The day State ID’s are completely and totally FREE, delivered to your home immediately the moment you turn 18, and without hassle is the day an ID should be required to vote. Voting is RIGHT AFFORDED TO US UNDER THE CONSTITUTION. It is a right. Not a privilege, not for fun... but a right. Every single United States citizen should be registered to vote the moment they are born. Voting should be done on the weekend or be a national holiday. No one should have to wait 8 hours in a line to vote. It should be secure AND EASY. There should be nothing impeding the right to vote. If IDs are what make you people feel more comfortable (even though there is zero proof of wide spread voter fraud) then IDs must be given easily, to everyone automatically and free of cost or inconvenience. Yeah I think there is middle ground on the whole ID thing- on one side you need an ID to do most things in America and most jobs now even have their own IDs. IDs aren’t inherently evil. Wanting to verify someone’s identity is not an evil. On the other side it is difficult to obtain an ID for some people in certain areas- those are the people that need to be helped get one then- because again, an ID is required for lots of things in life now and life is easier with one than without one. I think local and state governments should go out of their way to make sure everyone has an ID. People use to be turned away at the poles all the time for some really messed up reasons- looking at an ID in a positive light, an ID noting your age, address, and citizenship actually makes it sure that nobody can turn you away from what you deserve.

The is a way to stay in power.

You dont have a right to alcohol or tobacco as a citizen but you do have the right to vote. Adding additional time and money costs to obtain a valid id has historically been used to decrease turnout in poorer areas who either cant afford it or are too busy with jobs and family to deal with additional government beauracracy. If the government issued free acceptable ID to all citizens and took the initiative to distribute them in a timely manner, sure IDs would be great. But they are not advocating for the additional access, just the requirement. There needs to be security but you cant blindly dump additional red tape hurdles between a citizen and their rights, only to render the right impractical to exercise. Your ability to vote should only have to do with being a citizen, not your bank account, job status, living situation, etc.

Even a tracking code known only to the voter does no good unless a certifiably valid copy of the ballot is generated at the moment of voting, and that just moves the fraud question another step away. There are people out there who'd say, if their guy lost, that their vote was counted incorrectly. All I know is that fraud is always possible unless we vote by roll call, and that someone can always claim fraud unless we vote by roll call. Heck, some would question arithmetic.

The day State ID’s are completely and totally FREE, delivered to your home immediately the moment you turn 18, and without hassle is the day an ID should be required to vote. Voting is RIGHT AFFORDED TO US UNDER THE CONSTITUTION. It is a right. Not a privilege, not for fun... but a right. Every single United States citizen should be registered to vote the moment they are born. Voting should be done on the weekend or be a national holiday. No one should have to wait 8 hours in a line to vote. It should be secure AND EASY. There should be nothing impeding the right to vote. If IDs are what make you people feel more comfortable (even though there is zero proof of wide spread voter fraud) then IDs must be given easily, to everyone automatically and free of cost or inconvenience.
Plus, if ID laws are going to be implemented everyone must first have an ID or every single attempt must be made to get everyone an ID BEFORE a law like that goes into effect. If not multiple thousands of legal voters will be disenfranchised.
My guess...this isn’t about election security (AGAIN...because there is literally zero evidence of wide spread voter fraud) but instead it’s about making sure certain types of people can’t vote, to make it much harder. Poor people, minorities, young people, those without cars for example are most likely to not have a state ID or drivers license. These are the types of people these laws are meant to target, to keep from voting. It can’t be because of fraud, because ALL AVAILABLE EVIDENCE tells us there is none. 🤔

How would voter ID negatively affect anyone? It would go a long way in helping to secure elections. Or maybe, voter ID would secure elections too much.
A Lot of people who live in rural areas and are most likely minority voters have to drive 50 miles or more just to go to a DMV. Many people don't have cars. And many states cut where people can vote and close offices in Areas with large minority populations. Which discourages people from voting.

Yeah I think there is middle ground on the whole ID thing- on one side you need an ID to do most things in America and most jobs now even have their own IDs. IDs aren’t inherently evil. Wanting to verify someone’s identity is not an evil. On the other side it is difficult to obtain an ID for some people in certain areas- those are the people that need to be helped get one then- because again, an ID is required for lots of things in life now and life is easier with one than without one. I think local and state governments should go out of their way to make sure everyone has an ID. People use to be turned away at the poles all the time for some really messed up reasons- looking at an ID in a positive light, an ID noting your age, address, and citizenship actually makes it sure that nobody can turn you away from what you deserve.

Before Republicans took control of the Alabama legislature in 2010. District 26 covered parts of the city and a large swath of montgomery county. Now it only covers the city of Montgomery's south , north and west sides. And that where large portions of black and Latino residents live. That wasn't done on accident. The is a way to stay in power.

You dont have a right to alcohol or tobacco as a citizen but you do have the right to vote. Adding additional time and money costs to obtain a valid id has historically been used to decrease turnout in poorer areas who either cant afford it or are too busy with jobs and family to deal with additional government beauracracy. If the government issued free acceptable ID to all citizens and took the initiative to distribute them in a timely manner, sure IDs would be great. But they are not advocating for the additional access, just the requirement. There needs to be security but you cant blindly dump additional red tape hurdles between a citizen and their rights, only to render the right impractical to exercise. Your ability to vote should only have to do with being a citizen, not your bank account, job status, living situation, etc.

Even a tracking code known only to the voter does no good unless a certifiably valid copy of the ballot is generated at the moment of voting, and that just moves the fraud question another step away. There are people out there who'd say, if their guy lost, that their vote was counted incorrectly. All I know is that fraud is always possible unless we vote by roll call, and that someone can always claim fraud unless we vote by roll call. Heck, some would question arithmetic.

I guess we are just going to ignore the part were he said "unlawful." To think that someone actually had to say in a court of law that unlawful votes put the other side at a disadvantage.
He said "unlawful interpretations" of the law. The Supreme Court is going to rule on the correct interpretation, so his arguing that a particular interpretation - one he's assigning to the (D)s - is unlawful isn't definitive. It's the very thing that's in question, so you really can't cite it as a justification for the rest of his case. It's his claim. Of course he calls it "unlawful".
