You actually don’t need bleach to do this. You can just drop water on your paintings and let it sit and you’ll get the same effect more or less dependent on how long you leave each water pile/drop sitting

Very nice effects. Bleach is corrosive though and will break down and weaken the substrate fibers over time. Bleach pens have a gel consistency if you want more control. Rit makes a ColorRemover that is supposed to be less damaging to fibers. It has a slightly different effect on colors and a little more working time.
Thanks for Sharing that Diana. i didn't know that after it dries it still breaks down the paper fibers... I just heard of this bleach pen. I'm intrigued. thanks for sharing your knowledge!
@@winterprism9227 My issue with bleach being used in this manner is that it isn't being thoroughly removed (completely rinsed away or chemically deactivated) after the bleaching effect is achieved. Changes in humidity might reactivate the bleach, etc. But that reaction at application does weaken those particular fibers more. In the case of textiles, that is where the cloth is weakest, areas of repeated bleaching--the fabric feel coarse and stiff and later cracks and crumbles. Probably in an art journal it doesn't truly matter. Lately I have been making all sorts of nonarchival artwork just for the process and practice. With works for sale, I'd stick to high quality archival artist's tools or sell with the caveat that the work may fade or somehow change in the future.
I’ve done something similar with fabric. I did have to neutralize the bleach after applying, because bleach tends to keep bleaching. Maybe not so much with paper? I found gel dishwasher detergent. This was used with the older dishwashers, but may still be available. This causes the bleach to be thicker, a bit easier to manipulate.

Awesome video Keren! ❤️🙂 I love experimenting, this is something I will definitely be trying. I have a pack of bright colored and some leftover black paper. Speaking of experiments, one of my favorites was also the messiest and reqired gloves. I added shimmering ink (liquid watercolor works too) to an almost empty bottle of foaming soap, plopped globs of bubbly foam onto a tiny piece of yupo and allowed it to dry overnight. You could see where the tiny bubbles were when they popped. I have plans to but a bubble maker that doesn't needs blown (to prevent paint on the face) to try it with larger bubbles.

On my son's first day of 4th grade his teacher Mr. F. Gave each kid black paper, a tiny bit of bleach in a cup and one q tip. Their first assignment was to write their name. It was awesome. Science lesson.
@@KerenTamir We also used those clorox bleach pens and did doodle art with them, as well as some watercolor brushes that held water in the handle/body of the brush and instead put bleach in them. The students didn’t get as much detail with them but they made for exciting value effects! If you do fabric, be sure to neutralize it with baking soda/water when you’re done or the bleach might compromise it. It was fun trying all sorts of objects like the teeth of a comb, lace, string, doilies, anything that would hold the bleach long enough to get it to the ‘substrate’.
Doesn’t the paper degrade where the bleach falls on it ? Or does it stop as soon as you dry it with a paper towel?
