The egg is a recurring theme in a lot of Dali's work - it symbolizes rebirth and resurrection. For him, he also had an “intrauterine egg theory” where he was convinced to remember perfectly his life in the maternal uterus. Something too weird by half for me!!. That Castle Sant Ferran was amazing.

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife  8 місяців тому

He was a man with some very interesting perspectives, that's for sure. Wow Paulette, we had no idea about the intrauterine egg theory. We'll have to Google what he said about his experience. 🤔
Agreed, Sant Ferran was one of the most impressive places we've been.
      Happy new year lovely.

So proud of Alison for being able to do the tunnels, and cistern tour! I too suffer from claustrophobia and would not be able to do that! Bravo!

The logs with a face are Catalonia's Santa Claus alike tradition called "caga tio" "crap dude" kids first give that log food (the night before, and adults eat those food), and after that night, they hit the log with a stick saying "caga tio" (crap dude) to "crap" gifts (adults make them appear).
    Congratulations on another great video.

What an amazing guided tour. So many different elements to it, and well done Alison for taking on the underground boat trip. Very brave. We visited a Dali exhibition in Barcelona a few years back. Boy, did he have 'issues' ! 😱

It was a great tour and Enric was hilarious. Not very PC, but hilarious. It would have been fine if the water cisterns had been empty. 😂🤣
Dali was definitely unique, that's for sure.

Great job Alison in dealing your fears of tunnels and confined spaces. The size and design of castle was incredible, the engineering and man power if took to build such a massive complex is staggering. The size of horse stable was remarkable. Darren and Alison we have been subscribed since your first few videos and look forward to your next destination. Thumbs up as always

      Hi Geodude,
Thanks for the compliment, we both try to push/support ourselves and each other through our fears, we don't do too bad most of the time. 😉
Would it surprise you to learn that the stable block we showed, which held 475 horses, was originally only 1 of 2 symmetrical blocks..?!? The other block, was blown to kingdom come, when the Republicans surrendered to General Franco. The officers in charge of the fortress refused to allow Franco and his allies to benefit from their armaments, so they stashed them all in one block of the stables and a flour store under the entrance bridge. Set a fuses and blew it all up. It obliterated the stable and did considerable damage to the surrounding walls. The bridge was badly damaged. Franco had his military repair the bridge and do other repairs, but decided not to rebuild the stables.
Thank-you so much for your continued support of us and the channel. It means the world to us. We would be keen to hear your honest opinion on the progression of the channel since the beginning.

@@findingxanadulife We like that your travels focus on smaller towns and less popular touristy locations. The camera work and audio quality of your channel continue to increase with each new video, and your choice of music also adds to the experience. We enjoy the small verbal glitches that you leave in as it adds to the authenticity of your day trip, and enjoy your relaxed approach as you walk through the various sites. We are from Canada and use your travel videos for references in planning a month long stay in Spain later this year. As far as suggestions … I suggest you continue to be yourselves !

@geodude8451 Thank-you so much for such a lovely comment. The editing is entirely down to Darren. He mostly chooses the music too, but runs it past me, in case there is anything I don't like. He wasn't happy with the audio quality, so we invested in wireless microphones and they've made a world of difference. We always get our "mords wuddled" 🤣😂
Maybe in future years (fingers crossed) you can give us some suggestions of places to visit in Canada. We hope to eventually ship our motorhome over and tour Canada and the USA. We have friends in Espanola, Ontario, plus friends and family in USA.

It was definitely a new one on us too. We love visiting these things and imagining the people that lived and worked there. Preferring to spend 8 hours a day in a tiny space underground with little light and even less ventilation, the alternatives during wartime must have been too horrendous to contemplate. ☹️
Thankfully neither of us have a problem with snakes, so we were fine, but enclosed spaces, not so much. 🤣

@@findingxanadulife Yes whenever you visit castles or the old part of town, I love to envision what it was like. What the walls have seen, if only we could know.
This video showed the realities of war and what people had to endure in order to survive. I don’t think I would be tough enough.
Me and my husband watch all your videos! Again, thank you for taking us along on your travels! 🙏

    "we're' no art critics"
No one really is, some just pretend to be by having funny ways of staring at art and then trying to use big words to describe some deeper meaning that often doesn't exist (a jab at modern art).

@wariods3588 🤣😂🤣😂 That is about right. Similar to the "very expensive/valuable" piece of "artwork" (a banana stuck to a wall with duct tape) that was completely devalued, when someone removed the banana and ate it. Surely the banana would have needed to be changed regularly for it to stay fresh anyway..? We liken it to the "Emperor's New Clothes" tale. 🤣😂🤣💜🤟
