@@superstimulatedminotaur3681 I mean, I like the artwork both of them produced, but let's be honest. A country boy rock 'n' roller musician from rural Arkansas and a speed freak filmmaker from Queens probably aren't natural pals. They might be, but that's a pretty big gap to overcome.
The true essence of rock and roll and why it was such a powerful social force (and something we need again) is it was a true mixing of white/black culture, influences and rhythms,. It was the blues from the rural blacks, the R&B from the urban blacks, and the country and western from the whites.
I have always thought that this is the most articulate explanation of the origins of rock and roll. The true sign of a master of their craft is that they can explain something that is very complex in a very simple way :-) A rare talent who is deeply missed.
Damn it looked such a great environment, this shan gri la in california, near the beach, pooltable, a studio, a bar and a lot of friends ... Those guy had a very nice life !
@@fgsp8909 I’m not denying they made some good money during their heyday but the biggest money is in publishing not touring. Like I said, this was their high water mark unfortunately. Believe me, I wish they had all been rich the rest of their lives simply because their music has brought a lot of joy and I’m sure they sacrificed a lot for their music.
Levon’s account of this interview describes himself as being furious at Scorcese and Robertson, not cooperating with the questions, glaring back.... honestly I don’t get that at all here lol.
He was too much of a gentleman to be openly surly, but there are a few moments in the film when there is tension. When Scorsese asks them about women on the road, Levon gets a bit uptight about it ("I thought we weren't supposed to talk about that"), but doesn't become hostile. He was probably unhappy about the situation of the film and The Band breaking up, but in his memoirs he probably blew it up a bit in his mind, or remembered it the way he wanted to remember it - one of his close friends and musicians was quoted as saying that when Levon got a notion in his head, it was hard to get him off of it. In the end, only he and Robbie really know what happened between them, and Levon's not around to comment on it anymore.
Levon talking to Martin Scorsese is the coolest thing.
Levon doesn't have very positive things to say about him in his book. I think he mentioned telling Marty to F off when he asked him a certain question

In under one minute, he perfectly defined what rock and roll is.
He is my all time crush. I swear I just adore him ❤️

Levon’s singing and speaking voice is therapy
That smile when he says rock and roll. Hell yes!

Right on Brother. Rock and Roll.
So beautifully put. I've never heard another explanation that encompasses the whole of what rock truly is. Love it!🙏🏽🤗👊🏽
No Color in Music.
I’ve thought the same. Good comment.
I love the pool balls in the background
And the only thing one can add to this masterful explanation is: AMEN.
I keep watching this movie again and again...
Best explanation of Rock and Roll I've ever heard 👏
Early Rock & Roll. The greatest thing America came up with.
The real genius
Martin, you plonker! Fair play for leaving it in the final cut tho' .Very funny moment. Thanks fresh for upload. Levon rest in peace

But they lived very poor for a long time to get to this point, it only lasted a few years, and was never this good again. Except for Robertson.
@@lewstone5430 I mean they were a band touring the world with bob dylan in 1966 so from at least 1966 to 1980 they were rich .
