Hi ! How do you connect the 500 module without a launchbox that provides audio and electricity ? TY !
Thanks for watching! Our 500-series units actually are, in a “lunchbox” module- but it is a rack mounted version that can handle up to 11, 500-series units. It was custom-built in AZ at the Old School Audio shop.

Awesome video!! I am trying to decide on ad/da converters for my soon to be mastering room, and I am torn between Crane Song and Burl... I really don't know which way to go at the moment. I am also GREATLY interested in the dual subwoofer setup as you have shown in your own studio.

Also, we feel for mastering, the Crane Song stuff would be much more usable than the Burl, as the Burl is pretty colored from my experience.

And thank you for the advice regarding converters! When it comes to D/A, I am thinking about two Solarises -- one unit to feed the signal to the analog chain, and then the other unit for monitoring (and I'm thinking of acquiring an Interstellar for the A/D).
----- One question I have though is how do you use your Solaris for monitoring with the mains and the subwoofers? I know the Solaris has two sets of outputs, and so I am wondering if you hook up your mains to Solaris's first set of outputs and then connect your subwoofers to Solaris's second set of outputs. No rush on the answers, thanks!

Can you explain more in-depth how you go out of the box to your analog chain and vad levels you go in to the chain and what level back to digital?.

We have different setups for mastering and for mixing:
MASTERING- The source audio comes out of the Crane Song HEDD DA converters, hits the analog chain and then goes back to the digital world via the HEDD AD converters. Although there is no exact level that every session uses, the DAC is usually peaking under 5dBfs, with an RMS level in the ballpark of -16 (average). Coming back into the DAW, it goes anywhere from -6dBfs all the way up to clipping the converters, if the material likes it.
MIXING- Typically, the Pro Tools session will be routed out as (up to) 8 stereo pairs of sub-mixes (ex. Drums, Bass, Guitar, VOCAL, FX, etc), which feed the a Universal Audio Apollo16b’s DA converters. The converted, analog signal then passes through any analog gear of our choosing (ex. the Successor on drums), then is passively summed by our Rolls Folcrom 16-channel summing mixer, amplified back up to line level by any stereo preamp (ex. Focusrite ISA2), then hits at least an analog mix buss compressor…maybe more! To get the analog chain converted back into Pro Tools, we can use any of these choices: Universal Audio 2192, Mytek Stereo192 or the Apollo16b. Once again, the levels going back into the DAW range from as low as -12dBfs up to clipping, if it’s absolutely essential to the sound. As far as the levels that go out to the DA converters goes, it’s not really specific. Usually under digital clipping. Hope that helps!

Very cool! I use a similar monitoring setup, except i use sorbothane and a big concrete block as a stand(i'm a cheap bastard). What high pass do you use? Think you can use 75hz or 100hz with that sub? My crossover is external but i went with 100hz since i run them stereo and they are also stacked so localization isn't an issue.
One more question why didn't you go with the iso-puck mini? Isn't that more in the optimal weight range?

Hey..if it works…it works! Doesn’t have to look pretty if it’s getting the job done.
1- In our setup, we’re using the crossovers built into in the Sub6, which are on variable pots. Right now they’re sitting right under 70hz. The low end sounds absolutely balanced, punchy and it tests out quite impressively, too ;)
2- To be 100% honest, were not sure why we did not use the mini versions...guessing either they were unavailable, didn’t look as good in the renderings or that there was some specific other reason. Can’t say for sure, but we do like having all the mounts look the same and this system works perfectly for us.
@@FuzzywallzMastering I think the rating on the website is confusing for pucks. It is max load maybe, if you use their advice tool they recommend the ones you have.

I love Strategic subwoofers.......... you didnt mention the magic of the Toft..!?
Lovely room and a great combination of monitors. I was constantly thinking about pairing the solo 6 with a sub and use as full range for mastering but i did not see anybody else using in a mastering setup with this combination.
1. Can you share your final room size after acoustic treatment.
2. How far are you sitting from the monitors and what do you think is an optinmal distance for mastering and mixing in a well treated room like yours with this monitoring combination.
3. Can you share your experience with any other monitors comparing to this setup.
4. How low does the speaker go and how detailed and comfortable are you in mixing the low ends and how does it transalate outside.

Thank you, we love the setup.
1- Can’t find the exact measurements at the moment, but its going to be right around 240 sq.ft / 2,200 cubic ft.
2- the primary listening position is about 6.5 feet away from the mains.
3- Nice timing on this question, actually we very recently we had one of the tweeters go out on our Focal Solo6 Be’s. While waiting for new (gen.2) Solo6 Be’s, we had to run our “backup” monitors, which are JBL 308. Let’s just say that the difference was night and day,..The JBLs, while loud and bassy, etc. but just sounded weird and no where near as focused or balanced as the Solo 6Be’s. Now that we have newer, gen.2 Solo6 Be mains...the sound is even better than before. Hopefully we can get the older Focal monitors fixed and keep THEM as the backup pair ;).
4- The low end in this room and with this speaker setup is amazing, Everything we have mixed or mastered translates pretty seamless to the outside world. Last we measured, we were seeing very usable response down to the 20Hz area.
Our setup is very unique, but it is quite deliberate and wouldn’t work in every room. Thanks for reaching out!...
