    The S400 is a living nightmare, period!!! The so-called "hybrid" fails, with the Power Control Module, and the High Voltage Generator; the car will simply not start and leave you stranded, or worse! And the cost of replacement is $12,000! And no you can't simply purchase a used unit, because they all suffer from the same burn-out failure, and no one can work on these cars; even the main dealer only had one technician. I had two units replaced under warranty; each with the same issues. It is a serious design fault that Mercedes tried to ignore, and brush under the carpet, even though there were warnings sent to the dealership. Replacement units are ordered from German on an "exchange" policy, so normally no one gets to see what failed including the technician, as the unit is sealed. As luck would have it, my dealer forgot to return the failed unit and left it in the boot; so after asking if they wanted it back, which they declined, I decided to dismantle it, to see what the cause was. The Power Control Module has three separate phases which receive voltage from three generators attached to the fly-wheel. One of the phases had been subjected to so much power it had caught fire and melted the coil wire in half! Oh, and let's not forget the Power Control Module, is a sealed air-tight unit, and the S400 had a 60amp generator, so imagine how many amps had to be sent through the wire to catch fire and melt it! My car even after the two replacement units, would start once, and then it may or may not start again, and don't forget it has a stop/start system that "can't" be turned off, so every time you go below 7mph the shuts down, and could leave you stranded with no power. So dangerous was this; imagine trying to turn across oncoming traffic and finding your engine isn't restarting, that my insurance company determined the car dangerous to the point they totaled a 4 yrs old S-class and paid me out! I love the S-class, so I purchased a reliable S63 with no safety issues. So if you are tempted by an S400, please don't the cars can be lethal!

    Are paint blisters on a 2012 s350 covered under the 30 year anti corrosion?

    Re the M272. The build no is linked to the VIN. Not all balance shafts fail even on early M272s most shouldn't.

    How is the transmission on the 2012 s550? I heard the newer ones like a 2017 have transmission issues. I was considering buying a used 2012 s550 with 90k miles for cheap.

    @EEPRODUCTIONSKLB: I’m really considering buying a W221 2013 S550 4Matic with less than 50000 miles (for Classic car restoration [last year of production] and for leisure) what is your advice on this consideration since I’m getting mixed reviews on actually owning this type of car with corrosion problems, transmission problems, timing chain problems & suspension problems…Is it worth it?

      Myself I would love an s500 W140, the last of the real S-class. But I would not be surprised that it would cost quite a lot to get it into perfect working order. The last W140 rolled off the production line 26 years ago...

      1. All brakes
      2. RF air suspension
      3. A/c heat keeps running no air through vents (still no answer)
      4. Some rattling when accelerating
      5. Replaced the front stabilizer link
      Other than that it’s fine..lol

    • @EEPRODUCTIONSKLB
      @EEPRODUCTIONSKLB  5 років тому +2

      It really depends on your own preferences, if you drive a lot and long distance you should pick the diesels. If you want a reliable petrol engine pick the V8 petrol engines. In the Netherlands diesels pay twice as much roadtax, so next to preference sometimes your choice is made based on a financial reason.

      I owned a 2004 V220 (W220 Long wheel base), it only had 60,000 when I bought it. The engine was the better 3.7 litre V6 unleaded Petrol (Gas for u Yanks!). It had a 5 speed auto.
      It was a nice car, sure, however I would not buy the 3.5 litre Petrol due to the harmonic balancer shaft sprocket being soft and will wear terribly.
      The 3.7 and 5 speed worked very well together.
      I liked the look of the W221 and also wanted a diesel, So that’s what I bought. The seats are way better, all around it is a nicer more muscular looking vehicle. I’m in Australia and drive interstate so for this and many other reasons diesel was the pick for me. This one is 2008 (private import) again V221, which is the long version on the W221.
      It’s black and black and love every minute of driving her. It’s a beautiful ride and very quiet. Normally these vehicles are extremely expensive to own, however if you own a laptop and download the manual and do the repairs yourself buying parts from eBay you will save a fortune.
