I use the D710 as my primary, but I’m just a rec diver diving mostly in the daytime. Took it to Catalina island with crystal clear water mid day and I could still see the beam underwater. Don’t know if it’s the best light ever, but it works for me.
I own the ORCATORCH D570 2-in-1 Scuba Diving Safety Light with 1000 Lumens, and Green laser pointer, Underwater up to 150 Meters. I love it. I definitely recommend it. 👌🏼
Yes. However, you only trash the very rarely, because you don’t use them, while you have to recharge the rechargeable a on a regular basis. Would be interesting to see a holistic life cycle assessment on the sustainability. It’s not unlikely that trashing 4 alkalines every 2 years is more sustainable than production and regular charging of lithium batteries.
Ich nutze die D520. Die D520 lässt sich auch nur über den drehbaren Lampenkopf ein- und ausschalten. Bin bis jetzt super zufrieden damit und kann nichts negatives berichten!
The engineer in me appreciates the quantitative view. They seem to continue the industry-wide trend of exaggerated lumens. (I suggest rounding to the nearest 1000 lux, though, as the additional digits were distracting.)
I don't mind if the button is concealed under some form of water protection. The thing is the area where the button is, is an area to watch out for esp when diving in salt water, as salt can accumulate around the button. I own an Orca Torch twist style, and I love it very much.
@@DoktorBEN Someone sold me a used orcatorch D5270GL. I am curious as to how the push button work, and it takes a little to be used to, but I do appreciate that you have to push the button down with a little force. It prevents the light from switching off automatically.
@@DoktorBEN Took D570-GL as backup torch to 50 meters. Button stopped working at 42 meters (could not turn it on), so would not recommend button ones as backups.
the buttons on the lights work well, when you are done with the dive, you pack the equipment, you come home and when you clean your regulators, computer, etc. you take the light with the button and immerse it in warm water, press the button 20 or so times and leave it to dry, salt is only problem for people who don’t take care of their gear
The first con that I noticed about this light after opening the box, is that they supply a cable that only charges one battery at a time. This is very inconvenient. Hopefully I can find a way to charge two at one time and even find extra batteries.
Hi Ben, can you review the new Orcatorch D580? It's a ~500 lm light that can work on 3xAAA batteries, which makes it a possible budget backup light which also fits the GUE standards
HI Ben ! I'm surprised that you choosed the D710 as a GUE diver, you should consider buying instead the D520 from orcatorch. A GREAT light, without any buttons, without booster circuit, really tought ! I use them 3 at the same time mounted on a goodman handle i make myself as they are really small. You can see "Alienlight" from Inner Space Explorers in youtube, I took the idea there.
@@DoktorBEN No more dead than forgetting to change the alkaline batteries/checking they still have enough charge remaining... Easily turned on before the dive thinking they're full, only to find they weren't... At least with Lithium, they can be taken out after every dive and charged. Much better for the environment than replacing the alkaline every time. That said, my back-up is a Halcyon Scout running Alkaline... :D
I’m on my second D710. First one went bad in less than 6 months and the second one will not turn off now. These are complete junk in my opinion! Steer clear.
Well…it’s a straightforward way. As I always point out, it’s always just an over the thumb approach. However, it gives a rough and quick idea about the light without overcomplicating it.

In general, I think measuring the spot size would be a good addition to your testing. Love your videos!
Yes that’s right. Guess I’ll do it the next times.
I never had a rechargeable light, but would have love to have one. Less batteries in trash is a great development.

Well done on the video bro, it was really insightful and a great review. Dive safe, have fun! 👍🤗🔦🍻

Muss ich mir mal anschauen! 😃

Yeah that’s true. Numbers sell light apparently…
Definitely brighter than my future 🙈

That’s exactly one of the reasons, why GUE divers don’t like buttons 😄

Yeah that’s why I prefer turn head lights

It uses only one battery though. At any time you could use a multi charger.
What do you recommend for recreational? Use the best I really don’t wanna purchase another one for a while.
Well…in that case I’d go for the Halcyon Flare Exp
burn time in colder water (14 degrees c) mine goes out after 50 minutes
friend, do you recommend the page to buy from Colombia ❓️

Well, I can try to get one and make a review!

I didn’t buy them. They sent me the light for free. That’s why it was the D710 🤣
I would invest and go with Tillytec. Quality made in Germany. I know many rec and tec divers that recommend this brand.
I have an old Tilly light, too. Not bad, but in the last years they turned a bit away from technical divers.
How much for that mr ben
Around 130 €
I want to buy one from Colombia
Sorry…can’t you buy it directly from them?
I use lithium in my back up lights. The technology is reliable. The danger is a lazy diver not making sure it is charged.
Well still making it a dead diver possibly 😉

Good to know. Mine is still on, but die to the rechargeable battery and the switch I used it only on land, anyway. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Without a polar diagram of the light it is pretty naiv to do calculate lumen and lux like you do

Lots of issues with this D710.
Really? What are they?
No. Because it's a 3 modes light. So, it's annoying underwater.
Lots of issues with this D710. Steer clear, DO NOT BUY!!!!!
