- Gym Leaders are some of the most important and recognizable characters in the Pokemon franchise. I recently completed a series on the channel where I covered an interesting fact about every single Pokemon, so I figured I would do the same for the human characters as well! The Gym Leaders have a lot of interesting trivia to offer, so I hope you enjoy the video!

The Nessa fact can be simply put down to her having two Drednaws as the one she uses for the champion battles can Gigantaxmax but her gym version can only use the regular Dynamax.
yeah i was about to say that. Her male drednaw can't dynamax but her female one can. So presumably she just has two drednaw.

Another interesting fact about Gordie is that of the 4 version exclusive gym leaders he is the only one whose signature pokemon capable of gigantamaxing is not a gen 1 pokemon

The reason why Erika's Kimono was crossed right over left in the original concept art was that she was originally going to be the Ghost-Type Gym Leader of Lavender Town until they decided not to do that, this also make the floating Pokéball in her sprite make more sense too
And the way her eyes look. In her RGB art Erika looks like she's asleep. Her pose even looks like she's leaning on something.
@@hydriadus Hmm... that's a possible explanation, not sure it's the RIGHt one though. you'd think a grass trainer wouldn't inhale the sleep powder unless they wanted to... especially since the other trainers under her don't seem to share that.

layer 1: Erika probably got swapped to Grass from Ghost since they just didn't have enough Ghosts. So... what would her team be? Pokémon that aren't in gen1 at all?
Layer2: what would a ghost version of Erika's story be? I suspect "perfume" thing could be more akin to incense? Less one with nature, more one with the spirit world?
Layer3: Erika doesn't interact much with other Gymleaders in the anime so... not a lot there. But it'd be interesting if Ash met Erika... then did the Gengar thing since... He'd be quite familiar with Gengars by then.

Piers is the only Galar gym leader who doesn't Dynamax/Gigantamax his Pokemon for a dark type villainous gym leader he actually plays fair the complete opposite of dark types.

Indeed, although iirc this is due to his gym not having a dynamax field or whatever running underneath it. It's actually rather sad, I feel bad beating him, I almost wanna lose for him. He just wants to provide for his sister and lackies and he just wants to put the city he resides in on the map since nobody really takes it seriously or knows of it.

I love blaine's robotnik esque look, I was plesently supprised in lets go that they capitalized on his eccentric look and turned him into his islands only entertainment, the little blaine dolls were very cute.
Another reason for allister being called onion in Japanese is that there are mythical demons in Japanese folklore called oni, like in ONIon, and he uses ghost types.

@@Xaero13 He got half of them legitimately. Surge, Koga, Blaine, Giovanni (That one is debatable since he battled Jessie and James for the badge instead of Giovanni, but I think it was legitimate because Giovanni gave them the rights to the gym for a while)

For chilli, cilan and cress: chilli's are hot, cilan comes from cilantro (coriander) and leafy herb, and cress comes from watercress. Their names are all plants used in cooking and their gym is a restraunt.

17:16 ok... I'm gonna point this out now because I have a huge theory about it and I really think it weighs on this. In the Sun and Moon games when Hau mentions that his dad got a job far away from Alola, many people seem to try to make it seem like he'd only stick to fighting type Pokemon because of his relation to Hala, but Here we can see that Marlon Looks like Hau and even has the same carefree attitude that makes Him seem like He could be Hau's dad. Even his gym has a tropical feel to it... I can't seem to get anyone to see these similarities even though they're So blatant you'd have to be blind in order to miss them
This video had me shook though. I deadass thought Gordie was MARRIED to Melony. I guess that explains Gordie's embarrassed/angry facial expression in Melony's rare league card.

A really cool thing about Gordie and Melony that I found out about: Even though they specialize in different types, their team's typings are actually not so different. During their gym battles, both of them use a single typed, a fire type, a water type, and a bug type Pokémon. Also, both of their ace's other type is strong against each other's specialized type. I always find this a nice touch, wonder if this is intentional.

Technically, there is a gym leader in Alola. In usum, there's the unofficial gym. Even if it's unofficial, it's worth mentioning

I just hope that Piers won’t be the last Dark Type Gym Leader we get, he’s so cool and I want this type to get more rep in the gyms, I mean Piers being in charge of the ‘evil’ team was really doing it for a very sweet and loving standpoint, making sure his little sister is cheered on throughout her journey to becoming champion, and that’s just so adorable.
And that’s the way GameFreak should approach Dark Type Gym Leaders, they’re not evil because they’re using the evil type, they like the aesthetic and are actually real sweethearts once you meet them(despite how punk Piers is, I can’t get over how gosh darn adorable he is with his sister). So that way no one could complain that GameFreak is pushing some evil agenda towards young gamers
They’re mostly used for the Elite Four so I don’t see why it’s so important.
I don’t like that dark type are called evil type. Dark type can mischievous, prankster or jokester but they don’t have to be evil.

The reason nessas dreadnaw changed gender is because it is a different Pokémon. As dreadnaw only dynamaxed in the first battle but the subsequent battles it was a gigantamax one. So yeah she must have just caught a new one.
Nessa's Drednaw does NOT Change genders. She has two different pokemon. First off, that wouldn't make sense for it to just randomly change genders. Also, if it was the same pokemon, then how could it gigantamax if it couldn't before? I'm pretty sure they made the two Drednaw different genders to say "hey, this is actually a different Pokemon than the one you faced earlier". Just as a little hint.
Also, not trying to be mean at all...but i thought that was kinda obvious, lol. Especially if you think about the whole dynamax vs gigantamax thing. Actually, that's what made me realized that it was a different Drednaw. I didn't even realize the gender difference until like a month ago, when another UA-camr pointed it out

I mean your right, but drednaw is based on a amphibian animal... and they can in extreme situations swap genders to make sure the species can continue. Jurassic Park was not making that up.
@@OneoftheVoice ...1.) Drednaw is based on an alligator snapping turtle, which is not an amphibian. Also, those turtles can't change sex
2.) It's only a very select few species of frogs that can change sex under extreme, very specific circumstances. Not any amphibian can do it.
3.) I never said Jurassic Park made any of that up, and I don't appreciate people putting words into my mouth.
4.) None of that even matters though, as one Drednaw can only dynamo, while the other one can Gigantamax. That alone proves they are different Pokemon.
Maybe the Phoebe and Tate and Liza contradiction could be answered. They could have the same grandparents.

The water type gym leader in gen 8 signature pokemon drednor changes its gender because she changes the pokemon because u can't make any wild pokemon gigantamax. It can only do that in isle of armor with max soup.
I would've pictured Cress's name is referring to Water Cress, which is a very old type of leaf vegetable.

I never even realized Giovanni was supposed to be an Earth type gym leader. His use of Pokemon seems rather random, plus most Rock type Pokemon have Ground as a secondary type, so Brock already kinda had Ground covered.
yeah Giovanni's team doesn't seem well-thought out by the devs really, but I suspect part of the issue is just how few fully evolved pokemon were in teh game. :/
I would love to see a video with both Elite Four/Champions and Battle Frontier Brains, in one video, since Caitlin is a Battle Frontier Member in the Sinnoh games, but becomes an Elite Four member in the Unova games.

I did find it really unfortunate that you didn’t go over the Alolan trial leaders. Yes, they aren’t gym leaders but they are the counterparts for those games, so facts about them would have been welcome, too! But other than that, great video!
