  • There are things you need to play ukulele besides just the ukulele. You can save yourself a lot of money and trouble by purchasing bundled items with your ukulele and also purchase ukuleles with strap buttons already installed. Strap buttons, strap, gig bag, tuner, capo, and Kazoo! are a few things I talk about.
Here are two ukuleles that come with everything you absolutely have to have, as well as being very, very nice ukes!

I like gig bags or hardcases that have a shoulder strap. Capos are great. A chromatic tuner rounds out the accessories list for me. I should probably count my tablet, since it's always with my uke for sheet music. That was a MAJOR convenience upgrade over printed sheets stuck in binders lol. It also lets me play Yousician with my uke, which is just plain fun.

One day my iPad may replace my sheet music, but I seem to be too busy to learn how to use it!! Thanks, friend, for sharing your favorite accessories!!😊😊

A fantastic and cheap padded ukulele case is available from Horse for around 10 dollars! I also have the colorful one you showed off, but if having a grey bag with the word Horse on it doesn't bother you, its much cheaper and very sturdy. 😊

I like Horse ukuleles and gig bag. I didn't know the gig bags were sold separately. 😊😊

I paid $25 to have a second strap button installed on my Flight Supernatural. :O I got that Irin Walnut Tenor for cheap that I mentioned, and it did not have the strap buttons pictured in the ad...so I decided to bite the bullet and install my own. (The uke cost the same as installing one button, after all! If I wrecked it, not too big a loss.) Did it this morning and it went great! Just drill a little hole the right size in the right place and screw in the button. Then I did my Uma Concert Pineapple as well. I was a little hesitant about that, my favorite uke, but I had left it outside the gig bag or a few days and one of the cats had decided to chew the head a bit...so it wasn't like it was in pristine condition any more, anyway. Anyhow, that went well, too. I imagine it's possible to destroy a ukulele by accident, or mess it up a little by putting the hole in not quite the right place, but as long as there is a block on the end you're drilling into, it should be okay. Maybe practice on a uke or two that is not precious to you.

You've taken a big step!! Super!! It would seem to me, and always has, that the neck should split when you screw a long screw into it (and they provide longer screws than are necessary, in my opinion). But uke makers are smart enough to choose wood that won't split!! This is a wonderful thing to know in advance. People should certainly practice on ukes that are expendable. I have also perfected a technique that lessens the worry and screwing. I use a push pin to make a deep hole in the uke before I start the screw. I don't use a drill at all. Plenty of videos on my channel showing how. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

@@richdavis4007 Heh, that seems like a good way to do it as well. But I think I'm more comfy making the hole with a drill. And I only find an excuse to use my power drill about once every three years.
