Trigger squeeze vs trigger pull - Rick is showing some legit marksmanship skills with that statement. In marksmanship, we teach Soldiers (or anyone) to aim, breathe in, breathe out, then squeeze trigger. A slow, easy squeeze, it should almost surprise you when the gun fires. Pulling the trigger creates a jerk on the rifle, even a small jerk will have significant impact when shooting a target more than a few yards away. Similarly, breathing can cause the rifle to gently move up and down with each breath, hence inhale, exhale, trigger squeeze.
I’ve always liked the end. He tells Evie to run and she stays and helps him, Imotep begs Anacksuman for help and she runs. The hurt in his eyes really shows you how true love is supposed to look and how they both feel bad for him in the very end.

I agree. I did feel kinda bad for him, especially after the way Anck su Namun abandoned him like that. You can tell that Anck was only using Imhotep so that she can get what she wants. She totally deserved to die.
@@jonathansmith8672 I feel more she was terrified of the underworld. She was there for thousands of years, remember, but she wasn't so much a coward as she stabbed herself in the first movie. So for me, I think the underworld that was grabbing Imhotep was the difference. I don't think she was 'using' him exactly (She was the Pharaoh's mistress, what was she lacking?) but her love clearly wasn't as strong as Imhotep's.

One of the things I appreciate the most about this movie is that it doesn't ruin Evie and Rick's relationship. So many movies that end in the way the original Mummy ended have a sequel that's basically "oh we broke up, or oh we're having relationship problems".
Evie's death is absolutely CRUSHING. You see it's effect on Rick right up until he sees her alive again. Then you also see how he responds to seeing her again. You can literally see the burst of adrenaline surge through him as he recovers from being knocked down and worn out.
There's an outtake from that scene on the DVD. It was either spontaneous, or Patricia Velasquez botched the stabbing motion, but right as Rachel sinks to her knees after having been "stabbed," she BURSTS out laughing.
Shortly after Rick tells her their son is becoming more like her every day comes the scene where all of the pillars domino into each other one after another. This scene is a direct call back to the first movie when his mother knocked over all of the bookcases at the museum in the same way.
Apparently one of the notes the directors got at a viewing was that when evie died, you could still see her pulse in her neck. His reply was that he doubted Rachel was OK with being killed for real.
Truth is she was only mostly dead. Mostly dead, she’s slightly alive. All dead, you go through her clothes and look for loose change. Courtesy of Miracle Max!
The PERFECT sequel. Characters have advanced, older, wiser. They've learned from each other. Everything is in its logical place at the beginning. There's no drastic change between the first and second films to force a sequel. Like if it were other series, Evie might've been dead/they would've been divorced, Rick might've been a drunkard or somehting.
I 100% agree. Even Evie's job situation has evolved, with the people who rejected her application before now begging her to work for them. They said she'd lacked field work, and based on how she handles the snake in the intro, we know she's had plenty of field work in the past 9 years.
There is a quite credible theory that Jonathan served in the British army in World War I, and a good deal of his presented personality is a reaction to the horrors of that war. It would certainly explain how good he was with that rifle.
And his “antics” in the first combined then with the wealth induced increase would lend credence to this Those who return from such horrors manifest things in different ways…some try to outrun them, some succumb, some confront, others like Jonathan deflect
These movies were SO well-cast in all aspects, but I agree that Oded Fehr was a gem. Both he and Arnold Vosloo turned up in TV roles around this time, but I'm surprised that nobody gave either of them a shot as leading men (at least not in Hollywood).
@@Johnny_Socko agreed. I can see him easily jumping to a villainous role in a Bond style movie or even a military action movie quite easily. But aside from Deuce Bigelow and a small run on NCIS O can’t easily say anything else I have seen with him.
That moment near the end, when Anck-su-namun leaves Imhotep and he looks across at O'Connell and Evelyn, makes you kinda sad for him, as he realizes that they have what he never did, which was pure love. Also, I love this movie and it's one of those rare occasions where the sequel is just as good as the first one.
@@THOMMGB At the worst possible time no less, when he's little fighting against being pulled down into the underworld and having seen his rival be saved by his revived wife.
Sure he kills the Pharoh, but in the 1999 Mummy, Imhotep wasn't actually "Evil" he just wanted to be with who he loved. It wasn't until Return that they made him have an even more evil agenda. But yes, it's sad he went through all of this for the woman he loved, but she never loved him. It is sad.
Love that you said the Scorpion King looked 'unnatural'. Usually people say it looks fake, but unnatural is actually a fairer assessment. They didn't have the Rock for reference when they were animating that scorpion which, for the record, is why it looked so 'unnatural'. This was Dwayne Johnson's first film by the way, he was purely a wrestler before it.
@@hellowhat890 I was not aware of that. Saying that I was never a wrestling fan either and, being British, had absolutely no idea who the Rock was before this film came out.
Actually, the director ran out of money before they finished the rendering of the Scorpion King battle, and left it to the producers and directors to decide whether to allocate additional budget to finish the CGI, assuming they would, but they didn’t.
One of the rare few movies where the kid (Freddie Boath) was actually a good addition rather than a constant annoyance. Hard to think it was 22 years since I went to the cinema to see it.
I mean, it still doesn’t change the fact that he constantly makes pretty stupid choices. But in some defense (although it’s not really defense), you can blame that on Rick and Evie being bad parents. Because good parents don’t leave their kids unsupervised.
This is one of those rare sequels where not only is it really good but they bring back familiar beats and the original characters plus expanding the setting and story to a larger exciting scope sort of like Home Alone 2. Rick and Evie are still madly in love and are so badass together equally side by side, we don't get movie couples like that anymore. The amount of times I watched this was insane, this and the first Mummy movie are the only ones that should be acknowledged.
Six good Star Wars movies Five good Star Trek movies Four good D*** movies Three good Terminator movies Two good Mummy movies and One good Highlander movie
Carly sees what are obviously scorpions: "Why do they have to have so many spiders?" Carly sees what are obviously scorpions again: "I feel the worst part about these movies are the creatures...spiders." Carly sees what are obviously beetles from the first movie again: "Oh fetch! Those spiders! I think the one thing I didn't want back in this movie was those dang spiders!" Man, I really hope the University of Saskatchewan considers doing a review of their tenure of Entomology department faculty member, Professor Carly...
I confess I was thinking the exact same thing. However, I didn’t want to be the one to point it out. In Carly’s defense, at least with the scorpions, they are also arachnids.
Imhotep actually manages to convey a bit of pathos right at the end . Arnold Vosloo really did a nice job with just his body language and eyes. The Scorpion King bit is famously crappy CGI but he's largely an irrelevance so it doesn't bother me.
For 22 years, the Scorpion King has been renowned as one of the worst CG effects in cinematic history. And... by God, it's terrible. LOL. PS. Those things weren't spiders, they were scarab beetles.
After all these years, I had forgotten how hilarious that was. Imhotep's reaction absolutely should've been an entirely separate shot. Sometimes I wonder if they kept it as a single shot for the sheer humor of it. 😂
The callback to Jonathan and Evelyn figuring out the stork symbol from first movie was also neat, along with all other callbacks. Personally when i first watched it, i became a fan of that little peregrine falcon that managed to crawl back after being shot and delivered the message to the Medjai! What a hero 👏🏽😅 A good adventure movie, one of my favourites and back in 2001, it was the first time i watched a movie alone in a theatre (back when we didn't have cellphones and me and my buddy ended up watching it two rows apart since we couldn't locate each other before the movie started😅😅)
Minority opinion, I like all three movies, but yes: if the first one is a 10, the second is a 9, and the third... well... not a 9. Strill a fun watch. Excellent reaction as usual, ladies.
I think it's hilarious that they hate the "crashing into each other like a car accident" so much. Usually the only people who hate it are historians, because battles probably never happened like that, ever.
I'd have to disagree. The Spartans were renowned for clashing into, or making a wall to repel attackers. Whom were they repeling or attacking if they were the only ones doing it??? Alternatively, Athenian and others at the time, developed the bow and attacked from afar (something Spartans looked down on). There was a historian/professor on a History Channel (Peter Weller) series (forget his name) who really spoke in a riveting way about how such battles occurred and the different fighting styles based on Era and country/location. Basically, head on collisions (infantry) occurred until the bow. The bow was offset by lancers/chariots/cavalry. Depending on the Era and advancements in technology, you are partly correct, but infantry has always been around ready to have head-on collisions with other infantry. One of the reasons why Kings (and later generals) leas troops into battle and why inspiring speeches were so important and noteworthy in history. Otherwise you think such bolstering by William Wallace was simply a creation of Hollywood???
@@wal6377 the Spartans are described as being disciplined enough to maintain a phalanx while closing the distance and then slowing down to engage in the “pushing”, we don’t know what actually occurred in phalanx combat because the ancient Greeks wrote more about the formations than anything else. The bow existed before the Hellenic Greek city states… as did slings which were used by everyone including Sparta. Charging into people just looks good for Hollywood, same with the speeches. Having a king monologue to about a hundred people out of 30,000 soldiers isn’t going to make a difference.
If you didn't notice when Evelyn fell off the boat , that's what happened to her in the past life as well. Nefertiri inadvertently leaned too far over the edge of the balcony and fell to her death. Despite having perished, Nefertiri's soul was cast adrift into the currents of time to be reborn once fate deemed the time right to revenge herself upon Anck-Su-Namun. This is why Evelyn is a reincarnation.
There is a third movie, which many fans do not like. My philosophy is, any movie with Michelle Yeoh in the cast can't be all bad. Be forewarned, though, they recast Evie. Rachel Weisz isn't in it, so consider that when deciding whether to watch it.
This movie was actually the first movie that the Rock acted in. This actually gave rise to The Scorpion King which is the first movie where the Rock had a lead role and it’s easily my favorite movie with The Rock. You guys must watch it at some point, I think you both will like it.
haha Carly - Stab him in the heart , Cassie - Stab him in the face! the two of you got so into the movie and all the fighting. I really enjoy watching this channel.
This is a great sequel. The Rock animation could have been better but other than that it was great! Luv when Cassie and Carly flinch or get jump scared! Makes it more fun! I hope you watch the 3rd Mummy movie! Rick & Jonathan are back for that one. Had a fun time watching! Luv ya Cassie and Carly PiB 🍿❤💛
Cassie and Carly should have had a great time with this one. Not quite as good as the first one but still fun! Brendan Fraser in his prime and Rachel Wiese right before her Oscar win. Great time with Popcorn in Bed! Super Thanks!
Oh man this was my favorite childhood movie i used to watch this when I was 4 all the time. That scene in the beginning where Rick tears down cobwebs sent the memories flooding back
Love this movie! While the CGI wasn’t great, it was still fun and action-packed, overall a decent movie. And my favourite character is either Ardeth or Jonathan Haven’t seen the other movies, but I’ve heard it goes downhill after the 2nd film
Rachel and Brendan have such good chemistry, romantically and comedically. This is definitely up there on the list where the second movie is better than the first.
If you love Rachel Weisz as Evie, then I totally recommend missing the third Mummy film. While it does have a decent story, there are just too many moments throughout it that make you question the decisions of the entire production team, one being their poor choice in casting. Maria Bello is a great actress, but I don’t think they could have cast anyone worse to play Evie. Rachel Weisz is absolutely adorable in the role, and Maria Bello does not have that special something that Rachel had to help her pull it off. It’s a fun film, but it’s kinda hard to watch at times, my main issue being Maria Bello’s unconvincing performance.
I agree completely with you, but, to me, that just means I won't re-watch the 3rd film. To avoid it altogether is to miss the wonderful bits in it and the continued story of Rick and Evie.
I never have felt this much pity for a Big Bad as I do for Imhotep when he finds out how much he matters to her. That look he gives Rick and Evie... It hurts almost as much as the very primitive CGI. You can skip the third one and the Scorpion King.
To continue on your Brandan Fraser movie quest you NEED to watch “ Encino Man “ also starting Pauly Shore , he plays a caveman another movie you might like is Georgia the jungle with Brandon Frazier. The 3rd movie has a different wife
I am not an entomologist, so things I identified as scarabs and scorpions, Carly called spiders. This is one of the rare sequels that is just as good as the original. I love when you two react together. I'm surprised you did this one in December. Keep up the good work!
Been waiting for this reaction since the first one, I knew you both would love it! And to answer your question, this was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's first movie EVER, followed up immediately by The Scorpion King, his first lead role ever. These two films instantly made him the next top leading man in Hollywood, especially The Scorpion King, which came out in 2002, the year after The Mummy Returns. I would highly recommend that one for you to review as well, very similar vibes to The Mummy films, and the launching of Johnson's Hollywood career out of the WWE.
As crappy as the CGI on The Scorpion King was, I love the fight between Rick and Imhotep, as well as the one between Evy and Ankhsunamun. Autism fueled observation/side notes: 1, That snake that Evelyn kicked towards Rick is actually a milksnake. You can tell by the band pattern (red, black, yellow). If the band sequence was red, yellow, black, they'd have something to worry about, because that's the band pattern of the venomous coral snake. Also, real scarabs were actually just dung beetles, who actually lay their eggs in balls of giraffe, elephant and rhinoceros dung. 2. When Jonathan says "Hang on, Rick!!", My first response everytime is "I don't think he was planning to let go" In the first movie: 3, After Evy unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading the Book Of The Dead. and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. 4. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster, but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move.
I also love how little Evie had to read from the book to wake Imotep the first time, but how much they had to read from the book to wake him the second time.
@@LucianDevine It was also kind of hilarious and cute how their son Alex had equal parts of his parents' personalities. Rick's bravery and smart mouth and Evelyn's brains and comprehension of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
@@Rainbow.Pegacorn.Cosplay Oh for sure, but as brave as they made him be, they had him naturally be afraid when it made sense, instead of somehow remaining stoic in the face of something he could NEVER have expected to see in that moment.
THEY'RE NOT SPIDERS! 🕷 The ones from the first movie that get under your skin are Scarab beetles and the ones in this movie you saw were scorpions, hence, the Scorpion King. Yes, there were a couple of spiders mixed in, but please understand, not everything that moves is a spider 🙄. It's not an owl, it's a falcon. Squeeze the trigger to maintain a steady aim,if you pull it,there's a chance the barrel will jump slightly and you'll miss your target. Funny when you said Rick was giving you Tarzan vibes, since he also played George of the Jungle in the film adaptation of the cartoon that parodies Tarzan (full circle). You'll like the Magii guy in the Resident Evil franchise. Anyway, loved the review, love you guys, take care and stay safe ❤️
Now that's how you do a sequel to a cinematic masterpiece! I can't think of ANY original/sequel combination where the story, thrill and characters are so pefectly expanded upon. The Mummy is 10/10 in my book, while the sequel might be a 9.5/10, but since it's such a good matchup, we might as well slap them together in combo viewing experience and round that number to a 10/10 again.
Oded Fehr rocked the role of the Magi. Still one of my favorite actors ever! If you want to see him again, you should watch Covert Affairs. He plays an Isreali Spy and is so captivating!❤❤
As a straight man, I think Oded is a very handsome guy. There's a fun scene in Covert Affairs where he and Piper Perabo are both trying to seduce the same person for their respective spy agencies, and are immediately outed as spies because the victim realises that no-one is lucky enough to have TWO people that good-looking interested in them simultaneously.
He’s also in the Resident Evil movies as Carlos. He’s definitely a highlight though his character isn’t really dimensional. He has a nice charm to him.
So not sure if anyone told you or you figured it out later, but just in case.. The "dog" at the beginning was actually Anubis, the Egyptian god, and he's actually a jackal specifically (though they are still members of the dog family and there are Jackal hybrids even today.)
"squeeze the trigger don't pull it" is common advice given to new shooters. It is especially important on longer range shots to minimize the movement of the gun barrel. When doing a long range shot holding your breath or squeezing the trigger on a exhale gives you a steady aim as opposed to slapping the trigger with a quick motion which tends to give your hand and the gun a slight jerk.
It’s funny you mentioned Brendan Fraser as Tarzan, because that’s exactly who he is in George of the Jungle, please watch that! I love to see you react to all of Fraser’s movies, please! Also, you must do Bedazzled as well!
Two armies crashing into one another was how fighting was done (and still would be, if not for guns). It's not like only some people did it and some people didn't. :)

39:35 The Rock CGi is infamously bad and mocked by people for the past 20 years. Even back then it was deemed like one of the worst CGI work. NOW, it was'nt cause the team working on it was incompetent or din't have much funding, it was just cause they had only 2-3 weeks to work on it before the movie release. It was First planned that The Rock Himself was in this part of the movie, with a Scorpion like armor on him and he would fight O'Connel and Imothep in a 3 way fight. BUT Jonhson's schedule at the time din't allow for him to come and shoot the scenes, and since the movie's release date was Hardlocked by the Studio, they simply did not have the time to put it on hold and reschedule. So they made the decision to have a CGI monster that is an Hybrid between Human and Scorpion, and they also couldn't ask for Dwayne to fly in and do facial scans, cause once again, no time on his schedule. So they had to work with Scans they had from videos of the Rock's WWE matches AND some scans he did for a WWE videogame a bit before. And off course those scans where of the lower end of quality, and they had like 2 weeks left to make this full like 10-12min segment of the movie's Climax wich meant they worked overtime to met deadlines. So, the quality of the end product is on par with the circumstances.
First time I saw the scene where the Madjai think they have just killed the last Anubis dog-soldier, then they turn around and the whole horizon is covered with Anubis' entire army, I felt the dread and dismay on the faces of the Madjai. But then Ardeth Bay raises his sword and shouts "until death" and the remaining Madjai raise their swords and answer with a cheer. I actually felt so proud and moved by their bravery and defiance in the face of certain defeat that my eyes filled with tears.
Hey y'all! Most of this movie I really liked, though the first will always be my Favorite. I love the Past life flashbacks that Evie was having, it gave much more insight to her character and sort of what lead up to the Pharoah's being killed. I've always had an interest in Egyptology, these 2 movies were so enjoyable. Though it is a shame the CGI for DJ when he was half Scorpion wasn't better. But it is what it is. The weird little creatures in the Oasis were- Pygmy Mummies and were only there to kill intruders to tried venturing into the area. Enjoyed watching! 😊
30:22 When shooting a gun, you want a smooth, steady motion on the trigger when firing a shot. "Pulling" the trigger can actually jerk the gun off target. A slow squeezing of the trigger helps keep the gun from moving too much.

Evie's death is absolutely CRUSHING. You see it's effect on Rick right up until he sees her alive again. Then you also see how he responds to seeing her again. You can literally see the burst of adrenaline surge through him as he recovers from being knocked down and worn out.
Yep. It destroyed me back then.
@@DavidArriola Rightfully so, and how'd you feel when you saw her catch Anck Su Namun's arm?
There's an outtake from that scene on the DVD. It was either spontaneous, or Patricia Velasquez botched the stabbing motion, but right as Rachel sinks to her knees after having been "stabbed," she BURSTS out laughing.
Shortly after Rick tells her their son is becoming more like her every day comes the scene where all of the pillars domino into each other one after another. This scene is a direct call back to the first movie when his mother knocked over all of the bookcases at the museum in the same way.
There’s a few more references like that throughout the movie
Apparently one of the notes the directors got at a viewing was that when evie died, you could still see her pulse in her neck. His reply was that he doubted Rachel was OK with being killed for real.

Wiser....
Note to self: Wise parents don't ever get their kids involved in extremely dangerous journeys.
I would have saved the kid for a third movie and made the second movie set only a few years after the first.
I 100% agree. Even Evie's job situation has evolved, with the people who rejected her application before now begging her to work for them. They said she'd lacked field work, and based on how she handles the snake in the intro, we know she's had plenty of field work in the past 9 years.
No that would be T2. The cartoonish Rock/Scorpion King keeps this from being better than it could have been.
I guess in your world perfect has a different meaning than everyone else.
There is a quite credible theory that Jonathan served in the British army in World War I, and a good deal of his presented personality is a reaction to the horrors of that war. It would certainly explain how good he was with that rifle.
And his “antics” in the first combined then with the wealth induced increase would lend credence to this
Those who return from such horrors manifest things in different ways…some try to outrun them, some succumb, some confront, others like Jonathan deflect
"Have you no respect for the dead?"

Patricia Velazquez and Oded Fehr being back for the sequel is a very nice touch. Well done.

Oded Fehr is really underrated. I feel like they missed out having him carry some movies during this era.
Yup, and Rick even told Evie not to, but she came anyway. Then Imotep begged for help, but Anck-su-namun ran away.
The worst part was that Imhotep truly believed that Anck-su-namun was the love of this life. It's soul crushing to find out otherwise.

He also appeared in a cameo one year prior to this film in one episode of Star Trek: Voyager too.
I meant “producers and investors” above, but the edit button didn’t work …
Hang on Jabroni. The Rock wasn't a pure wrestler back then. He was the most electrifying, pie eating, people's champion back in 2001.
One of the rare few movies where the kid (Freddie Boath) was actually a good addition rather than a constant annoyance.

I think it was, because he acted like a kid, not like a small adult and knows-it-all.
@@wandelndeslexikon1614Plus they be didn’t put more focus on the kid than needed. It was just well balanced as a movie in general
I mean, it still doesn’t change the fact that he constantly makes pretty stupid choices. But in some defense (although it’s not really defense), you can blame that on Rick and Evie being bad parents. Because good parents don’t leave their kids unsupervised.
@wandelndeslexikon1614 He wasnt too far either way. Not way too smart and annoying and not buffonishly stupid for "look, he's a kid" moments
Brendan Fraser is a gift and a treasure
This is one of those rare sequels where not only is it really good but they bring back familiar beats and the original characters plus expanding the setting and story to a larger exciting scope sort of like Home Alone 2. Personally when i first watched it, i became a fan of that little peregrine falcon that managed to crawl back after being shot and delivered the message to the Medjai! What a hero 👏🏽😅
A good adventure movie, one of my favourites and back in 2001, it was the first time i watched a movie alone in a theatre (back when we didn't have cellphones and me and my buddy ended up watching it two rows apart since we couldn't locate each other before the movie started😅😅)

Rachel and Brendan have such good chemistry, romantically and comedically. This is definitely up there on the list where the second movie is better than the first.
With Honors, with Brendan Fraser, Joe Pesci, Patrick Dempsey, is a movie I think you both would enjoy. 👍🏼
School Ties is another good Brendon Fraser movie as well.
I totally agree. With Honors is a really good movie - Pesci and Fraser are amazing in it. They would love it.
Her lack of chemistry with Frasier is also pretty obvious. Weiss and him had incredible chemistry on screen.
I never have felt this much pity for a Big Bad as I do for Imhotep when he finds out how much he matters to her. That look he gives Rick and Evie... It hurts almost as much as the very primitive CGI.
You can skip the third one and the Scorpion King.
Nah, The Scorpion King is a fun action movie. It just does not live up to the Mummy movies.

Autism fueled observation/side notes:
1, That snake that Evelyn kicked towards Rick is actually a milksnake.
2. When Jonathan says "Hang on, Rick!!", My first response everytime is "I don't think he was planning to let go"
In the first movie:
3, After Evy unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading the Book Of The Dead. and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish.

Alan Silvestri wrote an incredible score (orchestrated music) to this film.
Oded Fehr rocked the role of the Magi. Still one of my favorite actors ever! If you want to see him again, you should watch Covert Affairs. He plays an Isreali Spy and is so captivating!❤❤
They should check out Deuce Bigalow lol.
I agree I wish he was in more films.
