That floor levelling was actually witchcraft. Nice tip on the upside down carpet tiles too
I am 82, in the building trade all my life, they say you learn something new every day, "How to level up a floor" I just did. Brilliant job.
I'm 64 and I too have been in the building trade all my life and I would not have done it this way
Absolutely stunning, the way you levelled out the floor you must be the most patient guy on UA-cam 👍👍👍
Yes a fantastic job,
Phenomenal attention to detail, all that prep work levelling will speed up the floor laying I thought and then he goes into even more careful, methodical, no compromise detail when actually laying the boards. A true craftsman, proud of his work.
love the patience and attention to detail, also big props for not using cheesy music and timelapse but instead splicing sections together that still flow with the timeline and overall story
I have medical problems so at the moment I can't do any physical labour, but I am recovering. These videos are all being saved for when I am well enough to work on my home again. Your channel is a valuable resource for people who don't know how to do these things but want to work on their own homes, so thanks for putting it up where we can see it.
This has been such a pleasure and honor to be brought into your home and watch it come alive with such beauty. You are a craftsman and blessed with talent. Absolutely beautiful ❤️👍🏼🇺🇸
Watching a master craftsman, is such a joy. I've learnt an important lesson, watching these videos. Namely, that I shouldn't even attempt jobs of this complexity!
Russ is a very humorous person. Love his sense of humour and attention to detail.
The ironic thing is that this is the most straightforward clear instructional video how to lay floor boards without talking.
Good job Russ
You doing that stair rail a while back is one of the best carpentry videos I have yet seen.
οι αρμοι οπου να ναι
I've got so much work to do but I've just watched that whole video and it was time very well spent. I think the combination of the methodical work plus the lack of talking/music turns it into a form of meditation.
"Thanks for watching" !! We should thank you for showing us such inspirational tutorials. Pure genius is what you are.
I remember watching two loud-mouthed lager-yobs nail down cheap flooring to several rooms of a house. Every board either bounced or creaked, several cracked within a year and the entire floor looked like a cheap landlord house. You get what you put into a project, and your projects always get stunning attention and craftsmanship. Thank you for making these videos.
Excellent yet again, with added ‘thinking outside the box (carpet tiles). You are a ‘STAR’ Russ, thanks for sharing.
The meticulousness is astounding. I watched my floors being installed and several times I thought "that's not how I would do it" but what do I really know.
The preparation is everything! I hope you show the skirting being installed. I need to see the finished project!!
or you can use a self leveling compound that dries in 30 minutes
I hope your wife watches all these videos so she can see the incredible job you put into restoring your home. She’s lucky to have such a talent husband. Mine can’t even make ice cubes.
I'm a newish carpenter and I learn a ton from your channel. Thanks.
Another master piece of craftsmanship
I'm not sure which to be more gobsmacked by... the absolutely stunning floor and immaculate attention to detail or the masking tape that actually works. Just beautiful work.
I used the same bamboo uni-cliq flooring in my house 5 years ago when I did our reno… still in perfect nick and still surviving 2 kids, 2 dogs and several lockdowns here in the convict country of Melbourne, Straya( Australia 🇦🇺 to you Brits) love your work, banter and the channel. Keep them rolling!!
Thanks for translation; Google Translate has yet to get to Strine!
The joys of old houses where little is square or level! Your custom-fitting around doorways, curved steps etc is admirable. I really felt for your knees without strap-on kneeling pads! Beautiful finished effect!
Wonderful, meticulous work! You will not remember all the time you spent on un-padded knees, but they will remind you later in life! Ask me how I know. Best!
His snickers work pants have padded knee inserts
I have made all these moves, telling myself there has to be an easier way...... Nope. There isn't. So satisfying to see another taking the time and doing it as well as it can be done. Well done sir!
Stunning finish ,but why did u not leave 🤔 expansion all hardwood floor, s expand, u need freedom all around 12mm
@@darrenfoley8330 More experience would tell you that stable wood in a stable house doesn't move a whole lot. "Leaving a gap" is what manufacturers recommend to avoid liabilities and in a rectangular room is no biggy. It is often, dare I say usually, impractical.
@@davegrier523 true. Doesn't expand THAT much. He left a bit of room anyway. Also means that the baseboard will look really nice without some shitty moulding addon.
Someone else in the household was also very pleased this was done.
O my the floor is stunning have never seen a floor prepared and laid like that. So looking forward seeing this house come together.
Yo! Recent subscriber from Germany here! I was so hoping for a new video and ba-bamm here it is!
Respect for your work and your video skills! A Grammy would be well deserved my friend!
Hope the next video is already in the pipeline💪💪
Cheers from Bavaria
PSO
I admire your perseverance and precision in your work. Greetings from germany Christoph 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
THIS GUY IS DEMONSTRATING THE INTERFACE BETWEEN MASTER-CRAFTSMANSHIP AND APPLIED ART!!!
In Europe, floor is last job that is done when all jobs are finished ( plaster painters electrical ... )
Magnificent work like always
OLD houses are so beautiful. And this flooring just knocks it out of the park! This house will continue to stand the test of time with you giving this level of love and care to it.
You bought these old house and you are repairing peace by peace just imagine in the end the work those hands mama mia you are englishman UK national treasure those hands man just show a picture of all house how it was and now.
Math skills are spot on!!!!
I really like the idea of using carpet tiles under the new floor. It'll help absorb noise and bounce. :-)
As a Yorkshire lad myself, I am very impressed, fab work pal .... Top tip: As a dead weight for the flooring during install, I use the Mother-in-law, she has her uses at times.
A good handyman never gets lonely with his work
You are a master craftsman. There seems to be nothing that you are incapable of achieving. Simply glorious!
Edit : I first saw those stairs a year ago and was hooked….it only got better and more diverse from there.
You are truly a craftsman!
Leveling floor method makes sense still much more work butt pay off greater. Those new floors r gorgeous, a pretty penny spent, ur taste is rich, organic in everything Russ 😘 Love watching how floors thresholds bottom of stairs r measured, chiseled to fit flooring tight into corners, into stairs, always on the mark so interesting. Oh yes now i get why doorway needs 2 pieces 👍🏻 wow so quiet no squeaking floors like my old 1900 floors🤷🏻♀️ thank your Russ onto the next, I'm catching up🇺🇸
Quality of the highest level
That looks like bamboo flooring. I’ve just laid that in my daughters house, it’s brilliant
Incredible work, as someone that's relatively new to the joinery world you make it look like the easiest thing in the world.... It absolutely isn't.
Wish I had ½ the skills you do, Bravo.
As tedious as this removal/installation ordeal seems to have been, the results are striking. Most people would have said, "Screw it, we'll install carpeting." But you have created a beautiful and sturdy floor that will last for many, many years. Well done, sir.
Brilliant, the way you did those corners and curves. You are a very patient guy.
Beautifull floor, nice job, nice explanation, no music, no talking: fantastic. Thank you. Greets from the Netherlands.
The constant ingenuity and geometric engineering on display here is fuckin magical. Wow. And the floor sounds so nice! So quiet!
THANK YOU for no background music.
Very nice video. Looks real nice.
(Carpenter 100 years from now): "Someone cut 1" off the bottom of all the casements and mouldings".
I admire your patience, Sir, I really do! Besides many things I can learn from this video, patience is by far the biggest!
"Freedom land baseboard" almost killed me!!
Невозможно оторвать глаз от работы ! Вы мастер.
Thank you for showing how you work your patience and gentle manner, the care for the smallest details, all show the artist that you are it is our privilege to watch you work
Hi sir Your idea of carpet tile is inspired , your neighbours will love you for that . There’s nothing worse than the clacking noise from wood floors . Best wishes and kind regards. 😀👍👍👍
A superb job. From leveling the subfloor, using an underlayment that also acts as sound deadening, and--most importantly of all--avoiding the use of thresholds at all doors to create a truly seamless install.
But to be fair, this is the bare minimum I've come to expect from you.
I can't be the only one a tad disappointed that he didnt make the actual flooring !
Love your channel. Amazing skill set, great video production. Very pleasing to view because there's no music, no time lapse and no talking; the script at the bottom of the screen is all the explanations one needs to follow your process.
I'm thrilled I found your UA-cam channel - thanks for sharing
I could watch these guys do stuff like this all day... especially when they're good. I'm sure they're shelling out some serious coin on this guy, and he deserves every cent!
It's his own house.
never seen a floor leveled like that. Great craftsmanship
Floor looks really nice. Grand work as usual greetings from Lancashire 👍
WOW. If you are going to do a job do it the best you can - my father taught me. I always wanted to be a finish carpenter, and I was for a good while in my younger years but health issues ended that dream. I know from experience a lot about finish carpentry (as opposed to construction carpentry) but this man is a MASTER. I am stuck in my recliner now, after another knee surgery and I am in awe as I binge on New Yorkshire Workshop videos.
Hahahah i love the “… freedom land” part at the end.
Stunning work by the way :)
Thanks for posting, always enjoy.
Your mindset to make a perfection on this level is stunning. I love your work very much. Great work.
Nice ,delicate work!.Smart work!👍👍👍
True Craftsmanship .
GREAT VIDEO, GREAT JOB, GLAD YOU ARE BACK...
Your craftsmanship is, as always, top notch! 🥳
Very interesting indeed! We had a floor installed in quite a large house with long runs along the corridors, and we found out 6 months later that the expansion gaps were not big enough. Required a lot of adjustment. Lesson was that the time of year when you have the floor installed is quite important.
Also, the type of wood you use effects expansion. This looked like a factory made floor---solid top on a built up core---and it doesn't move much. Or at least it's no supposed to!
Proper job! Beautiful.
Watching these videos is so relaxing . Absolutely stunning workmanship .
Bravo
Lovely to see a job WELL DONE...And you`re the best at doing them! ;-)...The carpet tile underlay was a BRILLIANT idea.... Forgot how amazing that upper staircase turned out... The place is a credit to you;-)
Excellent work! The floor looks fabulous! Putting the sound proofing carpet tiles in was a great way to save money! Great idea to even up the floor so it stays level & doesn't squeak. I like how you mixed & matched the flooring boards from each box to make it eye appealing. Overall A-plus+ job!
Thank you for allowing me to watch your extraordinary work. Please don't ever stop.
Such a hard working and loving his proffession.such a perfection and precision
You are an expert teacher, you do an admirable job!
Nice idea on the underlay soft tiles !!!
The result is stunning. What an amazing job!
Love what you've been doing with this house. Some inventive ideas, and I learned a lot. As usual with your work! Thanks!
I love how much quality you put into your work. Beautiful.
Craftsmanship demonstrated! ❤️
Very nice work on a difficult job 10 / 10
Omg I needed this tutorial. I also have an old home and I was really worried about installing over the wood but this has given me more confidence
Best of luck from Hamilton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Looks beautiful and great ideas on dealing with uneven floors. Thanks
Oh my goodness. I love it!
You make it look like an easy job.
That’s the kind of care and attention to detail we’d like in all the craftspeople who work in our homes. Well done. Personally I have to say I preferred the original floorboards! lol
The problem is that most home owners expect craftsmanship from tradesmen. There is a big difference between a craftsman and a tradesman. A craftsman will do champagne work but you won't get away with paying him cider money.
Thank you, thank you! I am tackling a flooring project this spring, although my house is only 44-years-old. =:-) You've given me bunches of great tips to Get-'R-Done. I bet your rooms/floor are a lot warmer and quieter...
Fantastic!! Truly looks amazing - Just a word of caution for anybody looking to do something similar - In an old house there are often / nearly always, loads of pipes running around the place that in time will need to be accessed to repair leaks or wiring that needs to be checked or amended etc. I can't tell you the amount of times we have had to lift floorboards in an emergency over the last fifteen years. if our flooring had been as beautiful as this we would have just cried taking a multi-tool to it! An alternative options might be to consider replacing the originals and not having interlocking boards and using period style nails to fix - potentially more draughty I know and a slightly different look but still can look lovely with less drama in the future. I hope this doesn't come across as negative.- I really do love the look and great job / attention to detail - cheers.
Beautiful floor. Your attention to detail is exemplary .
Respect you are so good a real Craftsman !!!
Stunning floor, immaculate measuring and cutting, tedious prep work. Don't think anyone else can too that. Well done.
The craftsman you'd want working in your house.
Cannot comprehend how you made out those topographic layers.
Really enjoyed this video. So impressed by your commendable work ethic and skill.
Wish I could have you do my floors if ever in the future I am able to buy a house.
Once again sublime skill of a master craftsman on display here. The depth of knowledge & the research done support the skill set on display perfectly. What a learning curve for anyone contemplating house renovations. A beautiful, beautiful job sir, you are a credit to your craft. Don from South Aust.
I'm impressed with your leveling.
It looks super stunning Russ and the shine is amazing. A superb job mate. Great video 👍🏼👍🏼
You are a true master. Especially with a ruler! Great job.
I’m a time served joiner told I’m to fussy but your more meticulous than me 😀😀 great work.
