Picking and choosing elements to create a vision is what an artist does. How you pick and saw logs is discovery art. Assembling your floor makes it a work of art.
Looking great. Can't wait to see the finished product. I am sooo glad that you are the professional that you are and are NOT leaving the areas below cabinets etc without the flooring. I hate when contractors try to get away without covering the whole floor with the product.
That is old world craftsmanship. Matt is easily one of my favorite content creators. Appreciate all the effort that he puts into both his woodworking, but also the video quality. Super good.
Watching this was pure enjoyment. I am not sure of what process you have planned for the future but thought that any sawdust from sanding mixed with glue will fill in the little gaps? One other thing I want to say. Lindsay must be very proud of you.
The nice thing about the small imperfections on the floor is that very few people move with an eye level of 1 to 2 feet above them.Good work. Steep learning curve. I look forward to the sequel.
Your flooring is absolutly beautiful, I'm glad I watched it because you talked me out of trying to make my own flooring. I don't have your kind of patience.
My knees are killing me watching you. My wife and I did 3500 sqft in our house over 25 years ago. My knees never recovered fully. Really stellar work Matt.
Knee pads are a thing these days,My first job out of high school was with a flooring contractor doing vinyl flooring and he was the only case of house maids knee I ever saw.
Whoo... went from a cute little spider on the lens to as frustrated as I've ever seen him, which is like 'grumpy-level.' Very good instructional video, Matt. thanks.
Twenty years ago I installed the wood floors in our house. Very hard on the knees but it was such fun selecting and arranging the boards to achieve the desired outcome. Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
So glad to see you back on the home remodel! I sure miss you and Donovan working together on it. You guys are going to have a beautiful home in the end and look can be proud of your craftsmanship on display every day. 👍👍
I feel for you! I used to sell shop equipment and very few makers actually were true in performance. It is a real pill to learn how to get some accurate. Some never get there! Large volume production always seems to need filling. It is looking really good. Finishing will astound you!
Yes, that's been something all along! Most people couldn't do the video and editing, Drone shots, "camera falls", point of view, close-ups, pans, scenics .....
Only 4 minutes in and impressed with the detail you are thinking about. That must be a furniture maker thing. Most people (myself included) I think would pretty much slap it down and call it good (with a few tweaks). Time to continue. 🙂
Matt you have to use $1 bootie mitts for your shoes when you do adhesives. etc. It allows you to walk away (bathroom) and keep Okay shoes Okay. The nurses know what they are.
An auxiliary fence on the infeed side would cure pretty much all your issues. Also leaving the material wide enough to allow “jointing” of the right side on the first cutter. Few things I’ve picked up since owning my 260.
From watching you cut these flooring pieces, to selecting the ones you wanted to use for this large combo rooms. Then the milling with your new machine has been pure excitement for you Matt. But the actual laying of the floor, and how careful you are with each piece, is pure enjoyment. Your love of this White Oak is seen with every selection. Sorry there is more imperfections on some pieces, but you fix it and now you are almost there. Amazingly beautiful. Your work is phenomenal. Thanks for showing us all.😊
Looks good dude! not many folks have your talent or patience for that matter. You always seem to have foresight into any project you are partaking. overall great. can't wait to see it finished!
I've been waiting on video of THIS project. Your ambitious home renovation is incredibly fun to watch... and you make it educational too. Thanks for sharing this journey with us.
Your patience is breath taking. But, doing a great job is rewarding. It's obvious, I lack in that department. Furthermore, I would hire this done, lol. Thanks for sharing
*** FINALLY ***. :). White oak makes the most beautiful and long lasting floor - even the lower grades of white oak create an amazing floor. Great job.
Welcome to hardwood flooring, the wider the boards the more chances of inconsistency and there’s always a few. Sanding and filling usually solves the smallest gaps? My parents had and still have hardwood flooring that’s 70 years old, sanded and refinished 3 times while raising 6 kids. The older wood definitely stands up to abuse but all hardwood requires maintenance and or sanding in it’s life time but it will give a feeling of warmth and class to every room!
That white oak is gorgeous! You'll be happy to know that "expanding and contracting with the seasons" doesn't happen to any significant extent in modern climate-controlled homes.
Great attention to detail Matt very tricky with the dimensional variations. The floor will look stunning once sanded and coated. The average flooring installer would never take that much care.
Thank you, This was very inspiring. I would recommend you to use the knee protectors ALL the time. I have done this kind of work for a long time, and can assure you that when your knee hurts, it is already too late. Wear and tear on your knee is usually irreversible. Very frustrating if you find out too late. Not meant to criticize you though, just a warning from an elder in this field.
Matt, don’t be too hard on your manufacturing. You should have seen the load of crap I got from “Saving big money” at a famous big box store…supposedly from a reputable manufacturer. Your flooring and attention to detail and aesthetics is outstanding!
I installed cheap flooring from lumber liquidators, and it had a similar amount of milling defects. Good to know it has the same quality as some guy making it in his garage, running a machine for the first time ever. It was prefinished, so I had even fewer options to correct the defects. I probably should have returned it.
Matt nice work I can tell your install is more professional than some installer that does it for a living I use to work construction and you would not believe how many time I heard ha the wood potty and sanding will take care of it or ha chalking is made to fill in the voids only perfectionist take pride in there work and they more and more rare have a great day
Not enough full time floor installers care about the selection of individual boards to create a pleasing pattern. Even on a multi million dollar house, the floor subcontractor just pulled the boards directly from the pack and stapled them down, only concerned with speed. I put down the next one myself in rustic maple and laid out the whole floor before starting the install. The result was far better. Taking the extra time getting ready for the install pays off. Great work Matt.
Sorry to see and hear about the shaper problems!! Very good video on laying floor, especialy if you preped all the wood yourself from scratch (a log….haha)! Again, that is one fantastic looking floor you made yourself there Matt!
I did my own kitchen remodel 15 years ago… I thought I would save money building my own cabinets. But, wound up spending twice as much and needed to buy more tools and better tools… still, I don’t regret my long hours… pride in workmanship is worth more than a few thousand bucks.
I am sure your frustrated with the defects caused by that milling machine, but once its all done, filled ,sanded and finished those memories will disappear! great work! good wood choice too!
Looks great. You notice any tiny imperfection but most people won't see them unless you point it out. And Luke a guy I worked with years ago used to say " in a 100 years nobody will notice". You are doing a great job cut yourself some slack.
Good to see the progress of the flooring being installed. I really do suggest that you invest in a pair of knee pads. As someone that spent some time on my knees when I was younger now in my elder years and having some pain in the knees and difficulty when I still need to get on my knees the pads do help and ease the pain.
Looking good Matt! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 .... I think that even if there were absolutely zero imperfections, you'd still be putting the floor down through the entire video anyway..... 😉
When I was a kid, you could pick out the guys who laid flooring by their clothes. Most of them favored hickory striped coveralls with deep cuffs on the legs. They would fill those cuffs with nails so that they would not have to straighten up to get a nail. Some of them liked blue coveralls, but you get the drift. All of them preferred that their coveralls be starched and ironed.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed your video. I doubt anybody else could have made it any prettier on their first try. In 30 years, whoever lives in the house will likely put down linoleum, or another layer of flooring from Home Depot. I am certain that you will find some way to cover those gaps and nobody will ever see them.
Using line of tape on the floor before spreading last clue makes for perfect fitting last batch of adhesive. Makes perfect clean flooring for next day
also leave the glue short 1/2 inch or so on the last pass to ensure a clean start for the the next day
Picking and choosing elements to create a vision is what an artist does. How you pick and saw logs is discovery art. Assembling your floor makes it a work of art.
Matt you are a little dynamo! I love your energy. You have some real skills. Youre doing a beautiful job. 🌞👍
The attention to detail really makes this a pleasure to watch. I love that you are not in a hurry, thanks for a real step by step tutorial.
you're one of my favourite creators.....
Having layered many floors of all descriptions and materials I can’t recommend highly enough getting the best pair of knee pads you can afford.
Finally! We get to see this beautiful flooring.
If anyone asks: you can just blame it on Donavan.
Really this is a masterpiece.
😂😂
Looking great. Can't wait to see the finished product. I am sooo glad that you are the professional that you are and are NOT leaving the areas below cabinets etc without the flooring. I hate when contractors try to get away without covering the whole floor with the product.
I LOVE how excited you get about your love of wood. Pure Joy!
Thanks for bringing us along for the whole journey from log to floor!
Matt, you are so precise and neat in your installation! I would have that glue all over my hands and feet.
And your eyes.
Man I can't imagine doing this without knee pads. Amazing work, Matt.
Greetings from the bIG SKY. A bit cloudy today. Snow is gone now.
Thanks!
I enjoy these videos about the work in your new home

That wood has some amazing grain. I don't think the gaps are going to be an issue once you swipe on the filler. It's really really gorgeous wood.
Whoo... went from a cute little spider on the lens to as frustrated as I've ever seen him, which is like 'grumpy-level.' Very good instructional video, Matt. thanks.
I bet Lindsay is happy! She is being pretty patient through this whole process.
Happy Mother's Day Lindsay!!
Just fascinating to watch ponder the best boards/grain etc.
You are doing a fantastic job on the floor. Stop being so critical of yourself. It looks wonderful!
Despite the imperfections, your install is probably nicer than most professionals would do. Looks great!
Twenty years ago I installed the wood floors in our house. Very hard on the knees but it was such fun selecting and arranging the boards to achieve the desired outcome. Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
Everything takes a little longer when you have never done it before. Adjustment are a part of the process. Great stuff.
Beautiful flooring job. You had a solution for every problem. So, no problemo!!
Love the view out of the windows too.
Matt, that floor is spectacular with or without imperfections!
Beautiful, Matthew!
Thanks!
You're a craftsman Matt, beautiful floor.
20:26 Looks at the R851 bucket: “R581, okay, whatever!” That’s the spirit.
Good Morning Cremona Family.
So glad to see you back on the home remodel! I sure miss you and Donovan working together on it. You guys are going to have a beautiful home in the end and look can be proud of your craftsmanship on display every day. 👍👍
Tree-mendous! Nice push/pull clamp work! That's looking amazing regardless the minor imperfections! Great work, Team Cremona!
That flooring is looking good Matt! Thanks for sharing the video with us!😎💖👍JP
37:00 -ish the flooring when glued down and nailed down is *spectacular*!! Love it!
I feel for you! I used to sell shop equipment and very few makers actually were true in performance. It is a real pill to learn how to get some accurate. Some never get there! Large volume production always seems to need filling. It is looking really good. Finishing will astound you!
Wonderful work! The fact that you are *also* videoing the entire thing *at the same time* - makes it even more impressive!
Yes, that's been something all along! Most people couldn't do the video and editing, Drone shots, "camera falls", point of view, close-ups, pans, scenics .....
I started out doing floors with my dad 100 years ago, this video is giving me ptsd. Looks like it's going to be a great looking floor.
Another day in the life of a perfectionist!!😁😳😳
Matt you do such a great job!! Enjoy seeing how you do the floor.
Only 4 minutes in and impressed with the detail you are thinking about. That must be a furniture maker thing. Most people (myself included) I think would pretty much slap it down and call it good (with a few tweaks). Time to continue. 🙂
Sorry, I missed this Saturday, I was in the hospital. I am back home and back at it again. Another great video Matt.
Matt you have to use $1 bootie mitts for your shoes when you do adhesives. etc. It allows you to walk away (bathroom) and keep Okay shoes Okay. The nurses know what they are.
That looks fantastic and will last forever, my knees hurt just watching you though. 😂
An auxiliary fence on the infeed side would cure pretty much all your issues. Also leaving the material wide enough to allow “jointing” of the right side on the first cutter. Few things I’ve picked up since owning my 260.

White oak floor, looking good.

Good video, very interesting about the bpards being different widths at the ends versus the middle. It's going to be a beautiful floor!
Matt, It may have been a long time coming, but well worth it. YOU DO AMAZING WORK!!! VERY BEAUTIFUL FLOORING!!!!
You have hit my passion. I did the floors in my house before I sold it. It was the hardest work I have ever done but I loved every minute. Great job.
*** FINALLY ***. :). White oak makes the most beautiful and long lasting floor - even the lower grades of white oak create an amazing floor. Great job.

The lay out of a wood project is a part I fiddled with for hours before I'd commit to a cut.
Don't beat yourself up about inconsistencies in the milling. Factory boards have inconsistencies too.
Great attention to detail Matt very tricky with the dimensional variations. The floor will look stunning once sanded and coated. The average flooring installer would never take that much care.
Looking great Matt !
Many of the imperfections you see, others won't... Although I would...lol

What an amazing space you've created... Looking forward to seeing that flooring all sanded, sealed and finished. I'm sure it's gonna look spectacular!
"FINALLY" IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!! HOOORAY!
Love to see you using the most top of the line products for your install! Then again, I may be biased (worked for Bona my whole career) 😊
Beautiful flooring my man!
With the left over glue I have found that a strip of 2 inch masking tape gives a better clean edge for runs at the end of the day.
I installed cheap flooring from lumber liquidators, and it had a similar amount of milling defects. Good to know it has the same quality as some guy making it in his garage, running a machine for the first time ever. It was prefinished, so I had even fewer options to correct the defects. i think oak is the problem. it expands and contracts and this needs to be allowed for and is one of the hardest woods to machine .You did a good job 😊

Man, that was a lot of work! Looking awesome!
Mart, your floor looks great.
Thanks!
I did my own kitchen remodel 15 years ago… I thought I would save money building my own cabinets. But, wound up spending twice as much and needed to buy more tools and better tools… still, I don’t regret my long hours… pride in workmanship is worth more than a few thousand bucks.
Great work..nothing in flooring is consistent...I dud notice you got much better in spreading the glue..
Had to learn how to use a trowel 😄
It looks so good! Been a joy to see all this come along. Sun room is amazing ☀️
I am sure your frustrated with the defects caused by that milling machine, but once its all done, filled ,sanded and finished those memories will disappear! great work! good wood choice too!
It's nice to see it all in one contiuous video. Even though we already saw it all in 15 second segments.
I appreciate the explanation of the advantages of using glue.
I'm not sure if it's worth the extra work, but I bet it will last forever.
Very nice floor Mr. Cremona. Stay safe.
Thank you for demonstrating how to use a very expensive slide miter saw (Not a chop saw).
Fascinating, thank you. Thunder Bay, Ontario
Looks great. You notice any tiny imperfection but most people won't see them unless you point it out. And Luke a guy I worked with years ago used to say " in a 100 years nobody will notice". You are doing a great job cut yourself some slack.

Good to see that Matt only waited ONE day before putting on the knee pads.
Same thing happened to me with Bostik, needed more than calculated. And this stuff isnt cheap.
Fantastic job! Cool nailer you got there. Although I first thought it would go without nails. But I see how the nails are necessary, after all.
I can't explain why, but I think this was my favorite episode on your channel.
Probably all the glue
You know it was rough going when you see the scenery outside at the start of the video and the end.
We don’t have much for seasonal transitions
Fabulous!
