Thank you so much! This is a really great video 😊
Thanks a lot!! 😊
Wish I saw this when I was considering applying for maths. The past papers really intimidated me and put me off applying. Great video👍
Ohh, now I wish I made this video sooner! 😅 Thanks a lot though, and I hope you have found a place and degree that you enjoy!! 😉
Great video, thank you so much!!!
watching this 3 days before the MAT haha
Really helpful video, thanks ;)
😌😌
Thank you Ioana! Will you make a video on preparing for Olympiads?
Thank you.
Going to take the MAT in just under 12 hours, really nerve-wracking but I'd like to say a huge thanks, your tips have helped tremendously in my preparation 😊
Hey
Have you got selected or not ????
@@herlim6927 I ended up getting 81! But I got rejected from Oxford after an interview
@@envy5608 oh!
Would you like to share something about your interview?
What they check during an interview???
@@herlim6927 I had three interviews and they all asked different types of questions. they are going to be unfamiliar so my tip is to talk aloud what you think, slow down and don't panic. if truly stuck the interviewer will help you with a few hints
Hi just wondering if you need to sit mat for imperial?
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Thank you for your informative video!
Where did you take your MAT? Did you need to fly to UK to take the test?
No, I didn’t fly to the UK to take the test, I took it in a city near where I live.
You can find the closest test centre here:

Hey there, I am planning on applying for the undergrad computer science course at Oxford starting 2024/2025, and I am from Romania like you (I made an assumption based on name and accent, excuse me if I'm wrong). I was wondering whether you have to pay full tuition and managed to get a scholarship or if you had some sort of pre settlement in the UK so you only have to pay the Home fee. In case you got a scholarship, what kind is it and how difficult would it be to get a course fee scholarship? at a glance on their website, there aren't many options for Romanian students...
@Ioana Roman Is GED is allows in United Kingdom college like Cambridge University?
Thank you so much
☺️
You said you applied for joint maths and computer science and ended up getting an offer for only maths. Does that happen often? And why did that happen?
What other sites do you recommend for questions
Thank you! This is a really helpful video!!
Is it worth it to apply to Oxbridge despite the amount of workload and stress you will be going through?
Thanks a lot!! :)
In my opinion, it’s absolutely worth it!! It might take a while to get used to the workload in the beginning, after you’ve got it figured out you’ll have plenty of time for your hobbies or friends and you’ll have a great time at uni! We also get very long vacations, so it’s not all that intense all the time! 😊
Awesome video. My daughter is applying for maths and philosophy year 2025 may ( she finishes her IBDP)
What tips do u give for writing a personal statement for this combination of study of maths and philosophy?
Please where can we find the past papers for medicine (mathematics, chemistry and biology)..kindly send the link
MAT Tomorrow !!!
Start studying in the summer
Schools -3 days
do u think i should aim to get all of a level maths and further maths done this year and then start on uni stuff and next year so its not to hard?
Yes, I think that would be a great strategy to start with! A lot of the Maths you do at uni is built upon A Level Maths so you need to have that knowledge up to date. ☺️
Got 77 but got rejected :( oh well I’m happy I got a good score! Thanks for the awesome tips
That’s an amazing score! Be proud of yourself, you did great!! Honestly it is their loss 😉
im planning to apply do you mind giving tips on the whole ordeal?
I first went through all the contents that MAT will cover so things like calculus, coordinate geometry, and you know all those things. I then saw how many days/weeks/ months I had towards my MAT and I made a timetable for when to do what paper. I spread them out equally so I didn’t rush through all the papers at once then sort of forget it . Start with the older papers and slowly work up to the newer papers as they were a little easier so that’s why. When you do the papers, don’t be anxious for finding them really hard from the start. Whenever you make a mistake, right down and understand thoroughly what the mark scheme wants and how you can approach future questions the same way. Maybe next time if you see a similar question you know exactly how to approach it or you may find a creative way. But never go a bit off tangent even if you get the right answer as they care about working a lot more than the answer itself. For multiple choice, also practice TMUA. You may even sit the TMUA for Warwick or use it for practice for the multiple choice as they give you a lot more practice on those. Do each paper at least twice but give each attempt a huge break so you first don’t remember the answers as much and so you can look back and see how you approached the question now and before. And keep improving your answer to how they want.
Hope this is useful. Sorry if you were confused I just realised I used my old account to respond haha
@@akiraalexander7751 thank you very much
thats crazy, I would expect 77 to get you a place for sure
What is the eligibility for this test ?
Thank you for the tips, really helpful!
Two small questions, did you have any Olympiad background which you mentioned in your application?
Also, what were your grades in A Levels/IB?
Thanks!
I did actually participate in Maths Olympiads every year throughout high school, went to the National Maths Olympiad and got some medals - I've briefly talked about these and how they affected my understanding of Maths in my Personal Statement.
I took the Romanian Baccalaureate, it's similar to the A levels, my grades got translated into A*A*A* in the A level format.
Hope this helps! :)
@@ioanaroman2947 Thank you for the response, much appreciated.
Did you also mention about your Olympiad background in the UCAS application for UK unis? Is there any ‘Extracurriculars’ section for that?
I am applying next year for Oxford - Mathematics or Maths + Comp Sci. My predicted A Level grades are straight A* but I also did maths Olympiad for 3 years and got into the follow up rounds for all of them, hence I really wanted to highlight that as a potential advantage!
I only mentioned the Olympiads in my personal statement, I would strongly suggest you do the same, as they really are a factor that can set you apart from the other candidates and you can elaborate a bit in your essay about what you have gained from this experience (e.g. the ability to work independently, studying material outside of the level of the classroom etc.)
@@ioanaroman2947 Thank you so much for the advice, much appreciated!
Hope you are having a fabulous time at Oxford! :)
@@ioanaroman2947 Ive never been in a maths olympiad do you think its to late to do so? Im year 12
Hi Ioana am from Ghana and I want to apply to oxford through ucas. I want to ask if the MAT test will be online or an exam center?
The MAT test isn’t online it is written at an exam centre which could be your school
Wow u are real
Nvm
Am in Ghana and Don't know any exam center here everyone write exam in their own school
Pls drop your ig
what's the average MAT score needed to get into imperial college
if you look at the examiner’s reports on physicsandmathstutor then u get the average marks of each year of the people that got an interview
I haven't given any olympiads yet...still can i make into oxford or any good college? I have great grades and preparing hard for MAT?
Sure you can! As long you are passionate about Maths you’ll do great! Best of luck! :)

@@yagyaparasar4376did you get in ??
what is a good grade i got 73/100 on my first practice paper is that good?
Usually, yes, it is a great score!! You need to look at the statistics for every year though, as some years the papers might have been easier.
But generally speaking, a score of over 70 is amazing, so good job!
@@ioanaroman2947 ok, thank you for the help
also, how did you choose between oxford and cambridge, or was it not really a decision that you had to make?
Is Cambridge better for maths or is it just a myth? Btw nice video, I liked the words "they test mathematical understanding rather than a breadth of knowledge."
Definitely just a myth! 😉
As far as I know, the kids who score best in international maths olympiads opt either for Oxford or for MIT/Harvard, so I would definitely call it just a myth
But I guess it’s quite subjective and it just depends on your personal preference, as the courses are a bit different
I'm fucked
Are you studying at a scholarship?
I don’t have a scholarship, I have taken a credit from the UK government.
Anyone else kinda panicking atm?
yes 😭
I took a past paper… got 20/100 wtf man
That’s good bro keep pushing 💪🏾
