Some old timer Harley Riders told me about bike covers 1) Get one without a bike brand name on it. That way they have no idea what is under the cover. 2) Make the cover dirty and unattractive with some black over-sprayed paint and duct tape on it. Thieves will think it a crap bike because you have not invested in a good new cover. 3) Get a cover a bit bigger than you need. Then the rims and tires are covered so then again they have no idea what is under the cover. Plus they cannot figure out what type of bike is under the cover by the profile. As they said, people do not covet what they cannot see.
Thought about that a couple of times when i saw covered bikes. When i who knows a lot about bikes to the point that i never have to ask anyone "what bike is this?" I can tell you 90% of the time what bike hides under the cover just by seeing a part of the bike like the wheels (size, width, etc), the final drive (chain, belt, shaft), brakes, the swingarm or the lower part of the forks and the axle mount. Plus you can always tell what type of bike it is by the overall shape. At least i can tell 100% if that bike is worth enough to steal it. So make sure to cover that up good

He has a few videos of Kryptonite locks and they hold up well. If it takes him over 30 seconds to pick it's a lock worth looking into since he is very skilled at what he does.
I agree with the cover as #1 security. 25yrs in NYC agrees. Had bikes stolen from right next to mine but they were uncovered. If you want to keep it you cant flaunt it. Stay humble.
Tip: Get two Oxford Boss disc locks - one for the front wheel and one for the rear wheel, make it twice as hard to steal and make the thief spend twice the amount of time to steal the bike - time matters.
Loving all the videos man, always informative and providing me with quality content. Massive thanks for all the tips and products you showcase that have helped me. Thanks Ryan!
Hey man I love your channel! I have one critic though: whenever you review gear, sometimes you just dismiss the safety aspects of it. And for me, safety is the most important factor. IE: I was watching a video of you reviewing a pair of gloves, that were only leather, almost useless if you fall at a decent speed. I don't know if others agree, but it would be great if in the following videos you clearly commented on the safety level of each gear. I'm a new biker so I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thanks!
This was very helpful, I'm always so scared that someone steal my Zero :( Even having it a garage 90% I still get scared. As always, great video FortNine.

@K A Mine is fine. Perhaps there is a difference between Japanese Suzuki's and American versions. I live in Asia and have no problems with mine. I do also own a Yamaha SZR and really like that one too. I like the SZR for when my wife wants to go riding with me. Riding on the GSXr hurts her butt on longer rides as it has a larger and softer seat.
there are also bike alarms like in cars which starts siren when the bike is moves. i've one installed in my motorcycle. it starts sounding with a slight movement
They are great. If I am just going into a shop for a paper its great being able to just take out the keys and wonder into the shop with out a care in the world. And the sound of the alarm setting itself 10 seconds later makes sure every thieving bastard knows its protected. I still carry a disc lock for those times I am away for longer.
Great video. Regarding the chain - Go with a PEWAG square link security chain (I think it called the 3012 or the VKK-12, depends on the region) Expansive but they are the best against cutters.
a cover and an alarm has been much better for me than any lock. it's rigged so if the cover is tampered with the alarm screams and wakes up everyone on the street. my keys are the only thing that will shut it up. people just run off. cost about 50 quid all in
Unfortunately, with an alarm, nobody responds to them... except for, if in close proximity, the owner. Intelligent thieves know this, and if they have big enough cahunas, will continue to thieve away...
People in London don't run off, they will have two to three dudes with machetes standing guard. Even the Police are defenseless, as they only have sticks as defense. Your best bet is to say you think they have a gun and hope the police shoot them.
My bike was stolen overnight 6ft from my bedroom window with the alarmed Oxford disc lock on. Fairly new batteries too. I'll never know know how. (Also had 2nd disc lock and was chained to some railings)
Is there anything to cover the ignition key hole. Cause someone tried to steal my bike using a key and broke the key inside ending up costing me $400 to replace the cylinder.
Good evening ⚠️ I am in the welding metallurgy and I grew up with grinders of all categories and my advice is to buy a disc lock according to the thickness of your disc, which means leaving no gap between the disc and the lock then it is best to close it in one of the deepest holes because with a grinder it is very easy to cut even stainless steel unless there is no space for the grinder disc to go between the two it will make the cut a bit difficult which means a few more minutes
The most effective anti theft device for my motorcycle (when it is parked at home) is my Glock 19 (9mm). I live 25 kilometres out of town on 50 acres....surrounded by crown land. Shoot....shovel....and shut up.
I've read two comments about Hell's Angels in Oakland "multiple big guys with weapons" and thieves in England stealing your bike right in front of you. Commonality: Good guys can't carry. We need to go back to it being totally okay to shoot a bike (horse) thief. Does everyone a favor and deters others.
The way things are going in several UK cities, I think it's only a matter of time before some toe-rag steals a bike from the wrong person and is found strung upsidedown from a lamppost by his bollocks.
But it's just as easy for them to shoot you if you live in the middle of nowhere. That's the problem with living outside of cities, there is no social protection and criminals can do as they please.
@@juststeve5542 It's been done, it doesn't stop them. It only stops the little scrotes from stealing from that one owner, or their friends. It doesn't always deter all bike thieves either, you have to show some extreme violence towards them to really scare them off. The second time a guy (it was the same guy as the first and third times) tried to steal my bike he managed to run away, however he was missing teeth (what did he expect when he tried to steal a bike with the 16 stone owner wearing body armour stood next to it), but he tried again, unfortunately for him I was cutting a zip tie off of my bike, and he only ran away with my knife (I swear I didn't stab him, he must have lodged the knife in his own shoulder after he ran away, honest officer). Apparently UK legal carry knives can be dangerous to thieves (who knew).
Yes I actually have 12 CCTV camera's setup and hired staff to monitor my bike 24/7 with 15 minute push notifications to my phone giving me GPS location, bike health status and thermal temperature readings. Small price to pay for piece of mind.
Well that removes any possibilities of commuting to work or school for me atleast. I don't know too many that can spend their workday looking at their motorcycle or at school and since it's my only way of transportation the best security is plain simple insurancy.

Grinders! Everything you showed can be defeated in less than 1 minute! Living in London I have experienced this personally way too often! Baseball bat to chase off the little shits has been my best anti-theft device... And the only bike that I have had stolen was picked up and dumped in the back of a van!
Yeah but you need a cordless angle grinder, it makes a lot of noise and sparks, it takes some time... Any lock can be opened with the right tool, its about deterring, making it harder for thieves to steal your bike.
@@iamadness69 Unfortunately the bastards roll up in packs. 2 angle grinders is all they need. One to cut free the bike, one to threaten good samaritans with.

If you're out and about try chaining the bike to an imovable object like a lamp post if you must go through a wheel iuse the rear wheel and go through the swinging arm frame too! Or just chain the bike through the frame: in London some bike spaces have a fence on the edge of the sidewalk with a low mounted rail to chain the bike rear wheel ( see above) to it

Getting back to your bike and you can faintly hear something coming from behind the bike: "This is the lock picking lawyer... A click on 1, nothing on 2, 3 is set."

Finally, someone who understands security. If they can make it, someone can break it. But if it's more inconvenient for them it makes it less enticing so they move on.
Just a heads up the Oxford Boss link in the description actually links to some Dunlop Sportmaxs :)
Good eyes. Thanks!
Here is the link to Oxford.

I just made my bike look like its a police bike. No ones even trying to get near it.
James Bowie that’s why I put a sticker on my bike tank that says “property of xxxxx police department.”
Yeah but every other rider is going to kick it to the ground every opportunity they get.
Very very clever! Love that idea
isn't that illegal lol
tinwoods well it did 12 times so far.
Send the locks to lockpicking lawyer for testing
He has a few videos of Kryptonite locks and they hold up well. If it takes him over 30 seconds to pick it's a lock worth looking into since he is very skilled at what he does.
He said the Oxford is a disk detainer Lock which normal people can't pick
Forever locks are number one.
The lock sets off an alarm every time its moved, that would make picking almost impossible without alerting poeple.
I was hoping someone would mention LPL.
I agree with the cover as #1 security. 25yrs in NYC agrees. Had bikes stolen from right next to mine but they were uncovered. If you want to keep it you cant flaunt it. Stay humble.
I just place Claymore mines around my bike. Never had a single problem ;)
Great writing, smooth delivery, and professional editing with excellent presented information. Great video
man, you sure make the best videos
these are the best motorcycle videos on UA-cam, quality and analysis is top
Hey, I'm in America, what does that centimeter equal in quarts.
BigBlue Glide Best chuckle I've had today 🤣
About a cubic ounce.
Or twice the difference between a metric bushel and standard Babylonian fathom.
Hope that helps.
🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣 really?
Lol
Can you remove the battery and store it separately? That would deter joyriders at least.
Lol...
It is so silent that its silentness is worrying
Owned an Oxford boss - the number of false positive activations made me get rid of it within 4 months. Now using an Abus 8077 for over a year without any problems.
Just put a Suzuki logo on the bike, no one will touch it.
Fuck u lol
Damn bro but GSXR 1000s are sexy...
You mean Honda
My gsxr said to dislike this comment.
@K A Mine is fine. Perhaps there is a difference between Japanese Suzuki's and American versions. I live in Asia and have no problems with mine. I do also own a Yamaha SZR and really like that one too. I like the SZR for when my wife wants to go riding with me. Riding on the GSXr hurts her butt on longer rides as it has a larger and softer seat.
concise and to the point. no filler, and hilarious.
there are also bike alarms like in cars which starts siren when the bike is moves. i've one installed in my motorcycle. it starts sounding with a slight movement
Titanium I put one in my dual sport after some thieves nearly made off with it a couple years back. Great investment to protect my investment
They are great. If I am just going into a shop for a paper its great being able to just take out the keys and wonder into the shop with out a care in the world. And the sound of the alarm setting itself 10 seconds later makes sure every thieving bastard knows its protected. I still carry a disc lock for those times I am away for longer.
yes very handy. and the thing is you just cannot touch the bike. it sounds even if a cat around in my house tries to climb on my bike.
Titanium what's the name of the alarm you are talking about ?
What's your alarm called?
Great video.
Regarding the chain - Go with a PEWAG square link security chain (I think it called the 3012 or the VKK-12, depends on the region)
Expansive but they are the best against cutters.
a cover and an alarm has been much better for me than any lock. it's rigged so if the cover is tampered with the alarm screams and wakes up everyone on the street. my keys are the only thing that will shut it up. people just run off. cost about 50 quid all in
HeadbangerFacePalm
It's rigged how exactly?
How do you stop strong wind setting it off?
Unfortunately, with an alarm, nobody responds to them... except for, if in close proximity, the owner. Intelligent thieves know this, and if they have big enough cahunas, will continue to thieve away...
People in London don't run off, they will have two to three dudes with machetes standing guard. Even the Police are defenseless, as they only have sticks as defense. Your best bet is to say you think they have a gun and hope the police shoot them.
The UK 5 minute theft test!
There'll be many a chuckle from here, over the pond at that one!
My bike was stolen overnight 6ft from my bedroom window with the alarmed Oxford disc lock on. Fairly new batteries too.
I'll never know know how.
(Also had 2nd disc lock and was chained to some railings)
No chain? No cover? Yeah, I can see why.
@@firefox3249 It had a chain too, and cover, and 2 separate alarms.
@@oliverfox402 Yikes! It sucks, but there's always some way a clever scumbag can use to get around your security systems or exploit their weaknesses.
Thanks Ryan! this is exactly the info I was looking for. Would be great to see a 2019 update video if there's anything new you would recommend.
Is there anything to cover the ignition key hole. Cause someone tried to steal my bike using a key and broke the key inside ending up costing me $400 to replace the cylinder.
$400? Wow no pliers? Dam
Luka Dragunov Cheers!
Apparently UK legal carry knives can be dangerous to thieves (who knew).
as someone who lives in the UK that oxford joke was amazing
Best way to prevent motorcycle theft is your eyes, I personally never leave my bike out of sight.
Canadian Rider Do you sleep next to your bike or do you sleep with your eyes open and a have cctv hooked up to your room or something?
Yes I actually have 12 CCTV camera's setup and hired staff to monitor my bike 24/7 with 15 minute push notifications to my phone giving me GPS location, bike health status and thermal temperature readings. Small price to pay for piece of mind.
Even when you sleep?
Ah well that settles it then.
Well that removes any possibilities of commuting to work or school for me atleast. I don't know too many that can spend their workday looking at their motorcycle or at school and since it's my only way of transportation the best security is plain simple insurancy.
Confidently gave this the thumbs up before watching. Didn't disappoint as usual.
Can Ryan F9 Do another video on Bike Security and Locks now that this one is almost 6 years old ?
I watch these when I don’t even need the product. This channel is so sick.
Oxford Boss Lock link is for a Dunlop Tire ;)
Fixed. Thanks!
You should do a video on waverunner theft prevention…. So corrosion and rust would need to be evaluated. Great videos and super informative
Is this mr beans Canadian son
John Martin haha thats what i was going to say but first checked if anyone comented on it already
Hahaha yes. I can't believe I didn't see it til your comment.
Hey Mr beans has a master degree in electrical engineering. That's a legitimate degree so his kid is going to be smart
Yes it is...does that matter? He's the most courteous motorcyclist ever and always provides top notch content
actually, atkinson is real petrol head, so that ' actually not that insulting, as it seems at first glance.. www.hotcars.com/cars-from-mr-beans-garage-facts-about-his-surprisingly-lavish-collection/
"you can get a five minute theft test by leaving a bike outside for six minutes"
as a brit, that was PAINFULLY accurate. i've spent more on replacing "damaged" bike locks than i have on bikes.
you forgot to mention the best theft deterrent of all.....buy a Vstrom!! I keed I keed! ;)
2017 or after V-Strom. God they're ugly!
Thanks for the review brother. Love your personality. Never change for anyone but yourself. Excellent attitude. This video was also enlightening. Stay safe.
@@Fordnan yup, there are many videos about that, it's a shame
too bad y'all don't have guns...
cindy But then the bike thieves would have them, as well as any one else who wanted to rob people. Newsflash cindy, keep your guns over there - we don’t want them or your gun crime.
This guy is slick. A pleasure to watch and learn.
Updated video of this must be overdue.
the way you guys presented this video was perfect. humour where it needed to be and info placed efficiently. although I'm not currently interested in ADV bikes this definitely had me curious. well done as usual.
Post a video on where to hide the GPS tracking device !
Well that just completely defeats the purpose.... Unless your the thief lol
ANYWHERE YOU want.
So you could steal the bike?
5 minute theft test in Oxford! Gold there mate.
1 dislike is a bike thief
Jeffrey Cheng 11 now 😳
It's now 265 dislikes.
@@mattsimonds477 Probably all from the UK, too.
well, that is how a presentation should be done, always. thank you for this superb upload fortnine!
Almax chains only. Forget all oxford baby chains.
for home use my garage / shed is down the garden i have a shed alarm a handy-thing i use then is a baby monitor one in the shed other in the house . if anyone is in the garage the shed the alarm goes off and YOU HEAR IT in the house baby monitor my Daughter had one i could use runs off mains or battery. testing this system out it works a treat. outlay was a few £ for the shed alarm
I chained my bike to an easily offended pitbull
Also did this
If you're out and about try chaining the bike to an imovable object like a lamp post if you must go through a wheel iuse the rear wheel and go through the swinging arm frame too! Or just chain the bike through the frame: in London some bike spaces have a fence on the edge of the sidewalk with a low mounted rail to chain the bike rear wheel ( see above) to it
The one time I didn't put the alarm on running into mcds, came out and there was a drunk guy on it LOL
Excellent video as always! Maybe we can get a 2020 update on anti-theft devices/systems?! Cheers!
i avoid theft by riding worthless junk, 82 HONDA cm250c and 2013 clevland heist. easy to steal? yes....worth the hassle? HELLLLL NAW!!!! the honda dosnt even have rotors for disc locks! xD
Rockabilly Rambler lmao your doing the right thing
They will take it to ride around and steal better bikes or use it for mugging people on the streets.
I love the quality of all the videos that you produced. Thanks!
Unfortunately, motorcycle theft here in the UK is on the rise!
I wonder where they will take the stolen bike from the small island nation..
@@Dominus_Potatus strip it and sell it for parts I've had it done to me this year
well done video. I don't really need any, as I don't leave my bike and my garage is pretty secure...but you brought a lot of professionalism to the video.
need an update for 2019 please :)
Working my way through your videos. They are so good.
Getting back to your bike and you can faintly hear something coming from behind the bike: "This is the lock picking lawyer... A click on 1, nothing on 2, 3 is set."
you arent joking about bike theft in the UK. 60 a day pinched from London. Shocking number dont bother locking their pride and joys
i had 2 almax locks an alarmed disc lock and an alarm on mine and they still stole it
Christian Vere I feel your pain. My ride was nicked - not even a prestige bike. A knackered Fazer 600! With my new bike I went full securtard!!
However, don't forget, that in London you can find a dozen scooters on every street corner and you can easily get away with a Transit van full of them within 15 minutes.
Christian Vere --> Chains, Locks and ugly 350 lb. wives in Yoga pants are merely a 'Theft Deterrent', if someone wants it bad enough, they'll Take It... ✔
I worked with a guy who had a new flash Harley Davidson, it had a sensor in the seat that set off an alarm if someone sat on it without inserting the key. It was more to scare off the kids that kept sitting on it rather than anti theft.
may seem odd but, when i stay overnight at a hotel i insist on a 1st floor room, tie fishing line to my bike and string it inside. Attached to the other end is a bell... the bike moves, so do I...
just sayin...
A.K.A 971155
Hell...
With a first-floor room, just bring the damn bike INSIDE!

Wont fit.... 2000 Indian Chief, beach bars... you can see it on my channel if you like, check it out...

Just don't forget to thread on the silencer.....
As someone is walked past and walks into the line...LOL Insurance with a cheap deductible, mine is $100 steal it I'll have the excuse to buy a new bike, plus with accessory coverage I'm good to go. I've parked in some Ghettos and never had an issue. Do bikes get stolen, sure but if you pick your places and where you park you are good, At nicer Hotels I have had the owner or manager tell me to park at the front door as that is where the camera is plus the employee is in sight of the bike/s.
Genius👍👍👍👍
Almax Chains- check them out, I recon they're the toughest out there.
Great vid, the problem with trackers is knowing where to put them so they stay hidden as many bikes get stripped down and parts sold off after they're stolen and taken for a joy ride....
ua-cam.com/video/99xIWNCWbW4/v-deo.html This is the video about bike covers Ryan forgot to link. Saved you a few seconds.
Added to the description! Thanks!
damnn looking back at the recommendations and the style has changed but the character of the channel stayed! finally getting a bigger bike than a 125 with my A2 licence, and I've been watching here and there since I got it 5 years ago!
The best lock of them all called: INSURANCE :)
And the most expensive...
You got to have it anyways so it's a cost that is already there.
Will you offer me an insurance plan that will get my meticulously-customized, one-of-a-kind bike back instead of just refunding a new bargain-bin stock one when it is stolen?
I mean, private investigators aren't cheap.
Pfft...
You know.. as a veteran whose his bike was stolen twice in 4 months, I can say the insurance while helps, only cover around 60% of your bike.
It is Indonesian insurance, btw
You are my favourite motorcycle youtuber
You should test the locks with files and hammers and lockpicks and make it a series
WOW!!!! Thank you, for this Great demo/review/recommendation video! I NEED a few, if not all of those items!! Any deterrent is better than NONE!....
damn i read it as "Best Motocycle Socks" ..
I’m getting back in the saddle after two years. Had my klr650 stolen out of my driveway. I’m so dam excited. Gonna pick up he new gen and the biggest lock I can find
