i can't believe that nearly 7 years have passed since the w220, a few months from now we will be saying goodbye to such an amazing car :( i think the "s class" is a curse especially if it was your first car, because then you will be comparing every other car to it and won't feel satisfied until you own one.
Agreed. I especially love the S-Class, I went in one the other day and I completely forgot how quiet they were until I got in again. I own an A8 and it's extremely quiet and comfortable but when I stepped into that S-Class I know it was in a completely different class. I drove a 7-Series a couple of years ago too, and it was, in 1 word, fun. Shame their styling isn't any good. But all 3 are great cars. I don't see why anyone complains. Unfortunately there are people like him in this world...
2012 S65 AMG. Best S-class ever! Stupidly powerful, amazingly comfortable and that V12 sound gives you the "fizz" as James May calls it. It's also very pretty. Aggressive and elegant, sexy and classy, all at the same time. Like a female villain in a spy movie! I got the chance to drive one of these babies for a whole day and it was the best thing I've ever driven. The car is like a butler that caters to you, so you are always comfortable. The radar cruise control makes sure you don't hit anything in front of you and with the side assists on, the car can almost drive itself. The massage seats make sure your back gets royal treatment, even in corners, cause air pockets inflate and you don't move about in the seat. You just gently sink into the seat. But the best part is, that the restrained and classy butler can turn into a tire-shredding, corner eating, Autobahn dominatrix! Put everything in sport mode and this car makes you feel alive! The acceleration is brutal and the car is stable at speed. Also comfortable even at 250kmh. Fuel consumption was 24l /100km, but I didn't care! Low miles per gallon are nothing when the car gives you many, many smiles per gallon! Best S-class ever!
That's a great choice. I would've picked the 2.0 TDI A4 though. If you're going to get your dad into an A5, try to get him into the 3.0 TDI version, that engine is a beast. I have the same one in my A8 and it definitely performs when you want it to and it's surprisingly economical for such a big engine. I get an average of 1000 miles on each tank, and that's with combined city and motorway driving! And when you rev it, it makes a lovely sound.
Haha love your sense of humor and especially the energy you put into it. Big S class fan, this is probably the 5 th time I'm watching this. Good work, keep it coming !
I just purchased this a week ago, I driven my caddy for years, but I found this in the rice point I want, and handles great for a RWD, since I am used to a FWD auto.
I asked some someone who used to own one about it and how it was because he had it for six years, he told me after some years of using, he start noticing some electric problems and and the leather and materiels used in it became noisy over time but overall i think it was a decent car and it still is
thank you. We don't use it much, only when we go to fancy places or to a visit or family event. We also have a honda cr-v and bmw 3 series for everyday use. This mostly stays in the garage.
I would take a used S class over the new one. It doesn't have as much tech, but it's still very good for the value. 2010-2013 S550s sell for about 50,000 USD with about 10,000 to 20,000 miles
Same here. I also prefer the looks of this one to the current 2014 onwards version. Sleeker and more discreet. Saw one in the petrol station the other evening and it looked fantastic under the halogen lights.
There were some recent model years with great problems, primarily injector systems. I remember seeing an disproportional number of new Mercedes out of order on the side of the roads. However, Mercedes learned the lessons of the recent past and the old reliability has returned along with some of the best interior designs ever and functional options. Most of the problem models have also been properly modified and repaired to stop the break downs that plagued the brand, at least in Europe.
yes, I have driven both. All you get in the S-class is electric moving rear seats. The Mondeo also has things like heated/cooled front & rear seats, premium sound system, rear DVD entertainment.
Albania-american represent. My father bought an s550 back in 2009, and honestly it's amazing. you're gonna fuckin love this thing man, amazing automobile
Great video with lots of history. I notice Mercedes "wisely" makes frequent mention of the history (even in their ads). I really wish BMW did this more often because BMW truly has a long, rich and proud history. Something I've noticed most people know little about, It would be nice if BMW themselves made a video like this so more persons could grasp the true significance of the brand (including young BMW enthusiasts who don't really know the history).
Keith Watson Absolutely! Plus, they last a really really long time. Very solid robust cars. When I worked at a shop, I saw the older SED's came in with 100's of thousands of miles on them and it surprised no one. SED's are perfect for people who hate diesels because the engines have a ton of character to them. Parts are expensive though. New ones are equally as good.
I remembered the first time I had entered and driven this car several years ago. Many people said that it is not an involving car to drive however I did develop a strong emotional connection with this beauty. Its personality is infectious. Thank you Mercedes for creating this car. I am currently waiting for the W222 model here in my country. From what I heard it is a vastly superior car than this model. Hope I could fall in love with that too!
Your English is good, I totally agree with you. The A8 isn't a bad choice either, but it's for people who want a more modern approach. The S-Class is still the king of luxury. BMW 7-Series doesn't even compare to the others.
Without going to their website, I'm fairly sure both are options on at least some of their models. B&G may be a higher priced audio option and naturally, a notch or two above H/K.
Great review as always. Oh and to the people arguing about the 3 german brands all I can say is: BMW is the benchmark for sporty saloons, Mercedes is the benchmark for luxury ones. Where does that leave the Audi? .
The fact is that Ford were the first to offer a lifeguard safety package, they were the first to use a lot of systems, so were Mercedes, both played a huge roll in making our roads safer.
It's not perfect, but it rides pretty nice. This weekend going to take it to San Diego. See how it rides on a long ride. So far I've only been driving to work. Only 21 miles.
BTW the interior of the 7 series looks exactly how it should. Its not supposed to be glittery and busy looking. Its supposed to be flowing and have a calming effect while still providing u with hints of its underlying robustness.
I initially thought that but apparently my friend in the Mercedes world says some of the contrasting interior trim is design. Subtle differences in color obviously but not too obvious.
I totally agree with you, however, i recetly went to the launch event of the new Lexus range, I have to say that you are wrong in saying thinking that they are unreliable, if they were unreliable and cheap, why won't people buy them? The new LS is amazing! check it out!
i've heard many good things about the 7 series. Hope it's doing you well. In Europe, most tech know pretty much what to do with a benz, but in America, it's somewhat difficult because all they know is chevy, dodge, and ford which most of my family stays away from.
Really can't talk bad about my SC 430, never had one problem in 4 years of ownership. The LS flagship could be there, but Mercedes has so many models of reliability and performance coupled with leading edge technology.
