It was written in. It's the 'director; continuity' schtick. Why do all the drones think it was flubbed? I swear people have lost their ability to read nuance and subtlety.
Holy fuck!!! There is so much going on here!!! Ther era!, the actors!, the genre!, SNL!, the genius! There are some hidden gems from 80’s SNL to be rediscovered!
I can't help but say that Dana Carvey is super cute here! ❤️ Still to this day he looks wonderful. But I guess my heart will always be Phil's 💔 It's amazing about his acting that he never said the same line in a same way during the next takes. God, how life can be surprisingly sad... Watching Phil and Robin together 💔 May they both rest in peace... Greetings from Poland to all of you! 🇵🇱
How does this only get 200K views after 8 years? Dennis Miller looked like he was in his early 20’s, Phil Hartman and Robin Williams are standing side by side and both have passed away, but Billie Eilish gets 1.1 billion views!
Hartmann's reaction of horror when his "Godfrey" accidently speaks the "adieu" line is also hilarious. 3:20 - I can't make out this response by Lovitz.
What are you senile? Of course not, I haven't even seen Africa! I'm still laughing and giggling. So good. Hard to believe Jon and Phil upstage Robin. And Phil is playing the straight man! But Robin is Robin and only he can do what he does for that scene.
Hartman, Carvey, Lovitz. Talk about Mount Rushmore compared to today’s show. Even Dennis Miller doing the “take 1” and Nealon on the camera. My favorite cast ever. Walk in Myers, Sandler, Rock, Schneider, Farley. Perfection.
@@sol.f When I see him now all I think of is Wayne's World. But watching this clip I was like daaaaamn why did I ever notice he was pretty hot in his day?
Yeah. This was only his fifth episode, so he was still pretty green. Probably the first time he had been in a situation like that on SNL of trying to smooth over a flub and then have the other actor go after him with ad libs. You could tell he tried to make his smile look like the character's natural reaction to the director, even though that clearly wasn't the type of character he was playing.
1:04 Williams flubs his line describing the armistice papers, Phil corrects him because he realizes the mistake is big enough to matter, as this dialogue is not supposed to be about declaring a war, but about ending the war. Robin Williams then ad libs, calling the "continuity" people to fix the error, and Phil Hartman struggles to contain his laughter.
Depression is real, man. We gotta make sure to check in with folks (even the ones we don’t talk to often). And also reach out with all we got when we become victim to it.
@@StarWarsMomentsit’s just an inane, idiotic comment that gets reposted on tons of SNL clips. The show has been done entirely on cue cards since the very beginning, since lines change right up to the last minute before air. Most people are idiots who don’t understand how it works.

Not to mention Dana Carvey and Dennis Miller
I know, right!!! Love it too!

How about Kevin Nealon on Camera
All at the height of their powers. :) Killer.
1:07 Robin says .."deliver the declaration of war papers" and Phil corrects him "the armistice papers" then Phil almost breaks when Robin says "pardon me, continuity!" Robin improvising from a flubbed line gets a huge laugh.
Hartman was a consummate professional. Williams’ improvisational nature is not a fit with the “just read the cards” style of SNL.
That is a great observation. I missed it the first time but watched it again and laughed.
Yeah that was a great lay up between the two
Damn that's the only time I've seen Hartman break character!! That's how powerful Robin Williams humor was!!
@@blueartistathotmail - You think far too little of the performers. And it was scripted in. It's the 'director; continuity' schtick.

I’ve been watching SNL since 1979. The acting from this cast was simply the best.
I concur, best cast by far
What are you senile?

"I haven't even seen France." Might not have made sense.

The comedic acting here is just pure perfection. Not once did I spot anyone looking at a cue card, and if they did it was brief...

This is the most accurate representation of a director I've seen in a comedy sketch
Robin Williams and Dana Carvey were good friends from their early comic days before fame
This might have been the funniest thing to come out of 1987 😉
"Spaceballs: The Movie", is good, as is "Master Thespian Sketches, in Review. 1987 Edition."

When the SNL cast was the best
Robin Williams was far too funny for SNL. That he even appeared on the show was a grace to them.
Phil Hartman and Lovitz are just as funny and able to convey comedy. This was a group effort
During this period of SNL, there was plenty of comedic firepower to match Williams.
This is a little before Good Morning Vietnam gave Williams his massive career resurgence to his 2nd era of superstardom
