    Easy way to Measure and mark ceramic tile for diagonal and Diamond Pattern cuts using a template made to the exact dimensions needed so no tape measure is necessary.
    Marking ceramic tiles for diagonal cuts can be challenging with a ruler or tape measure, it is difficult to get the right angle to mark the tile correctly. There are tools available to accomplish this task, but some can be complicated and time consuming. Here I offer a suggestion on how to properly measure and mark tiles to be installed on a diagonal on a floor. There is no measuring and no complicated tools, just a simple piece of plywood or stiff cardboard cut to the correct size. This method is easy and will be possible to mark almost all your tiles using this simple process. A simple template cut to the correct size will make marking tiles for cuts much quicker and easier.

    Bollox!! Been tiling 15 years and never done it this way before! I normally fuck around with measurements and then just shout and scream and punch the customer for wanting stupid diamond set before I eventually make it look great. You have just saved me hours and made me money, nice one mate. Thanks 👍

    I've watched a ton of your videos, and I just wanted to say your awesome. 80% of "professional tilers" would have ignored that 1/8-1/4 inch indentation and just added grout or silicone to the top part.
    Great job by you and I have never, ever, seen you take the short cut method and literally cut corners. Thanks for all these videos.

      Using silicone and professional tilers in same sentence. Very bold. Also are we supposed to ignore the chipped right corner? I'm sure "professional" tiler would cut it again. Like I would. And I'm not even professional.

      What chipped corner? That's the edge of the tile, his line didn't go all the way to the corner.

    This is an awesome hack to cut tile installed on an angle. I like doing tiled flooring and walls in my spare time. As a perfectionist, this out does my hand-cutting of cheap vinyl tile to make a layover template. More efficient and faster=a preferred method.
    While cardboard will work with this video method, a more substantial substrate will give a cleaner cut line.
    Don't go cheap or small on your tile saw. Good luck, Viewers. ~DT2

    Really nice of you provide instructional videos, but have you never used a speed square for measuring diagonal corners? Old school semi retired production installer here, and while your method works, I could have three or four tiles marked and ready to cut in the time it took you to make one, and they would be perfect fits.

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  10 років тому

      Sure I use a speed square all the time, this method is faster than you might think, it takes longer when doing a demonstration and explaining how it is done. If you take out all the talking, camera action, pointing etc. You are looking at 15 seconds or less to mark a tile, I think that is pretty fast. You only need to make the template once, then ig is good for the whole job.

    HI, good video and the template has saved me a lot of time. But now I have to cut a tile that goes through a doorway that is too narrow for me to lay a whole tile down behind it to take the measurement using the template. How do I measure the tile in this case?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  10 років тому +5

      When I get to those type of cuts i will either use a speed square with a small straight edge or make a patern with a piece of cardboard, or just measure it. Undercut what you can to make it as easy as possible.

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  4 роки тому

      Width does not matter, you are only gong to use the one side, if you want, the template would be a perfect square. Often times it is a good idea to make a narrow piece for tight spots.

    When you are butting wood floor into tile floor, is there a preferred side of the door threshold to make the transition. And do you ever just butt the two materials together or always use a piece of threshold material? What if the two materials are slightly out of plane? Thank you!

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  8 років тому

      All depends on the situation, if you re using a threshold yo may have that be the width of the jamb, if the floor need to meet on the same plain, then the floor transition should be halfway under the door. if the floors are not at the same height, then a transition of some kind can be used.

      Because the template is made to cut the tile net to the wall on the diagonal, but you use another tile to mark them square, if you made a template to include the width of the grout line on the square, then you would not have to allow for it.

    Hey sal, after you transfer your pencil marks with this measuring system are you subtracting or cutting 1/8 in back from those marks for your expansion joint at the base of the cabinet? Thank you for your time

      If you allow for it when you place your tile it will be all set

    How did you know which floor tile to make your original template, the first tile line and the last tile line? Also, was there room for a spacer and do you tile up to the cabinet w/ no space?

      Did you watch the video, I thought I was pretty clear on how to make the template and that the grout space was allowed for.
