djaceproductions I actually use a combo of the 2 ...I have the Mackie tops and 4 of the EV subs and we got great performance in an outdoor venue....the sax player sounded fan freakin tastic about 150 feet out and that was a lot in the midrange frequency....clear and detailed ....
I am telling you folks there is no reason to see any more comparisons with these speakers with the QSC 153 or Jbl PRX 835 and you could definitely hear the comparison with the EV in this video. My record Guitar Center did all the comparisons except the JBL SRX because I was not interested in horizontal coverage of 60 degrees. Same as EV. I did however do the JBL and QSC and Mackie does not close
I don't know, it might be the room (or is it a sort of garage?), or it may even be the track, but for home listening... after this demo I am solidly keeping my neumann's 3 way monitors + subs!!!!
when you gave your Explanation , you mention the combination of the mackie vs the EV sounded louder. just so I'm understanding you correctly the mackie sub gets louder than the ETX sub ? thanks
The ETX Sub is the best in its class, the closest thing to the LS801P as I do own them both. However keep in mind the Mackie 3 way could be louder in terms of SPL vs EVs Clarity
I have the Mackie drm315 and they sound dam good indoor and outdoor or even better than the ev, most people don't know how to use powered speakers or even know how to set them up or know how to use the right gain or controls to operate the power speakers they just plug and play on a cheap controller then trash the power speakers..lol.SMH..😂😂😂😂
this is what i am thinking of settling on , i will go for the JBL SRX835P 2000W 15" 3-way Powered Speakers and Electro-Voice ETX-18SP 1800W 18" Powered Subwoofers what do you guys think?
I used the mackie active 18 subwoofer swa1801 old school version plus the 1530 tops for 800 plus gigs I must say they never missed a beat and held up to the torture of a 4 piece rock band with excellent sound quality ,I highly recommend this combination , we were always given great feedback about the sound quality. I wouldnt touch the late model stuff , too many cheap components in them trust me they will let you down .
Great video John. As you said "Subjective". Using ear buds, Actually I thought the Mackie's had a touch more on the(highs's) over the EV's... I bought a pair of QSC HPR's 153i, HPR's118i and a pair of HPR's 121i back in early 2008. Though they are a bit bigger and heavier than the QSC KW series I think they are Still the beter sound. They have still held their Value. I spoke to a QSC Tech and he told me that because they are an analog amp/speaker that they are a few milliseconds faster than the QSC K's or KW's which are a Digital amp/ speaker and should not be used with the newer models side by side unless they are used in back of house as fillers... Greg
Its funny that you mention never having a client asking about what kind/why I use a certain brand of speakers. Ive had it happen twice, recently. Both times it was because they were impressed with the quality of the audio. One was at a bar, and the other was a wedding. The guy that normally played the bar was using Seismic Audio gear, while I run Cerwin Vega's new CVE line.
I’ve been asked several times what brand of speakers I’m using. I use Qsc Kw153 tops and kw 181 and always get compliments. It’s varied from Djs to live bands and most are using mackie
Both sound pretty bad in that small room, to be honest. However, not all of us have a nearby music store with any kind of selection. So I appreciate the demo nonetheless.
pls JOHN can you compare EV ETX & JBL SRX 3 way speakers AND their respective SUBS head to head. I need to buy one of these for live application in church but am confuse. help!
O'Neill Benson go listen yourself....and like he said, it depends on your budget ....even this test isn’t 100 percent as he said....a good operator who knows his eq can make either rig, or the JBL sound amazing, it’s not always the best speaker that wins the day. I own the ETX subs (4) and the Mackie DRM315 and they work very well together.
Can I get your thoughts on the Mackie HD1801 subs? I'm a mobile DJ who gigs at bars doing karaoke, 4 to 6 weddings per year and small live sound gigs like neighborhood parties. I like your product review videos and I think you know your stuff, so any help is appreciated!
Wondered why you did not use a complete ETX setup but an EKX sub? The EKX sub has less output power than the ETX and the sound balance between the tops and the sub is based on having the same series. This is the only remark
I have a question. So I’ve been starting my journey as a DJ and I’m considering selling my older peavey Mains, I am considering getting a set of powered speakers and then a set of passive subs because I will be getting passive subs for my setup for 120 dollars. That sounds low but they are peavey low rider 18’s. But should I get powered speakes for mains?
Just curious..... any reason you dont use the ETX line vs using the EKX... personally I think the ETX sounds far and away better... Funny thing though now I use RCF which sounds phenomenal... Great job on the videos!
Ev more clear and more Bass one thing that I know about Ev is for higher levels of sound it's not too good it gives you all the power in the beginning about for higher levels not as good.Qsc powerful all the way through in my opinion mackie is okay they're coming back with new models
That sounds terrible!! How can we hear the speakers performance with those room acoustics and whatever you recorded it on? It was that bad I thought 2 songs were playing at the same time. And I'm listening through decent headphones and quality maxed out?
Excellent review bro. 👍! Evs did sound better. But that's a lot of money. I rather buy the original Mackie's ThumpAs with the sub. For around $1499 all 3. New technology is not always the best. Thank you brother. God bless 🙏!
@@josealfredfernandes yeah I know, the subs on the other hand which would be the 828sp subs kick ass especially for the price but I’m talking about sound wise overall the srx do limit a lot and that’s annoying honestly because I know it can get louder
Yeah. Sure you will be amazed with Ferrari too. Give me money and I will buy them. Otherwise why do you even bother to mention speakers that are 3 times more expensive? And Fuction One are better speakers form KV2 audio anyways. So there is that.
If you're not using an Oscope to measure your input/output voltage to find clipping and then setting a max volume.... You should just buy the cheaper speaker! Bc if you don't know what your doing, I can make a cheaper speaker sound better than an expensive one if it's not setup and tuned properly! That's what separates the pros from the newbies or hacks! So much more goes into good loud CLEAN sound than just buying more expensive equipment! So many people have no idea what a true audio engineer can do in tuning an audio system. It's night and day. Even goes in to the quality of the tracks you're playing. You start with a flac file, or at least 320 CD quality, then hook up Oscope to the output of your source (decks) play the song and go up on your Channel trim setting a safe level NOT NEAR THE RED! orange...then you hook Oscope to master out and gain up the master volume until it clips and then back it down a bit... Then you go to your sound board. Set your out put fader at unity, as well as the master, then input gain up until you clip out of your main outs from board, back down before clipping....then you go to your speakers and gain up till it peaks....the back down down untill your clean there....then you know every signal from each piece of equipment is set to CLEAN power and NOTHING is clipping. That way u know you have a MAX level set, where nothing will clip and distort...and you will have the system set to get as much volume as possible with CLEAN POWER! Tuning is EVERYTHING!
You need your ears looking at, I run a hire company and have listened to a lot of speakers over the years but have never found an active EV speaker I liked, their build quality was atrocious for the sector of the market they were trying to sell in to. To be fair to EV their wireless microphones gave Shure worthy competition, but again fell short
pls JOHN can you compare EV ETX & JBL SRX 3 way speakers AND their respective SUBS head to head. I need to buy one of these for live application in church but am confuse. help!
The EVs are clearer, in all the ranges its brighter, could be the eq-ing in the processor. i want fidelity in my sound.

EV's win just a cleaner, quicker, punchier sound ... but the DRM's are beast when it comes to a DJ'ing aspect.
It's a 400 dollar difference so it shouldn't be placed in the same category

The three way has a very narrow coverage pattern compared to the 2 way, or so I’ve heard

d&b Audiotechnik V10P + VG Sub the best point source 4 way system in the market, obviously with D80 amplifier.
