  • Quick review of the Polk Audio Signa S2 Sound bar with wireless sub.
    See later in the video where sound is compared against built in tv speakers & Presonus ceres 4.5 BT speakers.
    Long story short, Sound bar sounds much better. More full range sound. No earth shattering bass. Highs are clear, and overall sound is not muffled or muddy. For a small to medium sized room it has potential to fill most of the room without getting any ear fatigue.
    Connected to tv via hdmi arc, which was very convenient and quick. Controls through TV remote.
    The voice clarity adjust function seems to work decently well, but takes a second or two before it "kicks in".
    For ~$120 paid for it, probably the best sound you can get under $300.
    If you want to pick it up check it out on amazon. May need to shop around to get the best price. Check the "used" section and see if there are anyone from amazon warehouse. amzn.to/2tnuJ2x

    I bought one this week. We compared it with the Samsung and others. This one was by far superior. Last night I turned on HBO and Battleship was playing. My god, it was like I was in a theater. The room shook with the heavy bass. My wife walked in the room because she was bothered by the walls shaking. Great buy and great sound.
    Now to the video. So much wasted time. It could've been shortened by half by discouraging distractions and wasted comments. Kid was cute and his shirt was inside out and his hair was messy, buy hey, I'm not being critical, lol.

    Just replaced my Polk Fr1 soundbar with the Signa S2. I only use the soundbar for TV viewing. I’m looking for voice clarity. I’m no audiophile so this is alright for my purposes. It is a couple of steps up in audio from the Fr1. I used optical connection since I have no HDMI ARC connection. I wonder if the audio experience is better with hdmi. I’m still leaning towards a 3.1 for more voice clarity.

    Got some cash to burn but not much and I’m hunting for a replacement sound bar with a subwoofer so this one has some gold stars on it from what I’m hearing And I like watching reviews from old to like a year ago and recent to see how people review it and seeing how this has glowing reviews I’m pretty confident this is a great soundbar/subwoofer

I love it, it feels like a 12 inch subwoofer is next to your head! One of the best birthday gifts I have ever received :)

    If people don't like the bass you can always tune the bass box with polyfill, add or remove by stuffing the box with more or less of it. Super easy to do.

    This is a great soundbar but has two FATAL flaws. First the soundbar goes into standby after 15 minutes if it receives on audio input. This means if you mute your TV for more than that time so you have to grab soundbar remote and turn back on. Second the soundbar will not turn on and off with your television after pairing so again you have to grab the soundbar remote to turn back on. Every other soundbar turns on/off with TV after pairing. Note there are no work-a-rounds for these problems.

    I felt the mids were kind of lacking in my honest opinion (based on this review). Otherwise, I think the subwoofer helps with the overall depth.
    Those monitors probably are more well-rounded (without the sub) than the soundbar, but I guess if you need a more compact setup in lieu of the bulky setup monitor speakers provide... this is worth considering.

    • @4thewinak
      @4thewinak  4 роки тому +1

      I’m not sure I fully understand your question. But the sound bar is suppose to turnoff when you turn off your tv if you have it connected via hdmi. The arc hdmi connection from the tv tells the sound bar to turn off. It’s expected behavior. Why would you not want the sound bar to turn off?

EVEN NORMAL SOUNDBARS LIKE ZOOOK, BOAT AND ZEBRONICS ARE FAR BETTER THAN THIS. I GOT THIS FOR 21K + 4K FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY. I THOUGHT OF EXCEPTIONAL SOUND OUTPUT BUT IT DISAPPOINTED ME. I've been trying to get the wattage specs from Polk Audio and they refuse. They are hiding the true power output of their equipment, probably due to weak numbers and prices out of line with competition. You are most likely getting some 80 watt garbage, tuned well enough to sound good while paying for what other companies give you 200+ watts for. I don't care if it sounds good, keeping general specs hidden from consumers is not what I expect from a trustworthy company.

    • @4thewinak
      @4thewinak  4 роки тому +1

      I'm on both sides of this point. As an engineer I agree the specs are important, but the market for a sub $150 soundbar is probably not targeted towards audiophiles, and more towards the user who walks in, takes a listen, thinks it sounds good, then buys it. That user most likely isn't thinking mosfets, opamps, THD, peak, RMS, etc, etc. On the engineer side point of this, since the market has been flooded with non-true measurements of power, it doesn't really give fair specifications. ie. the days of 1000 watt sony xplod subs were comparable JL audio 300 watts.

    • @adamnorwood8608
      @adamnorwood8608 4 роки тому +1

      @@4thewinak I can respect that, those are valid points. My issue is that it's just one series of soundbars that Polk refuses to reveal specs. They have RMS for 97% of their products, why not let people know? Especially when asked specially via email and a phone call. What I don't want is to drop $200-250 on something that has $60 value components, and I suspect that is why they won't release the numbers. And I am not the only one who has asked them, their Q&A section has multiple requests. One reply from Polk simply said that "output wattage is irrelevant for active amp systems"...what? Regardless, I am moving on from Polk... just thought a few people might want to know they are hiding something

      @4thewinak  4 роки тому +1

      I was in my location best buy and was able to try out several. I tried the Bose and some Yamaha at costco. The bose solo 5 sounds great, but not as full. They have some DSP in there that really helps try to make it up, and im sure it could work in a small room, but in anything larger than a 8x8 room it would leave you wanting something that has a sub. The solo is a bit older, but i remember trying it years ago before i had a 5.1 AVR. Sounds great, but too expensive, and the form factor was huge. it needed to be under the TV stand. You can't really wall mount the bose solo as you would a thin profile sound bar. So it really depends on what you want. For just tv watching in a bedroom a bose solo 5 would probably be great. The highs are clear, miss are good, but not a lot of low end. If you want more low end you need a sub. Since this is in my living room, i went with one that has a sub. Plus i got a super deal on it for like i think ~$120 ish.
