    My wife and I did some research on an old stone house that I was rebuilding and we found the local library in the county had a Historical Society that provided us with a great starting place. Tax records at your county office building will also provide some interesting information. In our case, the home was built in 1792 which came with a ton of history. It was located on an old dirt road that was rarely used and part of what was known in the early 1800's as the Newburg Turnpike in northeastern PA and at one point was used as a travelers Inn.

      There is a local historical museum in town that we need to check out. They have very limited hours, but we are hoping they might have some information. We would love to get in touch with the family that last lived there and get some pictures. Your stone house sounds so cool. The stories it could tell. Thanks for watching!

    What a beautiful house you have found. Pity about the less than sound 1980 extension. But it gives you a fabulous opportunity to put your own mark on the replacement! I look forward to traveling along on the journey as you expand the possibilities of your beautiful home.❤

      Thank you so much for watching! We completely agree, such a shame it was left to decay, but at the same time a great opportunity for us to make it our own.

    Okay, you’ve convinced me, I’m subscribing, holy cow! Firstly, you’ve bought yourselves a really cool place, I mean, how often can you find a place like this? You really can’t cheap out on additions to such a solid space like this, I mean, it’s a tank!

      Thanks, we think it's pretty cool too! It's definitely going to take time, we want to make sure we can afford to do it right. It's amazing how solid the original structure is. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

    So glad your video popped up on my feed. I love old homes and you two have a gem right there. Very nice to meet you & I look forward to more videos. On top of all that it's in NC which is one of my favorite states. Lived in Candler, Hendersonville & Mt Airy back in the 60's & 70's and I just loved the mtns and the spring water was awesome to drink. Have a Great Day!

    The original house looks pretty spacious and in great shape. I would just do away with that addition. The property is beautiful!!! I have an old farmhouse in texas its been a work in progress for 12 years it just takes time and money and patience. I love it though its a solid old girl!!!they dont build things like that anymore. God bless you on the journey looks like you found a diamond in the rough needing some love but oh what a treasure!!! Love from texas❤

      Thank you for the encouragement! I bet your home is stunning, older properties are so unique. And you’re exactly right, the sturdiest part of our house is the part that was built 120+ years ago. Thank you for watching!

    I just found your channel today and looking forward to following you. I like your farm and house it will be great when you get it like you want it. The Pecan wood is excellent for barbecue especially Chicken it has a mild flavor, but not too bitter like some others and by the way I like your brand of tractors and vehicles

      I'm fond of green paint, and for some reason I'm a sucker for the General. We've had to take down some pecan trees that were randomly planted by squirrels, and we used it to smoke meat and it's great. Thanks for watching!

    At least with having to replace the addition you will be able to build it back to look or match better to the log home. It is a beautiful house waiting to become a home with love and care. Good luck.

    If you'll plant pecan trees closer together, they'll hold each other up. I know that because I was raised in TX. Once you get done with the house repairs, you can look up the pecan trees. 😊

      That is great information, we're thinking of planting pecan trees lining both sides of the driveway. We will have to look into how close they should be. Thanks for watching!

Living in it although its far from complete and pretty hard living conditions but we will get there! Im in my 60s so this is my retirement home. Ha that sounds weird it sounds like a nursing home. I live in my youngest son and daughter in love's backyard

    The expression “don’t judge a book by its cover” comes to mind. Love the log cabin elements but boy oh boy you do have a job on your hands beyond that front door! I don’t wonder your wife was skittish in there! The great room has real potential and is just lovely with the two fireplaces. I’ll bet it’ll look fantastic decorated for Christmas.

    love the old cupboards in the kitchen, they look like they are salvageable, hope you don't destroy them, kitchen being the original should be easier to restore/renovate;
    hope you keep some of the originals; paint always fixes an awful colour
    good idea to remove the back of the house & start that again or just put the porch back on it
    lovely property you have bought yourselves
    thanx for sharing

    I just happened upon your channel as we drove through Stovall today on the way to Virginia (we live in Durham). There is a small church in Stovall that is for sale and the back story mentioned wealthy New Yorkers that had built a near by hunting cabin. Could this be connected? Too cool. Best of luck on your journey!

      That’s very cool! We’ll have to look more into that, we have very minimal information about the origin of the house, so that is one of the only theories we’ve heard so far. Thank you for sharing!!

    Go to the company that closed your purchase.
    Ask them if you can sit for a bit to read your abstract. They may send you to an abstract company.
    Then, take your camera and learn the complete history of the property.
    I worked at a closing company and an “abstract” is all documents pertaining to your property, from the first purchase.
    Ours actually went back to before statehood (Oklahoma). Every deed, with the owners names, will be in there. This may not pertain to every state, but I have done this with every property I’ve owned.

    • @twoheronsfarm
      @twoheronsfarm  7 місяців тому

      We had never heard of doing that before, that is a great idea! When you say closing company, do you mean closing attorney, or someone else? We will definitely have to look into that. Thank you for watching!

      Thank you for watching! Definitely a long journey ahead, but we're excited about it. We had a conversation with a builder this week, and he also recommended we tear down the addition as soon as possible. So even though that wasn't on our short list, I guess it is now!

      Thanks for watching! Yes, our county has all the tax records online and it would be theoretically simple to get that information, but unfortunately it is proving to be difficult that way. We're hoping we can get information from people who lived in the area a long time and connect with the family of the former residents.

    Hey you are not living in a safe environment with the water damage you more likely have black mold and the critters poop upstairs isn’t healthy. I wouldn’t be staying in the house till that back in is off and the upstairs cleaned up. You need mold experts to assess the back of the home. Stay healthy and do it right.
