After Aptasia they always go for Acans, softies, zoa's.

Mine was eating Milka stylo, acro polyps, and favia. The tank was full of aiptasia large and small, that he did not touch. Also not easy to catch, due to how wary they are. These fish are a serious gamble, have a plan to get them out of your tank

File fish to me is to be "rented". After having my tank being inundated with aptasia, I want to my Lfs to see if I can get a filefish for temporary duty . I could, I did, and they did the job. I gave it back after they went after corals.

Great fish for eating aptasia. Then when thats gone, zoas and anything else that takes their fancy. Shouldn't be a long term recommendation imo.

They will eat scolys. I’ve had many over 20 years of keeping reef tanks. File fish are 50/50 at best. The best way to get rid of aptasia are many many berghia. They are not a quick fix but aptasia are all they eat.

Definitely not a quick fix, and there is caution involved with adding them, but will get the job done. Thanks for checking out the video.

@@TheCoralReefTalk no problem. I’ve had some success with file fish but the won’t eat the aptasia into extinction due to the fact that aptasia will grow in places the file fish can’t get into. The same is true with peppermint shrimp. If you have a good file fish I congratulate you. The best solution I have found are berghia. It takes a long time for them to establish a colony but in the end there’s no risk to corals and berghia eat the foot of the aptasia and the aptasia is under no stress while being eaten so they don’t release eggs into the water.

I have seen a lot of reports of file fish killing/eating shrimp. Anyone have that experience?
