at least 1-2 of those hours the music is on pretty loud 🕺🏾
Have u tried any earmuff-style headphones that don't have the headband?
I bought the same but when I make calls the receiver doesn't listen me 100%. Can everyone advise?
That battery hat looks amazing
I’m still using the other open hear buts ,but the only problem with that is the character…. All they had to do is to come up with different charging case
When can we expect a review of Sennheiser momentum true wireless 4?
I am a seafood processor in Alaska and I need something that stays put. Have little ears holes so I never found a set that stays in I run. The quite comfort 45 they work great but they are starting to go out
As someone with several cartilage piercings, I am limited to which buds will stay in my ears and be comfortable. These look very promising, but pricey!
Great review! I am actually looking at these because I have an allergy to AirPods. I think it’s a nickel allergy. I get a headache with regular over the ear headphones. I wear glasses so it’s uncomfortable. So with your review, even though they are crazy expensive I am giving them a try. With a 90 day money back guarantee I have nothing to lose to give them a try.
Thanks for watching. Let me know how it goes 😊
@@davidcarnoy961 I have had them for a week and using them daily. I love them, the sound is great and very comfortable. And best of all I’m not allergic to them. Glad to have found your review to give these a try☺️
What's the beat that starts @ 4:52?
I need these. I wish they had one with gold metal though
Can you compare this to the Huawei ones that you reviewed previously?
Ive reviewed one of those and there are so good
Wait ✋🏻 until Apple 🍎 copies the design and then sells it for $1,000. 😳
Stop it, it will sell for $899 and if you need a charging cable. $999
Well if the work with the operating system like they do now. They will sell
Sony have already tried this (WF-L900s) type of headphone. An “open” in-ear headphone. That was uncomfortable to wear and kept falling out, in my case. These seem to fit more comfortably but this is almost certainly a niche within a niche type of headphone market. Not many people want to hear their surroundings at the same time as listening to their music or podcast especially if the latter does not sound that good as the speaker is not actually in the ear canal itself.
The Sony buds are called "Linkbuds" and once you pick the correct hooks, they fit fine. They are my go to for Parkruns
Do you get the thumping sound while walking with these that you get with in ear buds?
No
@@davidcarnoy961 Thank you

I use bose headphones almost everyday. I make more than enough money to where i never had to complain about these costing a lot. They Great.
Cool for someone to come up with art skins to give them a cool look.
Okay, first of all i havent seen the video yet, just the thumbnail. And just based on the thumbnail, i know its a game changer. Why? Because i never had problems with in ear earbuds until last year. They would hurt my ears with excruciating PAIN, that i never felt before Some reason the in earbuds when i put in my ear would hit some nerve or twist it and cause horrible pain. And for all my life this never happened before. So i ended up spending thousands of dollars buy all the different brand in ear buds in hopes that one would not cause this problem. But they all caused this issue. So that all being said, the design of these ear buds is LITERALLY a game changer because NOW hopefully this design will FINALLY end the whole in ear excruciating pain problem that all the true in ear buds had caused me last year. Until these bose come out, i had to buy bose Quiet Comfort OVER the ear top of the line models to fix the ear problem. But now, i feel this new bose is EXACTLY what i need. Its like Bose read my mind and made these ear buds JUST for me. ✌️
Thank you so much!
Totally agree, once I see $250 I’ll pull the trigger.
But this a game changer for summer time desert trail running.
Those pesky rattlers are all around!!
ithinkit is good ifyou dont use noise canceling much, i would like to try
The design is spot on, but they still need some form of ANC and most importantly *decent call quality!!!* Why do so many buds have abysmal microphones?
If these were under $200 I'd probably pick them up. I love open earbuds/headphones so these are right up my alley.
At $300 I'm not buying a pair of earbuds I can't try out and listen to first, though...
I just finished rewatching Fringe. These almost look like the communication devices used in the "other side".
I love my Raycon 'Everyday' but my right ear gets fatigue really fast and it gets uncomfortable
Does anyone know if the boss software is still essentially spyware?
