A similar thing happened to me when I tried to help out a 'friend'. It's very upsetting when you realise you've got a violent, unstable person living in your home.

I had a friend and roommate who left me with a phone bill and a mess . Even your friends will do you wrong.

Had a friend way back in the early 70. He was going through a bad patch. His wife was leaving him and he had no job. I gave him a job for a few weeks till he got back on his feet. During the period he worked for me, say 2 weeks, he borrowed the key of the site hut to make what he called. Local calls. His young gf had moved to Canada and was pregnant by him. He used our site phone to make the calls. The firm got the fraud squad involved and they asked me had I loaned the key to snyone. I immediately trued to protect my friend but when he started to deny everything to me, I let the fraud squad go ahead and explain to him why they knew that he was the one who was making calls to Canada costing 400+ a time..
As he grew older. his gfs grew younger..In the end, it was pathetic to watch.
The moment that the roommate screamed at her and slammed the door she would have been out. Nobody comes to my house and does that. That is why some people prefer to live alone.

That was not a true friend then.
I have had some really bad roommate situations before but, luckily, none this bad. You never really know someone until you live with them no matter how long you’ve known them before that.
I was so blessed to have two wonderful roommates in 2017 & 2018. The extra money helped me pay off my car. I would never rent my room again in this day.
Same!! I had many roommates and tenants. The last one almost killed me. I'm 400 miles away living a great life. I don't trust anyone!!

When I was a child in they 60's and 70's my grandmother always rented her rooms out to students. She had two at a time. They never caused her any problems or harm. She was lucky.

She was very blessed. My poor dad didn't ever have one good tenant. The people whom he rented to were destructive to the property and didn't pay rent. So then he'd have to evict them, which cost him even more money than he could possibly afford. He was always poverty-stricken. I don't even know how he was able to buy the place he was trying to rent out to begin with.
One of those rotten tenants used to be a best friend of mine when we were kids. Her mother and my stepmother were best friends until her mother passed away. So this person was kind of like family, and my dad had no qualms about renting to her. He had no idea she would take advantage of his kindness the way she did. She came up with excuses after excuses for not paying rent and was destructive to the property. She allowed her BF to move in with her even though it was against the terms of the lease. All kinds of stuff like that. It still makes me so angry just thinking about it!

This is why I never let people stay at my house. Once they move in, it’s really hard to get them to move out.

@@lorir5728yep I'm going through this right now with the my mother and a crazy tenant, and then my good friend was just violently assaulted by his tenant and the police still would not arrest him. I couldn't believe it. Judge denied a restraining order because he didn't want the violent tenant homeless. I couldn't believe it

It is a tradition amongst the property owners in my family to personally bodily evict tenants rather than wait for the court process. This movie helped me to understand why! 💪

Better to sell your house and downsize to a smaller space that fits your current needs than rent a room to anyone. Those arrangements are either a hit or miss and you never know which you'll get.

The way my blood boiled. How can people be so cruel and take advantage of someone's kindness.
It's a huge let down to people like myself who want to believe that others are kind and respectful in the same way we are.
I've personally become very cynical the last several years because of the unbelievable things I've experienced as a result of the way people treated both me and my daughter. It makes it very hard to trust anyone - even those you've thought of as "good" friends - anymore.
I believe the lady will Never have a renter in her home again!
You have to think for the safety of your pets too before strangers come into the picture.

Or live as a tenant with total stranger... My landlord was mentally unstable under therapy which I didn't know at the time. One day, she left me out of the flat, in my pyjamas, and went to my room, throwing my things around. All I could hear from the outside her crying without letting me back in.

I thought about renting a room in my house when I first got divorced. But it was only a passing thought. I'm a very private person and I couldn't have taken someone living in my home. I'm glad I took the time to get to know myself I was married for a very long time and I couldn't have taken another person living with me. I'm still by myself and I absolutely love it. Take the time to get to know yourself you can do it. you don't need anyone else ❤

Glad the divorced woman was a strong woman, because she pretty much had to deal with this dangerous lunatic by herself. The way her daughter treated her when she drove 100 miles to see her at collage was disgraceful! I was not great father, but none of my kids would been so disrespectful or so unconcern. Beauty is only skin deep. Good movie!

I actually lived in a duplex garden apartment and I was on the 1st floor. It was a horrendous experience. My landlord's cousin who owned the above unit rented it out to a mentally unstable guy. This guy was so unstable that at the end I had to have him arrested attempting to trespass my apartment whie my mother was there. It was really scary. Now as a landlord I know what questions yo ask but mos importantly, I never conduct interviews with prospect tenants over the phone. It aways must be conducted in person.

For some reason, I've had an addiction to old made-for-tv movies the past few days. Normally, I don't even like watching movies anymore. It's weird.
This is just too awful for words and, yet again, it's always the awful people who win out over us decent law-abiding citizens. How can this ever change for the better??

I'm not moving in anywhere where I can't use the central heating. I love these older lifetime movies with no cell phones everywhere etc. It was weird to see someone actually get in a cab like the old days.

You can still find taxis especially in larger cities. I sometimes don't use the central air to cut down on costs.

Mental illness is real!! I was so mad when Patti didn't fight back hard enough at first but it's shocking to deal with someone like that and at the end when she asked her to hold her I cried because I have a nephew with mental illness and they make you both angry and feel bad for them 😢😢

Very true. I remember when this film debuted & it disturbed me in a strange way. Its shocked me the way the law was on the side of the disturbed person & NOT the owner! I hated that she killed the woman's cat....but also hated that she retaliated by killing Romeo the mouse. I know that people can escape your radar, but this young woman acted REALLY bizarrely from almost the beginning, even before she agreed to let her move in. There has to be easier & safer ways to pay the mortgage than rent to strangers.
But the ending made me cry....& still does. Because the disturbed young woman was indeed mentally-ill & was dying....kudos to the older woman for having the compassion that the young woman did not.
What a great film!
The gaslighting and psychological manipulation portrayed was very realistic. I felt so sorry for the lady who owned the house, and could imagine how she was left dealing with her unbalanced lodger. Brilliant acting throughout!
Oh god. Just past halfway through and was not prepared for that. Excellent movie, excellent acting, they don't make them like they used to.
I’m glad my sister was my roommate when we moved together 2 yrs ago instead of a stranger. I don’t trust anyone else who I don’t know to let them live with me. Now I live with my husband ❤️ This is a great movie to learn to never let a stranger live with you

I know, I had to look away! The cat looked so real. My evil neighbor poisoned my 6 pound pomerainian. He is now in prison for an unrelated crime. The World is not so "Leave it to Beaver" anymore.

My best friends mother, whom I loved dearly, is a doppelganger to Lindsay Crouse.
Do not move strangers into your home, my mother did this after the death of my father with the intention of making a little money to supplement her widows benefits. Crimes were terrible crimes were committed against me, and my mom. People stole everything my father worked for on top of the other crimes. I still suffer to this day over what happened. Better off to get a job anywhere, go to church, community get together, volunteer for something, get a pet, anything, just please don't move strangers into your home.

Not a good idea too move a stranger into your home.its like inviting door number 3 into your home ,u dont know them and dont know what your getting.
I knew a girl for 3 years we worked together and had a great friendship..we got an apt and day 2 was when she told me she had a husband in jail for selling drugs..no mention of this in the 3 years prior... she changed quickly and i left..he was a very aggressive and abusive man, I wanted no part of that
It was a good movie. She had such a mean and selfish family who were too busy caring about their own needs. If people show goodness on a daily basis there would be less crime and less drug taking. It is in everyone’s best interests it would reduce health costs., insurance costs etc. at the same time be aware of your safety and do good and try to aim to be happy and spread happiness whenever u can.

@@cathybassett6432. Normal renters, this is a psycho. And, even with leases reviewed by legal counsel and signatures, it is VERY difficult to to evict people.
I must agree. I warned my own neighbors about this: Its insane how many rights people can have if you let them stay with you......& I am not even talking about LEGAL renters! You can experience a problem if you allow the person to get their mail where you live! It actually establishes residency!
So if you allow someone to stay with you, MAKE SURE THEY GET A P.O. BOX!
Otherwise it could be disastrous.
@@cathybassett6432 It depends on the state & the lease. In my state, it can take a minimum of 90 days to 6 months to evict someone! Its ridiculous. Even if you are not a legal renter, the squatter's rights here are ludicrous. Allowing the person or persons to get their mail delivered in your home ESTABLISHES RESIDENCY! Just say no!
An old English law re squattets rights. It make no sense to me at all.
I had bad experience I can understand this woman well . I had to kick a woman out with 20 people as evidence what she did to me I was helping her out I only said for little while I tell you never trust to let anyone in your home . In reality things like this actually happen. I had good supportive friends better live alone then with a nightmare .

I never understood the whole wine/books/candles/ even food in the bathtub. Why would you snack whilst bathing??? I tried reading a book once like they do in these films & all I did was get bubbles splashed on my book. No fun!

I actually adore marinating in the bath with my book, music, candles, wine, and essential oils. It’s so pleasant. When the water starts to cool, I just start adding more hot. Simple easy solution. Love my bathroom. Other than my kitchen, it’s my favorite place in my home. ❤

My mother and I are going through this right now with a tenant. He is scary beyond belief and we pray we can get him out and that he will not come back to hurt us. Crazy just like this woman.

That lady needed to be disallowed to live unsupervised and unmedicated. People like that should not be permitted to live on their own in society! Personal experience with an ex who lived on his own and ultimately, allegedly molested my daughters friend and ended up in jail at which time I divorced him.

I've never heard of any of these actors but they were all so professional. Great editing, camera and sound. Was this made for Cable or network TV? Well done, good script and acting.

This is all to familiar unfortunately. I rented out a room to a man that was studying to be a pastor, so I thought that was safe... He turned out to be a schizofrenic that came to see me as an angel, send to him by god. He wrote me like 8 long letters a day, very psychotic text. I found out that he'd been imprissoned (psychiatric ward) for 5 years for slitting the throat of a woman, who was just like me 'a present from god' (she rejected him so he picked up a knife. Psychward/prison let him go after 5 years because they didn't know how to treat him any further...) It was horror, he wouldn't leave the house. I went to a lawyer and had him removed, but it lasted for two more frightening years that he stalked me. Untill he was taken to jail again for threatening a nun with a knife. I found out last year that he was back in town!! Released again!! I saw him walking like 20 feet from me and froze. He is still around, I keep watching over my shoulder.
I’d drag her out with the hair on her head if she was in my home acting like that! No one has the right to come into your safe space and treat you any other way than with the utmost respect and courtesy! That said, the actress is so good and being the bad gal, I don’t remember her in any movie that’ she’s actually a good decent person! 😂
