10:04 - Holy s***! The underside of that seconds hand is abysmal and for $10,000 I'd expect a seconds hand that is finished perfectly and then makes me coffee in the morning.
@@BarkandJack yes it's crazy, people would loose there minds if Rolex tried to palm off watches at that price with shoddy workmanship. The sort of people in general who buy Hublot watches are the super rich, they must wake up in the morning and look at there lives and go "there's something missing 🤔 from my everything"....... good sense walks out the door and they go on the hunt for a Hublot, and after that......the collection of Hublot's happen. By that point there's no helping them.
Wellllll I think he’s talking about the general public here, not enthusiasts, to be fair. And the explorer is just the most well-liked Rolex among enthusiasts who either prefer an under-the-radar look or just can’t afford something like a GMT Master-II lol.
Not fair at all: another commenter mentioned the Explorer being an “under the radar” piece - very true. It is certainly not one of the INSANELY popular watches like the Submariners or Daytonas that everyone gravitates toward. But there are two other things to consider: 1) an awful lot of watch collecting “snobs” do have an open disdain for Rolex (not an older or established Swiss house but a “British” brand born in 1905); and 2) Adrian recently sold his high-demand No-Date Sub, opting instead for a not-so “mainstream” Tudor Black Bay (which some might argue is the poor man’s Sub) on the basis of build quality, style and other principles.
Funny one of the last shots on that Big Bang shows the reflection of the backside of the seconds hand..so luxurious they can't even finish or clean the backside of the seconds hand which reflects off the polished minute or hour hand. Love your channel, thank you for keeping at it!
Gotta be honest here... the biggest braggers, show offs and the most detestable tools I've met in the watch world were Rolex enthusiasts. Hublot lovers don't even come close 😂🤣
Yeah nowadays its the Pateks, RMs and Rolexes.. all in steel of course.. the gold peeps are lame.. hehe jk.. but about a decade ago, it was the skinny ppl with huge offshores and hublots
@@rfn I don't really think that's the reason... Rolex doesn't really stand out much. The average person thinks a Rolex looks like a million other watches. It's only when you wear something that has a unique case or dial that people notice a watch on you. Rolex is about as vanilla as you can get.
I'm not a fan of Hublot either, but to say it's hated because of being shown off or overpriced is a bit hypocritical considering plenty of people buy Rolex and AP Royal Oaks to flex. AP charging $20k for a stainless steel watch with a three hand movement and date is moronic too, but people happily pay through the noise for the status. Rolex charges $8100 for a stainless steel Submariner with a basic three hand movement and an ugly undecorated movement, but no one bats an eye. They also charge an extra grand for just adding a date to your Submariner which is incredibly moronic. Luxury watches in general are overpriced and to hate on another brand doing it's own thing is petty and immature. Watch snobs are distasteful. Just let other people enough what they want.
AMEN 20 for the AP and 28K for the Nautilus are totally moronoic. Most of the cost in any swiss product comes from the labor a skilled worker here gets around 6000 to 7000 CHF a month a bit over $7200 but that still doesn't make any sense for the Nautilus that isn't really better finished to cost 8k more. And if you couldn't sell the AP and Nautiluses for more than you get them nobody would buy them just like Hublots. They are better watches but still not worth the money.
I agree. Unless for the material used, nearly all watches are over priced, but they can be because most people buy they to show off, like women and their handbags. Every heard a women justify spending thousands of pounds on a bag made from leather?
What are you talking about have you ever seen a Rolex movement? To say it’s undecorated its either your being disingenuous or you’ve never seen a Rolex movement before. Rolex does a phenomenal job decorating and adjusting their movements and put huge amounts of money into research and development of their in house made technology that powers and makes these movements accurate and robust. You can’t even compare the two company’s their not in the same league. Rolex isn’t overpriced but Hublot is. Rolex is an investment that actually makes you money when you sell, Hublot you will take a huge loss.
You can actually buy one, walk into a store off the street hand over the recommended retail price and walk out with one. They don't laugh in their customers faces and explain you have to 'be someone' to buy one of these or put-on people on a fictional waitlist. All the marketing aside, that makes them less pretentious to me. People paying 10,000 for a used 5,000 watch because of fake scarcity or swishing their wrists around begging people to enquire so they remark how it was worth the wait and effort shouldn't really critique people who walk around with a hublot with the price tag still on it. They''re both grade A snobs.
I agree. For awhile i channeled my ignorant inner watch snob and sneered at these, but then i had to admit i love the bold styling. and the people who choose them are yeah, picking something flashy and expensive to put on their wrist, but for every person that actually has heard of hublot, 20+ or more know rolex, so this is more of a personal choice that shows taste. they could go the easy route and flash a rolex for status, but they like this. And so do i.
Totally agree, the first thing I noticed was the screws were NOT aligned. "Triggered" double that because they are on the face and then double it again after seeing the price...
I really thought that Richard Mille was even a more hated brand than Hublot itself, but I see that both brands share the same problem of overpricing and that price not being justified by their quality.
Richard Mille is a marketing genius though. Makes essentially plastic watches with less waterproofing and strength, let alone accuracy, than most 50 dollar seikos. Puts anywhere from 250k-1million price tag on them, gives some away to some celebs, dumb rappers and basketball players to market for him...and boom, you have a "luxury" brand. Crap quality at high end price, marketed to dumb people. Its like the modern Louis Vuitton bag. Lesser quality than in their past. Cheap material thats practically canvas with spray rubber, marketed as "leather", that practically falls apart if you set it on floor, in the sun, or get it wet. But they switched from actual quality, to marketing just the old LV name to the rapper community. People who think "expensive" is quality and just want to post pictures on their instagram with something "expensive" to shine. .
@@JesusPerez-iw3ey RM look like toys and their prices are unjustified. But they at least, make an effort to create some unique looking movements and they are supposedly very "innovative" in regards to their shock resistance. I have no idea if these claims are warranted or not, but hublot seems like an absolute scam in comparison. With RM you're at least paying for something that had a shred of ingenuity involved. Those hublot watches looked like wish pieces.
@Clay1404 well if you're playing tennis why are you even wearing a watch? It doesn't really serve any practical purpose other than potentially slow you down or annoy you. You won't need a chronograph or a time keeping device on a tennis track. They don't look look at all. They look like toys. The movements are nice, I appreciate those. The watch cases are very large bulky and look like they're props from the fantastic 4. Unlike you I've never worn an RM so I can't speak to any of those things.
@Clay1404 Yes the skeleton movements are very nice. I just feel like, when you make retail watches in the range of 80-500K (i believe they are), having their primary benefit be something that really doesn't make much sense anyway, to actually use the watch while doing sports - it's a bit dumb. Imagine wearing your 200K watch playing football or tennis. It doesn't make any sense. It would just get in your way, let alone be subject to undue wear with an item that's more expensive than most apartments. It quite literally is *the most* useless piece of technology in watchmaking. That's not to say that an AP or Patek or rolex isn't (because of their pricing in particular) but they're a far cry from the likes of RM and actually do serve the function of being discreet time keeping devices - that also happen to, in pateks case be better finished. All mechanical watches are essentially useless from a practical standpoint, but RM are just *the most* useless ones. Is my opinion. For my money, i would enjoy a fine nomos watch, a BB58 or a GS. All very competitively priced and all excessively accurate and well put together. They provide plenty satisfaction in mechanical curiosity and material finishing, all at 5% the price of an RM. And that's not to discredit your point, off course it's nice to be light and wearable. That's my number one focus. But plenty of 2-5K watches are impressively thin and light.
@@JesusPerez-iw3ey some People buy RMs, because they know there are Partys hosted by RM where you need to have one to enter. They buy the watches because they know they can connect with people who have money and maybe make some deals. In that perspective its an great investment, as a watch itself i don’t think so.
@@glostergloster6945 Hah, almost every mainstream watch brand, not just a Rolex to be honest... I have a Moser Pioneer Green Fumé- generally flies under the commercial radar...
I used to feel this way, but after adding several luxury watches to my collection I realized that saying, "a watch enthusiast doesn't see price as a feature" is simply a marketing scheme used by the industry to justify inflating watch prices. The Stainless Steel Audemars Piguet was hated for the same reason when it was first released. People were asking, "who would pay so much for a steel watch?"
I say the same. RO and nautilus are absolutely not worth thier price, not even a fraction, I mean a ML Aikon is lesser in quality, but for 2000 usd it makes a lot of sense.
You cannot say Royal Oak is overpriced. That watch created an entirely new segment. Nautilus is it’s copycat by its creator. Then Bvlgari edition, etc etc lots of iterations till it finally comes to Hublot 🤢 where you simply wanna vomit
The royal oak was never"hated" l was in the business when the royal oak was presented at basel...we thougth: crazy 2980.00 sfr for a steelwatch. To remeber a rolex day date was below 1000.00 sfr.a omega consyation 800.00 But it was an instant hit! We had waitinglistes for over 100 royal oaks within 10 days after basel fair!
Well, the watch prices will continue to skyrocket because it's an effective money laundering vehicle. You can smuggle tons of money globally right on your wrist and nobody even notices.
I think you sort of nailed it. Watch enthusiasts are used to seeing watches that don’t suit their personal style, and they’re used to seeing watches that are not priced appropriately. But the sin of Hublot for enthusiasts seems to be that they are trying to be flashy and deluxe and elite, but that’s just a thin marketing veneer over a substandard product.
The no attention to details and still adding a 10k pricetag is what makes it rediculous. For example look at the screws on the fusion. There all in different angles. Now compare them to an AP Royal oak, all perfectly in order to form a circle.
Hublots pretty ass but I don’t really consider that attention to detail thats just a design choice from them, they don’t need to copy a royal oak its not hard to center screws into a circle and most luxury watches details are on a micro scale.
I bought a classic fusion, King gold & titanium as my first BIG watch purchase (granted I was early 20's at the time). I went by the saying, that your first big watch purchase should be something "you" like, not an investment, just a watch you love and enjoy. And it was and still is big time. I love it and I'm glad I got it. I understand the criticisms of Hublot but I adore the design, personally, and luckily paid cash so I got a very decent chunk off the sticker price anyway (and no tax ... ;) ) A note on your criticisms of the bolts not lining up though... I could be wrong, but I remember reading on forums that they are not allowed to line the bolts up like an Audemars because Audemars had trademarked that look against Hublot, as they were first to the design idea. So instead, Hublot have to have sporadic bolt angles. Also worth mentioning, I believe the Audy doesn't actually have screws, they are just nuts stuck into place and aren't actually holding the case together. Whereas Hublot actually uses Screws holding the bezel to the case. I believe that's correct but don't quote me on it. Either way, great video mate, really enjoyed it. It's good to see the criticisms, but hey I still love mine just the same. You earned a sub!
Afaik bolts are usually tightened to a certain torque or something like torque x and half a turn more. So a bolt's end position might look random. But in such an exposed position they look all over the place. In this case I'd choose bolts that have more rotational symmetries or check with my lawyer if I can align them in a different pattern.
i felt like i should hate the whole, "ooh, shiny, lookit lookit i can spend money on a flashy watch," and for awhile i was able to keep the sneer on my face, but really I have to admit I love the bold design, and yeah, the only person i've met wearing a hublot was definitely a flex the status guy (he told me how much it costs, i think,) but you have to give it to them that at least they picked something other than a Rolex. Everyone knows that Rolex means you have money, but not so many know hublot. Which no doubt is why he told me how much it costs, which I already knew.)
It's overpriced, but so is Rolex. It's just that Rolex holds its value so it doesn't matter. Can you honestly tell me the Submariner is priced fairly relative to it's materials? And what about the Royal Oak? It's the same argument people use to slag TAG Heuer, yes there are watches just as good for half the price, but they don't have the 'brand value', that costs a lot of money to achieve - sponsoring F1 teams, football clubs and leagues... hence 'watch enthusiasts' feel these brands are overpriced and look down on them, whilst ignoring other overpriced brands (Panerai for example).
Hmm, Hublot targets more niche market (net famer, grey money) than Rolex. So I would say it’s ok if you know your target audience. If you don’t, Rolex makes sure you always get noticed and respected.
@ navarrolevel7 That’s why design matters. Every time I saw someone trying to showing off his stainless steel black dial sub, I laughed. To an untrained eye (99% of population), a black ss sub never sparkle any reaction, while a green or blue sub does, especially on a yellow gold bracelet. If you have some money to burn and have no idea what to buy, just buy a flashy Rolex with a gold bracelet. Brutal but simply works.
@@uropy totally agreed. I got the black sub, nobody cares. I got a two tone bluesy one gets lots of comments and compliments. A blue bezel blue dial Davosa gets lots of compliments. I actually don’t love the black sub, it’s so boring without any color.
The people who were targeted by Hublot are now targeted by Richard Mille. RM makes a much better watch, but not enough to justify the extra zero (and all the extra bullshit).
@@Jabber-ig3iw When they were owned by Ford, what happened was they started mixing design teams and engineers. Basically, Aston Martin’s V12 is just two Ford Duratec V6s placed end to end. @RA CW Riiight...because Rolex their heritage is so rich right. Rolex was definitely pumped with innovation before the 1970. Like the Daytona (does Valjoux ring you any bells because it should) or the pre-1530 calibers. Or before incorporating Aegler to justify "in-house movements". Give it a rest. I hate people bashing on Hublot while parroting the same excuse of a praise about Rolex. Both Rolex and Hublot are on the same page and this star shining sentence of yours: " Hublot is a pretentious brand for pretentious people. " Can exactly be said about Rolex.

Just because they’re not in-house doesn’t mean they are cheap. If you can tell me the difference between putting an ETA movement in a Hublot and Rolex having incorporated an entire production site under company ownership to do the exact same thing except claiming now that it’s “in-house”, I’ll give you a point. You tend to forget that Rolex still mass produces certain watch models like the date-just and the submariner(date). Almost everything Rolex claims to be the first, have innovated or achieved were already done by previous watchmakers by sometimes even preceding decades. Or that there is always a caveat. Great video - love your level headed content. …. But you’ve got to be joking 09:15 that the watch community don’t like to show off baller lifestyle. Count the photos in your media stream and see how many are talking about why they love the intricacies of the watch. Now count how many are posting their watch next to their super car badge or keys. Or overpriced leather goods. Not high quality hand made artisanal goods- lvmh tat. Hublot is a whipping boy for many who simply want to be part of the ‘I know what’s up crowd’.
"Now count how many are posting their watch next to their super car badge or keys". Mate, these people are exactly the type that Hublot is targeting and these are the type of people that is going to buy a Hublot.
This would be a correct comment if stated 5~10 years ago. Now, AP, Patek, Rolex, RMs are the ones that are usually shown next to supercars in Instagram
the watch community LOVES to humble brag. Hubolt is just the bragging, without the humble. There are more recognizable and more expensive watches to humble-brag with so that leaves the brand in an awkward position. Maybe adding diamonds would help for branding. Hublot, the Invicta of the rich people
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that the price of a Hublot is one of it’s main features. They’re for people who aren’t really into watches necessarily but they’re flush with cash and want something expensive. Your closing comment “selling an overpriced product and pushing a branding that isn’t in line with watch enthusiasts” is something that could be levelled at a couple of the big players in watches though I think.
Not dissimilar from Rolex in some respects. While it obviously has a huge following among watch fans, it's generally the go to brand for non watch people who want to show they have money.
I would argue it's precisely for the watch enthusiast - I.e the person who doesn't mind their watch not holding value because they derive enjoyment from their hobby It's very easy to say you like a sports rolex knowing that it effectively costs you nothing to own. Hublot owners appreciate the modern design and materials and are willing to pay for it is all.
Although not a great brand with timeless horological significance, I think the hate towards the brand is more of a FOMO situation rather than actual hate. It’s just easy to diss on Hublot even if you’re not sure exactly why.
This. If you would ask the „watch guys“ on UA-cam (hating on Hublot because of ETA movements in some of there watches) to name the name of the movement in their watches, 98% of them could not even tell it. Because they are just hopping on the hate train but do not care for movements at all.
@@firellio070 I still don't know what sort of a game is it. You mean like when you go to a nudist beach and you watch naked ladies, whilst ejaculating on your mates calves?

Then sold it for 4.5k GBP and bought a Black Bay 58 for 2.3k brand new. Great experience all round. Now hoping to add Snowflak/skyflake to next.
Well done getting rid of this thing exchanging it with arguably the best watch under 5K! And the Snowflake is a masterpiece. Hope you already got it by now.
I actually love that classic fusion ultra thin; looks great, unique and a good all rounder. Wouldn't buy new but they depreciate fast. Also the normal classic fusion is only 5K GBP so a very different playing field.
For over a year I have passed by a premium watch store and admired a wide variety of high end watches. Because I was window shopping I had an unlimited budget and decided my dream watch was the Hublot. Never heard of it before. Never seen an ad for it. I think part of why I like it was I perceived it as being premium and because it was not a Breitling or Rolex that was a plus as well. So for some reason I did a search for Hublot watches at midnight and the very first video I find is this one about Hublot being hated. It all kind of funny to me. I had presumed the price would be about what it is.
when I went to Malaysia, Hublot was really building an entire expo at a mall plaza, Pavillion mall Kuala Lumpur if I remember correctly, bragging about their special edition watch for FIFA world cup. I believe their marketing is very loud and aggressive in some parts of the country. that is when I think Hublot as a brand always spends so much in marketing but none in the watch itself. Just a fancy "fashion watch".
@@danokeeffe848 nothing wrong with the watch, it is just not getting as much value as you spend. that is the point of this video. If any people liked it they just buy it without hesitation and ignore other people opinion. that is why Hublot is still standing today.
@@danokeeffe848 longer explanation is = combined with aggressive marketing, they could really sell. Lets say Hublot marketing team can approach 100k people a day, they sell 100 watch, it means their effective rate is 1:1000, while other watch maybe rolex, only need to approach 10k people a day, sell 100 also. the effective rate of rolex is 1:100. Well it means hublot sell the same watch as rolex, people buy because of aggressive marketing, not in the quality of the watch itself. (Disclaimer, it is just an example as I am pointing out in the video)
"If something is hot I'm naturally pushed away from that thing"....said the Rolex fan boy 😂 I shouldn't laugh, I'm exactly the same. No offense Adrian, love your channel/content!
Not only that, but most of the watch channels are clones: all have sport Rolexes at their core, all like some other brands as satellites, and all aspire to the Holy Trinity grails. The same movie over and over.
I bought a Big Bang back in around 2004 (very early version with the PVD screws) and loved it. Hublot seemed pretty much unknown outside enthusiast circles. They had some great looking pieces alongside the BB and really appealed to my “stealth wealth” wish to own watches nobody had heard of. I even had personal interaction with JCB himself which further enamoured me to the brand. Five years later, they were well and truly on the “Special Edition” bandwagon and when the Manchester United Edition came out, my BB had to go - that Wayne Rooney might have one turned me off completely. I had no idea they had become so detested, but it seems what killed my love did the same to many more. Shame really.
I respect them quite a bit b/c they have some cool materials tech eg Magic Gold (the first scratch-proof gold), coloured sapphire and ceramic, and that they have their own design language (better than yet another dull steel diver)
Well, you’ve pretty much summed up all the reasons for what seems like a widespread dislike of Hublot and its brand associations amongst many watch collectors, so not much more for me to add. That said, they’re not not the only outfit at which many of the criticisms you’ve voiced could be levelled, not by a long way. Great videography btw.
I think you hit the nail on the head. I am sure Hublot would never want to cater to us enthusiasts either or they'd lose their ridiculous profit margins.
Totally agree with all of this. On a separate note; Rolex. Would you agree that (although rolex make a pure quality product and so on, I’m in no way knocking that) they are often bought by non enthusiasts as a way to portray status?
Coming from a big bang owner, i totally agree with you. Great way of portraying the reality of the brand and it is true, most people that buy this watch is to show off. I recently went back into the hublot showroom in Dubai Mall and you would not believe how customers are treated, i felt i was at a zoo or a vegetable market! Would probably never own a Hublot again putting all these factors into consideration. I do love mine as the strap and the carbon in the dial remind me of cars and i am a car enthusiast. I actually like a lot of Hublots designs. It was seeing one in a window that actually got me interested in watches. Being an obsessive nerd I quickly worked out they were very poor value for the money, so I never bought one, but I do wish at times that they were worth the cash, or at least realistically priced.
If you like it, you can buy it. It's not poor quality in my opinion. A Hublot can also last you a lifetime. Yes there are cheaper watches, with the same quality, but if you like it more than those, you don't have to care what watch snobs say. I would have no problem with it.
Yes I think the hublots look really nice tbh, the internal components do put me off though, I like getting food value for money. I really liked the alternative watches he showed as well.
I have Rolex, Hublot, JLC and many others and love them all. Hublot has the advantage of being much plainer and less showy than the others, it also wears better on my large wrists. The overall cost after a few services will be the same, the Hublot being a LOT cheaper to service with it's ETA or Sellita movements, Rolex are just silly prices to service :( It's not just the purchase cost you have to look at!
The watch I regret selling the most is my original 2007 Hublot Ice Bang. That watch was super functional and tough, but was easy to read and didn't have the "too pimpy" look of some Hublot's. I'd consider getting it again.
The look of Hublots always attracted me, "classic and traditional" in terms of looks is the exact opposite of my taste, and that's what most luxury brands do, so even if these are terrible value watches, normal people that wont do proper research buy them because they just wanted a high price point watch that doesn't look like all the other ones(to normal people's eyes)
But I do hate that the bolts do not line, and it must be done intentionally, as it is not that hard to design it to be at a specific position when correctly tightened
@@smoll.miniatures that's the thing, it should be possible to machine the screw holes and the screws themselves to be correctly torqued on a specific position when we're talking about watches with 5 digit price tags

I was in a watch store buying a GO SeaQ and another guy was with his son and they were looking at Hublots to upgrade the one he was wearing. I was thinking why is he even considering this brand when there are "better" watches at lesser price points. He was a tough-looking tattooed dude and the watches seemed to fit his attitude and style. There are people who aspire to Hublot and would laugh at Rolex wearers as mainstream sellouts.
Very informative video. I knew the brand was not liked among watch enthusiasts. I assumed it was simply due to their designs. Now I know that's not all that's lacking. BTW, enjoying my new Bark & Jack Nato 2.0. Wearing it with a used Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic 38mm I recently picked up. A perfect combination!
It's funny you mention the Ford engine example, since several Jaguar's have been made with Ford engines. Also noteworthy is how Volkswagen engines are used by luxury cars, notably the 2010 Bentley Continental Touring Flying Star or the 2007 Spyker C12 Zagato.
I was on a cruise recently and inside the "time zone" they had about 10 Hublots in a case. I looked and they were all exactly the same. I asked the sale person if they were the same watch just with different dials and bands. He said, each one is a different style. I just laughed. 😂 They were all the same!

I think that the bolts not lining up tends to be reassuring that they've been tightened to a consistent torque setting. Rather than having been over tightened (or under tigtened) just for the sake of aligning the slots.
Over or under tightening also isn't a solution on a 10,000-pound watch. The correct way to do it, would be to use proper length screws and then hand fit them.

Hublot has been inflicted by the same buyers and tackiness that killed the Ed Hardy brand. Breitling almost had the same thing happen, but they seem to be clawing back reputation now.
Ed Hardy (clothing) at its core is a fashion brand that styles itself amongst historically American Traditional tattooing. A lot of people don't understand that that is the basis behind the designs. You either love it or you don't but you have to appreciate the culture behind it and those it appeals to.
i love Hublot big bang unico ;when i wear a watch i wear it for the joy to watch it no for the what is inside or what other people think about me i spend a lot of money for watches ;i can buy rolex tomorow but i have no pleasure to check the hour on this to put an ETA on the Hublot and sell it with 15.000 usd is a bold statement this is the reason that many watch sellers on the secondary market hates Hublot
If Rolex can charge the prices that they do then Hublot can. It’s all about marketing and less about the actual watch. Just think what would happen to the Prices of Rolex if they actually supplied the demand. Oldest trick in the book make supply scarce and people will pay whatever.
It seems most of the criticisms levelled at Hublot here could also be levelled (to a slightly less degree) at Rolex. I don't see that big a difference.
Hublot is fine. They make some interesting and innovative stuff at times and some other bogus stuff that looks pretty ridiculous and is overpriced at other times. It doesn’t deserve as much hate as it gets and a lot of people who hate it often know absolutely nothing about the brand and have never even seen one in person. Some people’s reasons for hating Hublot are legit and there’s nothing wrong with that, but there are a lot of sheep who hate the brand and they couldn’t even give you a legitimate reason why. Hublot is simply a different type of brand going after a different market of collector. Hublot’s focus is often more on the artistic side of things and the fusion of materials rather than the movement itself. I will be the first to admit that some of their artistic creations look like an abortion though.
Anyone notice the horrible finishing on the underside of the second hand when it reflects off the minute marker at 10:05? How hard would it be to paint both sides when you have reflective surfaces underneath?!
I totally agree with you on the weird screws/bolts not lining up! It would drive me nuts, so even if I could afford one, I wouldn’t spend 10K on one with them . Their best and only decent model style-wise in my opinion is the Hublot Big Bang ‘Caviar’. Now that is one Hublot model which would make me spend that sort of money (if they made it a bit slimmer)! 🤔
Pause at 10:05 - When the seconds hand passes over the hour hand and you can see the underside of the seconds hand. That's criminal for price, holy moly!
I think all the stuff about "people only own a Hublot because it costs a lot" is not necessarily true. Yes, the objective quality of the watch is absolutely shocking (that second hand!), but it does have a distinctive style, and if that style speaks to you, you will likely overlook the imperfections. The heart wants what the heart wants.
Excellent well done Adrian- mostly bang on with your comments - great to see different content. I think Hublot and Panerai massively over charge based on ETA internals - just adds value snd merit to buying GS , zenith , Breitling , omega or Tudor and dare I say it current Rolex
Exactly. They are charging in house developed movements money with amazing finishing for a middle of the road casing and middle of the road ETA. Makes by BB58 look like an absolute bargain!
I actually like the new Big Bang integral watches… titanium with integrated bracelet, other materials available and the dials are quite good… but still overpriced… I opted for a Cartier Santos instead to be honest
I had a $200 Titanium Boldr, 200m WR, Saphire Crystal, screwdown crown, tough, functional and that was better watch specs wise than Hublot offers at $20,000 with its fashion watches.
Beautifully made video. Watches have been a habitual accessory for me, wearing one almost daily since I was a kid. I learnt of automatic watches a few years back and it fascinates me how just a spring translates to time, analogous to our thoughts coming from electrical impulses. It excites me. I don't have a grand collection, I simply can't afford one. But I do own watches that I really love and stood out to me. I wear them for my satisfaction only. And in such a discussion, can never see something like Hublot fit
That point about price is a huge part of being a true watch enthusiast!! You always see people bragging on comments about how they have a watch that’s more expensive than somebody who they disagree with 😂 realistically if they actually knew what they were talking about then they wouldn’t brag about it because a cheap watch can be just as good as an expensive watch but just in a different way
I don't really care about price, I've made money at each end of the spectrum. I was literally paid to wear a Rolex for years. HOW? because it sold it for more than I paid for it. These watches are out pacing most investments and crushing inflation. You get your cute .5 percent bank account, I wear a Rolex and make money LOL.

So this is an interesting one. I'll say up front Hublot are not my thing....at all. I also hate how they've been appropriated by footballers (building on your comment of them being for non watch people). However I'll say this. I'm a design director and I know how hard it is to do your own thing. They've managed to do it, love or hate it. The people who like them, really Mean it, and enjoy them. They're pretty well put together, and to be honest if we're talking prices...look at Rolex. Most of the watches you're comparing these with are VERY traditional. These are created to be the antidote to those. Most of the industry is backward looking, heritage based (which I like, but it is). Those who break out, Hublot, Richard Mille, get labeled as brash and vulgar. But they are original. I will never wear or buy a Hublot, but they probably deserve better than they get.
I totally agree, and the recent event with AP and Marvel proves it. As soon as a brand try a thing a bit out of the box, they are badly judged only by the traditionalists, and the « connoisseurs » and yet, the watches are still sold…
@@Ezekielchar Exactly. Hublot identified a market. People who want a status symbol on their wrist. 'Wrist Candy'. Something different, a conversation starter. A bit 'Rude' and outrageous. If you ask any guy on 'Love Island' what watch they'd aspire to buy, Hublot would be on that list....or Rolex. Which is why a lot of people hate Rolex (not me I like it just fine but you get what I mean). Watch 'Match Of The Day' (UK Football programme). Most of the managers are wearing them on the touchline, and Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer (the presenters) both wear them too. They've really nailed their demographic....and they sell watches when many other brands are dying. I love watches...but to a certain extent anything above a price point is luxury for lurxurys sake. Hublot understand this. Again, it's not to my taste, but I respect what they've managed to do.
The idea behind Hublot is being bold and different. The utilization of different materials to assemble a watch is unlike any other luxury Brand. Many iterations are very unique. The majority of Rolex owners worldwide know very little about the timepiece on their wrist other than it's a Rolex and the Brand status it brings from others who also know very little about watches - but are impressed due to the association / branding of being expensive or a status symbol!
It's a fashion watch. If a fashion watch is a watch with a price that is totally out of whack with its horological qualities and where its desirability lies in its accessory status more than its function as a timepiece, then Hublot is a fashion watch.
I think this is probably the most accurate description why it's hated. Watch nerds hate fashion watches. End of story. If they could somehow pull a Bulgari and make a beautifully finished timepiece with a cool in-house calibre, then maybe they could transcend the hatred. Until then. Forget about it.
Hey guys I can't decide for my first upscale watch purpose... I've narrowed it down to the Cartier de Santos 40mm or the Hublot Classic Fusion. what would you get and why?

AMEN
20 for the AP and 28K for the Nautilus are totally moronoic.
But they at least, make an effort to create some unique looking movements and they are supposedly very "innovative" in regards to their shock resistance.

You beat me to it…
I used to feel this way, but after adding several luxury watches to my collection I realized that saying, "a watch enthusiast doesn't see price as a feature" is simply a marketing scheme used by the industry to justify inflating watch prices.

Well, the watch prices will continue to skyrocket because it's an effective money laundering vehicle. You can smuggle tons of money globally right on your wrist and nobody even notices.
Prices went up because the Swiss Franc has become much much stronger since the 90s
What's the more underrated watch brands then?
Hublots pretty ass but I don’t really consider that attention to detail thats just a design choice from them, they don’t need to copy a royal oak its not hard to center screws into a circle and most luxury watches details are on a micro scale.
The reason for that is that they’re real screws whereas in the royal oak they are not screws but nuts.

I understand the criticisms of Hublot but I adore the design, personally, and luckily paid cash so I got a very decent chunk off the sticker price anyway (and no tax ... ;) )
A note on your criticisms of the bolts not lining up though...

The have earnt their reputation, earnt their prestige and the market has naturally inflated their products over time so that new models can reasonably be priced high... Hublot just decided to stick the watch at 10k and fake the luxury until enough wealthy idiots own one and it pumps their brand...

What’s next? Are you going to claim that Zenith El Primero chronomaster sport is a trend copy of the daytona?
“Sturdy but cheap materials”

“Using cheap movements”
Imagine thinking that every movement from ETA is cheap.
Perfect example is Rolex their claim of the Oyster being the first waterproof wristwatch however that’s bs. The first waterproof wrist watch was the Tavannes submarine wristwatch.
There are so many beautiful watchmakers who deserve your praise and Rolex isn’t one of them. You either accept it or you don’t.

the watch community LOVES to humble brag.
I would argue it's precisely for the watch enthusiast - I.e the person who doesn't mind their watch not holding value because they derive enjoyment from their hobby
It's very easy to say you like a sports rolex knowing that it effectively costs you nothing to own. Hublot owners appreciate the modern design and materials and are willing to pay for it is all.
Or, they're for people who likes Hublot.
@@rajmehta6210 except for hublot the quality does not match the price

This. If you would ask the „watch guys“ on UA-cam (hating on Hublot because of ETA movements in some of there watches) to name the name of the movement in their watches, 98% of them could not even tell it. Because they are just hopping on the hate train but do not care for movements at all.

Just a fancy "fashion watch".
if they were really so hated like this video claims they would be out of business.

Hublot has been inflicted by the same buyers and tackiness that killed the Ed Hardy brand. Breitling almost had the same thing happen, but they seem to be clawing back reputation now.

this is the reason that many watch sellers on the secondary market hates Hublot
Completely accurate on Hublot, LVH Group is that way ‘lifestyle’ branding…. Spot on …
