I don't. The '60s was actually a very sad decade as thousands of gay men were dying of AIDS in their prime in that decade. I was on the front lines as a hospital-based social worker; it was a nightmare. The music was indeed fabulous (some of it, not all of it).But I can relate to your comment as I wish the '70s back so much, not the '80s.
This is the greatest Hi NRG song ever written. It's all about the major to minor chord sequence in that wonderful verse (G - Cm) Gorgeous. Love every version for different reasons. the rawhide mix of this is possibly the campest thing I've ever heard!
Originally recorded by Yvonne Elliman & a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1979. The song has never managed to break the UK Top 40 with both Hazel & Liza Minnelli's versions just missing out
T. E. Burgos of course I can have fun without drugs! This is going back to the 80s I'm not a drug addict and I've never taken any other drugs in my life. Haven't we all done things in our youth? I'm not mother Teresa but I'm not an angel either and certainly don't need total strangers judging me for things that happened 35 years ago thank you very much.
@@MrRicky1967 Not "judging"; I asked a question. One of my very best friends always used poppers, even though he claimed to never have used drugs. Poppers are liquid drugs. I am just trying to understand why the use of poppers is such a common ocurrence among gay men (especially during sex!) Is that not a dangerous thing to do? Also, not using drugs =/= being an angel or a saint. It just means that you have never used drugs.
Only 2 month later after this release Liza Minelli came out with the same song (by PetShopBoys) and Hazell had no chance with this version. So sad. This version from Hazell is much better. But the name "Lize Minelli" was like a rocket to push her version up to the top of the pops
i don't know which version of top of the pops this was shown on as usually if it didn't enter the top 40 they were not shown on the uk top of the pops. Hazell's version i prefer also
I suspect Hazell's version failed to cut through commercially here in the states because at the time of its release there were loads of Hi-NRG records being released and it probably got lost in the competition Liza's version is quite "un-Liza-like" in that she sounds more pop-dance than like the rather theatrical singer that is her trademark. (For the traditional Liza on that album you have to hear "I Want You Now".) I prefer Liza and the Pet Shop Boys version of this great song, but Hazell's version is excellent as well. I mostly associate Hazell with "Searching" and her version of "If You Could Read My Mind". I thought she was a black singer at the time, but only recently learned she was an English songbird. She's wonderful and yes, she should've been bigger in the USA but she was big with DJs and dancers in the discos in that era.
I have to disagree strongly. Yvonne’s may be the original but she didn’t sound like she had any concept of the internal conflict that the words convey.
Tony Cowdrill I can't help think that people read too much into a song and it's lyrics. It's all about whether you like the rhythm and whether you can dance to it. Just enjoy it fir what it is.
@@MrRicky1967 I agree entirely with you . I always decide on the basis of the melody, the vocals, the tempo and other such considerations . The lyrics are important of course but lyrics alone do not make a song !

No matter when I hear 80's, my heart bleeds ... I wish the 80's back so much ❤❤❤
Fantastic music, I worked the big night clubs then🥰💯👌👍

The memories of being in the club dancing with a bottle of poppers , amazing.

Aunque sea una versión, me sigue volviendo loco esta canción cantada por Hazell Dean con el toque SAW después de tantos años.

This should have been a huge hit for her.
Shoula been a HUGE hit for Yvonne Elliman too.
Just enjoy it
The dancers are excellent!!!
Top song.
Amazing!
Ich mag ihre warme Stimme 💋
Should be rerelease for this Xmas holiday season ..
Good cover...
good version, but LOVE the original!
Wow what a figure she had !!!

PWL - which is short for... ?
Pete Waterman Ltd. That was the record company from one of the three producers Mike Stock/Matt Aitken/Pete Waterman.
She looks amazing in this video still don't understand Y this didn't go top ten?
What a wonderful song ! Liza Minnelli's version is the best but Hazell does a damn good version of it too .

Nice version ....but Ivonne Elliman's version is unbeatable. It's all about the voice and emotion.

After
great version although although i prefur Liza version more
😍 top
But Yvonne Elliman is The First Lady, everytime!
I fully agrree with you ! Headr the Rams Horn remix ? I still have it on viynl
Liza is Liza.
QUE RECUERDOS TAN BELLOS UNA EPOCA INOLVIDABLE
Loved this and Liza's version but didn't like the original much compared to the others
this song is better for Hazel dean's voice but liza's is to soft and to quivering for this kind of song
Still prefer Lisa minelli ❤️❤️❤️
Liza Minnelli covered it as well ... with more feeling
I like Viola Wills & Yvonne Elliman's versions better.
She looks like an aristocrat.

tut tut tut! xD
What a cheesy version of this song nothing like liza minnellis
You should try the Rams Horn remix ! Yvonne Elliman is great !
Liza’s version is much better
Yvonne owns it, but I love Hazel and Liza!
