I appreciate the information in your videos about the BWSS! The 2019-2021 BWSS was high on my list when shopping for a boat recently. Couldn’t find a deal on a used one (those things really hold their value), so ended up buying something else. Like you guys, I don’t care for large boats anymore. Smaller boats are so much easier to trailer, launch, maintain, repair, modify, and store. In the rare occasion I need a larger boat, I rent one.
Glad to see you all out enjoying your Boston Whaler. I recommend 316 stainless steel steering wheel knob designed to allow easy single handed steering. Ideal for low speed control quick lock to lock. Really not alot 💰.
I owned the very same Whaler for 13 years (brand new 2009 model) and loved it. My family and I never had a boat before that we used so often, mostly because of its ease of use, easy trailering and launching, reliability, and cost of ownership. I sold it in 2022, and now I'm itching to get back out on the water again!
We bought a very low hour 2017 SS130. Your reviews were very helpful in the homework process. We thought about Jet Skis and this made much better sense for my wife and I. We wanted to haul a little comfort gear with us to the sandbar and this is like a large golf cart for the water. The bimini top is a huge plus. Enjoy your 130 videos!
Thanks for your video and for accurately portraying the boat. We have a 2016 BW130SS and love it. Upgraded from an 8 or 9 foot Zodiac with a 6 hp motor. We use it as a tender for our bigger boat and for days that we just want a quick spin on the water. We recently added bottom paint and an SE Sport 400 hydrofoil. The hydrofoil allows the boat to get on plane and stay on plane at lower speeds. It does reduce the overall top speed, but not by much. We also added deeper cup holders on the bench between the seats. We too added a second fuel tank and connected it to the fuel line with a toggle switch. The extended range and backup was important to us. Thanks again for the video, I'll have to check out your others.
I’m so glad you were liked the video. Thank you for watching. Yes, that hydrofoil makes a heck of a difference doesn’t it. And most people just talk about the positives but we wanted to make sure that people would an educated Decision based on the accuracy of truthful and real life experience of someone who actually owns this boat. 🙂👍🏼🚤🛥️ Happy Boating!
Tried to find the smaller cooler locally but could notl Can you please tell me make, mode and brand? Maybe even where you bought it??? Just love your boat! Justt traded my 29 footer for a 13 boston whaler. I'm much happierr now!! I always go out by myself and mostly fishing so it's just perfect for one!! Thanks
Hey there, thank you for making such a great video! One day I hope to own one of these someday and your video absolutely reinforced that idea. It looks like that boat can take some pretty large wakes? For now, I'm just cruising in an old 12 ft Carolina skiff which can be sketchy on the ICW with big wakes.
Thanks for the video-it was quite enjoyable. On one of your prior videos, you had mentioned some problems with the Mercury outboard. Have you had any more issues with it?
We actually have not had any more issues with it come to think about it. The great thing is that it’s still covered under warranty & as long as you keep up with the maintenance you should get a lot of use out of it. When I tell you that we use this boat a lot, it’s an understatement🤣😂 But if we run into more issues we will keep everyone posted. 😊👍🏼
Thank you so much. Yeah, this little baby perfect for downsizing because it’s still comfortable and the look of it is great. Funny enough will always get looks and compliments on this small Boston Whaler every time we go out. It still surprises me. 😊
Do not make holes in that beautiful boat for speakers. I have the same boat and I put 2 6.5” pods on the same rod holders you have. I also put an 8” sub tube under the console with an amp bolted to the inner side of the console. And yes the life jacket bag still fits nicely
My advice is to power prop that 130, Be more like a Jet Ski! You really only need to to about 17 mph. Get out the towables and have a great time, then go to the beach snd swap prop's and go crusing! I would say 3 prop's alltogether. Just have to watch to tach, but you probably have a rev limiter on the Merc.
I am looking at boats and am split between this and a center console (150 montauk)- I’d like to stand for parts of the time to see when water gets skinny. I see the driver is standing here, curious if there were any thoughts on that? Whether it was comfortable or only possible for short stretches of time etc. also, did you see the speed drop with 4 people on it? Ie does it seem like it’s underpowered? Thank you for your videos! They are very informative!
Hello, thank you for your question, So standing on this boat is just your topical standing. If you were standing on the center console you would have something behind you to lean on. But here you’re just standing with nothing to lean on. Although sitting on a center console is a little uncomfortable because I always find that the seat is always further from the helm (or steering wheel). I feel like center Consoles are made more for standing since they are considered “fishing boats”. And you gotta be on your toes for when that fish 🎣 is caught on the line. This boat is more for sitting and relaxing and enjoying the ride. So it depends on what you are looking for when you go out on the water that day. But the 150 Montauk is only 2 feet bigger (so it’s still small enough haul around with an SUV) and it’s also a great boat. I feel like you’ll have more of a division from the front and back where the 130 super sport is all connected with no division per say. Would you prefer your ride to be more intimate? Because the capacity with the 130 is 4 people and with the Montauk it’s 6. So if u wanna party then I would say the Montauk but If you wanna save on fuel ⛽️ and cleaning time, and u don’t want so many people on the boat, and u want less payments then go with the 130 super sport. 😊 🚤
It’s been a few years, Curious if you still have the 13 Sport? Did you consider the 16 Sport when you were looking? A full boat cover is a must in FL, it will protect the Gelcoat finish and Upholstery.
I have the same Boston Whaler 130 Super Sport as a secondary boat. In case you didn't know, you're sitting on the gunwale in the beginning which is illegal and very dangerous. Also it's called a bimini top. I think you mispronounced it lol. Fire extinguisher on board? Captain David - USCG
Watched all 3 of these videos. Just ordered a 130 supersport. What method did you guys use to attach your seats? I opted to not pay $2,200 for the bucket seats the dealer would install, seemed pretty stiff for two seats
So we just bought them from Bass Pro shop here in FL. And placed them on ourselves. We drilled the holes, using stainless steel screws. We used gloves and protective wear because we are drilling into fiberglass. And if any tiny particle size of that lands on you it will either itch or burn. And that’s basically it. We saved so much money doing it that way.
For the most part this boat has been very good to us. This is the 3rd video we’ve done on this boat. If you watch the second follow up video, we mentioned something that happened to the engine where it would randomly go down by itself without us pressing the button. But it was under warranty, so we sent it back to the dealer and they fixed the problem. Other than that, it’s been super great and fun. 😊
@@janetfeliciano4840 thanks. I just took delivery of a 2023 super sport 130 and can’t wait for warm weather in Minnesota to use it. Your views were super helpful to me and got me more excited.
@@REDRAIN16 aaaaww I’m so glad you got one and that the videos helped. Yeah you can’t go wrong with that super sport. I’m so excited for you. Once the weather warms up, take video of your first launch of the boat and tag us.😃😃😃
That is the Tundra 45 they have. They have the factory cooler side bracket. I have the same boat but bought the Tundra 35 model because I did not have the factory side bracket and used two Yeti tie down straps that the 35 Tundra made it easy to get the straps on both sides on and off. Yeti sells tie down kits but if you drill into the floor to mount them make sure you use a good quality marine silicone caulk or a marine urethane caulk to seal the holes you drill before screwing down the hold down brackets.
I'm in the market for this size boat and your video really helped. Knowing what you know now, would you still purchase the 13 or would you go for the 16?
Hell yeah we would pick the 13ft because it helped us to get more confident in maneuvering a boat, learning how to back it up with the trailer, and so many other things. It’s also perfect for taking it out in the lake after work for about 2 hours because it’s not big and clean up is a breeze especially after the lake. We take it out and have a quick relaxing picnic 🧺 out on the boat. The bigger it is the more cleanup, gas, payments etc. This boat gave us more confidence to now get a bigger one. But we will never sell this this one. It’s a great starter. ☺️
Just bought a used 2014 13 foot 40 hp but what I dont like is it has a 6 gallon gas tank, di you know of a bigger plastic tank for it that would fit under the seat/ bench thank you
Hello, Great videos. I’m hoping you could answer a question for me. I’m considering buying a 2016 BW 130 Super Sport to use in the local rivers off the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. The rivers are all surrounded by trees, homes and land so the water is always very calm even on stormy days. There are times we would want to have 4 people on the boat. 2 adults, an 18 yr old and a 14 yr old, both skinny lol. Both adults average weight. If we’re just looking to cruise around at easy speeds and maybe pull a tube every once in awhile, would the 130 SS handle the 4 of us in those conditions? Eventually it will be mostly 2 to 3 people on board. But for those times all 4 are aboard do you think boat could handle it? Thank you for the videos and in advance if you respond to my question!!
remember the SS 130 and 160 each have about a 1,000 lb capacity, for passenger,s etc. I grew up on an "imitation whaler" 13, with a 33 hp Johnson. Was a 160ish lb guy, and skiid with at least two others on board. did so on a mckee craft 14 with a 40 as well. so, no problems handling a skier
I bought a 2017 130 Super Sport. Took 3 people out and it struggled to get on plane. RPM's were way too low had to change from the factory 14" pitch 4 blade prop to a 12" pitch 4 blade prop. Oh my God what a difference now my rpm's are up to 5800 at full throttle instead of the engine bogging with the factory prop and only reaching 4700 rpms. The design rpms for the 40hp four stroke EFI Mercury is from 5500 to 6000 at wide open throttle. Any less than that your boat is propped wrong. The factory prop had too much pitch for the engine to perform properly. I think Whaler does this so they can brag about gas millage but I'd rather have top all around performance and have not seen any difference in gas millage.
Wow the first video where people show the boat and give us a feel for what its like being on it and moving around it. Great job! Thank you!
