  • Had a growing infestation of Aiptasia. I say "had" because my new filefish seems to have eradicated them all! Spotlighting this fantastic, unusual and most-useful creature.

    What is that beautiful iridescent blue fish (looks like a wrasse)?

    • @LushSaltyAquariums
      @LushSaltyAquariums  Рік тому

      Yes it is a large simple green wrasse or Margarita wrasse. It has other names. I got it as a 2 inch specimen. Grew huge!

    How long did it take for it to start eating the aiptasia? Had mine for about 4 days and it’s done nothing.

    • @LushSaltyAquariums

      It will take longer than 4 days. At first I thought mine wasn't doing anything either...

      You will see the effect after 2 weeks. Once the aipstasia gone, filefish easily eat frozen food and very hardy. But some filefish also nip corals usually polyps and acroporas

    curious to know if the aiptasia would come back without the filefish in there. I.e. if they were really eradicated or if the fish just keeps them mowed down.

    • @LushSaltyAquariums
      @LushSaltyAquariums  3 роки тому +1

      Good question. I haven't seen aiptasia in some time but I know they are likely to come back if file fish dies or other circumstances occur that stimulate them. Nothing else really works like filefish or copperbanded butterfly fish. Chemicals kill one but spread pieces. lasers and wands provide momentary thrill but are costly are in efficient.

    Next, get rid of thoise Asterina starfish! Theyll take over. When you see them, pull them out. They multiply rapidly and will eat some corals, especially Zoas and SPS.
