Julia Whelan is the narrator of Funny Story, and I believe she narrated most of Emily Henry's books. Julia Whelan is a very popular audiobook narrator, she is amazing.
I read "The Joy Luck Club" years ago and it is a book that is timeless. I encourage you to see the movie. It's one of the times the film lives up to the book.
I don't know if your gonna see this but the book remember the time by bill Whitfield and Jason beard with Tanner Colby is a really good book oh and love your videos and you inspire me to read a lot more❤
you have sold me on these 3 books. *adding to my never ending TBR* 😭😭😭annnddd you put a Michelin star comparison?!?! immediate buy. also--sending virtual hugs, bc you're not the only person navigating through self healing. 💗
My favorite of Abby's is definitely Yours Truly. I think it is because I connected so much with the main male character. I felt seen. Just like you're saying with Just for the Summer. So great that there are so many great books out there! ❤
Ooh okay, looks like I'm giving Emily Henry another chance! I read Beach Read earlier this year and couldn't connect with it. Also, I share the same sentiments about Just for the Summer. Part of Your World was also great and Yours Truly has my whole heart.
I looooved Just for the Summer! The mental health aspect was so important and definitely caught me off guard a bit too. But the ROMANCE aspect?! I don't think we are talking enough about how amazing Justin was LOL the definition of "if he wanted to, he would"
There is a great documentary on Amy Tan that came out in the last couple of years where she discusses her career and the impact of the Joy Luck Club. It's worth a view!
I read the joy luck club thanks to you, thanks my dearest Khalilah, can't wait for the other two books to be translated in my language ❤❤❤Thanks for another creme de la creme video💓💓
You do an amazing job convincing people to check out books just by how you speak about them. You give enough information about the book but not enough spoilers to give everything away. 😊🥰
I am currently reading The Chestnut Springs series by Elsie Silver and omg such a good romance. @KahiliahDensen if you read this series would you make a review video about each of the chestnut Series books that would be awesome. Love ur videos!!! ❤❤❤
6:39 My copy of The Joy Luck Club arrived at home few weeks back but I'm still in school so I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet I can't wait to read it
14:50 I loved Funny Story but I also loved Beach Read for personal reasons. But I want to try Love & Other Words. ive tried 2 books by Christina Lauren and havent been able to get into their books, but everyone says thats her best book. Yes also Emily Henry doesnt do any dual pov but I wish she did!
I agree with you 💯! I read The Joy Luck Club, years ago. I am half Korean on my mom’s side, and totally understood the push and pull of the mothers and daughters. Funny Story was my first 5 star romance read this year, and then I read Just for the Summer. Two books that are 5 star back to back😳. But, I just read A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston, and it’s a strong 4 star read.
I read joy luck club last week and really liked it. It was funny that one of the daughters were born in 1951 and her mom was born in 1918 like my mom and grandma. And the quote around it rang true to them. I also read Funny Story and loved it. I read it as an ebook and ate it up in two days. I loved Just for the summer too! 😂 🎉 I had a traumatic childhood and felt seen and heard by that book!
You got me curious about Funny Story now. I feel the same way about Emily Henry after trying Happy Place and People We Meet On Vacation. but if this one sold you then it’s worth a shot
lilah, you know when you're trying to get out of a reading slump and you read a book and it's putting you back in the hole. butttt.....started reading funny story per your recommendation and yassss ❤
legit JUST finished reading Just for the Summer last night/morning and the elements you pointed out ring so true and hit me so hard as well!!! if you enjoyed that one, I recommend Radio Silence by Alice Oseman if you haven’t read it yet. just interesting to witness that kind of relationship fully from a platonic viewpoint
I am not big fan of both your romance recommendations. Especially, love and other words, it was mid. However, the joy luck club was and still is a phenomenal read 👌🏽 A great read that you probably will enjoy is, A memoir of a geisha by Arthur Golden. It is also adapted into a movie but read the book.
At this point I feel like we’re literally best friends because I knew exactly what books you were going to talk about and why they were your favorites. That feels like a reward for watching every single one of your videos ❤
I read the joy luck club back in high school (and have reread it numerous times since). It's on my top list of all time❤❤😊😊 pls tell me you have a movie watching vlog planned, I'm begging at this point lol🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🥰🥰🥰
Salahuddin gets a letter from the doctor. The doctor says salahuddin’s mom wanted to talk about an abused young person but did not tell the doctor who it was. Ideally the doctor should’ve gotten a social worker to gather more information.
Iam buckled up and hanging on your every word 😅 now btw even if you convince me with your words ( iam sure you will ) I am ok being convinced by other means 😊😅😂
Oh my gosh when I finished reading After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid I wished we got Ryan’s (the husband) POV. So hearing you say you wished you got the man’s point of view in Funny Story, I understood! 👌🏾
i love listening to people talk about the books that are part of their heart and soul :’)
Me too 💌

Should I read the joy luck club after watching the movie first? I saw the movie years ago and I wasn’t sure if I should go back and read the book.

Haha I do now 😅
I loved Funny story but hated Beach Read. I don’t understand why everyone loves that book. I found it boring and without any substance.
Same 🫣
We will not discuss Abby's wrongs 🤐 lol I love her writing so much
Some good reads:
Where crawdads sing, all my rage by sabaa taahir (though this book has a big factual error), glass castle by jeanette walls.
Curious on the factual error for all my rage
Salahuddin gets a letter from the doctor. The doctor says salahuddin’s mom wanted to talk about an abused young person but did not tell the doctor who it was. Ideally the doctor should’ve gotten a social worker to gather more information.
Random: Can you link your bed??? 😅 So serious. My daughter will be 13 this year and I love redecorating her room. ❤
