This review surprised me because I didn't even know there was a trailer out for this. The fact that I own a comic book store and nobody mentioned it to me is really telling.
I think what hurt the character of Aquaman is that they transition to much of Jason to the character. Jason Momoa I really like him he is good. The Aquaman I use to compare is the one from JL(TV Show) and that guy was badass. More king than a hero, but it work.
He was a miscast to begin with. Its no surprise that we want him to play Lobo and he would fit the role like a glove. The first movie was constructed so that Jason could be believable as Arthur cant say how it is in the sequel coz I havent seen it but besides the first movie it was showing he doesnt suit Arthur. So much of the character was lost just so Momoa could play him.
If Momoa wants nothing to do with DC anymore after this, that’s understandable. However, like others who vouced for it, it’d be a missed opportunity to not cast him as Lobo. But I’m open to other actors handling the role as long as they fit the character’s description.
Idk, I don't think Momoa is that great. I mean, dude is getting paid millions and still couldn't commit to working out for the role. I'd rather have committed actors get the big roles.
Favourite movie, Man of Steel. I know most people hate it but after a rewatch, years later, I genuinely really liked it. It was a pretty decent Superman. Henry Cavill was a good Superman.
agreed, I loved it when it came out because it was a solo movie and seemed like the start of something good. Later movies could have been great had they taken their time instead of trying to copy MCU
The movie has a lot going on. It could have a better plot. Maybe Yahya's character could have discovered the black trident through research and maybe he could have entered Atlantis with the mission to kill Aquaman. The lost kingdom reminded me of Mordor and its people the disavowed fighters whose souls were trapped and Aragorn frees them after they serve him in battle in the Return of the King.

You know Marvel and DC are doing something wrong when Jeremy had more fun with a Mario and Transformers movie more than the vast majority of comic book movies this year.
Tbf the transformers movies were at one point the most fun movies to see in theaters. Age of extiniction and onwards is where everything completely nosedived.
@claytonmorrow1098yeah i wish i could have see those movies bit transformer this year was also great . My only conplain was that optimus prime was just too weak but maybe they really wanted to make him pacifist not some beheading everything freak 😂 but overall great movie except villian was not worth remembering .
Even with the Mario Movie and Rise of the Beasts having numerous flaws, I'd rather watch these a billion more times each than see any comic book movie this year again excluding Guardians 3.
I just got out of Aquaman 2 and I had a blast with my 3 boys. It was fun and didn’t take itself too serious. Kick back and relax plus Randal Parks is in it, ha ha love that guy.
@@jal.ajeera Yeah, totally agree. I like Jeremy in general, but I absolutely hate some of his reviews. He seemed to totally miss the point of this movie. Honestly, 90% of the shit he complained about, I don't think the average person noticed.
Favorite DCEU movie? The Suicide Squad. They did really good work with all of the characters introduced for that movie. Ratcatcher, Peacemaker, hell they even made Rick Flag someone that was more than the "I am soldier man" character that he was in the first movie.
I love how that movie was the only DCEU movie to feel like a comic book from the colours to wacky characters… comic books are goofy and it remembered that.
A movie that made me care about Ratcacher, a woman whose superpower is to literally summon rats, way more than Superman and Batman. That's probably the biggest "accomplishment" of the DCEU for me. It's also a good thing that, beside a couple of references, the movie perfectly stands alone on its own without the need of an extended universe, so i can just watch it again as a perfectly fine piece of entertainment and ignore the rest.
@BlueGuyTube - Superman and Batman is this universe was honestly two of the worst adaptions / interpretations played by two actors who probably understood them the most - yet had to go along with a story that was ultimately against everything the characters’ stood for. It was wild.
The Aquaman I have always imagined was essentially a water bender. He shouldn’t be powerless on land. Sort of like how Magneto broke out of that prison in X-Men 2.
WB kept meddling cos they were changing ownership and direction.. it sucks yeah - but unless legacy isn’t up to par with WB’s expectations- then YES he’s got a shit TON to worry about

I actually had a good time with this one. The final act was very weak but the first two were enjoyable. I'd deem it roughly equivalent to The Flash. It isnt a cinematic wonder, but it was fun
“It was not by chance that this struggle came to be, the blame falls squarely upon my shoulders for giving evil the chance it needed and therefore fulfilling an ancient prophecy” - Aquaman, probably
Here's to wishing a brighter future for the DCU and MCU because, let's be honest, 2023 wasn't the best year for either. Someday, we might see complete books and documentaries chronicling the entire tumultuous journey of the DCEU's 10-year saga.
I saw it last night and I enjoyed it 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️. Was it the best nooo but I liked the redemption of the brother and the fact they found some common ground. I thought Manta revenge was still driven by himself because his hardword is what help find the bad triton…and in the end he still never forgave Aquaman. I think an evil can work through u and u still drive the evil too.
To be fair, the studio heard you Amber Heard was removed as much as possible, she barely has lines and I think none with Aquaman They even cut down her "heroic moment" Altough I have to say, in order to please people, the movie was shredded and it is worse It was a lose/lose regardless
You do you boo. I truly doubt anyone was hanging their hat & planning their next rent with your ticket price in mind. You wanna avoid the movie because of an actor in it, fine. You wanna look past that & watch it, that's fine too. It literally only matters to you.
This is something that concerned me immensely when James Gunn announced the new DC slate. I think instead of committing to a partial reboot by keeping projects from the Zack Snyder era. They needed to fully commit to the reboot and start from 0. They probably had to rework the existing movies to fit the vision of a completely new DCEU direction, and it’s just very difficult to achieve this.
The whole 2023 slate has had a very 'dead on arrival' feel to it and it's not surprising they've all flopped so far. I don't feel that the messy+ public way Gunn's gone about it has helped either [such as offering Ben Affleck a directing job which Affleck said he had no interest in]. I agree they should have just said the old DCU is dead so not spending any more money on these and then start afresh [2025 is probably too early but he'll need to show results].
The problem is that everything post ss2 felt dead on arrival because the old guard was to damn stubborn to listen to what we actually wanted like they had multiple chances to Jumpstart this universe again but each time they completely said to the fans and audiences go fuck yourselves and imo they purposely released the worst versions of every movie from black adam going forward to kill the dceu
A Nagash reference?! Never would I have thought I'd hear a Warhammer Fantasy reference in a JJ review. Just goes to show you how wide spread WH is. And I love it!!
This could have been a movie of the story of a dedicated good King battling a villain and overcoming an evil plot. And saving his kingdom. Edit: carrying on where the previous movie left off, but with a more mature king (Jason Mamoa is now several years older after all). As he took on more responsibility and gained experience through conflicts.
I think a lot of people are just going to re-watch the first Aquaman and stay home for this. It does suck when a director's hands are tied because of all the problems that plagued this movie, nothing could save it at this point.
Nah the visuals looked pretty cool for the most part. I'm going to see it in theaters. But I'm also a big dc fan so I'd go see a DC film in theaters regardless lol
Yeah like why does Aquaman do polynesian war dances? Its just Momoa playing Momoa 😂 even his obsession with Guinness in this movie just felt like Momoa telling everyone how much he loves Guinness. And I love Guinness too but that took me out of the movie alright.
Jeremy ... don't change your presentation, at ALL! Love it.! Your animation reminds me of me ... lol..I won't be going to see this train (or should I say, submarine wreck) wreck. Thank you for a great video.
I disagree, it was a great movie. Unfortunately all the drama may have changed the true vision but I liked the brother bonding and redemption of Orm. The fact that the baby was taken from grandpa by Manta was devastating (feeling of it’s over) I means the stakes we’re getting pretty high for aqua man. His wife almost died then his dad, his son and the possibility of his brother turning on him also. It was good. Especially how they all came to rescue the baby at the end 👏🏽 They whooped ass for that baby
Man of Steel is still my favourite DCEU movie. I am looking forward to checking Aquaman 2 out, if only to see how bad it is compared to the first one, which was an unabashed big and dumb blockbuster entertaining superhero ride. Great review as always Jeremy.

I honestly didn't understand the whole 7th kingdom storyline. The first movie made us think that he visited the lost kingdom and then they had to swim through all those monsters that made me think those were mutated denizens from the lost kingdom, but then they get to this movie and the lost kingdom is in the arctic. Weird
3:45 YES!!! That scene was so dramatically out of the blue and the weird frame slow motion really took me out, because the tone of the movie was a full on action/comedy
Honestly, WB should have priortised marketing blue beetle this year, it was the dc film that was best received and had the least amount of drama surrounding it. Ik blue beetle is kinda unknown, but for that same reason, it needed more marketing to get the gp interested.
The big issue with 'Blue Beetle' was that it was intended for Streaming/TV, not the cinema [similar to the cancelled Batgirl film]. Coming so soon after the bomb of 'The Flash' didn't help it either, as did having Barbieheimer as competition. Maybe delaying it to a quite time next year [plenty of opportunities given the strikes have thinned out the schedule] and presented it as a 'stand alone' film rather than linking it to the DCU would have helped.
Why? Blue Beetle was marketed as a movie that speaks to the Latin American immigrant experience, not a superhero movie, and frankly, as a non-American, I couldn't care less about the Latin American immigrant experience. If I'm giving a theatre $20 I expect two hours of entertainment, not to be lectured by millionaire celebrities.
@@freman007 that was not about the immigrant experience but poor vs rich dude, anyways beacause it wasn't a white lead, nobody paid much attention but was way better and funnier than other dc movies currently.

Overall, I’m really hoping they don’t fck up the new DCU and give us seamlessly good projects that are well-written and well-executed.
I do think 2025 is a bit early for the 'new DCU' and it would be better to have some distance from the old stuff but I guess Gunn needs to produce results as quick as possible.
I feel like they shouldn't bother with a cinematic universe at all. The Batman and Joker movies showed us that standalone movies are their strongest bet. Also the PERFECT foil for current MCU oversaturation. Instead..... its DCEU 2.0. I guarantee general audiences will just be like "Huh???" And all the movies bomb.
@@RaymondSanders-f8c Respectfully disagree about the first Guardian being the best one. It’s good, but I thought the third one was his best Guardians movie.
@@alexpiperhalliwellHe was pretty cool as Aquaman tho.
I'm very confused. He's jacked, how is he not committed?

It deserved a trilogy but WB r too fucking stupid to be patient so they fucked it up.

Marvel and DC are dead in the water right now. From Comics all the way to the movies.
@tdowling2562Come over and see this ratio.

I think James Wan would make a good Constatine or Swamp Thing movie. That would be perfect for him to include more of his horror moments
I think Shane Meadows would be better for Constantine… Constantine stories are more character driven than horror
The Swamp Thing show he produced is really good.
Nah lol he can’t even do Aquaman justice so he can stick to horror
So Amber Heard's acting was better in a courtroom than an actual Hollywood Movie!?
Sounds legit.
Which is pretty shocking given how obviously fake her crying was in the court room.
Her acting on the court room was horse 💩
Favorite DCEU movie? The Suicide Squad. They did really good work with all of the characters introduced for that movie. Ratcatcher, Peacemaker, hell they even made Rick Flag someone that was more than the "I am soldier man" character that he was in the first movie.
I love how that movie was the only DCEU movie to feel like a comic book from the colours to wacky characters… comic books are goofy and it remembered that.
I liked the Enchantress the most... she was so good in that.
Yeah probably the best of the buch and that is saying volume about the overall quality...
Keep in mind, WB kept meddling. So much so, James Wan walked off set. Gunn has a lot to worry about with Superman Legacy.
When your head boss is David Zaslav you’re in for a bad time
All those people that worked with Wan left or were fired.
WB kept meddling cos they were changing ownership and direction.. it sucks yeah - but unless legacy isn’t up to par with WB’s expectations- then YES he’s got a shit TON to worry about

Gunn is a tool of the reset crowd. He ain’t here to save a thing
