    Can't see from the video, but does it have the recessed grill ? ..... my and my then girlfriend could have roof up or down and back in the car within ten seconds ! (although there wasn't a great deal of gentle folding going on)

      So the car has the flush grill. I do prefer it in black as opposed to chrome.
      Haha I should do a speed test to see how fast I can do it solo. I’m thinking pretty quickly if I ever got caught out in a shower! 😂

      @@CharltonsClassics Mine cost me a fortune over the years... but the most fun car I've ever owned.
      I bought some wire wheels off a bloke who had a mint rubber bumper 'B' roadster that I couldn't figure out why his dash was so different to mine.... he proudly said it was a Mark 1 and he'd spent hundreds on a rubber conversion - go figure !

      @@bloodyliar Now you don’t often hear of people converting TO a rubber bumper eh. I think they are great cars to own and despite there being a constant desire to spend on her for bits and bobs, I’ve found mine to be quite reliable and for the most parts the spare parts are quite cheap (compared to some classics anyway). My Grandad bought this one in April, 1985 and I can’t quite believe it will have been in the family for 4 decades in about 6 months time. I dread to think what the total spend will have been to date 😂

    On my ‘65 I have hoodsticks. Did not see any on your car. I like the fold it into the storage area approach. Suppose the hoodsticks could go into the boot, where I typically have stowed the hood for 47 years. Thanks for the tip.

    • @CharltonsClassics
      @CharltonsClassics  8 місяців тому

      Yeah I think they look good but I think it’s probably less hassle without them. And there isn’t much boot space so just something else to have to store 😊

    Where did you get that roll-over bar?? Seems to fit well together!?

    • @CharltonsClassics
      @CharltonsClassics  Місяць тому

      The roll-bar was purchased from the MG Owners Club many years ago. I have just checked the website and they still sell these.
      You are right though, the bar fits nicely within the hood setup, and the mesh wind screen actually fits snugly within the roll bar frame; doing away with the untidy fitting kit...

    I love the MGB but the hood process is cumbersome. They should have just copied Alfa Romeo ...unlatch it and flip it back.

    • @CharltonsClassics
      @CharltonsClassics  3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah I know what you mean, especially if you get caught out and have to pull in to sort it. But I do think it looks quite neat when folded up, and doesn't take up too much space either :)

      @@CharltonsClassics It does, but I had both cars and the MGB hood makes no sense whatsoever. Just make it flip back. Period. End of story.

      It could be the typical MGB owner likes to be able to interact with the car in this way, carefully folding the top and buttoning it into place.

      I like everything quirky about the MGB, right down to the three windshield wipers. So I didn't mind. On my 1989 Alfa Romeo it was definitely easier and quicker but I don't like one better than the other.

      So to date I’ve done the Jorvik run and the Morecambe to Whitby coast to coast run.
      There’s the Hope Classic Rally in Hampshire next month which looks good, and the Lancashire Vehicle Club Rally in July (found on Google). They are a great day out and much more entertaining than just looking around a field of cars. You get the best of both worlds.
      Ha be careful what you wish for 😂. I’m sure he’d be open to being loaned out on a short term basis.
      I remember when I was a boy and used to navigate for him. Great family event potentially ☺️

    No tonneau cover? Not all MGBs have this type of folding top. Generally they were an erector set kind of non-folding situation. My 1969 MGB came with that kind of take apart frame. It didn't fold down. I bought a folding down mechanism from a wrecking yard from a junked later MGB and I found that I needed to retain the top metal part that is on the hood that gets clipped to the top of the windshield, but other than that the folding mechanism just bolted right in and it was so much more convenient to use.

    • @CharltonsClassics
      @CharltonsClassics  2 місяці тому

      @@upscalebohemian5372 Yeah I’m not a great fan of the tonneau cover. I don’t really see the point and my hood folds away quite nicely so you can then see all of the lines of the back of the car.
      I can imagine the non folding hoods being a pain in the arse, especially if you get caught out in the rain.
      It may not be the most practical mechanism in the world, but I can put it up in less than a minute so it’s not too bad.
      Enjoy your MGB. Im sure it’s a lovely car 😊

      @@CharltonsClassics it was. Now it's a motel at my father's barn for a family of my living in the trunk (or it was the last time I looked). :-) Here in California the cover made perfect sense. It kept farm land dust from getting on the top and then folded in and scratching the plastic windows.
