"Dreams" is my favorite Recon track, followed by "Take Us Away" I had this on cassette for years until I grabbed a used CD from a co-worker. I believe they got together in the past couple years to jam around. They sound as good now as they did 30+ years ago. Recon shared personnel with Deliverance and were also contemporaries, label mates of them, Vengeance Rising, Sacred Warrior, and Bloodgood. if you liked this, would check out Armageddon "Money Mask"
Back in the late '80s and early 90s I promoted many Christian metal bands in the high desert of California. I had the great honor of putting on a concert with Recon which was their first. I was as impressed with them as you are and they have been a band that I wish would have had more longevity.
I have an umpteenth recorded demo cassette with the song "Dreams" on it but it was performed by a band called DeRoque. I believe a Steve DeRoque was the singer. I dug his voice, a bit of Dio in it. My neighbor here in New York, Dean went out to California to try to get into that Christian metal scene. I don't recall what band or bands he showed his skills to, but he didn't end up staying on the West Coast.
Sadly Recon released only one album. Shortly after it's release, one of the guitarists, George Ochoa, and the bass player, Mike Grato joined the Christian thrash metal band Deliverance. Behind Enemy Lines is one of my favorite metal albums of all time.
Great band. Great album. Bought it when it was released. Wore the cassette out. Found it on CD several years ago. As a longtime Christian metal fan, there were many cheesy bands out there. But Recon was legit. One of the tightest bands in this genre. Behind Enemy Lines is still on my rotation to this day. I would encourage anyone into this band to also check out Deliverance, Sacred Warrior, Tourniquet, and Vengeance Rising.
First time heading these guys. I remember the cover art but didn't check them out. Unfortunate because that song alone was worth it. I'll have to check that album out later
This Recon is a Christian power metal band from Los Angeles and Behind Enemy Lines is the only album they released and it came out it 1990. There is another band called Recon that came along years later but they’re a hardcore/metalcore band and in no way connected to this Recon. Apparently there is a rap/hip-hop artist called Recon also. This entire Behind Enemy Lines album is a banger!!!
Recon was a one and done band. Most of the members went on to play in other Christian bands. George Ochoa (guitarist) went on to play with Deliverance, Mortification and Vengeance Rising. And recently formed a band called Worldview along with singer from Sacred Warrior, Rey Parra. Worldview now has listed Michael Drive (Barron Cross) as their singer. Their is a new band that George formed called M24 but this could just be Worldview with Michael Drive. If you really like the singer Rod Arias he went on to front Shades of Crimson, Final Decree, Drangonrider and lastly New Eden. Christian metal bands tend to come and go and the members tend to join other bands. I personally wish they had put out more albums but from reading comments from George he wasn't happy with the style of music he was playing. And yes I know he went on to some very big thrash bands but even then he wasn't happy. He really likes progressive metal.
Yes, Shane, you SHOULD listen to the whole album. You won’t regret the time spent and your ears will thank you and the band will spank you. A classic metal masterpiece.
I loved this album! Bought it way back in the day. I think it was in 1989 or 1990. Great Christian metal! I saw them live in 2001 at the Cornerstone Festival! I also got to meet them at there merch tent. Got there autograph! On the the cd!
Dreams is their best song, IMO. Takes us away is good too. They did a remake on Dreams; but IMO, it wasn't as good as the original. Recon only had the one album. That's too bad, as they were pretty good. I still listen to these old classic christian metal bands.
You hear that massive reverb vocals that were popular at this time. That album was pleasing. Sounds too much to a „brothers elefante“ production. Not sure anyone, if that was produced by them. The mastering sounds as petra at that time.
Loved Recon! Thank you for doing this. How about a reaction for Christian hardcore/punk band The Crucified’s songs Mindbender or A Guy In A Suit And The Pope.
Loved it when it came out, sad they only had one album!
Take Us Away...Dreams...are two of the best.
I know this is way late, but I had to chime in here and say that Dreams is their best song, IMO, and very relatable.
Eddie Starline....Where is part 2. I miss those old Sanctuary days
Yes I wish they would have put out more albums
“Alive” is great, too!

Recon Dreams is really cool too. 😎👍
Oh, wow dude I forgot all about money mask!! That was pretty cool! Liked recon better but still 😎 cool

Fantastic masterpiece of ab album

Vet Roberts has a very Helloween vocal style. My best friend loves this song so much.
Here in 2024, still an incredible album, having George and Mike helped a bunch. But all were great musicians honestly. One album was just NOT enough.
I have this on orange vinyl. Awesome record!
This album and band is a treasured find I have. I bought it in a used bin because of the cover. Some of the members are now in Worldview.

A friend always called them a Christian version of Queensryche
Yeah never thought of them as a Queensryche sound myself. To me it was more of a Fates Warning (First couple of albums) sound.
You can listen some of the old members playing in a newer band named "Worldview", the have good stuff also
Recon always reminded me of Hittman
oh just listen to Hittman;s song Metal Sport pretty damn good!
I wonder y only one album this band could have been bigger

I simply enjoy the whole album, just great!
Analise is my daughter's name my name is Jake

or The Blamed's version of A guy in a suit and the pope!
You're too much buddy. Love what you have to say talking about the bands and such. You're awesome bro.
Killer band and album! The band is no longer together but this album is killer! Used to have this album but someone ripped me off! Awesome video!
Doooont do it, Dooont do it lolololol
Sub español ...los videos
Never heard of these guys....not a bad looking bunch based on the photo, and I thought the song was a decent jam...definitely old school and solid. 🤘
You chose the worst song on the album. Keep digging into this album.
