Lots of players can play millions of notes, but Greg has got to also be one of the most entertaining guitarists on the planet.......and the special fluid with which he assembles those notes is ......just beyond ! way beyond .
greg is the epitome of "playing" the guitar....he's a great technician, but he plays with joy and a sense of humor. Anything that rocks me and makes me laugh at the same time is alright with me!
Greg is GREAT. A really humble guy. He knows that he is not in the "A list" of guitar gods. If he looked more like a rocker or dressed differently, then maybe. He's been at this for a long time and knows everyone. Yet, remains good-humored and humble. Long life to you good sir!
Well, he's not on A list coz he's definitely an S list if not R list! This guy literally, word per words, whatever that means, the best numero uno in da world!
What an amazing player! Love his style. Not a single dull moment during this epic performance! Very underrated and under appreciated virtuoso!!! Much respect to you GREG!!!
Who knows if this was even his band? He could have just been sitting in with this crew. Hired gun sort of thing, or end of show jam? Whichever the case, a lot of class on display.
I would love to see Greg Koch and Steve Vai jamming and doing some friendly guitar battle thingy .. since they are both fabulous and have this humorous touch I think it would be hilarious and awesome :)
I've seen so many videos of him playing this and I've always thought the same thing- "I've got time, he's older than me...." Guess what Az?!: He's killing it here at your age. No more excuses! Get to work!!!
Man, this brought the music back to life for me. I mean, this is stuff I've heard forever, known how to play forever, but this is like a wake up to the beauty of the music. What amazing playing.
I can't believe you guys are arguing ...CAN'T YOU SEE KOCH IS HAVING A BALL WITH THIS!.....sit back and enjoy this great guitarist!........................by the way Tommy Emmanuel does the same shtick in his concerts and the crowd LOVES it!
Greg combines a MASSIVE legacy ken, with a brutal populist 'IM SO DAMNED GOOD!" delivery, somehow coupled with that "i am SO hip and yet nothing-here--you-cant-do-if-you-WORK-at-it" approach... WHAT a treat delivery.... DAMN!!!!
And in case there is someone left who does not know this - that solo was cut together from a variety of different passes (Jimmy's not Gregs) Jimmy's a superlative producer.
I saw Greg do a demo for Fender, and he was just incredible. Did a cover of "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" that was smokin' His sense of humor is waht does it for me. He can play just about anything, but it's the cracks and jokes that do it (I highly recommend his instuctional videos). "Good clean fun"!!!!
If you really like his playing, then you need to check out all of his "wildwood Guitar" reviews....this guy is seriously unreal...his playing is AWESOME!!
Well I did just got my face melted into a puddle of pure extacy! For the first tyme ever seeing Greg play was more than a treat. He was jammin' with Southbound at Shank Hall!! They played nothing but almost every ABB song!! They played the entire Brothers & Sisters album.I got to meet him and I am now a fan forever!!!
Great post. Greg is a pure guitar player. And he oozes talent. So much that he can have fun and make you left while playing perfection. One of my favorites. And he's a great showman.
My all round favourite player. Almost no genre is beyond him. The only player I know who can do comedy on the guitar. Plus he has been married for ever and has 4 kids as well. Great take on the led zep stuff.
I remember 5years ago when listening greg first time kicking distortion in to that tele. Man it took me only few weeks to recieve one from england. Happy ever after it.
I have just found this guy on you tube by chance whilst looking for something else & am struggling to think of anyone as good. if you think of him as a clown or not you cant help but be amazed at his talent & speed
He's such a great guitarplayer. I've met Greg Koch himself. And i got a sign. on my strat's head. He's a very nice, and funny guy. I hope i'm going to meet him again. Rasmus Volden R.A.V.
He's using a Fender B-bender Tele. There's a buncha springs and levers from the strap button to the b string, and wen he yanks on the strap, the b string is stretched.
I commented about a year ago and had to come back and listen again- UNREAL- Is any guitar player more entertaining? If you watch/listen to this and dont crack a big smile when he goes thru his Zeppelin montage, YOU ARE DEAD INSIDE
Don't forget "Heartbreaker" at 2:17..another Zep "Oh by the way" thrown in there to tickle your ears...This guy shreds Danny Gatton and is closer to Junior Brown and SRV and Jimmy Reed...can you feel that telecasters wood ringing??? Most awesome performance!!
Guy shows more versatility in 10 minutes than some "greats" show in thier entire life. Why he isn't more well known is a mystery to me. Guy has lots of talent and skill and style to boot.
Not only is Greg's guitar playing a little bit like he sold his soul to the devil, haha...that drummer is also simply fabulous. Bass player too. Imagine having to follow Greg live. Wow!
What can you say about Greg.. He's got 11 fingers on each hand and what looks like a great sense of humour. Never met him, but he's got legend written all over him.
Yes I did but after looking up the word definition for " reverential " makes me totally agree with you. I also think Chris Duarte is also a very inspiring guitarist too.
Greg makes me wish I could turn my guitar back into a tree.
🤣🤣🤣 I actually laughed out loud when I read this comment
I feel you man, me too
@@bunnys1980 Ha Ha Ha !!
Amen
Too funny!
Still BY FAR the sickest guitar display in all of UA-cam land.
You mean in the world?🥂
That's got to be one of the best tele sounds I have ever heard...
Yep totally agree
Lots of players can play millions of notes, but Greg has got to also be one of the most entertaining guitarists on the planet.......and the special fluid with which he assembles those notes is ......just beyond ! way beyond .
Greg is a true master, no doubt about it. He and Scotty Anderson are wizzards in their own right.
greg is the epitome of "playing" the guitar....he's a great technician, but he plays with joy and a sense of humor. Anything that rocks me and makes me laugh at the same time is alright with me!
couldn't agree more.
Absolutely true.
Can you dig it?
This guy is unique, like his style of playing guitar and with chicken picking, bells and whistles.
He just made me a fan, rock on.
wow...... same
Imagine a band with Greg Koch on guitar, Les Claypool on bass, and Steve Moore on drums. How insanely entertaining would that be?!
MY GOD, I WISH THAT HAPPEN!
Grab yourself a can of pork soda!
That would be pure gold
Greg makes me want to either give up, or practice more...depends on my mood. Ha ha.
From moching zep to straight killing it
exactly.. mostly its the practice option, right?
@juna wood very well said my friend! of course- hang in there and get better and believe in change
Greg Koch is one of the greatest living guitarists in The world
@@jeffmartin9753 he could stand toe to toe with ANY guitarist living or dead
Every time is hear a diff version of this song, I just have to smile non stop. Greg is like Frank Zappa, just pure joy to listen to no matter he does.
Ohhhhh my face is hurting from smiling. Mr Koch, you are truly amazing and thank you for your existence.
What an amazing player! Love his style. Not a single dull moment during this epic performance! Very underrated and under appreciated virtuoso!!! Much respect to you GREG!!!
I love seeing musicians like this who can be PHENOMENAL performers but also silly and down to earth.
I wasn't digging it at first but I stuck with it... and then watched it ten more times.
New fan here.
same here
Who knows if this was even his band? He could have just been sitting in with this crew. Hired gun sort of thing, or end of show jam?
Whichever the case, a lot of class on display.
Love these old shots of youthful Greg. What an Amazing talent 👏Dynamics anyone?
I always loved Greg's columns in guitar magazines. He's as hysterical in print as he is on stage.
I've never laughed so much hearing guitar playing!! awesome !
I mean... could't think that it could be!
Holy crap....where have I been all these years? I've never heard of this guy....he is insane! I've got to check out more of his playing right now!
Its like a mixed clone of Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton was sent into the future.. in a parallel universe.. on crack.
Blues Harp Yep that's pretty much it.
This video never gets old :-) I think this was one of the earliest videos I've seen of Greg and it still floors me every time I see it.
I would love to see Greg Koch and Steve Vai jamming and doing some friendly guitar battle thingy .. since they are both fabulous and have this humorous touch I think it would be hilarious and awesome :)
Les Claypool and Greg Koch just jamming would be so entertaining
I dunno, I like Vai too much to put him up against that 😆
I saw Greg Koch live last year. His playing was incredible, and he has such a relaxed and humorous stage vibe. Pretty awesome stuff.
I've seen so many videos of him playing this and I've always thought the same thing- "I've got time, he's older than me...."
Guess what Az?!: He's killing it here at your age. No more excuses! Get to work!!!
I like the way he adds the Heartbraker riff in. One of my faveourite guitarsts.
Met Greg in person. Nicest guy you could ever meet. Frightening guitar player.
i can't stop watching this video!how can i get bored with a great guitar playing like that? greg koch is one of the best. One of my favourite.

This guy is my new god. Amazing. Blown away!
the guitar he's playing is the fender custom shop Greg Koch signature model, only available at Cream City Music, located just outside milwaukee.
Interesting factoid: The Stairway to Heaven solo was recorded on a tele not a les paul as you might suspect from Page.
And in case there is someone left who does not know this - that solo was cut together from a variety of different passes (Jimmy's not Gregs) Jimmy's a superlative producer.
Yep. That whole first album was pretty much all on Tele IIRC
nice! good to know, man
Barnyard Coral could have been the one Jeff Beck gave him
I saw Greg do a demo for Fender, and he was just incredible. Did a cover of "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" that was smokin'
His sense of humor is waht does it for me. He can play just about anything, but it's the cracks and jokes that do it (I highly recommend his instuctional videos). "Good clean fun"!!!!
One of the few (in not only) gear promotion musicians that is fun to watch, entertaining, AND can play. Very refreshing. Love this guy
This is mind-blowing, the command Greg has of the guitar, best dynamics. Best Zep cover ever.
he is like les claypool but on guitar
exactly
He is like the Nigel Tufnel of quality footwear.
If you really like his playing, then you need to check out all of his "wildwood Guitar" reviews....this guy is seriously unreal...his playing is AWESOME!!
Jon Parker I do not recommend doing that. Because it cost me $12,000 so far Doing exactly what you said. Lol
Greg brother ... amazing .... you are mad ...but the good kind of mad.... love it
Greg has such a unique style. Only guitarist I have ever seen play heavy metal chicken pickin'!! That guy can do anything on the guitar.
Greg is absolutely from another planet. He is incomparable. He seems like he's a hilarious guy to hang out with too!
Well I did just got my face melted into a puddle of pure extacy! For the first tyme ever seeing Greg play was more than a treat. He was jammin' with Southbound at Shank Hall!! No shredder could ever get close to what Greg is doing ... there is so much FUN in his playing. Wow.
Great post. Greg is a pure guitar player. And he oozes talent. So much that he can have fun and make you left while playing perfection. One of my favorites. And he's a great showman.
I'm still waiting on him to make a single "Rock Out With Your Koch Out"
I just love him. He has way too much talent. and hes put the hours in. His SRV lessons on DVD are brilliant.
I'd like to hear him and Jeff Beck have a guitar duel to this song!
Bravo Greg from France. You've got fans !!
always impresses me...and what amazing versatility from a tele........
whats awesome is that he starts out playing rediculus chicken pickin then pretty much plays all Page licks... awesome tribute go koch!
Amazing !!!!this guy is a freak ,and man can he play.
My all round favourite player. Almost no genre is beyond him. The only player I know who can do comedy on the guitar. Plus he has been married for ever and has 4 kids as well. Great take on the led zep stuff.
Just.....love this guy, so cool! Can do amazing things with a Tele! Technically one of the very best, then add all the feel! Perfect!!
I remember 5years ago when listening greg first time kicking distortion in to that tele. Man it took me only few weeks to recieve one from england. Happy ever after it.
From 3:20 on is pure genius . .
Quotes and riffs jumping off! Especially the Nugent.
The drummer was so happy when he kicked off the Nugent riff
i met him today at willis music, i bet you didn't know he's 6 foot 7!!!! this is a big guy. makes a tele look little
Just saw him tonite in Seal Beach Calif with son...............go baby!
There is great playing there is talent and then there is Greg Koch. This is some fine guitar playing!
I have just found this guy on you tube by chance whilst looking for something else & am struggling to think of anyone as good. if you think of him as a clown or not you cant help but be amazed at his talent & speed
I honestly can't recall the last time I had this much fun watching someone play! This guy's something else!
Just superb... Can't say much more, Quantum fingers, they are everywhere at the same time...

You sir are MASSIVELY talented!!
LOVE listening to you.
He's using a Fender B-bender Tele. There's a buncha springs and levers from the strap button to the b string, and wen he yanks on the strap, the b string is stretched.
Nugent Zeppelin combo deluxe special by Greg and company! Love it!!
I commented about a year ago and had to come back and listen again- UNREAL- Is any guitar player more entertaining? If you watch/listen to this and dont crack a big smile when he goes thru his Zeppelin montage, YOU ARE DEAD INSIDE
3:33 totally stole that move. Thank you Greg.
2:16 - Led Zeppelin heartbreaker. I love it. And later the solo. lol
Incredible guitar sound...
Wonderful...
I've only recently heard about Greg. He's definitely surpassed the hype. Incredible guitar player! that "Stairway" rendition? Good lord!!! :)
Nugent licks. Awesome.
Just playing stranglehold in the middle for no reason hahah
Stunning guitar craft!

Check out his guitar demo's on Wildwood guitars, sight. Such a good player and always a kick in the pants to watch.
My respect for Greg! I love his guitar reviews! Outstanding player!
I have no words. He is a master!!!!
Yes I did but after looking up the word definition for " reverential " makes me totally agree with you.
I also think Chris Duarte is also a very inspiring guitarist too.
Haha this guy always cracks me up, what a talented guy and total character
Technique, smarts and humor.
Can't go wrong with that combo.
Shit, this guy is my new favorite guitar player. The right balance of kick ass chops and tone and doesn't take himself too seriously.
