Mackie thought of everything. I love the fact that you can record your show. Great item. I love that you have low medium an highs. I love hearing all parts, well as much as I can hear.
This looks like a great device! An idea for a future video: Organization of all this gear + load-in/load-out. I'm always curious how folks pack all their cables, mics, gear, etc. It becomes a lot 😆
I'm packing for a gig now. Very easy, everything I use with this band is in a single bag. Bag, amp, guitar+stand, folding cart. I never "borrow" from the bag between gigs, and always put everything back in at the end of the gig. I have a list on my phone and prior to leaving I'll double check anyway. Same when I have to haul a PA - list, dedicated cable bag, bigger cart. I have an extra cable bag that I sometimes bring with extras of a few cables, pedal power supplies, 9v batts, just in case one craps out. Sometimes another guy needs a replacement, too. It happens and I don't carry my soldering kit with me. I don't use many pedals so that makes things easier. I'm disorganized in a lot of other ways, but I really don't want to be missing something at a gig. That's the worst.
Fast becoming a fan of your channel. Always clear and concise! The breakout box is brilliant. I could see it making sound check very easy with a reasonably long cat 5 cable!
Great review as always Scott! I'm fully in the EV camp but I'm glad to see Mackie finally getting creative again. I wonder if this is due to the purchase of Mackie by Rode. Wouldn't be surprising!
Oh I had no idea that purchase even happened! And yeah, I was impressed with Mackie at NAMM this year for sure! I’ve used their FreePlay before and loved them
Great Review Scott was hoping I would see this from your channel. Picked mine up 2 weeks ago. Set up in 17 minutes, complete teardown in 12. Loving the sound so far. Looking forward to gigging with it as a solo act. Cheers.
I knew when I saw your Namm video and saw this speaker you were definitely going to review it someday! Love all of your reviews. Such a great all in one speaker!!
Great and thorough review, I also loved the quick overview in the intro! Personally, I would love a version of this that caters more towards live electronic musicians, so maybe only one mic input and then a buch of stereo inputs for machines like the Elektron Octatrack or similar machines. The inability to add FX on the last input is a shame, I would have loved to use this box as a final "mastering" limiter.
I often don’t do comparisons because 1) in my mind, they all sound good and 2) I suggest watching videos to see which one has the features that applies most to you and make your decision based on that. Sound quality of this was great and it’s 400W 👍

@@ScottUhlMusic have to put the gain on 2 on a vocal mic and the master at 3/4. I really wanted to like it, but to my ears it just sounds terrible and woofy. No reach. Thanks for replying!
I've heard some very negative reviews of both this speaker and even the EV. I'm keeping my old Bose S1s. They're tough as nails, loud, easy to operate, and have performed flawlessly even on my international travels. There's a old saying. Whenever you introduce more things to an existing system, the more there is to go wrong.
What about the total output it gives? In your opinion, what size of a crowd would this be suitable for in acoustic gigs? (both indoor and outdoor) I am using a Boss RC 30 and V8 as pedals.
so surprised at how many features it has! It was very very well thought out and has all the features any busker could want. I'd be interested if that 10hr battery per charge is accurate though...especially at higher volumes, or with a lot of bass....but still even if it gave you half that, it's still incredible!
Damn. I thought I had decided on the EV Everse 8 for my solo stuff. It's great, plus it would dovetail into my Evolve 50M setup as a monitor when doing bigger stuff. But now I have to rethink that plan because of this Mackie Showbox. Going to do a little more research on it. I didn't catch if you mentioned the wattage or SPL. It REALLY could simplify a solo setup. Thanks again Scott--always helpful!
In terms of features (4 channels, breakaway mixer and a few others) I would also have been very interested in the ShowBox, for myself as a solo acoustic/electric performer and singer with stompbox percussion. I even had the unit in my shopping cart at Thomann…until I read the first reviewer (here in Germany) who only gave it one star (!) based on sound, and instead bought an Everse 8. This convinced me to give up on the ShowBox, since I, too, fortunately (and very happily) own and use an Everse 8 as my main speaker (also have a Bose S1 Pro and a JBL PRX One for certain situations), and its sound is absolutely phenomenal: full range, easily tweakable, transparent, punchy and loud… I would only have been tempted to add a ShowBox to my options if its sound is maybe at least 80% as good, but that apparently isn‘t the case. I‘d propose you try an Everse 8 first and see if anything is missing for you. It also offers a heck of lot of features.
@@scottbecker3485 I bought the Mackie based off of a couple positive videos but I had some static issues with it and the sound was subpar after having owned the Bose S1 for several years. I used these for my bar show and the acoustic set. So for small/mid sized venues. I think it would work for your setup. And you can connect via the mix out to another speaker 🤘
strange it has stereo inputs as you showed, but no panning? I suppose the headphones out is stereo, but that's different. I wonder about that xlr mix out you showed. Don't know if that one can be used to link to a second speaker, and would it be the same signal or stereo. Also the recordings or streaming, are they mono or stereo. Otherwise, why have stereo inputs?
@@alvarohernandez2764 My guess is its for the SD card and audio interface stereo recording function. A big improvement would be to offer a cheap slave speaker to pair it with and add an audio interface with individual audio inputs and outputs for DAW's
Have you tried the EON One Compact? I have a JBL PRX ONE + EON ONE MK2 and hoping to use the One Compact as a wedge since it'll talk to my app with the other two seamlessly. EV is killing it right now but the channels on the JBLs and price point made it the right choice for me.
@ so I’m a music bingo host, trivia host and emcee. My use case is midsize to large bars. My thought was to use the showbox as my main speaker at the DJ booth with me and use two Thump Gos daisy chained from it using wireless XLR transmitters/receivers in the middle of the bar and the other end. I could never get enough out of it to make that work. However, I use a Bose S1 pro+ with the same set up in the same bars and it sounds awesome. Enough for medium hall with 100 people?
Yup 👍
Hi Scott. What size venue would this work for volume wise? Also, would it be a good shout for a duo with backing tracks doing rock covers (guitar, 2 vox & backing tracks) and finally, can you use a 2nd speaker if you need one stage left and stage right? Cheers
I used these for my bar show and the acoustic set. So for small/mid sized venues. I think it would work for your setup. And you can connect via the mix out to another speaker 🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks Scott, much appreciated as always.
Can it be used in stereo with extra speaker?
I’m not sure. If you get a separate mixer, of course. But with the built in one? I’m not sure
strange it has stereo inputs as you showed, but no panning? I suppose the headphones out is stereo, but that's different. I wonder about that xlr mix out you showed. Don't know if that one can be used to link to a second speaker, and would it be the same signal or stereo. Also the recordings or streaming, are they mono or stereo. Otherwise, why have stereo inputs?
@@alvarohernandez2764 My guess is its for the SD card and audio interface stereo recording function. A big improvement would be to offer a cheap slave speaker to pair it with and add an audio interface with individual audio inputs and outputs for DAW's
The build quality looks suspect. Is it made from brittle plastic? How long before it breaks?
The build quality feels great on this thing 👍
How is it as a monitor?
I haven’t tried it, so I’m not sure
Is it stereo or can be linked into stereo?
I would use an external mixer and go to two of these, one left and one right if you want to do it in stereo 👍
This looks like a dynamite product! How’s the volume?
Thanks
Works great! 400W of power, it’s not a massive speaker, but it works well for small/mid sized locations with solo/duo acts 👍
I haven’t tried those, but I’m always interested in trying out gear!
@@ScottUhlMusic hopefully you get your hands on em! SEND HIM THE GOODS JBL! LOL
I bought one great amp but am only getting 5 hours out of the battery when busking
Not good enough
Weird, mine definitely survives longer than that. I would ask Mackie
Better than bose pro???
I recommend watching videos on both and seeing which features appeal to you the most for your setup 👍
Be nice if that break away mixer was wireless.
They have a battery powered mixer I want to check out!
Shame the mixer isnt a Bluetooth connection?
It has a Bluetooth input 👍
👍
Sent mine back. It’s not loud enough at all.
“Loud enough” depends on what you are trying to use it for. It was great for all my needs, but always get the right speaker for the job 👍
It just feels like the showbox should at least be able to match the Bose in that use case and it doesn’t even come close.
Good idea….but MONO is boring😂
You can get two of these, and also, it seems more targeted to solo performers, where mono makes the most sense. I do most things in mono live 👍
So cool, thanks for the info! Keep the great work!
