Cassie, I am so glad you reviewed this movie! I was actually a Zombie extra in the amusement park scene later on. That was one of the coolest things I have ever gotten to do. Fun fact: Those scenes were not filmed in Alberta but they were in Valdosta, Georgia. Enjoy, everyone!
Zombieland is one of my ALL-TIME favorite movies. Considering the cast... I'm always surprised that people are "SURPRISED" at how good this movie is. Glad you gave it a chance.
This movie was actually originally intended to be a TV show. That's why they have elements like "Zombie kill of the Week" in it. I think this would have gotten old as a TV show, but works very well as a movie.
Between 1 and 2 they did a pilot with a different cast for some streaming platform... and it didn't get made because they picked a political sit-com from the guy that did Dunesberry.
Someone needs to start a "Who's so and so" list for her reactions, lol. Between "Who's Van Halen?" and "Who's He-Man?" (from her Ghostbusters 2 reaction)... I feel like there have been a lot more of these that would hurt my vintage 1980's heart. 🤣
I love how Cassie’s become that “group project” friend where everyone tries to desensitise them to horror/gore 😂 Was Warm Bodies on the horror lite list? I feel that’s a zombie flick Cassie would like.
The opening credits with Mettalica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" has to be one of the best openers. Cass, your astonishment at the gore and kills is always entertaining lmao
Funny thing about Woody Harrelson, when he played on Cheers ('80's sitcom) his character actually said that Snoballs were the best and proceeded to put a whole one in his mouth. I've always wondered if his character hating Snoballs in this movie was a node at that.
This movie reminds me of Shaun of the Dead That's how good the first zombieland is same for the second one when we had to wait 10 years for it to come out still a really good sequel for what it was! ❤️
The scene where Columbus realizes that Buck was not a puppy but a little boy was so surprisingly moving for a film like this. Marvelously played by Woody Harrelson.
In 2002 I saw Woody Harrelson in London, and he refused to give me his autograph. 😕During his 2-month stay in London he wore a motorcycle helmet every day so photographers couldn't take pictures of him. 😂
11:33 Abigail Breslin. I first saw her when she played Mel Gibson's daughter in signs. The kid with the fixation on her water being contaminated. She's also in the excellent little miss sunshine and underrated movie Keane.
I like the Frighteners but feel it is not for Cassie. She should seriously take a gummy before watching that. Not my fave MJ Fox film but not the worst, that would be Bright Lights.
This/Tucker and Dale are so good!!!! 32:06 - Enjoy the little things! You will understand this the older you get! No matter what others say or don't say about your 'little things'. They don't hurt anyone, it is just a Twinkie or Lego or Drumming or whatever!!

This movie is like a concert. High Energy from the beginning to the end, with a bit of relax in the middle. One of my favorites for this season. Is fun as hell.
Fun Fact: Patrick Swayze was offered a cameo role as a zombie before his cancer diagnosis. His scene would have parodied other Patrick Swayze movies like "Ghost" and "Dirty Dancing". Zombie cameo roles were also offered to Joe Pesci, Mark Hamill, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Bacon, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Matthew McConaughey. Also, Zombieland is a love letter to zombie movies. It embraces the fandom around it along with the troupes and "rules" of the genre. It's the zombie equivalent to the original "Scream".

Cassie, I was excited to see that you got to see this movie tonight. Its a special movie for me but for a weird reason. When it was in theatres I was on vacation and we had a rainy day so outdoor plans for the day were ruined. The group I was with went to the local theatre. Everyone we were with decided to see Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs except for my Uncle and I. We picked this movie. We both loved it!!! The other group was not so impressed with the other movie. My Uncle passed away of cancer not terribly long after that and I think about him every time I watch this movie and the fun we had that afternoon. Fyi, I know you love Harrison Ford movies and I recommend Six days Seven Nights. Its got a Sabrina feel that I know you'd like.
I like when Talahasee hits Columbus for spraying him with cologne, Columbus staggers and hits the display table. Wichita looks up, and Talahasee quickly smashes another souvenir to save face for Columbus, revealing his soft heart.
23:16: Technically, proper shooting is done with both eyes open for depth perception. Personally, I find closing my non-dominant eye works a lot better, but that might be a "to each their own" thing.
"I avoided people like they were zombies before they were zombies. And now that they're zombies, I kinda miss people." That hits differently during and after 2020.
I dunno about you, but nothing changed for me during the pandemic. I stayed home most of the time, I went to work every day since they refused to go work from home, I ventured out to the grocery store every couple weeks to scavenge for something edible... Nothing has changed since then either, I just spend even more time alone at home. It's relaxing, and when I need human interaction, I can go on social media and talk to my friends. People who need more than that are weird.
This movie was one of the rare awesome surprises of a finding a movie I had never heard of and loving it. I watch so many movies that between previews, commercials, and online trailers there has only been a handful of movies that I knew nothing about and ended up loving.
Best thing about growing up in my household is that we've never had any kind of entertainment that includes commercials for as long as I can remember. All of our streaming services have always been commercial free, ad block on all the phones and laptops, commercial free music, etc. And anything that does have built in or unskippable ads, neither me nor my dad would ever use. I have to go out of my way to see trailers for movies, and because of that, if we go to see a movie, I'm almost always going in blind. It's nice not to be spoiled by trailers and commercials.
"What did I just watch and why did I like it?" My sentiments exactly. I think it had as much to do with Cassie's commentary and reactions as it did with the movie.
I remember renting this back right after it was out of theaters and I also wasn't expecting much. I loved it. The gore was meant to be comedy-gore, the characters were great, and it has great heart.
The Frighteners is a forgotten gem. Probably industry ego held this one back. Another forgotten gem is Frailty. Both are movies that just disappeared that I loved when I first saw them. This is just in my era. There are generations of movies like this.
I 100% agree with you waiting 10 years for the sequel was worth it still a good sequel not as good as I thought it would be for the sequel but I saw both movies in theater the first one and the second one totally worth it no matter what bottom all day one on 4K disc for my movie collection this movie reminds me for the first one of Shaun of the Dead like a cult classic❤
The first one may be the best but the sequel was still a blast and it was so great seeing this cast/characters back together on the big screen. A worthy sequel and a good time even if the first is better
Also for horror movies, watch "The Mist". It has the single most shocking ending in cinema history (along with an amazing soundtrack), so much so that Stephen King (the author of the book which the movie is based on) wished he thought up of the ending himself.
Eddie Van Halen was the lead of the band Van Halen. Even if you can't think of any of their songs, I know you know at least one. "Might as well jump! JUMP!" Ironically, he's a zombie now. Died in 2020 of a stroke.
"Dawn of the Dead" George Romero and the remake by Zack Snyder. Both are very good movies. "Warm Bodies" might be an easier film to take. It's cute and doesn't have as much gore. There are tons more. George Romero is a legend
I've warmed up more to the original in recent years, but I LOVE the 2004 remake. The cool thing is, you can watch both, and you're not really spoiling anything.
Cassie: “Who’s Van Halen?” Tallahassee: “Hey, I’ve never hit a reactor before…..” Someone doesn’t know who Eddie Van Halen is. I am officially old now.
@@dukenukem-c2e I was born in the 80's. I have no idea how she could possibly not know who Van Halen is. She's so sheltered, she's like a 13yr old in an adults body.
@@dukenukem-c2e Even if she wasn't I can't imagine she was born too long after. So the fact that she doesn't even recognize the name Van Halen absolutely blows my mind. Literally one of the most famous rock bands of all time. I just can't fathom how she's lived somewhere around 3 decades without ever even hearing the name mentioned before somewhere.
I had to laugh when you said, "I haven't had a Twinkie in 20 years and now I want a Twinkie." I used to work as non-union, behind the scenes jobs and one of those was securing product placement in movies. Your response to that Twinkie, made me realize that what I did, worked. LOL
I also love this movie as well as Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. Once you've seen enough horror movies to know many of the tropes you need to watch Cabin In the Woods; it also has a lot of gore and jumps, but it is also extremely funny - but in a much more subtle way. If you don't know the tropes you won't find it very funny 😁
20:55 What? Eddie Van Halen recently passed away, he was the guitarist in the band "Van Halen". He was well known for shreading and playing with odd objects like a power drill ... cough ... and other things 😂
One of the great Horror/Comedies ever. The sequel was also good. I'd also highly recommend a movie in your poll, "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" as it is also a Horror/Comedy that is so worth your time. It is an underrated gem and one you will love.
23:17 Closing an eye may be advantageous if you're doing range/competition/precision shooting; in a zombie apocalypse (or in the army, police or for self defense), it may cost you situational awareness. Probably worth teaching both eyes open in this case.
Not even through the opening credits and I can already tell this is going to have a lasting effect on ya. As for The Frighteners, it is nowhere near as scary/gross. It is more light hearted and has more of a mystery aspect to it which I LOVED (and put up a video on a while back). I really love October for Reactions. So many of my favorites showing up on these channels. Some from back in my childhood (80s horror) mixed with lots of newer stuff which has had traction recently.
I got a suggestion that will be perfect for you this Halloween season. Check out "Warm Bodies" from 2013. Another zombie movie with a rom-com twist, partially told from the Zombie's perspective.
20:57 Eddie Van Halen was the lead guitarist in the rock band Van Halen. If you’ve ever heard the songs “Hot for teacher”, “Panama”, “Eruption”, “Dance the Night Away”, “Jamie’s Cryin’”, or others, then you know Eddie’s work. He was one of the best guitarists of all time.
I live in the Dallas area, and I remember seeing this at midnight the day it was released and the biggest laugh in the theater was “That’s actually just Garland.”
Oh yeah Cassie, when it comes to the sequel, zombie land Double tap,,,, I forgot to tell you that Barbie is in that movie. Now her name isn't Barbie, I forgot her name but the character That's just like Barbie is in the movie
Part 2 is as good or even better imho. There's a new character named Madison that steals every scene she's in. Its just weird seeing a 20 something "Little Rock" lol.
Opening scene : "This is Garland, Texas...." I grew up in Garland, Texas. When he said that, the entire theater busted out laughing. It's true....Garland is pretty empty and quiet. It's a weirdly empty middle-class/lower-middle class suburb of Dallas. In the late 80s and 90s, it was safe, humble, and quiet. Great place to grow up.
The fact I found out my son and daughter (8 & 3 then) had watched it after she screamed "WHERE'S THE FUGGING TWINKIES?" at our local grocery store just gives it an extra special place in my heart. She 100% yelled the R-Rated version btw. 14 now and still starts grinning anytime we pass the snack cake section of a store. Also, refuses all Hostess products that aren't twinkies to this day.
"You got a pretty mouth" is a quote from the movie Deliverance. So is the banjo. I recommend you do NOT watch Deliverance. Not that scary, as you jump every time there's a jump scare. Eddie Van Halen was the greatest guitar player ever and formed Van Halen with his brother Alex, Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth. He passed away in October of 2020. Watch a video titled Eruption and you'll learn who Eddie was.
Zombie movies that are really good are highly underrated. Most people think its just blood/gore and violence. But the real deep ones reflect on life and who they are as person. Its take the end of world and having no where to run or hide to face themselves. Unlike other horror movies its a waiting game and the monster isn't chasing all the time. Its great and tragic because some reveal that they would be selfish and cold hearted at the end while in normal life they may be opposite happy caring people. And others who have not been good people or made mistakes are willing to self sacrifice and do the right thing when it matters most.
Who else remembers a movie called “Saturday the 14th”? A genera spoof starring Richard Benjamin. I remember liking it as a kid, but I don’t remember too much of it.
When you said, "Who's Eddie Van Halen", it made me feel like Woody when she didn't know who Bill Murray was. 😆😆😆

Tucker and Dale vs Evil is the most wholesome horror movie ever made. You need to watch it ❤

There is gore, but not scary gore, like the gore in this movie.
Yeah also evil dead
Absolutely. It’s gruesome and wholesome at the same time, somehow.
True true.
"Take away a man's son you've truly given him nothing left to lose." That hit me hard.
Zombieland has one of the coolest opening credits scene ever made. The slo-mo with Metallica is just awesome.

Yes the opening credits to this movie are epic.
The younger girl was played by Abigail Breslin. You might remember her for her brilliant portrayal of Olive in "Little Miss Sunshine" from 2006.

The Frighteners is a forgotten gem. Probably industry ego held this one back. Another forgotten gem is Frailty. Both are movies that just disappeared that I loved when I first saw them. This is just in my era. There are generations of movies like this.
This movie is just one hell of a good time. Adorable cast + zombies with a slight mix of Bill Murray is just pure win.
Glad you liked it, and you're really lucky, you don't have to wait TEN YEARS to get a sequel like we did, haha.
They're planning to do a sequel every 10 years, so still 6 to go for the next one
Also for horror movies, watch "The Mist". It has the single most shocking ending in cinema history (along with an amazing soundtrack), so much so that Stephen King (the author of the book which the movie is based on) wished he thought up of the ending himself.
Can confirm, absolutely the most fucked up ending I have ever seen to all degrees.
That ending, holy shit. Horribly heart breaking and, in a sense of my twisted black humor, very funny. 😅 If only he had waited a one single minute...
Eddie Van Halen was the lead of the band Van Halen. Even if you can't think of any of their songs, I know you know at least one.
"Might as well jump! JUMP!"
Ironically, he's a zombie now.
Agreed

i would recommend The Lost boys (1987) it was scary when it came out, but now it is pretty light and funny. One of my favourite movies of all time.
Cassie: “Who’s Van Halen?”
Tallahassee: “Hey, I’ve never hit a reactor before…..”
Someone doesn’t know who Eddie Van Halen is. I am officially old now.
😂 ya. Was she born in 80s? Then she might not know
She probably barely remembers Nirvana.
I was wondering why there weren’t more comments about that line
@@dukenukem-c2e I was born in the 80's. I have no idea how she could possibly not know who Van Halen is. She's so sheltered, she's like a 13yr old in an adults body.
@@dukenukem-c2e Even if she wasn't I can't imagine she was born too long after. So the fact that she doesn't even recognize the name Van Halen absolutely blows my mind. Literally one of the most famous rock bands of all time. I just can't fathom how she's lived somewhere around 3 decades without ever even hearing the name mentioned before somewhere.
I had to laugh when you said, "I haven't had a Twinkie in 20 years and now I want a Twinkie."
I used to work as non-union, behind the scenes jobs and one of those was securing product placement in movies.
He was well known for shreading and playing with odd objects like a power drill ... cough ... and other things 😂
another absolutely adorable but (in this case) underappreciated zombie movie is warm bodies. you should definitely check that one out, it's cute
Your hubby's a lucky guy. You have so much empathy.
I saw this in theaters, and actually started crying from laughter when they killed Bill Murray. Such a funny cameo.
I got a suggestion that will be perfect for you this Halloween season. Check out "Warm Bodies" from 2013. Another zombie movie with a rom-com twist, partially told from the Zombie's perspective.
good movie.
Really good movie. Malkovich is great in it. Really fun twist on zombie films actually.
Tucker and dale vs evil is the GOAT of horror love movies. Warm bodies is also a good love zombie move
It was so fun watching you enjoy this movie, Cassie! 😁
Saw this at a midnight showing at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax in 2009. Loved it.
How on Earth can anyone in America who is in their 30's not know who Van Halen is?!!!
I kind of forgot how violent this movie is lol whenever I think about it I just remember the comedy stuff
Return of the Living Dead is pretty funny too.
Oh yeah Cassie, when it comes to the sequel, zombie land Double tap,,,, I forgot to tell you that Barbie is in that movie. Now her name isn't Barbie, I forgot her name but the character That's just like Barbie is in the movie
An awesome movie...Never gets old.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil is high art. We enjoyed your Charlie's Angels pose from the haunted house jump scare
I want to thank whoever wrote "Little Rock explains Hannah Montana to Tallahassee"
Ernest Scared Stupid is a Halloween staple.
Part 2 is as good or even better imho. There's a new character named Madison that steals every scene she's in. Its just weird seeing a 20 something "Little Rock" lol.
It was utterly bizarre to suddenly see little miss sunshine with giant boobs.
I have never felt so conflicted by the presence of boobs.
Opening scene : "This is Garland, Texas...."
I grew up in Garland, Texas. When he said that, the entire theater busted out laughing.
It's true....Garland is pretty empty and quiet. It's a weirdly empty middle-class/lower-middle class suburb of Dallas. In the late 80s and 90s, it was safe, humble, and quiet. Great place to grow up.
Honestly the BEST horror-comedy ever imho. Doesn't hurt that all 4 actors have amazing talent (3 Academy Award nominees and 1 winner) and chemistry.
😮💨 please.
Shawn of the Dead.
@calvinjohnstone2664 you beat me to it. I agree
Agree, either this or Shaun of the dead
I AGREE 100 PERCENT THE BEST HORROR COMEDY EVER ESPECIALLY THE CARNIVAL SCENES WHERE AWESOME.
Who's Eddie Van Halen!?
Zombie movies that are really good are highly underrated. Most people think its just blood/gore and violence. But the real deep ones reflect on life and who they are as person. Its take the end of world and having no where to run or hide to face themselves. Unlike other horror movies its a waiting game and the monster isn't chasing all the time. Its great and tragic because some reveal that they would be selfish and cold hearted at the end while in normal life they may be opposite happy caring people. And others who have not been good people or made mistakes are willing to self sacrifice and do the right thing when it matters most.
I love this film, there is a sequel Zombieland: DoubleTap - in my opinion it is an excellent second film, and a great way to end things.
It's as much fun, if not more, than the first!
Who else remembers a movie called “Saturday the 14th”? A genera spoof starring Richard Benjamin. I remember liking it as a kid, but I don’t remember too much of it.
